[Q] [HELP] Active cmdline overflow! (1025 Bytes) - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
I've had 0 problems since I started off with my HTC One (m7).
Last rom I used was Cynogenmod v3 "http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/development/rom-cyanogenmod-11s-4-4-4-int-l-att-t-t2822636"
It was nice but I wanted to revert to stock Sense 5.5 Rom
So as I always installed my roms. with TWRP
I did a wipe (not internal storage, cuz i want to keep my photos)
Installed this rom "DLX_WL_K442_SENSE55_MR_4.19.401.8_odexed"
wiped dalvic cache etc etc
when I pressed the reboot button it asked me to install SuperSU or not.
I clicked Yes
After that the HTC boot logo showed up & i got straight into the Fastboot screen & got this weird Error with a red line saying :
"Active cmdline overflow! (1025 Bytes)"
Here is what i see on my screen right now :

DLX is for DROID DNA, so you have flashed a rom for the HTC Droid DNA on your HTC One M7 which have corrupted your MISC partition (mmblck0p19). This partition can not be restored using a RUU or a ROM. Your only hope to get your phone back in a working state is by following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2739126.
Next time, before flashing a rom, read carefully!
from the rom thread:
Details
CDMA and GSM support
Completely stock
Not rooted with possibility to root (with Rooting Tools)
No busybox included with possibility to add busybox (with Rooting Tools)
Target device: HTC Droid DNA (PL8320000)

unless you can get to a working custom recovery, then you're in trouble, if the ones mentioned in the thread don't work, keep trying other ones

I'll give the TWRP older versions a try,
Why would someone post a rom that bricks pretty much every other pff.

Have you tried CWM6.0.2.8? has worked for a few S-On guys
also try the newer TWRPs, in particular 2.7.1.1 and 2.7.1.0
also try doing a "factory reset" in bootloader, that should clear a part of the misc partition.

Is that a serious question?

I've tried every single recovery in your thread.
I couldn't get it to work.
still boots directly into the bootloader screen & when i press recovery.
the screen saying it's entering shows up for like a half second and jumps back to start.

The question is why would someone flash a rom without taking an additional 1 minute to read the OP
The rom you have flashed was posted in the Droid DNA forum
The Dev specifies in the OP that the target device is the Droid DNA
unfortunately, you must have a working recovery to repair the misc partition. If you can't flash one even after following the guide from nkk71, you can not do much more yourself. Maybe it could be fixed with a JTAG flash?

I'll just try my phone provider.
If they won't repair it i'll just trow it in the garbage bin & get myself a m8 or G3..

if you can find someone to s-off your phone by java card then you can downgrade your HBOOT to 1.44 and the recovery will work, a working rom is not required for any of these steps.
I used these people in the UK: http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/Unlocking/htc_s-off_service.htm

omg that would be great.
I'm currently researching over internet to find some people who can unbrick @ the netherlands.
First time i hear about JTAG & java cards tho
I'm getting a bit hopefull so I really hope someone can get it to S-off & downgrade it.
or else it'll cost me another 34 euro a month for a new phone subscription. that's 2x 34 = 68 euro monthly. hurts my wallet xD

if you call fun fone shop and are willing to pay postage to the UK to them and return postage, they will do it for you.

How much do they charge for it?
UK is pretty close so the postage shouldn't be that much.

As if I'd never touched it

Is there a way to make it so my HTC One is back to complete factory settings. I want it back as if I'd never touched it. Unrooted, locked, S-ON, HTC Sence, stock firmware, etc.
I'm not so great at all this stuff, so some simple instructions rather than just a tonne of links would be great! Eg. flash this, do this, install this recovery, etc.
Thanks,
Joe

you want to return it to stock like if you had never touched it.. So you want stock software, locked bootloader and S-ON ? If you are not sending your phone for a repair under warranty, I'll recommend you to keep unlocked bootloader and S-OFF or at least locked bootloader but S-OFF. Do you want to be on latest stock version? If yes then its almost impossible to s-off again on hboot 1.56.
What is your goal to restore your phone back to 100% stock?
Also need to know what operating system is on your computer.

