Hye guys, I searched all over the internet, couldn't find anything similar.
My Xperia Z1 was all fine today, until it suddenly turned off, and when i turn it back on, it shows the Sony Logo, boots and suddenly turns off.
I tried connecting the charger, and for the first time ever, it shows the battery logo with the amount of charge on it, and it doesn't charge, the LED doesn't light up.
I had around 50 percent battery, so i decided to flash my phone using the software updater, and it wont update, the process freezes and says unable, and now when i turn my phone on, it says some message about update failing and connect to pc.
Guys, my questions are:
1. why the hell doesnt it charge and shows up a battery with charge amount on it?
2. Why does it keeps turning off after boot?
Please help me guys, i really need it and its urgent. Im running Kitkat 4.4.4 and not rooted. Never did anything, but used it as it is. Never had previous issues.
Guys, I just flashed it using the software updater, it did flash but still it boots and dies off, and doesnt charge. Please help. Just shows the amount of battery on it.
It seems that your battery is totally empty or has hardware problem. If you have dock to charge your device use that over night and try again to boot it up.

Right, I will try the dock tomorrow and see, but I wonder why it shows the battery with the amount of charge in it. I still don't understand why the phone recognizes the charger but doesn't charge,
What if i replace the battery? Will it be worth doing so?
Anyone?
May I ask in where exactly it boot up? Whole OS or Sony logo or something else? Also if it show amount of battery how much it show in it?

well, it boots up to that wave thing, u know? Sony logo comes up, then Xperia and the waves keep going on, and everything fully loads upto where the brightness level also falls to the level set and it just turns off.
The battery icon has like 8 - 10 bars, and around 5 bars were filled, but now it has like 2 bars because the battery eventually died as i tried different stuff, but it never charged,

You said you previous post that you successfully flash it using software updater so I think you better go to Sony service center and use your warranty.

Yes, i was able to flash it successfully,
I just bought a new Xperia Z1, I did not have warrenty for my phone here in Srilanka, plus got one of the water indicators red ages ago. I'll try give it to some repair center and get it repaired, but I still don't understand whats up with it, and why nobody else had this issue, like ever.
Thanks for all your support.
sounds like some kind of boot loops!
don`t worry bro. this issue some times happened with a bunch of reasons but always its simply fix by flashing an .FTF of stock ROM on it. so don`t worry about it and if they couldn't repair your phone come back here and tell me to help you.
I am afraid that his problem ain't the bootloop. Problem is that his device won't charge. If one have hardly any battery left flashing any ROM would be problem.

Exactly, because bro my phone doesn't charge. If it charges I would be able to do something with it. But when the battery is dead its gone forever probably.
I did the hard reset, flashed the phone, tried different chargers, it still doesnt CHARGE, but shows a battery icon with the battery level on it.
How are charging it, may be the USB ports are damaged, try the magnetic port or a dock

Tried both the dock and the charger, still connects and shows the battery icon with the level on it. Its so annoying because nobody has ever had this issue.
I handed it over to some repair shop and bought a new Xperia Z1. I will update you guys with the fault of the phone as soon as i can.
hey guys,
I just sent my phone to Sony Center, I gave it to a local shop and he said it seem to be a software issue, but it doesnt still work.

You say you had a water indicator red. I'm no expert but to me it sounds like water damage. Sometimes a phone damaged by water can take a long time to show symptoms.
Bear in mind though like I said I am not an expert

Exactly what i thought, It might be water damage, but the stupid thing keeps turning on until it boots, and the worst thing is it shows the battery with a set of bars on it as the battery level when the charger it pluugged and no LED indication is shown.

hey,
I have an xperia black on the latest official rom. r3a (something)
just a few hours ago the phone was automatically switched off,
it was fully charged and it just went blank.
i tried switching it back on but no luck.
just one time it was powered on and was stuck at the XPERIA screen for 3-4 minutes and then again went blank.
when i connect to pc , my pc says usb device not recognized and keeps detecting my device.
now i have connected the phone to the wall and the red power led blinks after 20 seconds. when i press the power button the side leds dont blink or respond, just the top one blinks after 20 sec. the battery is cold.
i tried reinserting the battery alot of times and then put it back to chg for 30 mins, still no luck.
i searched alot but didnt find a solution. please help
hehe it is an expensive buy........
charge the battery using wall charger for the whole day and then turn it on - your battery must have died compleatly somehow and this happens to loads of people if the charge gets too low

No I haven't. But if this happened to me, I would be back at the place where I bought it in no time!
See if you can use someone else's battery to see if the X1 still works with that. This sounds like a seriously dead battery which needs to be replaced.
Good luck!
Calm down. Most people visit the forume once a day or less. You can't expect them to answer right away.
Your problem afaik is that the phone can't detect the battery. Read this and tell us if it helped you.

maybe it is a case of dead battery....
my question is , can the battery be dead instantly, because it was fully chged and suddenly it was all blank.?

