HTC One M7 S-OFF (Fault USB) - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
Looks like I've got the faulty USB not charging, connection problems, car mode, usb host mode and whatever other funny things that happen so it is warranty time for me.
Seeing as I am unable to connect the phone to the PC via USB (it starts up and stops, disconnects, etc) I cannot do the S-OFF to remove tampered and unlocked flags. What's funny is that it stays connected via fastboot mode.
Is there another way to do this? I've looked at the WIFI ADB but firewater would not work.
It needs to be restored to an AUS CID TELST001, which is firmware number x.x.841.x... there are no RUU's that I can find.
Thanks.
MP

I should note that it has already once been S-OFFed... is there a command I can enter to reinstate it instead?
S-ON was done by "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3"

If you can not get the USB connection to work, then there is not much you can do. Since, you went back to S-ON there isn't any way to change the TAMPERED tag or back to LOCK without S-OFF! You might be able to find someone to force S-OFF using java card but I'm not sure they will be able to perform the procedure without a working USB port. Sorry!

Try another usb cable..it solved my problem though..

Try with SunShine new s-off method. Works like an apk without cables. But it's 25$.

Even if you Soff, still need that USB port working for rest of stuff, no?

No I managed to remove tampered and unlocked using wifi adb. But I needed to remove root so unlocked it again without thinking and the tampered flag came back.
Doesn't matter now though... Took it in to telstra shop, took one look at it and said no due to physical damage. It was dropped 6 months ago but it didn't affect anything. They will do anything to get out of it, even though it seems to be a defect (assistant told me he also had the usb problem).
I've taken it to a phone repair shop and should get it back tomorrow.

[Q] - How to remove everything to make it look genuine (repair)

Hi guys
I just contacted HTC to send in my device to repair my battery (my battery life is terrible).
They said that they could refuse to repair my device if they detect some illegal software and stuff (root and custom ROM I guess).
What do they exactly mean by "illegal software"?
How can I can "clean" my device so I looks like it is an untouched one?
ATM, I have rooted my device and flashed a ROM (but I returned to the old one via a backup).
Thanks
Matt
If you're S-OFF, you can easily flash an earlier RUU to return to stock, and then use revone to gain S-ON. In that way you will have a completely "clean" phone.
If you're S-ON With Hboot 1.54 you're stuck until revone finds an exploit, unfortunately.

I just checked and I'm S-ON.
So I think I'll just have to factory reset my deivce and hope for the best, right?
Which Hboot version do you have? You'll find the version nr. in bootloader. Either 1.44 or 1.54..
It's 1.44.0000
You're Lucky.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582
Just follow the directions in this thread to get S-OFF, and then you can flash an older original RUU for your device before you set your device back to S-ON with a clean bootloader and stock os.
Awesome!
Thanks, I really appreciate it
No problem
To bad I'm in the same situation but with hboot 1.54 and an almost broken wifi-antenna.
Ow, that's stupid.
I hope I'll do everything right to remove the root, those instructions seem kinda complicated and hard
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Yep, those are pretty hard. But if you look around in the forum you will find some guides on how to do it. Look at mike1986's going back to stock-thread for an example.
Allright, great!
I'll definitely look into that.
I have a few more days before the come picking up my device.
Hopefully things will be unrooted by then

Good Luck
I haven't really started yet and the first problem rises.
Following this thread (like you suggested, method 2)
---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
Apparently I need to find the RUU for my device, but I'm not sure if I'm choosing the right one.
Here's a collection of the RUU's for the HTC One, but my version isn't listed (I guess).
--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39588860
My radio is 4D.14.3250.26 and the only files for the International version (Europe) are starting with 4A.
So I guess those won't work for me.
Am I right or did I do something wrong?
You'll also need to change the bootloader to locked instead of relocked and also remove the tampered flag if you want to be safe because that's two sure fire ways of them knowing you've done some fiddling lol
I've found a way to get S-off on my phone.
After that, I've changed the flags from unlocked to locked (so not relocked) and removed the tampered flag.
Next, I'm gonna return to S-on and reset everything using the option in the settings menu.
My device will still be rooted, but it will be harder to see for them, I hope.
Right?

Repair
I actually just got my phone back from HTC after they repaired it. I sent it in with it being rooted and having the bootloader unlocker. They didn't bat an eye. They replaced the battery for free and sent it back
So apparently you have to be lucky if they will repair it or not.
My device will be send to some place in the Netherlands, I really hope they will be good to me

when you unlock your HTC phone over the Internet your IMEI and SN will be listed in their database as (NOT Original)
most of the times repair people will look at the "TAMPERED" text in Hboot, and they will because its hard to remove, if you will take it to repair
make sure you are running %100 stock with the phone NON Root and NO TAMPERED text

Well, I've managed to remove the "TAMPERED" text and change the other text to "LOCKED", but my phone is still rooted.
To unroot it I need the correct RUU (according to my research), but I'm unable to find the right one for my device.
So I guess I'm screwed?

