Hi everyone, I'm having some trouble with my NOOK HD+ 32GB. I bought it in Octorber 2013. I keep it original (exactly the same as when I bought it), I did nothing with it (root, install mod, bla bla bla, ... I didn't try because I didn't have time to get to know it.).
And the problem come up today, at 4 p.m, I read my book and everything seem to be normal. I just press the power button to lock the screen and go out. When I got back at 10 p.m, I try to press the power button so many times but the screen's still black, so I hold the power button for 10 seconds or more, it turn on to the "NOOK logo" and black screen again. I keep trying to press the button (to turn it on), sometimes it can go to the loading % screen, sometimes it go to the "register" screen like the first time I register it, seem like my data has been deleted,or de-register, and I dont know why , ... also look like it lost the power so it turn off whenever it want .
When I leave it in my table, dont do anything with it, it keep turn on and off randomly and now it's totally black.
I'm sorry because my english is not good so I made some mistake in this thread, please forgive me, I'm just a student and I'm trying to improve my english skill.
Please give me some advices.
Thank you for all your help.
Obviously what happened is the device reset itself. The Nook HD/HD+ has a safety system where if it fails to boot successfully 8 times in a row it will reset. That means it wipes all your data and reinstalls the original software that came with the device. That is why it is asking for you to register again.
What caused the problem could be anything, a bad app you installed, or just a glitch when writing something to itself. It may never happen again or it may be a hardware issue, including with your external SD if you have one.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. But is there any way that I can fix it at home ? or I should bring it to the store ? I didn't put any external SD in it so I think maybe it's a hardware issue

I suggest you keep using it after you register again. If it happens again take it back to the store for a warranty exchange.

Actually, it's black again now, it turned off when I was registering again, so I didn't finish it

I have/had my nook color rooter (1.4.2) and then the lovely update came by...now, I find I can not power off my nook. I hold the power button for minutes and nothing. I normally would run quick boot, but since root was taken away, I can't even get that to work.
I need to fix this so my wife doesn't yell at me too hard.
Any thoughts/help? Please?
Plug it up to the wall charger....not to the computer.....and try it again.

I just tried that again. It didn't work, I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm not sure what being plugged into the wall would have to do with shutting of the nook, but I'm desperate, I'll try anything. I just need it to reboot, I have the crm card installed in the nook. The button used to work. I'm just hoping that when the battery runs down, I'll be able to restart the nook.
Ok, so got the battery run down, managed to get it charged enough to reboot into recovery. Got root back so that much is done. But the power button still won't work.
And I made the mistake of powering it down (quick boot app)
I was able to get it start booting, (got the skull and crossbones Loading screen) but now it is hung there.
Any thoughts? You guys here are usually really good with coming up with something off the wall that works

And buying one used on eBay before the notices just won't cut it?
Seriously, do you have a bootable recovery SD card?

Before the WIFE notices, of course..... when I totally hosed my nook from booting I was able to restore from last backup after booting into recovery off SD.

Yea I do have a bootable recovery SD Card. I re-ran it and still no love with the power button. Can I just use the old old 1.01 image (if I could find it) and take it back to that point?
I can't even to the 8 interrupted resets, because obviously the power button won't work

I think the button is still good. About a month ago I was able to do the interrupted boot process. When I rooted her NC, was when I noticed the button didn't work. Don't know if something with the flash or if I beat the button to death.

From my POV the Physical Button is dead… If you have tried turning off the NC while it was runing on CWM Bootable uSD using the Power Button and it did not turn off then the Button is dead.
Well, at least I have it rooted, and quick boot installed, I also have a CWM sd card in there, so if it happens to bork again, I can just let the battery die and then when it recharges it will power up....
I guess the button is dead, and I've not seen much in the way of instructions on how to repair the button. And out of warranty its probably cheaper to buy a new one than take it in to get repaired, cuz I can't actually get it back to factory state without having the power button to do the factory resets...

There is an app on play store called NookColor Power Button. It is a widget you can configure to do all of the power functions, sleep, power off, reboot, etc. I suggest you get the donate version. I think it is only 99¢. You can configure it for what you need.

Yeah, I saw that one, forgot about it. Thanks. I need to try the free just to make sure it will do what I need it to.

Got my Note 3 just this past Thursday, finally finished everything on it this morning, and decided to give it a restart. It went in to a boot loop that no matter what I did I couldn't get it out of. I pulled the battery, sd card, and pen, and tried once more. As with each time I got to the home screen, but this time quickly went into task manager and cleared memory to try and kill all apps in case one was the problem.
My question is if there is a way to try and find out if it was an app, or the SD card, or something else. I know errors are stored somewhere, but for all I know I've never had a reason to try and access it.
As always, thanks for any help

If you can go i to play store and install a logcat program and take a log & post it back here so guys can see what yur device is doing. If you cant get that far you may try factory reset and reinstall apps & settings one at a time to catch the bug

Well not rooted, and found out logcat apps won't work without some trickery in Jellybean and up.
But, I got brave even without my home setup nearby so I can fix things (at the BBQ currently) I tried to rule some things out, and figured out it is something with the SD card. I can boot normally with it out, and insert it after boot. I'm hoping it's just the card, but I will hold off till tonight when I'm home to try and fix it.

