[Q] Iphone Headset not working with nokia lumia phones - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I have read lots threads regarding the problem that Iphone headsets are not working with other smartphones but most of the post are for android phones. I started this thread to get help specifically for Lumia users.
I reserched a lot about it and found the root cause of it. Its mainly coz of the different TRRS configuration of the pin out of apple headsets. some threads also says that apple uses different resistance for trigerring signals other controls like volume and prev/next track.
I have already bought a headset which compatible with Iphone,so I wish if somebody can guide me to manually construct an adapter which make this headset's mic and all the control or may be few control compatible to my Lumia 720.
your views and ideas are highly appreciated.. thanks in advance..

I can't help you building that adapter and I have never heard about an adapter for sale, but I have a question: how much it costs your headset? If it's "cheap" I think it's better buy a new one (compatible with galaxy sX like I did for example)

Yeah, the idea of somebody paying the Apple tax for something that doesn't work on industry standard devices is... weird. Can you just return the iPhone headset? Every other single-plug 3.5mm headset-supporting device (Lumias included) uses the standard interface; iThings are the only devices that don't.

I m using sound magic E10M, its not very costly, I paid around $40 for it. I also thought of returning it but the sound quality is really good and I dont think I will find such a sound quality for a decent price like this.... so I was trying if I could get the full benefit from this headset.. n also I wanna find an ultimate solution for people facing this problem.

Recommendations for Headphones?

My headphone adapter for my MT3G recently stopped working, so I'm going to buy a new one soon, but I figured I might as well get a new set of headphones as well. Would you guys know of any good quality headphones? I'm interested in in-ear bud headphones with a built in mic. Also, would you guys know where I can buy the MT3G 3.5mm adapter? I found one on Amazon, but it's requiring me to buy the headphones with it.
Also a white pair of headphones and adapter is what I'm looking for, since I want it to match my MT3G color
Thanks in advance.
What sort of budget are you looking at? More and more highend in ear monitors (IEMs) are coming out with inline mic versions.
I don't really have a limit on price as of now, but if you know of one of equal quality, as the ones that came with the MyTouch 3G, or better. Send a link my way

Alittle pricey but companies tend to charge a premium for models with inline mics. You know, because of iPhone users...:-/
There are cheaper from Ultimate Ears too. Shure also offers a couple of models with inline mics.
Lol, that's a "little pricey"? I guess I can set my budget at about $40 then. If I can't find another I'll probably have to buy the ones that come with the MT3G.
Heh... Thats why I asked if you had a budget.

These aren't half bad, their actual price are $39.90 (you have to add to cart to see the real price). These are on the way out as a new model just came out which is why they are fairly cheap.
Lol I didn't think headphones would cast that much, except for ones built for reasons other than usage on the bus. I might get that last one you showed me, it looks promising for sound and all that, but I don't know if I want something that will break in a few months thanks for the help though
bluetooth
Motorola S9HD. Had a pair (until my daughter broke them). Used everyday for work/gym/home. Music and phone calls. $99 @ Best Buy.

[Q] Headphones / Inline volume control / call control

Looking to get some Klipsch Image S4 Headphones to compliment my HTC HD7.
The only problem with buying generic 3.5mm earbuds, is of course I lose the call and volume controls which come with the stock earbuds.
So: I want to get a externsion cable with the volume/call contrl buttons, so I can plug my headphones into that cable, and then that cable into the phone.
Anyone seen a product like this?

Their called Mic Adapter's, so go research, google, or ebay "mic adapter" and pick one you like, hope this helps.
To keep the stock feel of my headset, I just bought a small 3.5mm female connector. Then I opened the headsets remote (it is very easy: just pull the buttons up).
There is a little board inside. I removed the cables of the original earbuds and soldered the female connector with fine cable to it. But before trying this, one needs to make sure, that the soldering equipment you have is fine enough because the soldering points are VERY small.
Now I can use any earbud I want, without losing any of the look or functionality the original equipment offered.
The price was approximately 1 Euro + the new headphones.
Replacement headphones
Hi all,
I think my question is simpler. I can't get along with the HTC headphones when I am out running - my ears are a funny shape I guess, so I want to get some earphones with ear hooks. BUT, I really want to keep the microphone and volume controls. Can anyone explain what I should look for. I tried some Philips ones, for iPhone, and they did not adjust volume.
Thanks in advance if anyone could shed some light on this!

