I had an AT&T S4, and I know someone had ported the Google Play Edition ROM to work on that phone which also requires Safestrap. How possible would it be for someone with more skills than myself to follow the same procedure to possibly get a Cyanogenmod ROM working with safestrap on our S5?
With safestrap you can only use roms that are based on the stock kernel. Unless the bootloader gets unlocked we will be sick with touchwiz roms.

Until someone figures out how to unlock the bootloader, the best I have been able to do is use the Dynamic Kat ROM and the GPE theme. Plenty good enough for me.

Same for me, although at some point l, I'd like to try an AOSP. But dynamic kst will definitely suffice for now.

Alright, so I've enjoyed modding my Android devices since I got my first Android running on 2.2, especially because of the options to tweak CPU usage, and just (from what I have noticed) better general usage with all of my devices. I purchased this phone because of it's similar power usage to the S4 and it being water & dust resistant. However, most of the development that I have seen for this forum has been for the i9525, which is the international version. I have the i537, and have been going crazy with battery drainage issues, and I think only a custom kernel/new ROM can fix this. Could somebody point me in the right direction of where to go? I've heard talk that after MF2, installing Safestrap right now is essentially not possible, due to bootloader issues.
I'm running the Stock ROM v 4.2.2

SafeStrap works for every version of firmware for the i537, you just need to use the proper version. If you're on ML2 I think you need 3.71, but please check to make sure because I could be wrong. As for a custom kernel or tweaking the CPU, it's not going to be possible on the i537 because the bootloader is locked and you are forced to use the stock kernel. You can try a custom ROM through SafeStrap, but I don't think it's going to help much. You might be better off upgrading the NE3 or NH3 and trying a custom ROM through SafeStrap there.

So essentially until we get the bootloader unlocked and can install a custom recovery (Like CWM or TWRP, instead of using SafeStrap), no "real" custom ROMs? More just ROMs based off of the stock kernel/modem/etc.?

Correct, and most of the people who were leading the development and research of unlocking the bootloader have decided to move on to other things within the last week. At this point it looks like the bootloader will never be unlocked. There's always a slim chance but it's not looking good.
I am coming from a Nexus 5, where we didn't have to worry about downgrading or upgrading, or which ROM to flash for which variant. Everything was so clean and ready to flash for me. I loved it.
Due to damage, I lost my Nexus 5 and ended up with a Moto X, for Sprint on 4.4.4. I have already unlocked the bootloader and rooted it on stock. But the bloatware on this thing is ungodly. So without me having to go and individually freeze everything, I wanted a lightweight, fast, and stable ROM to flash.
The problem is I see none. I see a lot of unofficial, and nightly ROMs, but nothing really fitting my criteria. I don't want something with bugs either. I couldn't find a good (Sprint) stock ROM. I saw one thread, but I didn't understand why there were 3 download links, ROM, Firmware, and SOAK. I am just unsure how to go about finding the ROM of my dreams (lol). I'd prefer something like stock de/odexed (either) with all bloat removed and maybe some minor/major speed/tweak enhancements. I don't really care though. Just bloat removed, quick, and stable.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Heck, I'd event be thankful for a complete guide on what I can uninstall/change myself! The Moto X is a great phone, just feels incredibly slow.
Sounds like Eclipse is what your looking for.
Or Krypton. I just use stock with Xposed and GravityBox.
Krypton is good also. Try them both and make your own decision
The problem I have is I would REALLY love a stock ROM with all bloatware removed except like active notifications/screen thing. But it doesn't really exist for this phone. That's why its hard for me to use stock as of now.

Why not just debloat with titanium backup yourself. Stock, your way.

Click this link and make sure you only use the files labelled for the SGH-I537 US (AT&T) Active
Stay away from the international threads, a lot of their custom development won't work on your phone. The only "custom recovery" that won't brick your phone is SafeStrap and there isn't a huge selection of roms; the best choices right now are GoldenEye, Goldfinger, or Hyperdrive (if you like the touchwiz experience) and Pure Nexus if you prefer the AOSP look and feel
THANK YOU

Hyperdrive if you like touchwiz - Samsung's version of Android, how stock Samsung phones look but with more theming and customization, or
Pure Nexus if you like AOSP, so-called "vanilla" android, closest to how google makes android actually look (closest to the cyanogenmod look and feel). This rom (in both theming and overall experience) is based off of the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4.
Other than that there aren't many options. I would argue at the very least those are the two with the most support or ongoing development, although someone please correct me if I'm forgetting any others. Which of the two roms you choose I think really comes down to a fundamental personal preference: do you prefer Touchwiz or AOSP? Although again, someone chime in if you disagree with my assessment.
Im looking forward to install the Nexus room. I actually like more AOSP better than TouchWiz . Do i have to install the Google applications seperate or is already included on the room and SuperSU app?
Sorry to ask you many questions but your the only one helping me out and i appreciated your help!!

