Verizon phone's are all ready unlocked

Do not confuse locked boot loaders with carrier locked devices. Congress says carrier locked phones must be unlockable at the end of a service contract, so they can be transferred for use on another compatible network. This has nothing to do with locked boot loaders. VZW G2 is not carrier locked, but the boot loader is and will remain forever locked.

LG G2 VS980 not detecting/connecting to mobile network..
I am in India at the moment...i have 3 Verizon G2 phones...SIM cards work fine on 2 of them...On the third one...it does not detect the mobile network...sim is detected ,coz it gives no alert...and when i search for networks...the networks are shown...it just doesnt connect to the network...the sim cards work fine in other phones...in the other G2 phones and in a HTC DROID DNA...so its not the sim at fault....
Have tried multiple SIM cards from Vodafone/Loop Mobile/Airtel...none of them work on this particular phone..
What can be the problem ?
Please help me out...otherwise will have to send the phone all the way back to USA..

This generally means either: 1) The ESN/IMEI is blacklisted or 2) The APN information is incorrect.
You can call your carrier to determine if it is blacklisted, or use this website although I don't know if it is international or just in the US

i'm using my VS980 with T-Mobile and works perfectly and getting in some areas up to 40MB Download and 11MB Upload with 4G LTE , the lowes i have seen is 20MB Download and 9 Upload.

I am using vs980 in newzealand. Now it is on global mode and i can call, text,... as normal but i can't use data service. The signal always shows "R" (does that mean Roaming? ) and "H" (HSPA?) and i have already set the correct APN. Can someone help me how to connect data service? THANKS

Can someone in an LTE area try something for me?

NVM; it turns out my carrier (Net10) is staffed by idiots. (They claim every SIM card can get LTE but it turns out that only those of a newer set actually can).
I work for at&t and our 3g sim cards still pick up lte. I have an old 3g sim in right now testing

Thing is, I'm on an iPad plan on that SIM (used a relative's iPad IMEI to do the initial website setup) and I'd read on the AT&T forums that unless the corresponding IMEI is LTE-enabled the SIM won't be either, and since the iPad I'd used is a GSM-only model, that's why I didn't get LTE when I'd tried my actual-AT&T SIM.
... can you verify if that's true (also, would you be able to provision it to LTE if I were to give you the IMSI)?

That's true. Whenever you swap out equipment in the system your data type will change whether it's 3g,hspa+,lte,etc.
I wouldn't have access to net10 accounts. You'll need to go through their customer service.

Oh hells no- they're the dweebs that told me I was provisioned for LTE (when I really wasn't). Nah, thankfully I'm all set and will likely never have to deal with them again.
Me and my friend both have Firsts, I have an older Straight Talk SIM while he got the new LTE enabled one. And sure enough, he gets LTE while I don't. Though testing with YouTube HQ I get faster downloads than him.

Heh- what's funny is I'll probably use "*#*#4636#*#*" (or an app) to lock out LTE after all, to preserve the excellent battery life the First gets- but I just hated having a feature available that I wasn't able to take advantage of!
I've gotten ~1.5MByte/sec via HSPA+ data, which is just fine, realistically (we only get 2.5GB/mo on Net10 anyway).

Unlocking LG G2 for verizon?

I was wondering if it was possible to unlock a Tmobile g2 for use on verizon? Also could i do the same for a ATT G2 for use on verizon?

Nope. Verizon uses different technology.... LTE is the ONLY reason Verizon phones use a sim card. You could do the Oppisite though, you can use an Verizon G2 on T-Mobile or AT&T but not the other way around.
It's already factory unlocked.

No the Tmobile version does not have CDMA radio which is what Verizon and Sprint use for 3g data and calls.
The LG G2 Verizon model (vs980) comes fully gsm unlocked on 3g, 1x support.(CMDA unlocked LTE,3G,1x. I believe:good I have seen multiple people have their lg g2 connected to the T-Mobile network no problem.
Someone correct me if my information is incorrect.
Thank you.
No. It's impossible. Not just bc the radio technology is different, (gsm/cdma) Even if the bands were completely compatible, verizon would not allow it on their network. Only verizon certified phones will Work. Meaning they have to be verizon branded

