Hey all I'm running JB 4.1.2 (98.72.18) and after rooting and changing entitlement check to 0 the mobile hotspot gets stuck when trying to turn on, was tethering broken with this update? Thanks!
Answer: use safe strap 3.65 or previous.

PDAnet+/Foxfi no longer work and I get the Verizon message.
Open Garden does basic browser stuff but streaming services don't work with it.
Since rooting is considered legal (for now), if I go to the trouble of rooting and installing a custom ROM, will that allow me to work around the loss of Wifi tethering?

You can root, and get the stock hotspot working by making a single alteration in your settings database. There isn't a need to flash to a custom ROM to get that working.

I rooted my brothers Droid 4 after he updated to JB 4.1.2 the other day, and I changed entitlement_check to "0" and tether apps no longer give me the "verizon blocked" blah blah blah Message, and devices can connect to the droid4 hotspot , but no data is actually shared and all devices status bars do not turn blue (they stay white) .... so basically, there is a way to bypass the tether check on droid 4 JB updates BUT not data is actually being shared ..
Anyone else get this far?
I followed the directions from ovelayer's link and have the built in Mobile Hotspot feature working.
About a week ago, I completely wiped my phone and went back to stock Ice Cream Sandwich and then upgraded to Jelly Bean via the Over the Air update. After a few days of playing around with it, I finally rooted my phone today (using the RAZR_Blade method - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_nizg6yUZ0NRjVTZlQ0d1hXVVU/edit) and after changing the Entitlement Check setting with SQLite Editor, I can now tether wirelessly with my phone just fine.
I wiped my phone for a fresh JB 4.1.2 install and after rooting and changing the entitlement_check my mobile hotspot gets stuck when trying to turn on. Not sure how to fix it

It's completely normal for WiFi to be turned off when hotspot is activated.
This phone can only do one task at a time since it only has one WiFi chipset built in.
Newer models like S6 and above can multiplex both connections at the same time.
So I went back to completely stock/encrypted to flash the new 5.1.1 update with Wi-Fi calling. I want to stay encrypted but I want to re-root my phone. Anyone running the new T-Mobile 5.1.1 build (LYZ28E) with root and having any problems with Wi-Fi calling? I just want to make sure it won't break it if I root... it would defeat the entire purpose of going back to stock.
Thanks!

Flash SuperSU and report back to us, let us know if it works. You can always unroot with ease via SuperSU settings. There is a cleanup option.

I could, but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone else has done it first.
My biggest concern is that I have yet to see Wi-Fi calling work. I flashed my phone at work using NRT and I am connected to Wi-Fi, and I have enabled Wi-Fi calling (set to Wi-Fi preferred) and I'm not seeing any evidence anywhere that it's active. I'm probably going to have to wait until I get home and try my Wi-Fi there.
My phone is rooted and wifi calling is working. BUT i have several ap's at home. before i had no issue handing off from one ap to the other. now, i have to disable wifi and re-enable to connect to the closest ap. also, the update has completely stopped giving me notifications on my moto 360
No problems for me.
So, after i flashed Android 6.0.1 Stock, I lost the functionality of the back button and tasks button. I also can't use wi-fi, it just dont even turn on. What can i do to fix it? I updated from 5.1.1 Stock.
I rooted my Moto x , it bootooped, so I flashed stock firmware, now wifi won't turn on. I've rerooted and everything. Is there a way to edit build.prop settings to fix wifi? Or any suggestions how to fix it?

Make sure you factory reset and that you flashed the right firmware
