Hi guys,
I have an HTC One with S-OFF and GPE ROM, I'm trying to get pretty much everything back to stock now. I've identified my CID and downloaded the appropriate RUU exe, the drivers are installed properly and the device is recognized when I run adb devices. However, when I try the RUU it gives me error 170, and on the last step it shows this which is pretty weird "abd dfksfsafjsdfkklsj". Any ideas? Thanks.
Edit: It seems to give that error even when I don't have the phone plugged in at all:
"1. Connect the Smartphone to the USB cable
abd dfksfsafjsdfkklsj"

Error 170 = usb connection error either because a bad cable, drivers installed incorrectly etc. etc... Try a different cable, re-install drivers correctly and use usb 2.0 ports only.
Ok so after digging through the error logs I found something really weird:
The reason it fails is that when the RUU runs adb devices from C:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Sync 3.0\ it outputs the device number + offline. I know this is true since I tested it in a prompt. However, when I run the command from a mini-sdk I have placed somewhere else, it recognizes the device properly ( device number + "device").
Does anyone have an idea what's going on? I've installed HTC Sync but I tried HTC Sync Manager as well earlier, same problem.

Try another computer, another ruu. Make sure the usb cables you are using are not only charging cables. Maybe a defective usb port on the phone.
error 170 is usb connection error, so troubleshoot everything related to this:
usb ports
usb cables
usb drivers
phones drivers
RUU
computer
phone usb port

Well this is the only computer I have access to for the next couple of days, and the only ruu I could find. I am not sure what you mean with the cables though.
Here's the thing, if I replace the adb file from htc sync ( 159kb ) with the one from the mini-sdk ( 800kb) it recognizes the device, and I'm thinking it will probably run the RUU as well. Do I risk messing up something if I do this? This is in regards to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54529900&postcount=3 . Thanks.

Never keep htc sync installed when you flash things on your phone, only install it for the drivers, then uninstall the program (drivers will not be removed). HTC sync might be the problem here.

Well I did remove htc sync but after checking the logs I noticed the problem was still the same. For some reason, every time the device failed to be recognized with the adb devices command, what fixed it for me was putting the it in fastboot, weird.

device offline when booted into a rom error is either drivers, out of date adb / fastboot, but normally it will tell you if its out of date or finally you don't have usb debugging enabled properly, this also applies to the 170 error, easy way to test if its the usb cable or ports etc is to try fastboot getvar all, if you get a result, then its not cables or ports.
adb commands don't work in the bootloader, only fastboot commands.

Ok I spent a few days searching and I just can't seem to find anyone with the same problem!
I got a used T-mobile G1, can't bypass the activation screen (touching the 4 corners in the a certain order doesn't work, believe me i tried!) so I thought of installing the recovery through adb, except adb doesn't see it!
The only thing i see in Device manager or usbdeview is "HTC Android Phone Device" "K:\" under Portable Devices. I cannot update it to the Google drivers, not from here or from the SDK. I tried un-installing it, from device manager and from usbdeview.
I thought it might have been the data cable, so I ordered another one from a different seller off of ebay.
I think i should note that when in fastboot mode, pluging in the usb does not change where it says Serial0 to anything else. I would of thought it change to USB if cable is connected like the older HTC devices.
What am I doing wrong? You're help is appreciated.
Follow this guide, it should help you fix your problem.
Thanks for the reply. But I already tried this guide, every step.
First, this phone doesn't have a custom recovery, so I can't do any fastboot updates.
Second, windows does not accept replacing the HTC Android Phone USB Device with the usb drivers from the guide. It just says "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver...". I'm using 64bit Win7 so obviously I'm using the 64 bit drivers. I tried 3 different downloads from different sites just to be sure the drivers weren't corrupt. The other odd thing is that the HTC ANdroid Phone USB Device is under Disk Drivers in the device manager...
Third, I tried uninstalling using USBDeview, but still Windows automatically installs drivers back as soon as i replug.
Fourth, I cannot bypass the Activation screen, so I can't set USB to debuggin mode.
I know it's hard to suspect that it could be the cable, but I ordered another one from different site just in case.
Most peeps say I should see 3 HTC devices in the device manager, but I don't. Only thing that pops up in there is HTC Android Phone USB Device under Disk drivers and "K:\" under Portable Devices.
Got another cable today and it still doesn't show any other device other then the one in Device Manager... I ran of out of things to try. Anyone can advise? It's possible that my device is defective even though it boots normally.
After playing around for a few days, ended up somehow rooting and flashing Amon's latest recovery and then BAM windows detected new device and install the ADB interface.
Hi guys, hoping someone can help ?
As you see from the title, my HTC One fails to connect to the computer, Here's what ive done to try and remedie the problem.
Removed and clean installed latest HTC Sync and drivers
removed SDK and ADB, updated
rebooted phone
switched on and off
tried several roms
tried 3 different usb cables
tried 5 different usb ports
tried 2 different PC's
My phone sounds like it tries to connect to the pc - with the typical windows noise, then disconnects almost immediaetly, then reconnects then just keeps doing that, my pc comes up with installing drivers, then fails to instal drivers, saying phone not connected, once ive tried this once the phone need to be rebooted before it will attemp to connect to the pc again ---- but fails again
software wise the phone runs perfectly , other than the usb connection problem and charge problem with pc.
The phone charges first time, every time with all my usb cables and htc chargers
im trying to downgrade or reflash hboot 1.55000, just incase this has somehow went corrupt on the usb commands side, but without adb ect it seems almost impossible,
have any of you guys experienced anything like this or could offer solid ideas on how to re-flash hboot from the file located on my phone ???
all help appreciated
running ardh 13.4/22.0, hboot 1.55, cid = supercid, unlocked, s-off
I would simply go back to stock and return via shop in uk - to see if i could get a replacement, but getting there seems impossible - if i can simply get the pc usb problem sorted - all will be fine