Good questions. You do not have to install the Google applications, they're included in the rom. You WILL however have to install SuperSU while installing the rom. Simply download UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip and flash it immediately after flashing the rom zip file (i.e. before you first boot up).
If you prefer AOSP over TouchWiz, definitely go with the Nexus rom. Just some notes, the first boot up will take a fairly long time, this is normal and just be patient. Actually it takes a while (I'd say up to a day or two) for the rom to really "settle in." And one noticeable bug that's easy to deal with: turn off Wi-Fi right before you either power off or reboot. If you don't do that, Wi-Fi will not work properly. Should you forget to do that, Wi-Fi can still be fixed with a hot reboot. So not a crippling bug, just something to keep track of. Other than that I can't think of anything, just good luck and make sure to always make backups before doing anything. It's always my pleasure to help whenever I can
bricked???
Can someone please help! My phone is showing the message: Update failed try again using kies ( or something very close to that), it won't enter recovery mode, all I can get to is Odin mode, yet when I try to flash the firmware it failed every time, out fails when it gets to boot in the dialog box. I tried to flash another boot animation, so I'm assuming that's where I went wrong, can someone please tell me what I can do to fix this? I'd be eternally grateful, thank you!
I seem to have a bit of an issue, recently i installed Pure Nexus on my Galaxy S4 Active.
The other day I rebooted my phone and it seemed to have gotten stuck in a bootloop. To fix this I wiped cache and dalvik but not factory reset. The phone booted up however all of my internal files were gone, but my apps remained. I also lost access to the hardware keys and camera. I have two theories
1.The phone somehow deleted all of my files for no reason
2. Safestrap booted my phone into a rom slot and refuses to boot to stock
I checked safestrap and it said that it was on stock, however I had installed pure nexus on one of the rom slots but never deleted it
The reason i believe my second theory to be true is because I am now missing a lot of total system memory which i should normally have.
any and all help is appreciated in finding out how to recover my files
Usually with a new ROM, it will format /Data and your internal SD. Try to format /Data with your recovery. *MAKE A BACKUP* and as far as the camera and keys go, re flash the ROM, and Google for the camera master patch for your phone model. Regarding the i537, we are stuck on a locked bootloader. Meaning, no custom kernels or recoveries. No custom kernels means only touchwiz based roms. I don't know how in the actual h*ll you got an aosp ROM on there. But a majority of your problems are due to the kernel.

Back on KitKat, there was a ROM called pure nexus (original s4 thread link and our i537 version link) that worked for our phone. It was based off the Google Play Edition S4 ROM, so even though it was technically touchwiz, it looked, felt, and acted like an AOSP ROM (i.e. it was way more than just an AOSP theme or skin). Unfortunately the dev moved on to the Nexus scene by the time we finally got 5.0.1 for the i537. But long story short, this ROM can, should, and does work for the i537, at least on KitKat.
I tried for a few months to port the 5.0.1 edition to our i537 with no luck, it seems I don't know enough about ROM development

That explains a lot. I actually heard of someone porting the "pure" s4 to our phone, and then it seemed to fall off the face of the earth. That actually explains a lot.

I have a non dev Moto X from Verizon (XT1060, first gen). It is currently running 4.4.4. What is the most I can do with it? Reading several threads, I am unable to find a conclusive answer regarding this. Looks like sunshine doesn't work nor do most one click tools. My goal is to flash a debloated ROM at the very least if possible.
You won't be able to flash any custom rom without an unlocked bootloader and that's that really. At most you could root(when possible) and manually uninstall bloatwares from the stock rom. I'm glad I had troubles upgrading my phone initially and was able to read about sunshine app on time.

to the moon and back at least, of course try krypton, or maybe even the modded 5.1 for the 1060, I prefer krypton but the modded 5.1 came a long way quickly I just wasn't feeling the change from simplicity (less options but works perfect for me) of Moto Assist, to the more complex options in LP :/ Check out the respect threads for each rom!
Safestrap only works for 4.4.2 no?