You CAN use GSM networks on the verizon G2, the phone radio fully supports HSPA+. You will need to change it in the hidden cellular settings pane, I just used an app called "Advanced Signal Status" and scrolled down until there was a button called "Additional Info" from there I went to "Phone Information" and you can set the preferred network type. Set it to GSM/UMTS. if you are running on stock, it's Settings > Tethering & network > Mobile networks > System and then select it. You will also need to add the APNs.
Verizon cannot lock down their phones to one network according to the FCC Network Access Regulations.
"(e) Handset locking prohibited. No licensee may disable features on handsets it provides to customers, to the extent such features are compliant with the licensee's standards pursuant to paragraph (b) of this section, nor configure handsets it provides to prohibit use of such handsets on other providers' networks."
Verizon can block certain handsets from being used on their network, but cannot block their branded phones from going on a different network if the phone's hardware supports it.
If it were impossible, how are many people connecting to and using GSM networks on the Verizon G2 (VS980)?!
Even though Verizon is a evil carrier, they cannot prevent this.
Do research before posting.
Thank you,
Stephen

This is why I recommend buying the Verizon model. Not only do you get additional radios to use on Verizon or any GSM network, it is unlocked out of the box and has Qi Wireless Charging unlike any of the other variants. Moving from ROM to ROM is no biggie either. I've seen people flashing Tmobile Roms on the Verizon G2.

Hi guys.. Hoping much to get your expert opinion.. I live outside USA and got a Verizon G2 as a gift. When I turned on the phone it asked to select the language which then further proceeds to set up but since it cannot connect to Verizon server , it just keeps searching and then routes to emergency calls only.mode.. Tried to insert the local Sim but its not recognizing it.
I have seen you guys talking about having it factory unlocked out of the box but this doesn't .. Please help the brother out

I think you have to go into your network settings and change your API's to match your network you intend to use. That carrier should supply those if you call them.

He does not need an AT&T modem flashed on his device. That would most likely result in a brick.
OP: Try dialing *#2263# and make sure automatic is selected. Also go into setting, mobile networks and set it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA

Ok you need to give ATT the IMEI number from one of their LTE android devices. Just go to the store to get one from one of the demo devices. Then your account will be provisioned for LTE.

The guy above is correct, you need at&t to register your imei into their network to access their LTE.... They should do it for you no problem, just give them a call....however I wouldn't be surprised if they don't! Another way is to find someone with an extra LTE phone and just activate that imei and your LTE should pop up

If he registers his T-Mobile S5 on AT&T he will still have problems. AT&T won't recognize the T-Mobile IMEI number, and therefore it will list as a GSM device.
He needs to find an IMEI number of one of AT&T's LTE android devices. Once he has called AT&T CS and have had them provision his account for LTE, then he can just pop in his AT&T sim card to his T-Mobile S5. He'll get LTE then.

Thanks for everyone's help. I am good to go.
I took a SIM from another LTE device. I think it does need to be registered as a IMEI from an ATT device and that was the problem.

Now that you are getting AT&T LTE on the T-Mobile variant, can you please comment on LTE signal strength? This is a deal breaker for me. When I had the TMO Note 3 on AT&T, LTE reception sucked. If you can compare it with an AT&T branded phone, that would be great.
Another person using the G900T. Congrats
My experience is that coverage is just as good if not better. Same radio, same antenna, I wouldn't expect it to be any different?
The TMO GS5 has all the needed ATT LTE Bands no need for a radio flash, I'm using one on ATT now, have gotten LTE from day 1, as stated only requirement is the sim has to be originally activated on a LTE ATT device and that the APN is set properly.
What kind of speed is everyone getting with the tmo s5 on att network? I have an att s5 next to a tmo s5 and att s5 is getting 50mbps vs tmo at 20mbps. I am wondering if I needed to configure something on the tmo devices?

I would also like to do this, but I just want to clarify something. I just bought an AT&T S5. Brand new, unopened, still in the box. I want to swap it for a T-Mobile S5, as the bootloader is unlocked. If I keep the AT&T SIM card before I sell it, and put it into the new Tmo S5, will I have any foreseeable issues? Will it work just like that, or will I need to retrieve something from my S5 before I swap it?
Thanks.
EDIT: I should clarify that the device is unactivated, and when I do activate it, I will be porting my existing number from Verizon.

