Hi guys i have a little question,
Right now i have 4.4.2 firmware, unlocked and rooted and with twrp
I wanna test the pac rom or cyanogen a little but my question is, if i have my backup of 4.4.2, after i install a cyan or pac rom based on 4.4.4, can i return safely to my backup of 4.4.2?
Ty
it depends on what is included in the 4.4.4 rom your are flashing.
If you use RSDlite to flash a stock 4.4.4 rom it includes all parts like... system.img, motoboot.img, gpt.bin, modems, etc. The official OTA's will patch/upgrade those parts too. Once you flash those updated parts, you can't downgrade without a very real chance of bricking.
If the custom ROM you are trying to flash only updates the SYSTEM partition, and doesn't touch anything else, then usually you can safely revert to your previous backup.

To take an OTA, you'll need a 100% stock system image and be on stock recovery.
To be sure the OTA updates your system, your best option would be to fastboot flash the stock system.img and recovery.img from the stock 5.0.1 factory images (assuming you are on 5.0.1 now).
You could, just as easy, stop waiting and download/flash the 5.1 factory images manually, not flashing the userdata.img to keep your data intact (must be bootloader unlocked of course), then re-root.

No, Flashing will overwrite the rooted system you have now. You will have to root after flashing 5.1.
I will ask question in this thread as I don't want start new one.
I'm in uk. I have n6, I didn't do anything on it, no root, no unlocked bootloader.
Can I take OTA 5.1 , without worrying that it will stay in boot loop or I'm pretty safe to do so?
Also how long I have to wait for OTA 5.1 , I can see plenty of you on this forum had it already, but I even if I check for system updates it keep telling me system is up to date.
It can take a few weeks. And everything should be fine if you wait and accept it normally

I hope you don't mind me asking a question here also? I hate to start another thread.
I'm on custom rom and kernel both still at 5.0.x. I've updated my bootloader and radio to 5.1. If I just wipe, flash the 5.1 rom, gapps and the 5.1 kernel, I don't have to flash the factory image's, they are baked into the rom and kernel already? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for responding and sorry I was not clear. I'm currently on a custom Rom and kernel that are 5.0 based. I flashed the 5.1 radio and bootloader when they came out. I want to upgrade to the 5.1 versions of the custom Rom and kernel. Do I have to flash stock 5.1 then flash the custom stuff or can I just flash the 5.1 custom Rom and kernel and be at 5.1.

You just flashing your custom 5.1 ROM. It wouldn't make much sense to flash one ROM (i.e., a stock 5.1 ROM) and kernel to then immediately overwrite it with another ROM (i.e., your custom 5.1 ROM) and kernel, now would it?
I'm slightly confused on how I would downgrade to the official GB retail 4.4.4 ROM, is it as simple as flashing it on the recovery? or will I have to do it via ADB fastboot? If so, how would I go about doing that?
My bootloader is 30.B7, which I have read to be the correct one for 4.4.4, I'm just confused on the method to use.
I want to go back to 4.4.4 so I can prepare for the official update which, with the recent soak tests, seems pretty imminent.
Thanks in advance!

Good job checking your bootloader, I think your not as confused as your think
CM12 doesn't upgrade your phone like an official update does, it only messes with the system and as such going back to 4.4.4 does not require downgrading GPT.bin or MOTOBOOT.img
If you have a backup of your stock system, or a 4.4.4 rom you can just flash it from recovery. If you didn't make a backup, you will have to find one that works with your phone or you can just reflash the sbf with fastboot ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-moto-x-return-to-100-stock-using-t2446515 )

easiest way to update is with fastboot and google images here is link to images https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
if you want to keep data or it wont flash follow this http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/11/12/running-into-the-dreaded-missing-system-img-error-flashing-android-5-0-factory-images-heres-how-to-get-around-it/ but you need to erase data because your on a custom rom and it probably wont be compatible with stock rom once you have updated everything reflash a custom recovery or dont flash the stock one at all then flash a 5.1 rom and good to go
What about all the Bootloader and radio zips that can be flashed through TWRP? I've read about people flashing the updates while still being on their 5.0.2 ROMs and everything still works fine, I don't have access to a computer I would like to just update straight from my phone without a Computer if possible? Think I could flash the Bootloader and radio updates through TWRP then reboot n after everything is all good go back and flash the new 5.1 ROM and gapps?

i don't know if anyone has twrp flashables for the updating bootloader and radios your searching is as good as mine here i am not experienced with that i always used factory images or ota updates to update those things.
but if you happen to have a backup of your stock rom in twrp you maybe able to just go back to stock then flash back your stock recovery then update with an ota but for an ota to work it has to be all stock no root no nothing just stock.

Hi, I've been canvassing a few threads trying to work out exactly what's needed to take my xt1058 to 5.1. I'm currently on Cyanhacker 5.0.2 nightly rom built on Mar-3, with TWRP recovery. To get here I had to do the CM11 -> CM12 based rom boot trick if it's important.
If I want to go to the official 5.1 ROM, is this the best path, or will I brick the device somehow? http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/how-to-install-5-1-lollipop-moto-x-t3089594
I'm fairly certain trying to go from 5.0.2 back to 4.4.4 will end badly, so this seems safer?
I've also spotted this, but not sure if this is better than the above option? http://translate.google.com.au/tran...ipop-51-stock-moto-x-2013-xt1058/&prev=search
Could someone please let me know which is the best path?
If you are talking about flashing to a custom or 3rd party rom based on 5.1, follow the ROM makers recommendation.
That being said... If you want a STOCK 5.1 rom.... then...
Because you are on a custom or 3rd party rom now, you need to check your bootloader version.. Boot to the Fastboot AP screen (aka bootloader screen) and the 2nd line will have the version.
If you have either 30.BC or 30.BD, your best bet is to sit tight and wait for a Stock Moto SBF of 5.1 to leak for your device/carrier, then flash that.
If you have 30.B7 or lower, find the appropriate Stock SBF for your carrier/model device, and flash it using either mFastboot or RSDLite.
Thanks for clarifying! I was looking to go from custom rom back to stock 5.1 (missing all the Moto features). My bootloader is 30.B4, so it should be okay to flash a carrier FXZ for XT1058 as per the Brazil moto forum link I posted?
I assume this will blast my custom recovery as well, so I'd have to re-apply TWRP and root?
EDIT: Actually this version seems to have TWRP? http://translate.googleusercontent....-root/&usg=ALkJrhgUAWS_u0rYHHVrsBRy4w5DG4VdvA
Here's the skinny...I'm on bootloader version 30.b4 I have tried out CM12.1 after installing CM11 and rebooting. CM12.1 is working great except for a few inconsistencies. I want to upgrade as far as I can and have a working device. I have not flashed any boot.img files or modem files or done any alterations to the partition tables except what the official CM12.1 (following their method of installing CM11, rebooting, then flashing 12.1.
Here are my thoughts.
Flash the stock 4.4.2 sbf and OTA as far as I can and be where I end up.
Flash the official .sbf for LP5.1.1 and update bootloader, then try to get CM 12.1 installed again and hope it works better.
Go back to stock rooted 4.4.2 with xPosed and love it,
?..... What should I do and why?
I don't want to end up stuck somewhere that sucks and I need your input.
Thanks.
