unlocking bootloader on Moto website model - Moto X Q&A

Hi, ive found a guy on my clocal craigslist selling a damaged motox for cheap, from the pictures i can see it has no carrier brand so he says he bought it from moto's website unlocked...
my question is, is it possible to unlock the bootloader on this model? also what should be the model number on the bootloader just to make sure its not a Sprint one, since Sprint's model doesn't have a carrier logo.
phone has a broken digitizer but powers on, my idea is to buy it and build my frankeinstein using my working ATT one.

Look at the model designation on the back of the phone. Right on the bottom back of my Sprint phone it shows " MODEL : XT1056". I assume it will show other model numbers there.

If he can't tell you for certain, you're gambling.
Also, if it is broken, it could have many other issues. Again... A gamble.

XT1064 Consumer Cellular Can't sim unlock IMIED not found

Hi,
I bought a consumer cellular Moto G 2014 from Sears, but when i try the unlocking services on ebay they tell me they can't find the IMEID in their database? Does anyone know if these can be unlocked?
Thanks.
Weird because I got the same phone (sears deal) and bought an unlock code from eBay from a UK seller that advertised AT&T unlock etc.
They found my IMEI just fine and got my unlock code within an hour of purchase. I'm using the phone in Canada (Rogers) currently.

I used lineoutcomms. I too have an XT1064 from the Sears deal. Haven't tested the unlock code I received yet as I don't have a compatible SIM card from another carrier at the moment, but he was able to provide me with one based on my IMEI. Cost was $2.68.
Are you sure the CC phones are even locked? How can you tell? I use Consumer Cellular, but I bought my phone from best buy. I never even thought about their phones being locked.
I bought 2 xt1064s from sears a month apart. Was able to unlock the first one off of ebay with no problem. Finally wanted to unlock the second one just recently and every seller i try says imei cannot be found. What gives? The batches shouldn't be too far apart. Is my only option to sign up with consumer cellular, wait out their time frame, and then request a code?
My CC phone came from Sears and yes they are locked. My question is, why go thru an EBay seller to do it? Maybe I'm missing something, but I just went on the Motorola webpage got my unlock code and unlocked it.

Non-legit T-mobile LG G4

Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a "new" LG G4 on ebay and the seller said that the phone is locked to T-mobile. Being a T-mobile customer, I thought that I can simply request a sim unlock code for the phone but that turned out not as I expected.
First of all, the IMEI checker was unable to find the device on the tmo website or other 3rd party websites. I found this to be odd as the phone was in a retail tmo box and the software on the phone seemed legit as it also had working wifi calling.
I called up tmo to ask for the unlock and they said it's not a problem and told me to try the built in unlock app. After waiting a day, I tried the app but the unlock didn't work and I kept getting a msg that the phone is inelegible for an unlock.
Again I called tmo and finally a rep said that the phone is a non-tmo phone and called up LG to ask for the unlock. LG told the rep that the phone is already unlocked but I found that not to be the case with after I tried an international simcard. Using that sim card gave me a promt after booting the phone that said I need to unlock the phone to use the network, even though I saw full signal bars.
Anyway, has anyone else had a similar experience with a phone not purchased directly from tmo?
my guess is that it was stolen
Take the back cover off. On the back, there are some numbers and letters in 4 or 5 places. Does your say H815, H812, H811, or something else? A picture without the IMEI and serial would be nice.

Does the imei under the battery and in the settings correspond?
the IMEI on the back and the box match. Here is the pic.