[Q] Stuck on bootloader - Tampered, locked, security warning

So I was trying to restore my HTC one back to normal stocks, with both tampered gone and for it to say Locked again. I haven't used the phone in a few months (switched to a Nexus 5). All I had done with it was unlock the bootloader, install TWRP, and use some random ROMs, with the last one on there being a pretty old version of the Insert Coin Rom, which was based on one of the leaked 4.2.2 OTAs prior to its release.
So what I had read that I needed to do was use revone to get S-OFF. At first I was having issues, repeatedly getting error code = -1. I was able to do the " ./revone -P " command, which would say success and then waiting for device reboot. After this, when trying to run any command I would get that error code. Somehow I got it to work, but on the wrong command (at least I think): " ./revone -l " which then relocked my bootloader. From my limited knowledge, I believe that you need to be complete stock so that it will work. Well as I said, I'm not, so I now have "security warning" with both S-On and the bootloader being Locked (not relocked) and Tampered.
I can't get fastboot to detect the phone, nor does an RUU detect it. I'm just stuck in the bootloader.
I'm on hboot 1.44 and got the phone around June I believe although I'm not sure. It's an AT&T variant, so perhaps I had a patched hboot?
Anyways, any help is much appreciated!

did you ever figure this one out? I am stuck here

HTC ONE m7-ul HELP s-on stuck at Bootloader RUU fail

I'm kinda in a bad situation here.
I am very familiar with adb, fastboot, flashing and all that jazz but ran into a problem here:
I was trying to return back to stock rom and locked device to return it for warranty (bad top speaker and mic) and in the process I re-locked the bootloader and switched the s-off to s-on.
But when I went to flash the RUU via fastboot I kept getting a error message of signature failure.
Then after trying more RUU's that were most similar to my device I still was getting the same error.
I then tried an .exe RUU but kept getting errors during the process.
If I reboot it, it just returns to the bootloader and recovery goes to the bootloader as well.
Here are some pics:

post a fastboot getvar all (excluding IMEI and s/n)
ruu.zip are usually already decrypted, so would fail the signature check.

my bad didn't see the screenshots, I always prefer copy/paste
RUU.EXE for you is on androidruu.com or htc1guru.com
androidruu.com RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_TELUS_WWE_4.19.661.8
or
htc1guru.com RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_TELUS_WWE_4.19.661.8
this will upgrade you to 4.19.661.8 and since you are already S-ON, only use this if:
1- no TAMPERED
2- LOCKED not RELOCKED
.
My bootloader screen shows:
TAMPERED
RELOCKED
SECURITY WARNING
will this RUU still work?

it may get rid of tampered and security warning, but it will DEFINITELY NOT get you LOCKED, which is usually needed for warranty!!
time to unlock, get S-Off again, and follow the guide properly.
So will it install without error and get me stock ROM for now?
Cause after that, I can get S-OFF later, I'm just desperate for something to run now.

don't know what error 158 is... but the ruu should work fine; possibly USB3 problems??
HOWEVER, I highly recommend you get S-Off before upgrading to 4.4 !! (because there is a possibility S-Off won't work!!)
so unlock, s-off, then install any ROM, until you have time to do this properly!
how can I even get s-off again without a rom even installed ?

Win7 + USB2 port should be okay.... but this guy also had a problem with the ruu

and even though it was a USB2 port, the "internal" usb hub showed as a "USB3 hub", a different PC, and it worked.

Stuck in bootloader, please help!

hi everyone,
I'm new here but right now I'm at my wits end here...
Backstory: I rooted my One and installed a ROM on it. However, a problem with the mic suddenly cropped up. Calling has been a pain and people say that they can hardly hear me. Speakerphone, however, works but it's annoying and inconvenient if I turn on my speakers every single time.
I decided to contact HTC again and asked for a replacement. I told them that there is something wrong with the mic of the phone. They were able to placed an on-site replacement. However, after 2 days, they sent me back an email saying that the problem lies "outside of the warranty" and the charge to get it back to working condition is $200. I thought it was ridiculous so I googled around and most on xda forums said that it is a hardware problem not a software one so I figured it's not a ROM problem.
So yesterday, when I got the phone back, it is unrepaired and worse, the volume buttons do not work at all...I am reluctant to send my phone back to HTC again because I know they will say that it is "out of warranty".
Stupid as I was, I tried to relock my One and S-On it again in order so that I can send my One back to HTC.
However, my One is stuck in bootloader mode.
On the top it says "Tampered", "LOCKED", and "Security Warning"
The HBOOT is 1.56 and it is S-ON.
The thing is, the volume buttons DO NOT work so I can't get into recovery mode using the normal method.
I can still use fastboot commands but the fastboot reboot command always send me back into the bootloader mode which is annoying. Because I can't get into recovery mode I can't use adb commands. So now, I think my phone is softbricked.
Would anyone be so kind and guide me through this? If anyone could help me I would be forever grateful.