Just in case I do need to send it off for repair or replacement, I don't want a tampered device. Just don't want that risk. I'm running WIndows 7.

You should keep s-off unless really necessary, not ''just in case''. If you need to send your phone for repair in the future, with s-off, you'll be able to remove the tampered flag and s-on again before sending it back to repair. But atm turning back S-ON is the risk you should not take imo.
Again if you go back to stock and update your phone to the latest version then it will be very difficult or even not possible to s-off again.
Im waiting your decision to guide you.
S-OFF is a gift and should never be taken for granted. If you throw it away it may not be available to you again.
S-ON is an operation I would defer until I learned that I actually *need* to send in the phone to someone who cares if it is S-ON or not.
S-ON is always the last step in any "going back to stock " process, the very last thing before the phone leaves your possession. And even then the step is usually optional. Warranty repair people often don't care, eBay doesn't care, it's just really rare that there is *any* actual benefit.

Okay, I think I'll stick with S-OFF, I just want a really stable build, as close to stock as possible. Decent battery life, decent speed, and not too much hassle to return to complete stock if necessary.
I'll take your advice on what you think is best!

Easy to do with S-OFF
So you can use the latest RUU for your phone which you can find here
this will make your phone 100% stock (except s-off and unlocked bootloader). This will wipe everything on your phone so be sure to backup your media and personal data before on your computer.
download the exe file (about 1.5Gb)
plug your phone to your computer ( I assume your htc drivers are already installed correctly, if yes, your device is listed as ''My HTC'' in windows device manager)
launch the ruu.exe and follow instructions.

Hi there,
I downloaded the RUU and ran it and followed all instructions but it encounters an error every time. It doesn't give any information on what the error is, it just stays on the silver HTC logo and the software says it has failed. It doesn't get stuck in a bootloop though.
Thanks,
Joe

I just read somewhere that hboot 1.44 might be needed, and I have 1.54. So I shall flash 1.44 and see if it works then!
EDIT: When trying to flash hboot 1.44 it won't even send the 501kb zip file, even through a brand new usb cable. Updating drivers now to see if that works

[Q] HTC One M7 firmware help!

Hey guys,
Sorry if I am in the wrong place for this question but I am completely stuck. I recently bought a HTC One M7 which was rooted. I did not know this when I was buying it. The new update came out and my phone asked me to update. I hit yes. My phone switched off and didn't come back on. After extensive research I got it back on to find the following:
1) It was rooted
2)Bootloader started up and TWRP is on the phone
3) There is now nothing on the phone. No firmware or packages at all
4) When I try to flash anything I get the error message: can't mount to system. I can mount to everything else ok just not internal storage.
I am unsure what recovery image and RUU to use. The phone (I was told was unlocked) was O2(Giffgaff).

it seems to be both. I try to flash RUU via fastboot and I get a signature fail. So I try to flash a ROM to the phone and it says failed to mount system. I put the items on a usb and tried it but get an 'unable to unzip' error. Its a bit above me to be honest. Thank you so much for helping.

When you say run the RUU to you mean the RUU from the desktop or directly from the phone? How do I know if I have the correct RUU? the closest one I could find was for O2 and the radio was the same down to the last digit being different. Sorry for sounding stupid but it is a lot to take in for such a noob. I read that I need to flash a boot recovery image and then run the RUU is that right?