Hi everyone, I'm sure this question has been answered before but being a complete noob, I honestly don't understand ANY of the technical terms such as "rooting", "flashing", "ROMS", etc etc. So most of the answers I have read make zero sense to me.
My phone started bootlooping when it was in my bag and I have no idea why it started doing so. The battery ended up draining enough to get it out of the bootloop and it was working fine for a day or so, until I put it back in my bag to go out and when I took it out, it was bootlooping again.
What I am trying to ask is what might be the cause of this and is there anyone who can explain how to fix this issue (in simple terms) so that I'd understand?
Cheers.
mine is doing same!

Well I don't know what rooting or mods are, so I doubt it is anything like that. The only things I've really done with my phone are install apps from the play store, torrent music using utorrent and save images/pictures. I thought that maybe it was due to my phone overheating in my bag as it has been rather hot the past few days. Could that be a possible reason?

since it seems you haven't done anything to your phone (ie unlocking, custom ROMs, etc), this could likely be a hardware problem.
how's the power button working? damaged?
you can also do a factory reset in bootloader, power off your phone, then hold VOLDOWN, press POWER, keep holding VOLDOWN until the bootloader appears (the white screen, with a few options), you use VOLUP and VOLDOWN to move the "cursor" and POWER to select the option you want.

cant do that because as lostpigeon said it loops again before we get a chance to select anything! mine has been doing it out of the blue since this morning , cant turn off or anything . . .loops and loops over and over every 13 seconds.

if it's rebooting in bootloader, then it's very likely the power button that's the problem, for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563572
what can you do to fix the power button? tried drying the phone although it hasnt got wet.

off to warranty...
hardware problems are very hard to fix; and i'm not saying it's the power button for sure, it's just highly likely it is, if it's rebooting bootloader.

The problem with my phone is that I found it. Turned it in and no one claimed it for a substantial amount of time so I gained ownership of it. I don't have the warranty or anything that came with the phone except for the phone itself and the charger. If I took it to a phone repair shop would they possibly be able to fix it? Or am I screwed...
Okay so I let my phone run out of battery over night and just plugged it in to charge then and it's seemed to have gotten out of the bootloop and it working normally now, so would this still possibly be a hardware issue? And is there anything I can do to prevent it from bootlooping again?
i phoned up orange and they said to ring htc as ive only had the phone for 5 months . will ring them 2moro. pain in the ass.

Im not sure this is hardware related, there are a few things you can try though to prevent this from happening again. first off, if you ever do encounter another bootloop... pressing and holding in the power button for around 20 seconds or so forces a reboot, the capacitive button on the bottom will start to blink. Second would be to boot into thee bootloader by powering down the phone, holding the volume down button and powering back on while holding voldown. this will bring you to a menu described above eariler, then do a factory reset.

Hi there,
I usually scout out solutions on XDA but I can't find jack to do with these issues and they're driving me bonkers, so any help is massively appreciated.
I’ve had my nook for about 4 months. Rooted and rerooted to enable Google ABC Chinese and unknown sources, but the same issues reoccur:
Touch screen: Goes through periods of neurosis, touch capability suddenly and temperamentally failing (when I constantly have to put it to sleep and reawaken it to get it working again. Occasionally it goes into a proper panic attack and starts selecting anything and everything - I have to wait till it calms down again before I can even pick it up.
SD card: Complete fail. I transfer files from PC, via direct insert or via device & cable, they show as having successfully transferred in windows explorer, show as memory used in PC and Nook memory settings, but each folder (can be viewed) is utterly empty. What’s more, when I plug it back into the PC to find out what the hell went wrong , the folders are again empty! Madness! (I can, however, view and use files downloaded to SD by the nook itself.)
Anybody wise on nook issues tell me if this is part of a bigger problem or is it a turtle’s shell thing - on my back only? Anything suggestions for a way forward?

The touch screen sensitivity is a well known issue. It is caused by fingerprints. Just wipe the screen down periodically.
On the SD, try a different SD. Sometimes cards become read only yet the PC thinks it can still write to it.

Well I do clean that mother everyday with LCD cleaner, to the point of sterility. Sometimes becomes insensitive right after I clean it too. I was wondering if taking the laminate screen cover off, cleaning the actual screen and putting on a new cover might do the trick?
As for the SD, I will give that a try. Hate to have wasted a 40gb SD though...

Had been running 1/18 great for about a week, I hadn't used the tablet today up until right now when I got home but when I tried to wake it from sleep I found turned off. When I turned it back on it showed the normal nook logo but suddenly a bar started loading underneath it and once it finished it started the stock B&N rom.
The only notable thing I can remember doing yesterday before I stopped using it was formatting my 32GB microSD.
I have no issues with re-installing the rom and I might even install nightly but I want to know what might have caused this.
