How can you disable the messenger app and just use Facebook for messages. For instance iPhone has a mod that you can install to disable the need to download Facebook messenger. How would we do that on android.
Facebook has removed the message feature from its native app, and now requires you to use its messenger app. Maybe you can restore an older backed up version of Facebook?

Seriously?!?!?! One Facebook app is already more than enough. There's no way I'm installing their stupid messaging app.
I sure hope they don't get rid of notifications for tags, wall posts, etc. I want to know if someone tags me in a picture that I don't approve of or posts useless crap on my wall....
Yeah i feel the same way. I saw on the iPhone in Cydia that there was mod to bypass that to have messenger and I thought maybe we could have one or there is one out there for android bc you know android is so much better.
Old .apks of Facebook still have messages..that's how I'm getting around it atm.

Help please.. I was told that my phone has been sending sms messages to my friends on my contacts list. Without me knowing it, of course. What causes this? Any help would be appreciated.
You have obviously installed some app that has permissions to do this. Go though the most recent installs, and uninstall any that have the rights to send messages and see contact information.
Look at the sms's sent and see if there is any clue there, too.
ok thanks for the quick reply.. But how about some apps, that came already installed on the phone, I cant remove them.. Also some social apps, like the facebook and yahoo messenger.. They have this permissions, is there any way to unable the said permission? thanks!
Preinstalled apps won't do this.. Neither will facebook or Yahoo Messenger.
ok.. because those pre-installed one's also has reminders like those. So its safe for mo to re-install fb and ym?
its safe to install fb yahoo .
What are the contents of these SMS? Is it like a butt dial SMS or are your friends getting strange advertisements and links?
Sounds like malware.
uhm, they were receiving txt messages that I have already previously sent them. I mean older ones..
anyone? who has the same problem?

Yes, I had this. For some reason the texts were marked as unsent, probably because I have bad cell coverage at home. On a reboot they were all resent, regardless of if they had been sent.
I started using GO SMS and I have not had the problem. I also updated my kernel, but I cannot imagine that was the issue.
I also rooted the phone and killed off the bloatware. Perhaps it was the social hub, which I have now disabled.
could it be the "sms popup" that i installed? I installed it for me to be able to reply much easier to person texting em. Its like a pop up where you can already see the message and reply at once..
I looked at the GO SMS, I saw that it also has a reminder that it allows the phone to send text messages on its own.
Whats the best messga widget do you guys use? Thanks!

Not impossible. I think I did use that to, but the GO SMS has a popup of its own which seems better.
There is also a GO SMS widget that works quite well, I find. I prefer the popup and an unread message count shortcut.

Hey,
Facebook app on WP sucks. Can someone make a proper messenger app with geolocation, support for read receipts etc? Something like iPhone and Android have. I'm sikc and tiered of this current app that wastes space and looks uggly. Push notifactions that work would be also a bonus.
Just an idea. If wished, I would not mind a proper facebook app in genreal aswell but I can handle the lack of that, if messenger app would exist.

Yeah, but "who cares" for chat, we just want an messenger app that iOS and Android have. I really, really miss that feature on my 8X, not only that push notifications does not work, but also, we are not able to send or receive any file/picture via it !

Push Notification does work.... I am not missing any fb chat message however it's lagging couple of seconds.
Microsoft is not a copycat. They are trying to be original and bring something new to the end users.
Everything has to be intergrated in the people hub. Whatsapp is an exception since it uses your phone number to communicate with the other party; so is Tango.
Keep in mind that WP8 was meant to be compatible with Windows 8 where all your contacts are now integrated into your live messenger.
well the facebook app does not always work. most of the time its fine.. but sometimes its just a pain. messages send online are not displayed.
sometimes messages are not displayed at all. some contact i can write messages to and they dont receive all of them..i evne have contact that dont receive any of my messages.
its supposed to support on and offline fb messages.. not sure if that works correctly

If your contact is offline they wont get messages. In all other scenarios, they do receive your messages.
A dedicated Facebook Messenger app is needed because
1. the built in Facebook Chat lacks several important features (most importantly group messages) and is unreliable. Also doesn't show previous messages that weren't sent using the built in chat.
2. the normal Facebook app has several issues when it comes to messages, including annoying error popups and no notificaitions.
There is an app called FIM, I haven't tried it yet.
I'm trying to get toast notifications for when I get a facebook message but even though it's enabled in the settings, I still don't get them (this is all when I'm not online on the messaging hub). Anyone else seen this problem before?
If u r not online, how do u expect to get messages?
If u mean u do not get messages, just because u r not IN the hub, then I would have no other idea what might be the problem.
basically for me Facebook chat has been broken for several weeks now. I started on Windows Phone 7.8 and it still happens on Windows Phone 8. I can not get Facebook to reliably deliver me messages to my phone, neither via the messaging hub nor via the facebook app
It's really annoying, I can not get it to work properly.

I'm talking about the official Facebook application. There's an option for Toast notifications for FB Messages but it doesn't work, all the other toast notifications for that app work though.
Sorry, I do not use crappy apps, especially when every basic thing can be done via the Me, or People Hub. So I find the existence of Twitter, FB and these kinda apps redundant. Why the hell would u install things u already have implemented in the OS?
But that is just my opinion...
Sorry, that I cannot help any more.