Post a fastboot getvar all
RUU.exe files or ROM Update Utility files are executable files that run on Windows PC
RUU.zip files are simply the same as above but rather than using a Windows exe file to run them, they are packaged in a zip file that can be flashed in Fastboot mode
The RUU has to match your CID/MID. If your S-On, the RUU as to be same version or higher

OMG My phone literally did the same exact thing today!! I woke up, a few things were force closing so I decided that I would just reboot the phone...... Big mistake, once I did that, the phone just stayed in the booting up animation. So I figured hey what ever ill just reflash the ROM in TWRP.......Nope, couldn't boot into recovery either, the phone would flash the TWRP screen then just reset itself. Again, I thought no biggie ill just reinstall TWRP. This (again) proved to be useless, after multiple (successful) install's the phone still refused to boot into TWRP. So I finally got CWM to install, a noticed a few things at the bottom of the screen about something not being mounted properly, I didn't pay that much attention to it, i just wanted my phone back at that point. I tried to wipe my phone for a fresh flash, but as soon as the wipe began the phone reset itself. At this point I was on the brink of throwing this thing into the torrential down-pour that god decided to place in my city.
Next I tried to install Viper ROM because I knew it had a wipe functionality built into it's Aroma installer. Went through all the checklists got to the start install screen, clicked next, and then began to wipe......... and then reset again........
So finally I got TWRP reinstalled, and go install a fresh ROM and and immediately met with a screen full of : "Unable to Mount XXXXXXX" (Picture attached). So then I figure alright well my last resort has to be to use a RUU. Found this nice little thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316726) and decided to use the FUU (4.19.401.11 Full Wipe). Unfortunately all that did was move my HBoot from 1.4 (or something like that) to 1.5 (or something like that), put the tamper flag back, and bring back the annoying red text at the bottom of the phone at boot (the thing about development build, blah blah blah). I reinstalled TWRP yet again hoping for the best, but still nothing. It cant seem to mount anything (what ever that means).
So now im here, stuck using my old One X. Any suggestions or answers or criticism would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!!!!!

Thanks for that! I have downloaded it and tried to run it but it doesn't open? I get the loading message after I click run as administrator but nothing happens. Do I need HTC sync installed or deleted for this?
Thanks

HELP Soft Bricked HTC One M7 (Sprint) S-ON, No OS, RUU Not Running

So I got my HTC one and rooted it immediately and Installed Cyanogenmod 11. I love Cyanogenmod but my SMS and MMS messages were all screwed up. I booted back up from my backup and noticed that It was running Android 4.3, 4.4 is available so I tried to install the update, It failed so I realized this must be because I was rooted so I went about going back to stock HTC Sense. I relocked the bootloader and ran RUU but the program crashed. After that I was only able to get to the fastboot page, recovery would crash. I ran a few different verisons of RUU but each one failed (error 155 being most prevalent). I unlocked my bootloader again and cyanogenmod started to boot up but never got through. I wipe data and cache. CM still won't boot. I reflashed the CWM recovery and tried to load the back up that I had. I get multiple errors about not being able to mount /system, /cache everything. I installed TWRP and tried to do sideload, not working. I have a USB OTG cable and I tried to load files that way, no good. I don't have S-Off and I can't boot into a rom so I can't get S-Off. I've exhausted google, not sure what to do now. Here is a breakdown.

I Will check MD5 when I get back from work. I have all security disabled, not even firewall is enabled, I've used windows seven and I have relocked my boot loader. I was able to find an alternative version of The RUU I needed on the same thread I downloaded from. Here is the working link to the thread/download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576995.

That is official RUU, your BEST hope! http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_..._NV_SPCS_4.38_003_release_348053_signed_2.exe
Lock your bootloader, put the phone in bootloader mode where it says FASTBOOT USB on your phone screen and run the RUU package. IF It is NOT working, please post back with screenshot of the error!

Mine would do the same thing eventually I would get an error on the PC. When I finally found a RUU that matched my exact system "version-main: 3.05.651.6" It ran very smoothly. Make sure the RUU you have on matches your version number that is shown when you boot to bootloader.

How did you get it to have no OS? If the phone is off and you first hold down the volume down button then the power button (keep them pressed till the screen lights up). Make sure that you've also had it charged.

