You can....but its not recommended, and if you do it you are doing it at your own risk.
Also keep in mind that if you update the "Germany ROM" to 4.4.4, you can NEVER go back to the Sprint ROM (safely, without great risk of bricking) until Sprint releases their FULL 4.4.4 SBF. Otherwise you would be "downgrading" which is well documented to put you at an extreme risk of bricking.
Good Luck :good:

Yes. It should work just fine for you, but I don't support anything other than the stock sprint rom with my Sim-Crack.
You might TRY this, first: When you flash the 4.4.2 Germany ROM, depending on whether you are using RSD-Lite or Manual Method either:
1. If using RSD Lite, unzip the SBF for the germany rom, and edit the XML file with Notepad or similar. Erase the 2 lines containing "erase modemst1" and "erase modemst2"
2. If using the manual method, simply skip the two commands "fastboot erase modemst1" and "fastboot erase modemst2".
If you do that, the Sim-Crack should persist and you shouldn't have to re-do the entire procedure after you change ROMS.

German Stock Rom for XT1053 running 4.4.3
Hello,
I just registered to the forums today. Have been lurking for a while but since I finally received my Moto X DE today I have a few questions.
*I hope this won't be regarded as hijacking this thread, i just want to avoid opening a new thread for something that might have been posted already.*
My XT1053 is the US GSM Verison, it has been imported. Therefore it german is no language option in the currently installed ROM.
To be able to use touch control etc. in an effective way (english language per se is not the problem) i want to flash a german Stock ROM.
Best suited one i found on sbf-droid is Android 4.4.2 Blur_Version.163.44.2.ghost_row.Retail.en.DE. But i read often that downgrading may make you run into serious issues, even bricking the device.
I also want to be able to receive the german OTA update to 4.4.4 after flashing to 4.4.2, if that is possible. If that is not possible i would even tend to stay on the US 4.4.3 until there is a flashable 4.4.4 german retail on sbf-droid.
This is the current info on my ROM etc.:

Right now everything is running fine with the ROM, except the language issue. I even have 4G. Also i feel no need to root the device right now because I first want to see how it suits me as it is.
Further i read that SafeStrap is able to install the ROM in a new partition. Maybe this is the most secure way to achieve my goal and havng the chance to easily revert if it goes wrong?
So i already searched for a anser to my question but, honestly, all the information i gathered here somehow got mixed up in my head. Now i would feel way better if someone had a heart to give me a quick advice or just a link to the right method.
[TL;DR:] I have a US GSM XT1053 that is totally untouched and running stock 4.4.3 (212.44.21.ghost_row.Retail.en.US).
I want to install a german retail ROM with the ability to update to german 4.4.4 easily and asap.
"Edit: Dang...i just realized that this would have fitted way better into THIS THREAD. sry*

You need to wait until the full 4.4.4 German SBF is available to do this without risk of bricking.
The problem is that you are already on 4.4.3 -- if your phone were on 4.4.2 or earlier, it would not be an issue since you would not be downgrading.
You need to hang tight until the 4.4.4 leaked german sbf is released. If you decide to attempt to downgrade, you are doing it at your own risk and may very well end up with a brick.
Good Luck.

Ok, thank you for the confirmation! So i will just sit tight for the next weeks and F5 F5 F5 F5 F5 on sbf-droid constantly
When 4.4.4 shows up there, i might return to this thread for details...
Hello,
after sitting in my cave, waiting for weeks i am back.
Since yesterday i am getting the US 4.4.4 update offered and it is beginning to annoy me.
Therefore i checked again if there is a german 4.4.4 sbf available.
I found this german 4.4.4 sbf (XT1052_RETAIL-DE_4.4.4_KXA21.12-L1.26_54_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml.zip) on a filefacctory moto X firmware website that i cannot link due to restrictions.
Is it safe to flash it on my US XT1053 that is currently running completely stock (EXCEPT THAT I SWITCHED TO ART RUNTIME!!!) 212.44.21.ghost_row.Retail.en.US?
Also i currently have LTE with my phone in germany, so it would be nice to keep it that way
.
Does anyone have any tips on how to do it the most secure and easy way? Maybe also doing some sort of backup?
Ok,
i just decided to take the US 4.4.4 OTA for now. I don't really miss german, except for the Touchless Control. I will now stick to the US Version until the german Android L SBF is available. I just dont like to wipe the Phone now and then wipe it again in a month or so when Adndroid L is available.