Really bad idea to S-ON on hboot 1.56. S-ON must be done on hboot 1.44 or 1.54 otherwise tampered flag will come back. + its really hard to s-off on hboot 1.56 and in some case its not possible. So you'll have to S-off and downgrade then remove the tampered flag, lock bootloader and s-on (hboot 1.44-1.54 only).
To boot in recovery you can use adb reboot recovery from the OS. if you can't boot inside the OS, I think you are stuck.

I know My phone was S-Off at the beginning of the "re-locking" process but as I followed the guides on Youtube, it had to be S-On and Locked again. I know it's a stupid move from my part
I can't do any adb commands because I'm stuck in the bootloader. adb devices returns no devices so i can't reboot into recovery.
Is there any fastboot command that will boot into recovery?
Which sucks the most is that the volume buttons do not work at all so yeah I'm pretty hopeless right now unless someone can miraculously come up with something to help
As of right now yes I'm hopelessly staring at the white screen on my phone...

[Q] How to get back S-ON without fastboot usb :)

Hello,
First of all sorry in advance for my bad english
It's first time i post in xda for asking help.
Actual state of my phone :
- charge only when is power off
- when power on, no usb connectivity at all
This issue for usb connectivity appears one day without a logical reason, after some messages like "your phone is running in usb host mode and can't charge etc.." , "your phone charger is not original .." (despite he is)
Of course i have already test in furthers pc and usb cables, already clean the usb connector, already test the stuff like push power + vol up + vol down during 2 mins in front of bright light for reset the battery... My other phone an HOX is running well in usb with the same cable and pc (mtp, adb, fastboot..) so this not the way to solve my issue. I think it's a material issue on the mainboard or the usb connector.
So i've decided to get back my HTC One to repair center but for warranty i manage to get it back to completely stock of course.
So, i set it S-OFF with revone (initial hboot 1.44 inside, very good tool for this hboot works like a charm), for delete "tampered" and set "locked" instead of "relocked" in bootloader.
After that, i have make all the updates and now i am on stock branded rom SFR (vodafone in France) up to date with original recovery and 1.57 hboot.
But i am still S-OFF and can't return the phone for warranty like that
So, somebody here have a great idea to get S-ON without fastboot usb who isn't working anymore on my device ??
I have one idea but really complicated : make an update.zip for downgrade the hboot to 1.44 with the original recovery + root (SU+binaries) with that i could try to use an old version of revone (0.2) which permit to use ./revone -s 3 as fastboot oem wirtesecureflag 3
And i don't know if i can do that with original recovery... but my S-OFF could perhaps help me in my bad situation i hope
Thansk in advance for all your ideas to help me to get back S-ON

I could not find a way to go S-ON without fastboot except revone. You could just take the chance that with it "Locked" and no "Tampered" banner they may not care if it is S-OFF. IMO, it would be the safer route than attempting something that might brick the phone in the wrong configuration.

Thansk in advance for all your ideas to help me to get back S-ON

You should have gone back to s-on before updating the software. If you go back to s-on now you risk the tampered flag returning. You need to set back to s-on before hboot 1.55 to avoid this.
I think your best option as @majmoz suggests is to send it as is with s-off. There more likely to ignore the fact that it's a-off than if its s-on with tampered. :good:

Thank you majmoz and danny201281 for your advices.
I know that i should use revone when i was under 1.44 hboot.. but now it's too late
I think i will try to send to warranty like that, i share your opinion it's less risky like that than with tampered and relocked ! So i will no more try to get S-ON with fastboot, if it's for have the tampered flag that will be worst
And HTC must have furthers returns for HTC ONE with the same issue like mine (i google it and many peoples have the no usb connectivity issue in average 1 year after purchase it's strange..)
Next one will be a Samsung phone, sorryt HTC
I will comme back for getting news about warranty and S-OFF of course, if it can help some others.