What about the phone itself? What country/carrier are you trying to use it on?
t-mobile USA
the box is a tmobile box and the ROM on the phone is from tmobile.
Did you put your t-mobile sim card in when you tried to unlock? Can you do a temp unlock?
The h811 can't be unlocked for something like 60 or 90 days so if it was just bought from t-mobile by the person on ebay you won't be able to permanent unlock it for a bit.
I could guess that the IMEI was changed, if its not being recognized as a T-mobile phone. Maybe they changed the stickers. With the IMEI itself, my old third party bought G Flex showed up on the T-Mobile site as a G Flex.
Can't Unlock T-Mobile LG G4
I had the same problem with being able to unlock. Because you didn't buy from T-Mobile, they don't have the IMEI in their database, so you are not registered with them. The unlock can't work, because the program goes against their database and your phone is not in it. After many calls to TMO and LG, it appears that the only way to get unlocked is to sign up for a post-paid account and use $100 plus be in their system for 40 days. The only other way is to borrow someone else's tmo micro sim and use it for a while until the Device Unlock App works. (If you are worried that you are not covered by the LG Warranty, call LG and give them your IMEI.
They will confirm that your device is new and covered by the LG one year warranty.
*#06# in the dialer should bring up the imei the phone is reporting

I checked a 3rd party imei check and they can locate the phone as lg h811. Called up lg and have them the imei number and they said it has 1.5 years of warranty. So i guess the phone is legit but isnt in the tmobile system. It's is a bummer that I can't unlock it right now.
On another note lg told tmobile that my phone is unlocked. However when i tried a sim card from another country i got a prompt telling me i need to unlock the phone even though it was showing 5 bars of signal. Would that man it is locked or unlocked?
Did you use the imei on the sticker, or pull the imei using *#06#? They could be different if someone changed it

If you purchased a tmo employee phone from eBay, it doesn't show in their database.

Is my M9 Fake? New Unit with TWRP and S-OFF out of the box!

Hello I bought an M9 in a local online store. When I received it today it was already opened! When I checked it is already in Marshmallow with 3.41.651.4. A quick google search says this software is from Sprint? But I bought I bought an international unlocked model.
So I checked the bootloader and it was locked, but already S-OFF! I then went to recovery and to my surprise TWRP booted. Also going to recovery I get this black splash screen with HTC logo on it. Is this normal? All the videos I watch entering the recovery they get white splash screen with green HTC logo.
Also the reboot menu is different. I have attached some images.
I also can not get 4G signal with it! will this work? http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/how-to-change-network-bands-gsm-devices-t3135401 I think since Sprint ROM was initially loaded maybe I am having different baseband/modem?
Anyway I have successfully unlocked the bootloader, with this is fake?
Thanks!

First of all, this is M7 forum, so you're in a wrong place.
Second - it's not fake, it's a genuine HTC M9, but a used one. If it was fake, you wouldn't be able to unlock your bootloader via htc dev or any tool for HTC.
So, to conclude - you were scamed because you bought a second hand phone under impression it was new. Also, a Sprint version, and seller told you it was international. You figure out your next step - return it, or keep using it although it's not what you payed for
agreed with the guy above. since it's got s-off then either it really was an international phone but whoever had it before you messed with it flashing a different firmware, ROM, and recovery, Or whoever sold it to you lied about the fact that it's a used sprint phone.
Whatever you do next is up to you. But next time you buy something online (not just a phone), I would advise you to choose a reputable eBay seller with a clear return policy.
Best of luck.

And if it was fake, there wouldn't even have an HTC bootloader loaded on it
Unfortunately this "buy an international variant - get a Sprint/Verizon variant" scam is pretty common, even from reputable Ebay sellers, who most of time dont know much about the phones they are selling and use the wrong information. This is exactly what happened when I bought my M7, checked the PID# to be sure I was buying a M7_UL and got a M7_U.....
^True.. that's why a clear return policy is a must. You can change everything about this phone since it's got s-off, but the idea of getting something other than what you paid for sounds unacceptable to me.

I have a N920C, But I don't have a N920C..

So the other day I was looking through my settings and saw that it says sm-n920c as the model number. But, on the backside of my phone it says it's a 920t. I bought this phone off of Amazon as a certified refurb a few months ago. Any help or ideas on how to put it on the right settings/firmware? And I have ATT as my service and I haven't had an issue with service.. the n920t is Tmobile correct? Would I lose any SIM unlock if one is applied?