I don't think that is possible. It probably is a hardware fault in the phone itself. Maybe a connector or something burned itself out. Unfortunatelly that can be fixed only by professionals.
My advice is to take the battery out for a couple of hours, then put it back and let it charge. If there is no response after the charging go to a repair shop .
Keep us informed on how it goes .
well i went to the company today, the one who deals with the warranty and they refused to take the phone under warranty saying that the phone looks drop dead, ( i have quite a few of them scrathes on the back)
i dont know how he asumed that it has been dropped, anyhow i was disappointed and took it to a local repair shop and they checked it with another battery and still no luck so they said they will have to flash the phone and it will be ok.
BUT!!!
when i came home i just blew on the battery terminal on the phone and inserted the battery and the phone switched on YESSSS!!!, but after some time it was halt again and was switched off, now sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesnt, when ever i blow on the terminals it comes on otherwise it wont.
can it be the case of moisture inside the phone?
because the day it faulted, that day i was sweating and i had the phone in may pocket.
if yes please whats the solution.?
thanks in advance
ps
the phone is also very slow to boot
the screen is also flicking a little
the red light under the power button is telling u that the battery has run out. if u get it with a fully charged battery it either means the battery is dead (in the sense that if will never charge or hold its charge etc) or the handset is buggered. best bet is to phone SE and get the phone fixed or battery replace (u will probably have to send the phone and battery to repair but SE might have a way to test if its the battery or phone).
also there may be a prob with the connection from the handset to the battery.
hey guys, my rooted 2.3.4 stock gingerbread optimus black doesn't come on unless plugged in to the charger. the issue started 3 days ago when i was playing virtual tennis sega and it was connected to the charger. at first my phone got very hot and then it restarted.i continued playing the game after it restarted and it later got hot and again went off, but this time blinking as it went off. i removed the battery and put it back but it remained same. i later removed the battery for a whole day and inserted it back the next day but it remained the same. i later plugged it to the charger and it came on and booted all the way to my home screen. i could even use the phone normally, but anytime i remove the charger it goes off. also, anytime i put on the camera while its plugged in it goes off and shows the battery icon charging. i have done a factory reset but its still the same. please help me.
Try another battery
I think it might be loose or dead
If it was software...it would have turned on
could be your battery, hard to tell though, what if it's pluged to the PC?

If your phone still turns on while pluged to the computer you can use smartflash to go back to stock rom and this will get you back to warranty
phone still wont come on without charger

To me it seems like it is a sudden death problem.... You should send it to sony for repair.
Does the LED blinks bright red? If so, it could be either battery problem or hard brick...
For battery problem, charging the phone while turned off for a few hours should fix it. But then you said you had charged it for almost a day. Most likely a hard brick..... Sony would just charge you hundreds of $$ for swapping the motherboard...

It may be possible, because Xperia V's battery problem is really widespread. The voltage control inside the battery can be easily fried after prolonged overheating (yes I learnt it the hard way) and XV is very prone to overheating.
My XV's battery died after a night of continuos overheating caused by normal charging... then the phone would suddenly turn off without any warning. The problem gets worse each day and only disappears when I bought a new battery.
I would suggest trying a new battery pack and see if it fixes... because if you do bring it to Sony, they would charge you insane amount of $$ if it's no longer covered by warranty