I have flashed TWRP 2.8.1.0 (latest version)
I am S-ON
I tried to unroot my phone and firewater told me that my kernel contains anti-firewater files.
so i decieded to flash ARHD, while flashing, I wiped my phone and after that I couldnt flash any ROMs. ( ARHD and a ROM that HTC has sent for me)
I want to flash HTC sense rom and return to stock.
thanks

[Q] Just need stock recovery. No root. No ROM. S-ON

I am computer stupid. More so with phones. This is my brothers old phone. It has TWRP installed. Not rooted. No custom ROM.
All I want to do is get back the stock recovery so I can get this annoying "System update available" message to stop popping up all the time. The update is for software version 6.07.1540.1. Looks like it would upgrade to 4.4.3 as well.

That is what the bootloader has on it. It is the developer edition if that changes anything. I am using it currently on Straight Talk.
Android Version is 4.4.2
Sense Version is 6
Software number is 5.11.1540.9

Ok let's start with some preliminary basics so I can understand exactly what I'm dealing with here
Do you know what adb is, and how to use it?
Do you know what fastboot is and how to use it?
What Operating system do you have on your pc? Windows 8 or 7, Linux, or if your using a Mac, Mac osx?

no to adb. yes to fastboot. I can make the bootloader say "fastboot usb". I have the fastboot stuff on my windows 8 laptop.
I am using windows 8 on this laptop but have his windows 7 laptop that he used which should still have all the tools needed to put TWRP on there.

Ok well it's better to use Windows 7, Windows 8 drivers can be problematic and may confuse things.
Do you know if your brother has used ota updates since unlocking the bootloader? The reason I ask is that unlocking the bootloader wipes some important pre-loaded apps from the device. And will cause the update to fail and soft-brick the phone.
Your brother may have known this so it's possible he restored the complete stock Rom previously but it's better to know before hand.
Can you connect fastbootusb then in the fastboot command line type
Code:
fastboot getvar all
Then post the output here. Please Edit out the imei and Serial no from the information before posting.

I know he intended to put a custom ROM on but never did. All he did was install TWRP. There have been no OTA updates that came out since he did that. This one is the first. He did root through TWRP once but ran into a boot loop and restored through TWRP to before the Root and always has said no when TWRP ask if you want to root.

Ok good thanks. So are you against using a custom Rom? It may be the easiest way to update the phone at this point and will solve the problem of the annoying update notification.
Or would you prefer to keep it stock?

I would like to keep it stock because I plan on selling it on eBay soon. Maybe. Stock phones bring in more cash than custom ROM phones.
Though if it is too difficult to bring to stock, I will ROM it and just keep it. As I understand it, if it's a good ROM it can help keep it up to par with current phones a little longer than a stock ROM would.
How hard will it be to get the stock recovery. Your questions make it seem like it is going to be quite an undertaking.
If that is the case, then yes I will custom ROM it.
Though I would like to know what the process would be for the stock recovery. Just to see if it would be something I could do. It does not have to be a detailed explanation. Just something to get a better idea of.

That's why all the questions, I'm just trying to understand exactly what you expect the end result to be since the procedures are quite different depending on what you want to end up with.
To be honest getting a stock recovery is easy very easy. But restoring the stock pre-load data is not. You need a complete stock Rom including the pre-loaded apps or the OTA update will soft-brick your phone. Normally not difficult to recover from but in some cases has caused irreversible effects.
Returning to stock for sale or Warranty is whole different ball game. For that you first need to make the device s-off.
Currently it is s-on so you won't be able to set the bootloader back to ****LOCKED**** and you won't be able to remove the ****TAMPERED**** flag on the bootloader screen. There for the buyer or repair center would know that the phone was tampered with at some point.
You can use a reset zip to restore the stock software but the only one I can find for your device is older than your current firmware and again will cause problems when installing ota updates.
Once again because the phone is s-on you cannot downgrade the firmware only HTC signed firmware updates are possible with s-on.
This I'd why I suggested a custom Rom. You can simply flash a custom 4.4.3 Rom and that's that. The ota update notification will be gone and the phone will be running the latest software.
Custom roms generally are better in performance than Stock roms and yes you can normally get custom roms for newer software releases than were ment for the device. Although official support has not ended for the HTC One so there are still updates to come.
If you do want to return to stock to sell the phone your first priority is achieving s-off. Then take a look at this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541082.
The procedure for flashing a recovery weather it is stock or custom is the same and very simple. Download your chosen recovery. (which will be a .img file) put the .img file in your fastboot folder on your pc.
Now connect fastbootusb in the bootloader and in the command line type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "nameofrecovery".img
fastboot erase cache
Obviously changeing "nameofrecovery".img for the actual name of the recovery file.
Or last and probably best option would be to achieve s-off. Then you can do pretty much whatever you want to it.