Hiya.
Recently bought a genuine UK SIM-free/unlocked HTC One (M7) online. Noticed that the Android OS is still stuck to 4.3.
I thought Android 4.4.2 is now available to UK customers for unlocked handsets? And what are the improvements to the phone?
Please advice. Thanks.
Use this app to check your CID: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tritonsoft.cidgetter
What CID does it say? For UK unbranded, unlocked handsets it's HTC__001. I got the update just fine.

Same here, I'm from Croatia and have T-Mobile De version, but still can't update.
I've contacted HTC and they removed 4.4.2. update in some places. They'll roll it out again later, probably with Sense 6. We'll have to be patient until then
---------- Post added at 11:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:09 PM ----------
But still, call HTC support for UK and let them check your phone (by IMEI) and tell you if you have the "good" version

Reason why both of you don't have the update yet is because your CID and software is locked to the previous carrier, meaning it's up to them to release the update, not HTC.
This will wipe your phone, but it will unbrand your phone if you follow it correctly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358738
This basically flashes the unbranded version of the ROM and changing the CID to one that HTC does support, so you'll get updates directly from HTC instead of the carrier.
Sorry but right now i'm not prepared to unbrand the phone as it seems to me its too much of a long & winding process. Seeing the link seems too technical for me.
What i have done instead is ring HTC. Gave them the serial number of the phone and they told me that it IS Vodafone-branded phone. They adviced me to contact Vodafone which i did. The Vodafone support person doesn't seem to have a clue to what i'm saying and seems not familiar to how updates are released. He kept on insisting (based on the circumstances i have presented to him|) that Vodafone has nothing to do with updates. Person sounded stupid really.
I tried a Three and an EE SIM card on the One M7 and it works. So far no updates yet.
I can also confirm that being an unlocked phone it has NO Vodafone branding or logo or apps or bloatware on the phone itself.
So, i'm stuck with a year old phone with a old-gen Android OS.
So...what's next please?

According to this, every KitKat with Sense 5.5 for One is out. But as I said, some carriers removed the update. Also, some carriers have already released Sense 6. I hope that we'll see direct update to Sense 6 in a month or two

I have explained many times that my phone is unlocked & SIM free albeit being Vodafone-branded.
So, it still doesn't answer my question: why no Android 4.4.2 for my phone?
I've read an article that One is getting Sense 6 update today! (for unlocked devices). My is branded to T-Mobile, but I hope that I'll get the update until the end of the month
Because the software is still modified slightly by Vodafone. You may have the phone network unlocked but it doesn't mean it's software unbranded. It's still up to Vodafone to update it. To be honest, this sounds more like a second hand handset instead, perhaps the original owner got it for free from an upgrade, unlocked it, and then sold it on as he was probably using another phone.
Vodafone customer support won't know anything, they're not taught anything technical, only the network side of things, which is why they can't answer you.
Honestly, you should just unlock and S-OFF the phone, and change it to a proper unbranded model if you want to get the latest updates from HTC.

But why should i get the phone unlocked as its already unlocked in the first place as i'm able to put an SIM on it?
And what do you mean by S-OFF? Is that term called "debranding?
When I mean unlock, I mean bootloader unlocking, which is different from network unlocking and allows you to flash other ROMs.
S-OFF allows you to change the CID, which is needed if you want to receive updates for another version of the HTC One, such as the unbranded version.
I have four years of owning and using an Android phone. Never been a developer or have IT skills or been into rooting phones. I consider myself somewhere above an intermediate user and under expert level.
So, it easy to unlock the bootloader and S-OFF my HTC One M7?
WIll it almost guarantee me i'll still be able to receive the Android 4.4.2 update and (perhaps) beyond?