Don't worry mate, as long as you have warranty they won't charge you. If it will cost you anything they will give you a cost estimate
Hello!
Yes, it's right. I guess it's my turn to get the sudden death of my beloved Xperia Z1.
It's dead, but I don't think it's completely dead and I'm hoping for some help from tech navy's around here and from other people who got the sudden death issue so here's what happened:
I woke up early in the morning at around 8 am and the battery was at 9% and I had no time to put it on charger because I'm in a hurry, so I said I'll put it on charger in car same as always. I use the magnetic cable that I removed from the dock (cuz my sis lost my charging cable, I have to use my magnetic one every time) and I almost always charge my phone in the car with that cable. The phone was working perfectly so I locked the screen and connected the magnetic charger and the charging light didn't come on so I wanted to check if it's charging.... and found out that it's dead (no charging LED, not turning on, no Power + Volume up vibration, no nothing) so I went back to the house and put it on my mother's charger (Micro USB) and got a red LED light as if it's charging, but it's not. still doesn't power up and everything and yes, I've tried the reset button near the SIM card, nothing wants to work.
I took it to Sony service center later that day and they said it will take 3 days because of the traffic they're having, and I have no warranty because I bought it on release which is more than a year ago. After 3 days, they told me that it's a motherboard problem and it got water damaged (while the last time I put it in water was about 2 weeks before that day, and he saw that the white thing is red) and it can't be fixed pay some money and take a new one (just phone no boxing no nothing) and I said no thanks and took the phone to another shop and he checked it and told me that he can't fix it.
I cracked open my phone and I can't see any water damage in it, everything seems to be perfectly fine. I've tried everything I could think of, everything I read on the internet, but nothing seems to work, and the pc doesn't even notice that I connected my phone, I've tried connecting it in fast boot, and flash mode, but nothing works it just keeps the red LED light on. Disconnecting the batter didn't help at all.
I called Sony service center and asked them if I can buy a motherboard from them and they said that they don't even have replacement parts for any Z series phone because they're not authorized by Sony to repair the waterproof/resistant Z series phones (The service center here isn't Sony, but it's an authorized service center by Sony) so at that point I lost hope to get it repaired.
All that happened back in January, but now that summer is here, I want to fix it somehow. But I have no clue where to start, and I'm not sure how to confirm that it's the motherboard that's damaged. is there a way to find exactly where the problem is? I have a soldering iron and everything needed to repair the phone, all I need is to know where's the problem! I can buy parts off of internet, and I will if I need to, but I'm not gonna buy a whole motherboard from ebay because I simply can't trust that motherboard.
Sorry for the lengthy post, and thanks for any help you'll give.
Regards,
~J2C

leave your phone for a weed and try to charge it . if your phone still led light I think your battery die not your phone .
Your battery is dead, if you have taken it apart already just buy a new battery or buy a micro usb lithium battery charger from ebay and hook it up to your battery (by itself) I posted about my experience here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/help/red-led-flashes-charging-solution-t3141345 If you have access to voltmeter you can check the battery voltage, it is like 2.6v or there abouts. Your phone will not charge a battery this far gone.

I don't think that the battery is dead, because:
1- I get a STABLE red light when I put it on charger or connect it to PC.
2- I've tried a method that's said to revive a dead battery on a Z1 (or Z series) and it didn't work.
3- If it was really the battery, then this should've worked! But no, When I connect the motherboard with test point properly connected, the PC just doesn't recognize the phone.

I followed all those methods as well and none worked for me either. Measure your battery voltage with a voltmeter, it is the cheapest way to verify if the issue is battery or something else.

Hello!
I finally got access to a multimeter today and checked my battery's voltage and it was about 3V so I can confirm that the problem is not the battery.
It must be some kind of hardware problem, and I don't think that you really did try the test point fix and you just said yea yea bla bla YOUR BATTERY IS THE PROBLEM! No, it's not.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

I've charged it, and still not working.
Bumping cuz I want my good ol' Z1 back
I've experienced a "sudden death" once, it was really scary to me.
I've flashed a custom rom, rebooted and went to bed directly without waiting "android is upgrading" or whatever.
The next day I saw that my phone was not opening. There was no red led to indicate low battery, I plugged to charger for some seconds and didn't see a red light to indicate "charging" so it was weird to me. The solution was to charge it for more than 30 minutes and afterwards it went to 1%! Maybe you should try to charge with the cable like normally and wait for a while

Hope it works! 30 minutes was so long and worrying though :silly:

Nope!
You obviously had a dead battery, and I've already left it on charger for 2 continuous days.
I clearly have a hardware problem. Probably a dead chip as the phone died the moment I connected the magnetic charger.