Are the chargers working fine? or are they giving you intermittent charge/no-charge cycles as well? in which case it could be your USB socket is damaged or dirty, try cleaning it with a compressed air tank (or whatever it's called )
Are you also facing the problem in bootloader mode (ie fastboot)?
hmm, will give the usb socket on my phone a clean. Im charging completley fine with chargers and usb cables from mains, when i install htc sync(latest) it installs no problems, then i plug phone into pc, the usb connected appears on phone and then disappears almost imediaetly, the pc sees ive plugged something in and straight away tries to instal drivers - but then comes up with drivers were no installed correctly, also then the phone fails to charge from pc, if i reboot phone - and plug in it will run through the same install cycle again , as described above., basically all drivers fail to install when i plug phone in, its like the phone connects then instantly disconnects.
I ll clean port and post back, could make a difference if a pin has a high resistance contact , thx for info will give it a go
Hey guys, flashed Sinless 5.1.1 last night and ever since installing this particular ROM I'm unable to access my phone's folders via MTP or anything. I've tried re-installing drivers on my PC, rebooting phone and PC several times, trying to access my phone in ADB and fastboot... I can't even push or sideload a new ROM so I really don't know what to do!
Anyone got any idea what to try next and/or how to solve this?
Did you enable Developers options USB debugging?
If not go to about phone and click on Build number a
bunch of times. If that doesn't work install latest HTC
drivers.

I'm actually running that exact ROM and my phone is seen on both my Mac and Windows 7.
Did you try a different USB port? Does a message pop up on your phone asking to trust your
computer? My computer wouldn't see my phone until I accepted that pop up.
If you've tried all that then give a little more info on your PC so we can diagnose it.

Kinda stumped then! Only thing I can think is that you don't have the very latest drivers.
Can you ADB and see the phone? Check the following thread on how to do this.
(Sorry if you already know how)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2365506
If I do "adb devices", nothing shows up. Simple commands like "adb reboot" respond with "error: device not found".
I've just flashed ARHD 31.6 (Android 4.3) and re-installed drivers and my phone still isn't recognisable. I'm lost!
Okay, big trouble now!! I just read elsewhere that it could be an internal storage corruption problem, so without thinking I formatted internal storage along with data and system in recovery and attempted to ADB sideload a new ROM and was going to start over. Stupid idea! ADB still isn't working so now I can't even sideload or push a ROM. All I have to work with now is fastboot and recovery, and my PC isn't recognizing either of them. Any ideas?
YOU AREN'T GOING TO BELIEVE THIS!!!
Girlfriend stayed over the weekend and happened to swap our USB cables over. She left and took my OTG cable and left me with her identical looking USB charge only cable.
Just tried my mother's Nokia cable and voila! Installing device drivers.
Now to sideload a ROM and start from scratch -.-
I know this thread is old but if someone stumbles upon it this is what I did.
New USB worked.
***While using the USB cord that wouldn't connect like it usually does, I re-installed HTC Sync Manager and it immediately recognized it.

I have been trying to connect my phone to my PC and all it does is charge. I can't view any files on the phone or add, move or delete anything. It won't respond to fastboot commands. I've tried it in recovery and bootloader and it won't pick up anything. I noticed this when I tried to update to the new Kit Kat firmware. I am running Windows 7, Maximus 30 ROM, elemental x kernel. And I've tried every combination of sync manager, sync and the HTC drivers and nothing responds.

My first step will be to get a good cable, i had half a dozen of different cables and some work, some don't... finally worked out with old cable from my Samsung
Try using another PC/Laptop ?
I've tried 2 different PCs and my laptop. All were the same result. I have only tried the black htc cord that came with the phone. I will try my other cord when I get home.
I've tried 3 different cords and all the same result
Bump
I've tried 2 more computers and another cord and still no luck
Try useing Total Commander for android and you wont need any cable for data transfers.

When I plug it into the PC, I get no reaction whatsoever. When I open device manger, there is no changes. No yellow triangles. No unrecognized devices. I'm starting to wonder if it has something to do with the previous firmware/hboot I flashed.

By any chance, have you tried using a different cable? Sometimes we forget about the simplest/most obvious solutions
I've tried 3 or 4 different cables. I did notice today when tinkering with it, no matter what I do or try, I can not get the MTP box or notification to pop up. I am really starting to believe this is an issue with my phone.
I went and bought 2 more different cables and still the same result. I have noticed that the USB connected icon only shows up if I restart the phone with a USB cable in and it stays on even if unplugged. The HTC sync manager notification comes on sometimes when plugged in. And I can never get the MTP icon or notification.
Hi i have HTC One M7 801n and cant connect to PC, i try whith other cables, other computers, different usb ports and drivers, nothing works, the micro usb conector seems to be ok, no message apears in the phone and only charge, fastboot says "fastboot ac" when conect to pc. i have the bootloader unlocked but i whant at least root the phone, any ideas pls ?

If you have not done it already, try wiggling the mini-usb cable to see if it improves anything. Is the phone charging? It might be a hardware problem, I have read in some other post that it is the motherboard. Sorry, I can not think of anything else.

Try to clean the phone's contacts with a little rubbing alcohol and/or compressed air. There maybe lint or dirt on the contacts preventing a good connection.

Asking because I got an m7 here where USB works just fine and reliably in both fastboot and recovery. But when the system (any ROM, tried more than 10 now), there's only charging. No MTP, no nothing.