I've rooted and s-off every phone, but few months after purchase, when I got bored with stock.
If you are doing this for the first time, even though you have good tutorials, it still won't be easy for you. I don't know anything about rooting M7 because I have it for a week, but it probably isn't so easy as it looks like, and it will take you few hours to do it (maybe days if you screw something).
If you unbrand your phone than yes, you will definitely be able to update to 4.4.2. But you need to know that if you do that, you will void your warranty for an almost new phone.
My recommendation: since I've seen that Sense 6 is already out for some carriers in US, it will probably be available in the Europe soon. So be patient and wait for a few weeks, and you'll probably receive direct update to 4.4.2 and Sense 6.

No, the last version is 4.4.3 and if you really need to update (there is no reason to do) first install a retail version firmware for your X model. (If there)

First, the person who answered you should have asked which device you are using (model number), and who your carrier is.
Second, the majority of us here don't recommend that you flash another carrier's firmware to your phone. Many things can go wrong, and if you ever revert back to the correct firmware, you have to use extreme caution to make sure you don't flash an OLDER firmware version to the phone, which can brick it!!! If you choose to flash a different firmware to your phone, do it at your own risk. You could end up with a paperweight.
Third, both the 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 updates are very MINOR updates. It isn't worth bricking just because you aren't patient, simply to (possibly) get another hour or two of battery life or a few small bug fixes.
I highly recommend that you simply be patient. Your carrier WILL release 4.4.4 eventually, and at that time you can simply take the over-the-air update assuming you haven't modified your /system or flashed custom recovery.
the update won't be noticeable to the users. it is bug fixes and a few tweaks. better to wait for 5.0 to come out

Slight correction... that is NOT the complete firmware list.
That site contains a copy of any SBF found or leaked... Sometimes it takes weeks after an OTA is pushed before a leaked SBF of that version is found and posted (think ATT 4.4.2)
They are "leaks" in the fact that they are not meant to be released to the public. As for how they "make it out" to end up on that site, well that is a different discussion that I don't want to get into.
That site is neither owned, operated, nor supported by Motorola.

also if you have had a locked phone PREVIOUSLY but unlocked it later, and you are using a carrier thats not the orginal one, I think that could also factor in as to why you are not getting updates. For example, if you had a moto x for ATT and you unlocked it to use for TMOBILE, you might have a delayed update or in some cases no update at all. Just my 2 cents.

It does not matter that your phone is unlocked. This is totally unrelated to receiving updates. Just FYI, NO ONE with a Moto X has received 4.4.4 yet (except MAYBE soak-testers). Only a handful of carriers are on 4.4.3.
The 4.4.3 upgrade was CANCELLED do to a bug being found, and instead, all the variants that hadn't released 4.4.3 are going to be upgraded STRAIGHT to 4.4.4 (skipping 4.4.3 entirely).
I don't think you understand just how much testing has to go into these upgrades before they are released.
Here is an EXCELLENT article that should explain it for you. The part you are interested in is called "The Big Hold-Up"

i have a moto x with bt unlocked. i've updated my moto x to 4.4.4 few weeks ago when i received the OTA.
i'd like to flash to stock rom back with rsd lite to have a complete factory reset, but the 4.4.4 stock rom german version isn't already available.. so can i flash the original firmware my moto had before the OTA (german retail 4.4.2) with rsd lite and then update it again to 4.4.4?
i'm not sure i can flash 4.4.2 over a 4.4.4...
thanks a lot!
Since you took the 4.4.4 OTA if you try to downgrade you will BRICK! There are warnings all over this forum.

Hello. You have the Moto X XT1052? If you have the Moto X XT1052 with the bootloader unlock you can downgrade from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2. Download the firmware 4.4.4 Verizon and extract the files motoboot.img and gpt.bin and copy them to the firmware 4.4.2 Retail.en.DE and flesh with RSDLite. At the end you will have the Moto X with firmware 4.4.2 Retail.en.DE

At the end you will have the Moto X with firmware 4.4.2 Retail.en.DE

My Moto X has no brick to move from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2 and then upgrade to 4.4.4 via OTA file.