I believe the HS-930i or HS-730i are what you're looking for, they don't have any hooks, though.
Thanks Dorian, this is very helpful. I note that the ones you have picked out are specifically for iPhone - am I right in thinking that headphones that provide all functionality for iPhone will also provide all functionality for HTC HD7 as well?

No, I bought Seinheisser Headphones with Mic, it was compatible with the iphone therefore thought the same, paid £65 for these, found out on my return from holiday that they did not work with the HTC Trophy! Everything works bar the Mic! It works very well with my sister in laws iphone!
Hence why I am now trawling the xda forum looking for something that is gauranteed to work! Not willing to spend anymore money on anything else!
I hope this helps,
Will
Thanks Will - that was exactly my concern... you spend a lot of money and they still don't work! And of course shops aren't keen on you putting the earphones in your ear to check! The lack of responses to this suggests to me that, at the moment, there isn't a solution.
Unless someone knows differently...
Solution found?
I contacted HTC directly today (perhaps should have done this first!) and had a very helpful conversation with Mohammed in their support centre.
He pointed me at the Dixons site, which shows lots of accessories, together with product compatibility. This was very helpful.
I have just ordered some Nokia WH-800 earphones from Amazon for 18 GBP plus postage. I think they will do what I require.
I also loved the look of "PowerBeats Sport Headphones red with Control Talk" and I may ultimately go for those, although the price of 120 GBP is a little steep for me.
Anyway, I think I have found a solution!
Was hoping for a replacement set also - I must have odd ears as the htc standards (although sounding good) just don't stay put. I need those inner ear bud things or a full on over head set.
Andyspr - can you let us know if they work for you? Those over ear clips would sort me out!!

[Q] Decent Headset for HD7

I am currently using some headphones from my Sony Walkman which are really good quality. Obviously, they don't do the call features. The included headset for the HD7 are obviously crap.
What would you recommend for me for the HD7 to:
* restrict noise leakage (I find the buds are best for this)
* make/accept calls
I notice Sennheiser do iPhone kit. The HD7 is obviously pretty new and will not likely get the attention from the better headphone makers. What's the compatibility like between smartphones? Are iPhone/other phone headsets compatible?
I would prefer wired, but if Bluetooth provides the better functionality/sound then I'll consider those.
Thanks.
I use Plantronics Voyager Pro Plus. It's a BT headset and one of the best I have used. You can get the one without the plus for a lower price.
The plus is A2DP enabled. I got a good deal on Amazon.com during the holidays.
I would definitely recommend this BT Headset. Very comfortable and very functional.

Thanks. Although I should have made it clear I need this for music, so it needs to be stereo.
I personally use two headphones, though I'm not too sure this would suit your needs, I either carry a pair of earbuds or my Bose headphones, and then a Blueant Q2 for talk... I know it could be a pain... Also, try using the sound enhancer app from HTC
Thank you all.
In the end, I think these are probably my best bet. They supposedly work on Android, so similar may get similar operation on WP7?
Sennheiser MM 70i Headset with Smart Remote and Mic to Control iPhone
There was a link here to the product.
Because of your forum rules, I cannot post the link to the earphones. Apparently after 8 posts I can do, so maybe i should create 5 or more posts with pointless content in just so I can paste a link? This helps nobody.
Any experience with these?
Plantronics 903 Backbeat! Love it. I use it at work to listen to stuff on my pc and phone connected to take calls or listen to music on my phone while I'm out of the office. Sounds really good and the most comfortable set of bluetooth STEREO headphones I've used.