Do you have an alternate solution to Facebook messages aside from being online on the messaging 24/7?
Negative. Since everything I need from FB is embedded in the system I am in no need of such apps. And any other app that has features that are already a part of the OS itself.
Just two simple questions:
Why there is not Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone? Android has it, iphone has it and even Black Berry. Why Windows doesn't?
Why all Facebook apps have serious problems catching and showing notifications? The only one that atm works well is JTD for Facebook, and so I suppose is it possible to make it working.
Am I missing something?
First of all, Facebook messaging is built into the OS. You don't need a separate app at all.
Second, there is a Facebook IM/Chat app ("fim chat"), at least on WP7. I admit that I don't see it in the WP8 store yet.
Third, there are a number of other apps (IM+ being probably the most popular) that implement Facebook messaging.

Hi!
thank you for your answer!
The built in Facebook messaging system works really bad: (correct me if I' m not right) it works only if you decide to stay online (so offline msg doesnt work properly) and it doesn't work in receving messages from people that are not in your friend list
The same happens for IM+, you can't chat while you are offline and neither you can chat with people not in your friend list.
For these things I asked "why?"
I' m really interested in knowing if there is something that I missing (like maybe something that afflict Facebook chat that makes it difficult in being developed in third part apps)
I really like wp 8, it has great potential and stuff but it's hard for me to figure out why it misses some must-working apps
FB Chat in IM+ is, I believe, just implemented using Jabber/XMPP (I think that's the underlying transport of FB IMs, at least). Support for receiving offline messages (which I believe Fim has) probably requires deeper integration with the service. Mind you, I see no reason to sign out of FB on the phone, and you can get messages even when the app isn't running (IM+ push notifications work fine for me, though the app in general is a bit slow and clunky).
My biggest issue with any of the facebook apps, is that there is always an issue where notifications never come in promptly when I have my status set to appear offline. On the os end, the closest I can get while being able to see friends online is having it set to Away.
I'm looking for a Windows Phone 8 Facebook app that will allow me to view and send photos in the chat window - Does such an app even exist
And I don't want one that just sends a link to a photo for someone to click on
I've seen some threads asking about the google messages apk. but my question is:
My s21 ultra came with google messages by default as SMS app, I also have the Samsung messages app installed (I set it as default instead of the google messages app).
Is there a reason for the google messages app to have come as default? Are there any advantages to it?
p.s. I didn't really find the exact answer around the forum, if there is such answer, can you please point me to it and close this thread?
Regards

I like google messages mainly for the good integration of RCS and also because it has a web app. The UI is fine, darkmode is cool, so if I had to choose I'd go for Google.
Now on why it's google messages by default, I have no clue...
Personally, I like Google Messages, but Samsung Messages now has RCS too I believe. It just got it recently. But from what I've seen and used, Google Messages is probably the way to go. It's just a better experience overall. It can verify business senders, help you report spam messages, and also just a couple of different things that are convenient, like what Raiz mentioned above. I'd go back to Google if you want something that works better overall.
Thanks mates!
Will switch back to Google/Android Messages and test it out a bit more
I use Messages, the only AT&T bloatware app I use.
Edit, it's Samsung not AT&T
Here I am still using Textra lol
Google messages far superior easier to use, much easier adding gifs, emojis and attachments.
I use Google Messages it's really nice and simple to use.
Wish you could uninstall the samsung contacts, calendar, calc, clock, messages, phone etc.... it's the one thing that irritates me with samsung that they spend all this effort replicating what google already does a perfectly good job of.

You can remove using the adb commands. You can find the package name by using the apk analyzer app.
I was using Google Messages on my previous device, but with the S21 I couldn't set conversations to be mute (roaming messages i receive daily on my 2nd sim).
I can only make the notification silent for that conversation, but I don't even want the notification, which I cannot do.
Samsung Messages have this ability
I use signal. Better than both, has everything plus security and privacy.

Well you can hide apps from the main user (you) with this trick but you can't actually delete the apk file from /system unless you have root.
I personally prefer Samsung messaging app, mainly because of the its UI.
However, the main advantage of Google messages is the availability of RCS by default, no matter where you live or which carrier you have. You can have RCS with Samsung messages but only if your carrier supports it.

In Samsung Messenger the no notifications option (bell icon with a bar on it) will not even show a notification in the Android notifications area (When I open Messages I will see there is unread messages in the silent conversation), while Google Messages it will still show a notification but without sound.
I use Google Messages because for some reason, MMS won't send or receive in Samsung Messeges.
If anyone has a fix for this....

Exactly, especially their UI. I have a pixel phone and many years after the launch of material design Google still doesn't use it in all its apps. The apps feels completely separate, each has it's ow design and colors. Some apps have dark mode with full black background (setting app) while others have dark gray background (contacts, messages,...). Let's not talk about YouTube, which still doesn't follow MD 2...
I like how samsung use the same design language for all its apps and they pay particular attention to small details just like IOS