[SOLVED] [Q] Struggling to return to stock on T-Mobile UK / Orange / EE HTC One

Hi Folks,
Have seen a few other threads where people are having issues with returning to stock, but not sure whether my particular hurdle has come up on there so thought I'd put in a new thread to get some help.
My HTC One was on the Carrier 4.4.3 update, however I wanted to get S-OFF and put it on a generic WWE edition so if/when 5.0 Lollipop comes out, i wouldn't have to wait forever for EE to get it sorted out.
I followed multiple guides online to try and S-OFF but to no avail, I think one of the last OTA's has patched my OS so cannot use rumrunner / firewater or sunshine.
I want to return to stock but am having huge issues finding an appropriate recovery for it. So far i can use one of the ORANG001 Nandroid files to get me back to 2.24.61.1, and the OTA starts to download to start upgrading me. But no matter what stock HTC recovery I flash, the phone gets stuck in a bootloop after it applies the update.
For now I've resorted to using MaximusHD 44.0 with TWRP recovery to get my phone up and running again. but would prefer to return to stock as I'm having issues with certain finance apps that I know do not work at all on rooted apps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :fingers-crossed:

what error did sunshine finally give you? cause the bad kernel you mentioned earlier shouldn't be the deciding factor, kernel (boot.img) is flashable even without s-off

The reason you are having touble with the nandroid and the OTA is your nandoid is a 2.xx version and your firmware version is 6.xx. I could not find a RUU, Guru Reset or nandroid for your version. Hopefully someone has a stock 6.16.61.1 nandroid they can post for you.
@Danny201281 Could you give a hand with this situation.

Hi @nkk71, I just kept getting a 'Bad Kernel' message no matter which ROM/Kernel combination I tried.
Reverted to the stock Nandroid mentioned in my OP, didn't work
Tried MaximusHD (think you recommended that when we spoke on the IRC on Saturday), Still didn't work
Tried multiple different kernels recommended in forums, preyed, still didn't work
Gave up, decided to go back to stock .... started looking like this ->:silly:

The majority of items at that site are for building kernels. So, more than likely there are no stock recovery there for your phone.

wait, let me understand you fully: you flashed ROMs and then a custom kernel??
you should just flash stock ROM (includes stock kernel), such as the ones found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759000
(unselect stock recovery, unselect radio, unselect root)
or MaximusHD is also known to work
BUT you should not be flashing any custom kernels!! (bulletproof, elementalX, etc) those will break sunshine's ability to work.

Hi @nkk71,
Could Sunshine have been effected by the firmware version 6.xx that I have? seems to be a bit of a headache that one.

the "bad kernel" shouldn't be one of those errors, even if your device is not compatible, have you read my previous post about not using a custom kernel?

Replied to you at the same time as you sending this message, tried with both custom kernel and non custom kernel. Got the same result each time.

Well this is embarrassing!!
@majmoz @nkk71 @jcase, I just downloaded Sunshine so i could get a screen shot for jcase ... and the darn thing worked!!!
I literally stayed up all night on Friday till the birds were chirping outside and couldn't get it working and then spent most of the weekend trying to get back to stock, in the end having to make do with the latest version of MaximusHD.
The only thing that has been different for me is that I have run SunShine on the newest version of MaximusHD (4.4.3) rather than the older 4.2.2 version.
I feel like a right idiot right now, I'm really sorry about this guys!.
