Can you tweak the display? - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any possible way to tweak the display of the sp so it has better colors? I mean it's good, but I think with some tweaks it can get better? What do you think?

Display tweaks can be adjusted without flashing any zip or anything foolish. Just go to Settings then Display then choose White Balance and adjust the screen Saturation and Hue accordingly to achieve your desired screen color optimization.
Hit thanks if I helped

Yea, but i don't know a good way to adjust it. Is there a thread for adjusting it, because i can't do it

No there is no such thing.

Bye Bye washed out colors !

For all those who are complaining still saying they made a wrong choice over XZ buying a Butterfly or a HTC one .. try this and let us see if you still complain
and for others who are happy with the XZ this will make you even more happy..
First on the settings display white balance set your white balance settings as 9 /220 that is the hue / saturation settings
next set your display brightness to about 95% or even 100..
install this app from the play store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kovit.p.filteryourscreen&feature=search_result
this app will not require any root
once you open this app set the filter to Alpha as 65 and rest all 0 and apply to your screen and see the difference , you may feel a bit less bright than before but now after applying the filter see your phone from all angles and see if you still see washed out colors , I have tried it and works absolutely fine love my XZ even more
Hit thanks If it helped you...

to be honest if you are looking at your home screen for example the best way to get more saturation is to open your wallpaper in album app take a screen shot and then apply it as wall paper , other wise album n movies anyways increase the saturation.. so thats a workaround
also there is settings on the flter app where you can tinker with RGB so you have on screen realtime display with filter so you can set it as per your needs ,.
The best way to increase the saturation using the fiter is use the below formula to set it ... as per your liking
changing the saturation you would increase all of the values by the same amount for example 150,250,150.
so if you set R to 150 set G to 250 and B to 150 so R and B same value and 75% more to the G
this way the saturation will increase without increasing the brightness..
Hope this helps...
to be honest, i don't seem to see any serious difference besides that the screen is dimmer. sorry

+1. I think the same effect could be achieved just by lowering the backlight brightness to minimum.
did u try fidelling the rgb ? i did that
Xperia Z has the best screen I've seen... I've tried the HTC1 and S-Note II.
I like my white, white not weirdish yellow like the note or bluishlike the HTC.
Becides white, this screen produces all the colours very well, taking a screenshot viewing it on my tv they look identical sending it to my arc the colours were more brighter and blurry. My s2 is broken. So don't know there.
Tl:dr
I don't understand what anyone means with the colours being washed out.
I don't even have angle problems
It only dimmed down the screen. Not really working.
more hope anyone can make the bravia engine 2 working everywhere. This will make the screen one step ahead.
that aint going to happen..although i'd like to see bravia engine on unlocked bootloader
Bravia Engine sucks, it destroyes so much details in pictures...
Sorry but it doesn't work, and it couldn't possibly work. The filter doesn't affect how anything is rendered, it only applies a filter on the top of the image that can make it darker and lower the saturation - it can't make it higher though as this would require modifying the rendering driver.
That app is exactly doing what the stock white balance filter is doing, no....?

not really , the app does not have the access to the actual screen drivers to it tries to filter or tweak the existing display area by applying the filtetr,
I realised it basically dims the screen by putting a layer of transperancy and then tweaks that not great for outdoors but indoors you will get a good visiblity with the tweak,
The permanent bravia engine is something I am sure devs need to find out.. not very hard nor easy ,,, just need to find the right code that when we open album app the BE2 gets triggered if that trigger can be added to the init.d script I think we will have permanent BE2 on all areas..
Bravia engine only works during gallery and video, doesnt work with regular use...or so i believe

yes , so when u open gallery or video the BE2 script or app may start so if we find that out and include it in the startup script that should give overall BE2 NO?

I'm confused, u want to stop BE2 or enable it all the time? U can stop BE2 all together by trying to unlock vootloader

I want to enable it all the time , so therefore better home screen and other apps ... for example when you open lets a wallpaper app like HD wallpapers , the pics appear allready with the BE2 applied..

From what I seen the BE2 produce more whites then regular so not sure if that will work to your advantage

Is there a way to tweak the display colors?