May be they swaped 920c motherboard so don't rely on what it says on back of your phone, but if imei matches with what's on your back of the phone then probably you will have a 920t model with a os of 920c modified probably. Check if imei is mentioned matches with your phone. If no imei is stated or matches then as said above they might have swaped the 920c motherboard on a 920t mobile.
I checked and the imei doesn't match. Solves that question lol thanks!

A question about tmobile unlocking

Hi guys
I recently bought a used 4xl off ebay that I want to install grapheneos on. I bought the tmobile variant to save some money, as I assumed as long as it wasnt the verizon variant the bootloader would be unlockable.
I've called 3 different tmobile support techs, and reached out to the @tmobilehelp twitter account, all of whom are saying the past owner has to call to have the phone sim unlocked. Is there a way to get the device unlocked without ever being a tmobile customer? I didn't originally have intentions to put a sim in the phone at all, but if i have to, i will.
What are my options to getting the bootloader/sim unlocked? Can I become a tmobile connect customer to get the phone on the network, and then request an unlock as i'd be the current owner of the phone?
Thanks

The past owner lost his phone or it was stolen while still under contract (hasn't been paid off), and it was sold on ebay. Pretty much the only option you have is to try and get your money back from the ebay vendor selling stolen phones. Have you contacted them already and what was their response? As for your last question about becoming a TMo customer with a stolen TMo phone, I guess you forgot to ask that when you talked with the 3 support techs? If you are lucky your IMEI is not blacklisted already and it is capable of being activated.
Hey!
I have a similar problem. Mine is from AT&T. The only thing you should know is if it is blacklisted or not.
If it is you may run into other problems!
I am still researching how to unlock the bootloader. I have already learned a lot of things but still trying... To get the phone unlocked I think the best way is to flash original firmware that comes with unlocked models(you can download it directly from google here )
Now, as the bootloader is locked, you can't just flash it directly as the bootloader won't allow you to flash things to certain partitions(like boot partition⛔️). I will let a pic of what you get, even if you use the force attribute.
The case is that Qualcomm chipsets have and especial mode called EDL.
With this mode you can flash any firmware, even if the bootloader is locked.
This is because the EDL is like the main bootloader, and then there is the 2 bootloader, which is the one is locked(See pic).
Concluding, what I am trying to do is flash the not locked firmware through the PBL(which you access through EDL mode, to get there just run "fastboot reboot edl" without quotes).
The problem is that you need some strange files, which appear to be very rare. They have an .mbn or .hex extension and I didn't find them yet. They are supposed to be inside the firmware, but I didn't find them yet.
When I finally find it, I am going to publish a full guide on how to unlock any firmware, even if it is from Verizon.
I already have understood how to unlock the phone to work with any SIM, mine despite being locked to AT&T it's working fine with my Vodafone SIM. Here is the link to my post
This information probably won't help because it's for a completely different device... But I had a OnePlus 6t prior to my Pixel 4XL and we had a T-Mobile to global conversion thread that used a tool that made our T-Mobile OnePlus 6t/6 a global model. I'll go grab the link to the thread and paste it here. I know OnePlus and Pixel are two completely different devices but what the hell. Hopefully it may help...
T-Mobile 6T to International Conversion (WITHOUT unlocked bootloader/SIM unlock!)
In the previous thread, we discussed a method to convert T-Mobile 6T's to the international variant, sort of, but it required an unlocked bootloader, which itself requires a SIM unlock which T-Mobile gives people a hard time about. However, it...

That is more less what your aim is here in quite sure... Make your Pixel 4XL T-Mobile an unlocked model. It would seem like there would be some way to do it, unless whatever the OnePlus developers did to have the conversion work is a no go because of how the two devices are made. I'm not sure as I have not dug deep in to this just figured I'd share. When I read your post this is the first thing that came to my mind. I hope you get it resolved. All else fails sell the T-Mobile model and try and get a Google model Factory unlocked. They have come down even more now I'm pricing.. Anyway good luck man.