I do not doubt you, but please do not encourage others to risk a brick, when a newer ota comes, for what is of little gain.

You are not given a forum where freedom of speech. You have tried as I did? I tried and it works. Just because I did the downgrade and not an important person of XDA does not mean it does not work. I do not care what you think the guide works. I'm not going to argue with people who express opinions without trying and consider themselves smarter and more prepared than others.
@solocchi
So you did it! But what did you gain? You are unlocked.
Please do this:
Make your own thread for your exact X variant & carrier. Warn others of the risks for other phones. Then "have at it!"

Opinions are one thing, but you are recommending downgrading to people, just because it worked for you. Which can, and has bricked many Moto X's. It's all over this section, threads and posts from members who tried and bricked. Some never could fix their devices.
I REALLY hope you understand that you simply got lucky. Great! But now since you got lucky, you are advising people to downgrade as tho its perfectly safe. My friend, that is incredibly irresponsible. And how will you feel when they come back to you and say their phone is bricked? Will you have it repaired for them?
I hope you get my point. You got lucky, as have some others.... But far more people, on XDA anyway, did not get lucky. Google "moto x bricked xda" to see the stories.
I hope you will reconsider advising people to downgrade, and just count yourself lucky and keep it to yourself. Again.... Unless you want to compensate the people who try and fail. ?

Guys, don't listen to solocchi - I think he wants people to brick their devices.
You want freedom of speech solocchi? You got it. But you had better not expect people to not disagree with you. We have freedom of speech too.
Hey guys: I put my phone in the microwave for 60 seconds, then under water for 5 minutes. Then I dropped it and stepped on it.
It still works fine and it's totally safe!! Now who wants to try??
LOL
Disclaimer: don't actually do this.
Now see what I did? I followed the rules by adding a disclaimer as required by XDA.
P. S. No, it's not freedom of speech here. This is a website, ran by people... People who make and enforce rules . Passing out dangerous or malicious advice can get people in trouble. Trust me. ?
Don't worry guys, with the factory reset I'm happy
Hey guys, android lollipop (5.0.1) just got released for the Note 4, N910G variant. It is currently being released via OTA for India, Bangladesh etc. If you do not receive the OTA just flash the Indian region stock rom and set it up, then search for updates and you will be updated to lollipop. I HIGHLY recommend that you wipe data/factory reset after the update as it was very laggy after the update, until I wiped data/factory reset.
Happy Flashing :victory:!

So you were able to get the OTA straight after flashing the latest KK Indian firmware from Sammobile? I flashed it in Odin about 6 hours ago and I keep checking for updates but there's nothing.

Yeah, I just flashed the latest KK (Indian Region) and straight after setup I went to check for updates and viola it said there was an update and so I went ahead and did it and successfully got to lollipop. Just wondering now if I can flash the N910F lollipop custom roms.
Just try again and search for an update. If an update is found it is usually stuck at "Searching for Update" for about 15-30 seconds.
Flash indian stock kk then do a factory reset and then boot set it up log in to samsung account and check for updates. I too flashed stock did not do a factory rest and straight away checked for updates recieved a msg you already have latest software updated something msg.

Thanks, I tried about 30 times today but nothing came through. I decided to do a factory reset while on the Indian KK firmware and after the setup went to check for updates and it was there straight away
its out on sammobile (dont want to post a link, apparently SM breaches XDA's rules)
expect some progress with custom roms and such very soon

I downloaded the full firmware but then got worried about CSC. I have unbranded, unlocked phone bought in Australia so don't want to install something more bloated. Can anyone who installed or someone from India explain if this firmware is for unbranded phones or from a specific carrier.