I'm coming from SUPER AMOLED display and although I expected Z1 colors to be less prominent I didn't expect them to be so soft.
I'm wondering is there is a way (an app perhaps) to tweak the colors?

Unfortunately, I don't see this being a possibility until a kernel comes out with a gamma injection module. We (the Nexus 4 users), had the same issue. I don't know of an app that would let you tweak the gamma like that. Sorry
Connor Baker
Sony Z had the colour tweaking tool.. WTF Sony, why no tweaking tool with the Z1?????????????????????????????????? FAIL

[Tip] better screen color.

Okay so I been feeling unhappy with way my screen looks. The pink tint has been annoying me. I turned off the live display because it was crap IMO. I noticed in the menu of livedisplay an option called color calibration. Duh. I'm sure a lot of you know this but. I'm also sure a lot of you don't. Pink is red. Drop red to 97 and the picture looks so much more realistic and yes. Less pink.

What and where is live display?
Is it a CM thing? That's the closest a search would lead. I ask, because I'm on stock ROM.

Thanks. :good:
Thanks I applied your logic to Color Control since I am on stock rom. It was really hard to lower 1 notch from 255 to 254, the developer should make that better. Anyways I think it looks much better. I increased contrast and saturation slightly as well.

1080p toggle in custom ROMs

I just read the XDA article for the Z5 Premium and how it switches automatically between 1080p and 4k resolution when it sees fit. I think this is an excellent idea for developers to implement into their ROMs. Why don't we have such a feature? Or even a simple toggle that we can select that would change the build.prop or something to switch between QHD and 1080p? Would it be too hard to included or something?
Just wondering, its a really neat feature.
Nick
Because there's little to no benefit for dropping down to 1080 on this device

Probably no one has thought of it. By the way, turning pixels off to produce lower resolution on an AMOLED screen will make the screen much less bright. Perhaps not ideal on our already not bright screen.
Not sure what the build.prop has to do with this though?

If it's done right, saving power for each pixel turned off and GPU working less to render images. I reckon it would make a bit of difference.

It's been thought of, it's been done, and it's been shown to provide little to no benefit. If simply changing this isn't what you're referring to then it's not possible without reverse engineering display drivers.

I saw that thread a while back, but i'm talking about auto switching when the gpu demands for it and switching it back when you don't need it. I assume Sony is doing this because they saw an increase in battery life, so it may be worth it for us as well. Just another cool feature for ROM devs to add to their ROM. Or if they figure out a script or algorithm to make it automatic, then at least have a toggle or something in the quick settings. Or if we don't see any difference going to 1080p, then how about 720p? That has to do something, as it only would run half of the screen's pixels. Sony's screen is IPS, i believe, so we should benefit more than them because we also don't have to power a backlight as well as the pixels.

I thought changing the native resolution had something to do with changing a setting in the build.prop. Maybe I misunderstood, as I didn't look too much into it at the time. Definitely didn't watch the youtube vid posted on that thread.

Changing the native resolution to 720p wouldn't result in pixels being turned off. The phone would just render images in blocks of 4 pixels. It would look like ass, but hey, battery life or something.

I'm not sure about how that works, but it isn't turning off the pixels. As I said...

If the GPU thinks it is rendering to a HD display and the other pixels are turned off, then yes, it would make a bit of difference - but you would need to do both for any difference to be even slightly noticeable I bet.

Loss of contrast

Anybody else who is kind of experiencing loss of contrast in the Z3+? Mine is Z3+ Dual.

The screen. Mine is sometimes losing contrast. Well, I can say it's contrast not brightness as the brightness level isn't changing.?
Yes there is a lot of white on display you'll notice especially if you have black icons on home screen

From what I have experienced, it only happens when in very bright areas, for example direct sunlight or offices. The phone boosts the image brightness in the darker areas for better visibility in bright situations. This is a kernel thingy, and I thought it could be a part of the X-Reality engine too, but "disabling" it in the settings doesn't disable the contrast change. Is this your experience, too?
As I know, it is something related to Qualcomm technology, known as Assertive Display. Maybe this can help you understand. https://www.qualcomm.com/news/snapd...ay-power-efficient-technology-thats-easy-eyes

I have experienced exactly what you described too!
It's the assertive display playing up. I disabled it at one point but reverted back as it works so well apart from these instances.