Used Verizon G2 questions

I just picked up a used verizon G2 to use on the Straight Talk service. First issue. I pulled the sim card from my old straight talk phone and put it in the G2. It instantly said unknown sim but, when i restarted the phone i had service. Problem is, i still have the unknown sim icon and cant seem to use LTE. Second issue. im stuck on 4.4.2 because it will not allow me to download any system updates. Im hoping there is a way to manually update. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you want to update hook up the phone to a windows pc and install the verizon software updater that is built into the flash memory when you plug it in. It will download and apply the Lolipop update. You should figure out what straight talk sim you have because it could be a verizon one, but most likely it's an at&t one so you'll need to edit your apn settings.
What provider is your Straight Talk SIM running off of? T-Mobile? AT&T?
The Verizon G2 only has LTE bands 4 and 13. B13 is Verizon-only, while B4 is used by multiple carriers.
If T-Moible, B4 is the primary band, but if you are in a rural area that TMO refarmed, LTE will be on B2 instead.
If AT&T, their primary LTE band is B5, but there are some select areas that have it on B4 also.
The "Unknown SIM" icon is because the Verizon ROM detects a non-Verizon SIM card. I'm sure there are ways to get rid of it via rooting, or just flash a custom ROM. If your Straight Talk is going through T-Mobile, there's a T-Mobile ROM in the dev forum that adds some TMO functionality like Wifi Calling.
I was able to upgrade to Lollipop using the verizon software and my pc so thanks for that!
The sim I am using is an AT&T straight talk sim. Do they have a sim just for verizon LTE networks?

For new lines, you can stick your phone's IMEI into ST's BYOP checker and if it checks out, you can order a Verizon LTE SIM. For existing lines, probably easier to just call up CS and ask.
I just ordered a verizon LTE sim card from straight talk. They transfered my number to a new sim once before, I'm sure they can do it again. If not, I can live with a new number to have a working phone again.

I am reading all kinds of conflicting stories. Some say it'll work, but 3g speeds only. BUT, it appears that MAYBE the VS980 can now use verizon 4g towers . . maybe in the last few months. I am using the Straight Talk CDMA service on a few of my phones at the moment. I usually use a Nexus 6 but I had to send it in for a problem and have a Verizon LG G2 and a Verizon HTC M8. The sim card works on both of these phones at LTE speeds. At least in my area, Verizon still seems the most reliable for me. It might not be the fastest service but I don't have issues with missed texts and dropped calls like I do with some other services I have tried.
Hope this helps.

[Q] VZ Nexus, going to Europe

Question....I bought my Nexus 6 from Verizon, rooted it, did the whole OEM Unlock....
I'm flying to Europe (Germany, Austria, Italy, and Greece) in 40 days to visit family, and Verizon's International Rates are ridiculous. My brother told me about http://www.knowroaming.com/, but on the site it states that you must have an Unlocked GSM phone. Would this still work on the Nexus 6? The other option I have is using a T-Mo SIM card in Europe since my brother works for them and he said he could simply give me one.
I guess my question...in order of what's best:
1: The KnowRoaming SIM option
2: T-Mo SIM
I'll have access to WiFi all over Germany and Austria, but will depend more on the Mobile Web in Italy and Greece. I'll use Google Hangouts to chat with my family in the U.S. while I'm abroad, but still need access to make calls in an emergency.
All Nexus 6 are unlocked GSM.
Ok, that's what I thought....I just know that Verizon is KNOWN for mucking stuff up and locking things down, so I wasn't sure.

Except the AT&T variant. The AT&T carrier lock is "unlockable" after the device has been paid off.

Thanks for confirming that. I even knew that once
Well, leaving in less than 2 weeks. My brother has a T-Mo SIM card for me with 10GB of data. I don't need Voice since I'll call home to the U.S. using WiFi from his house in the evenings and in an emergency I can use his phone to call home if we're not near WiFi. Hopefully the T-Mo SIM is recognized without any hiccups.

You may only have to change the APN settings but it will work as long as it is activated.

Yes, that's what I thought. My brother actually works for T-Mo and has the proper APN Info for me so we can enter it as soon as I touch down in Munich. I've also decided to leave my DSLR at home and use the Nexus as my only Camera while I'm out there.