I flashed the TWRP version of MM from here to my Turbo, but lost Root. I've tried flashing SuperSU from TWRP's built-in prompt, as well as from here, but when I do that the phone sticks at the bootloader screen.
I'm currently up and running in MM, trying to reacquire Root using KingRoot from here, but after 15 or so attempts it can't seem to break past 60%.
Any suggestions? Why does flashing SuperSU make my phone freeze on boot?
I know on Computer Freeks MM rom we have to use SuperSU 2.62 which is SuperSU 2.62 you could try that??

Yeah, I told them in that thread that's what should be used, because we had experienced the same issue with the sibling XT1225 back in July. (Initially, CF's 6.01 ROM was based on Brazilian Marshmallow, but the same issue affects the Verizon Motorola Marshmallow, which he's now incorporated.) As a result, CF then put that specific version of SuperSu in his downloads folder. It works.
I've also written it up tons of times in various threads over here -- but except for CF's ROM, it's not in many op posts. So, here it is again.
On Motorola Marshmallow for Quark, for SuperSu you have to flash the Beta SuperSu 2.62. You can update later to newer version.
INITIAL ROOT ON QUARK MOTOROLA MARSHMALLOW 6.0.1
This same version of Marshmallow was released back in July for sibling Quark Moto XT1225. We found out then newer versions of SuperSu don't work for initial root. You need this older version first. No need to re-invent the wheel. It's the same device, same software.
_______________
Go ahead and download SuperSU from the attached file at bottom of this post. It's an older version of SuperSu but works well on the Quark Motorola Marshmallow ROM. This is the one we KNOW works! You can always update to newer version later.
BETA-SuperSU-v2.62-3-20151211162651
Attached to this bottom of this post or download from here:
https://download.chainfire.eu/751/SuperSU/
Flash this version initially. You can update to newer version later. (People had problems flashing the very newest SuperSu for initial root, but this version works good. Again, you can update to newer version later, after you gain root.)
_______
BONUS TIP - SuperSu Setting
After you reboot, go into SuperSu settings and UNcheck this box. Mount namespace separation.
Uncheck that. Disable that. Then, reboot.
If it's enabled it will conflict with Titanium Backup which you will use at some point, or should. And you will have no idea why Titanium Backup is saying you are out of space, when you are not -- but it's due to this setting in SuperSu!

Thank you. Sorry, I did previously do a cursory google search for the problem and didn't find such an answer saying not to use the newer version.
Apologies for being another who seemingly didn't pay attention, but the version you recommended worked.

To be frank, for a thread to have the title "Computerfreek274_MM_1.0.4 Verizon Stock Based MCG24.251-5 6.0.1 Stock VoLTE Root" is the opposite of helpful. A fairly layman title and small descriptive blurb does wonders for people who have very little experience in this area beyond the cursory effort it can take to unlock and root.
That is, I'm not illiterate by any stretch, but I'm also not a programmer and would have no idea what the hell that thread is on about from the title or the OP. About the only indication it might be of interest are the words "Marshmallow" and "Verizon Stock OTA" among all the other (to me) extraneous information.
I would not have visited that thread had you not linked to it, because there is no preliminary indication to me that it would be what I'm looking for.

I also wrote it up in various other Marshmallow threads like here and here and here, but I admit it's hard to find. It should be in the OP of some of those threads, but I'm not the creator. CF did take the advice and make it part of his ROM downloads.

the title has all the helpful information for what it was designed. it is not a help people with superSU problems thread, its a rom release thread (that includes the proper superSU to use in the OP).
but i do understand what you are trying to say, maybe you could make an appropriately titled thread with all the relevant info in it.
I added root instructions to my stock flashable zip thread. Hopefully that will clear some things up.