Thanks for your help. I've taken a punt based on your response and some fairly positive reviews. My only worry is the sound quality, but let's see. I'll be sure to let you know!
I am also in the same boat as you guys. The headphones with HD7 are bad, so I am turning to SE for help.
Here is what I might buy:
1. SE HPM 88
2. MH 710
3. MH 700 OR
4. HPM 77
In India, we don't get the ones with the mic. We only get headphones. I SO SO REGRET GIVING AWAY My X1 heaphones... DAYUM!!! WISH I COULD turn back time.
I bought the Plantronics set and am quite impressed. Have some sound quality/comfort issues but other than that, a great set.
I was asked to blog about it by a local TelCo:

Still looking for the RIGHT ones...

[Q] Stock headset

Okay, so i was out the other day and relised i had lost my original headphones while i was out. I use headphones daily and couldn't live without them.
Question is does anyone stock the original Samsung Headset with the PTT(push to talk) button on it? or maybe another manufacturer that works with the Ace.
Preferably I'm looking for standard rather than the in-ear pair.
Thanks in advance!
I've tested it with an original headset from LG (LG optimus one). And worked!
Maybe you should try buy a new one and test it before you actually buy it.
the pinout of samsung's stock headset is universal, you may use it on iPod, HP 4-pole audio+mic jack and in others, but not on nokia. nokia headsets follow a different pinout pattern, swapping ground to mic+shield. well, I did successfully converted a nokia headset to a universal one.
wait, I was lost there, but still, samsung's 3.5mm jack is universal. only nokia is an exception. hehehe. you may use any headset except for old iPod headsets and nokia headsets. iPod 4, iPhone 4 and newest ipods have the universal jack pinout configuration that shares with almost all of handsets.
Thanks for the replies guys. Done a bit of digging around and found a user on eBay selling original headsets for £3
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
I tried my old Sony Ericsson headset and the sound was so distorted. It was like the speakers were rattleing although the sound was so quiet...
anyways, as mentioned before, i've found a set on ebay and a reasonably good price of £2.20
Not sure if i'm allowed to link to ebay pages but here goes...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280795430244?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619
If I had a pound for every time i saw something sold as genuine on Ebay
We'll see what happens when they come, if they function properly ect... then at the end of the day i'm not fussed
Just got the set through this morning... Seems like stock, build quality is as good as my original, sounds is ok. and the button functions. So £2.20 well spent...
Thanks for your help guys

Earphones/Headset [iPhones Compatible?]

For years now I have been driven to frustration at the large number of iPhone compatible accessories. iPhones didnt share the same spec on headests as other manufacturers being one of the main issues which severly limited me on purchasing headphones especially as my mobile phone is my primary poersonal music device.
Last night I conducted my first phone call but I was using my old ARC S headset as I had not got around to unpacking the T one. I noticed that this didnt work and give a similar response to how an iPhone compaitble headset would work in my ARC S. Does this mean that I finally have a device which I can use the compaitble with iPhone headest with therefore massivley opening my options?

I have never tried any iPhone compatbile headsets.
The headset from a nokia n900 used to work fine on the Arc S and when I tried them on the T, they gave a messy sound. So i guess the specs have changed. :s

Yes the specs have changed. The new NXT handsets (T, S, U, V, P etc) use the same spec as the iPhone. It's a step in the right direction (I guess).
I had an Arc S and bought from Sony XBA-1IP (the iPhone model) headsets and unfortunately the phone did not recognize the accessory at all. I was blown away like..how come a new generation of headphones wouldn't work at all (not to mention the inline remote) with a Sony phone? So this is for you to make an idea that it is possible not to work either on these phones if the accessories are made for iPhone, not even from Sony.
Apple changed the connector layout again on the newest model. iPhone accessories are not cross compatible either from previous devices.
Apple is the sucker, not Sony. Sony adheres to the standard, although they did change from the previously used standard to the other one (theres two) with the newest line of phones. AFAIK only Samsung and Nokia are still on that other standard, all other major players have done the switch already.
It only affects additional functionality to headphones, such as call answering and volume control buttons. Audio routing is the same on all standards and even on Apple devices.