If u disasassembled your phone then simply disconnect battery, connect phone to pc (with disconected battery) with pressed volume button down, if phone working u should see blue led light (flashmode)-if this happen then your battery is fault (maybe not, try to flash stock rom if u see flashmode), if not then it is mainboard.

I don't think that you actually read the first post, but no problem.
The computer doesn't recognize the phone at all, with or without battery. And I've posted a link a couple of posts back that leads to a "hard brick fix" thread and even that didn't work for me.
Anyways, I just tried what you told me to try, but no. No flashmode, no fastboot, no nothing.

Yes i actually read your post but sometimes phone will not be able to connect with pc if battery is fault, it happens when user have Sleep of death, thats why i say to connect withouth battery to pc.
Hello.
Please take your time to read this message.. It contains detailed information about this case...
I have a broken Z1 phone which I'm trying to fix. It all started with the phone turning off randomly, and wasn't possible to turn it back on. Not using the power button/red reset button or using power + volume up together (this worked previous times).
When the screen died, I could see white blocks of pixels moving around a few seconds before it completely shut down. There were no signs of life after that, the LED was completely dead as well. The computer didn't notice the device if I connected it with a USB cable. If I tried to charge the phone, the LED wouldn't turn red.
I decided to wait for a week in order to see if the battery could run out of charge. So after a week I took the USB cable and started to charge it. The LED turned back on, with a red color, which is correct when it is charging.
I thought it would work to boot - but nope, it did not work at all. Now is the time I decided to open up my device. I used a heat gun to heat the back edges of the phone. I then used some palastic tool to open the back cover from the phone. It all went very smooth and I disconnected the battery from the phone (removed the cable from the motherboard).
I let it be for about 10 minutes. After that I inserted the cable back to the motherboard, and tried to boot. This time, nothing happend again.. So I started to charge it, and a screen came up saying 1% battery... So I let it charge the battery for a few hours until it rached 100%.
The battery is now 100% charged. The phone still refuses to boot up the first time. The second time I tried, it worked. I was able to connect my phone to my computer, so I took a backup of all files. I downloaded Sony PC Companion, and made a factory reset. This went very smooth as well.
I thought everything was fixed after this - but nope. The phone randomly shuts down a few times, and each and every time, I'm just starting it again (it did crash both when I was using it, and when I did not). I was speaking on the phone with it yesterday for 1 hour (used a bluetooth device), without the back cover connected to the phone. The call went very good and the phone didn't crash anymore that evening.
I thought everything was good, once again. So I was letting my phone be powered on during the night when I was sleeping. When I woke up, I went to check the phone - and it was: dead.
Since this, I have not been able to power it on again. No matter what I do. I have tried to disconnect the battery, check for cables that aren't fixed and so on.. But everything seems to be OK.
My thought was that the battery was bad, so I went to a store in order to check if the battery is OK or not. They tested the battery with some kind of device, and said it has about 40% charge left.. And they didn't see any issues with it.
So... now I'm wondering, what kind of parts do I need in order to fix my phone? Is it just a new battery, or is it the whole motherboard that is gone? What do you think? I know you guys are very experienced, so I have high hopes of help from you.
Regards
Hello!
Sorry to hear about what happened to your Z1, I'm currently in the state that my phone has a red LED when connected to anything and stays like that, PC doesn't even recognize it.
I see your problem is different, I'd suggest you to start here and hope for the best. Unfortunately I can't do that to my phone because PC is not recognizing my device.
Good luck
Regards,

Thanks for your reply. I have already tried that, however, my PC is not recognizing the phone either - so I'm not really sure how to proceed.

Well, thank you...
I decided to take apart the device even more, and I found something on my motherboard, which probably is rust.

Hello.
Have you tried Volume up + power button pressed together for about 10-15 seconds? Do you feel any vibrations, how many?

Download Sony PC Companion, plug in your phone and follow the instructions in order to reset your phone. If that doesn't work, then you have probably had water or some other hardware failure.
Is this problem will cost me a lot of money if I'll bring it back to Sony for them to repair?

Not if you repair via Sony PC Companion. It will re-install the system on the phone, so in case it is a software error, it will be fixed.
However, if that doesn't help, then you need to check if you have any warranty valid on your phone. Even if you have warranty, it is not sure that Sony will cover costs for repairing your device. For example water damages will most likely be refused, and you'll have to pay for it yourself. I don't know how much it would cost though.