I thought about doing that myself but here's the issue. While I wrote such a guide for the XT1225 and XT1250 over in the other forum, to gain permanent root for any Quark (XT1254/XT1225/XT1250) you first must unlock your bootloader. On the XT1225/XT1250, that's easy -- just via a free code given via Motorola on request. On the Droid Turbo, that request is refused due to Verizon's insistence on a locked-down bootloader. Therefore my guide over there is only for the XT1225 and XT1250.
1) @TheSt33v has written an excellent guide over here on how to unlock your bootloader for the Droid Turbo XT1254 via Sunshine -- which right now is limited only to Lollipop SUTL-44 and SUTL-49. He also covers rooting in that guide. (My guide is based on his, but mine is updated for Motorola Marshmallow 6.0.1 -- with instructions SuperSu Beta SU 2.62 MUST be used, as we encountered this problem back in July 2016 when Motorola released Marshmallow for the XT1225. Plus in that guide, I clarified some things just based on my personal reading/writing style. I also added boot logos and boot animation. )
With his guide here on unlocking the bootloader, no other is needed. It covers everything that needs to be covered from the XT1254 Droid Turbo perspective, if you want to unlock your bootloader and root. (Again, unlocking the bootloader on the XT1254 can only be done on two specific versions of Lollipop, via paid Sunshine app.)
2) This Marshmallow rooting problem for the XT1254 is ONLY for people who have first unlocked their bootloaders on Lollipop (see #1) and are now upgrading to either stock Marshmallow Verizon firmware via OTA or installing a Marshmallow ROM based on stock Motorola firmware via TWRP. (Any other Marshmallow custom ROMs or even Nougat custom ROMs, i.e. CM-based, like [ROM][All Quark][6.x.x]Resurrection Remix which I'm currently using or [ROM][All Quark][7.x]Resurrection Remix do not have that "rooting" issue.)
This rooting problem is only for a subset of overall Droid Turbo users, not for everyone who has updated to Marshmallow. (That subset being those who first unlocked their bootloaders and are now on stock Motorola Marshmallow or a ROM based on stock Motorola Marshmallow.)
Therefore, just a thread on "rooting" over here in the XT1254 forum would not be useful. People would be confused and think they could root without first unlocking their bootloaders! And especially on Marshmallow 6.0.1, with the XT1254 Droid Turbo if you didn't FIRST unlock your bootloader on Lollipop, you are out of luck! (With XT1225 and XT1250 that's not a concern.)

In my writing style, I would have noted the version number (SuperSu beta 2.62) in that sentence just to clarity it is indeed an older, very specific version necessary for rooting? But that's just me. In one of the other threads where I wrote this up, someone else then correctly referenced it several pages later, and then some other guy asked him, "Why are you using that older version from 2015? Use this instead!" with link to current SuperSu -- which was EXACTLY THE PROBLEM! I had to reply to him and tell him "Because the newer versions do NOT work. THIS works!" He had not read my original post, only the reference to it and SuperSu beta 2.62 and had no idea of the Motorola Marshmallow problem.
My point is, sometimes in OP posts I find it helpful (at least for me) if certain very important information is literally in my face, bolded, maybe even colored red.
And also hopefully THIS THREAD will stay near the top of the Q&A section for a while, to help people.
For me is important unlocked bootloader because is easy to install another Roms or Stock Roms..
If you have unlocked bootloader you have totally control of your Turbo

YES! With unlocked bootloader and root, you own/control your phone -- not the carrier or the manufacturer.
In my hard won experience, you NEVER, NEVER take an OTA straight from your phone. You let others suffer any consequences, and you later install it manually after it is fixed/uploaded to XDA forum. There will be several copies available in many places and even tweaked, debloated ROMs based on any OTA.
But the first thing you do when you buy a new phone is unlock it and root. (Do NOT let it update to newest software! You can do that later AFTER you've rooted.) After that you control the phone, no other person or company controls your phone. A friend of mine didn't know this and bought a Moto X. She first turned it on and updated to latest software, THEN gave me the phone to root, install stuff. I looked at it and said, "There's nothing I can do." IF she had given it to me new, out of the box with the older software, I could have worked my magic. She updated to the newest firmware which closed all the exploits.
NEVER, NEVER take an OTA straight from your phone.
That's right.
I had a big problem lol because one day decided back Lollipop to KitKat after downgrade my Motorola dead ..
Was difficult for me .
First should unlocked bootloader.
And the end my problem was solved..
