Can I unlock my phone with double-tap like LG G2 ? I have looked everywhere but i can't find double-tap to UNLOCK
Sorry for my bad english
I guess it can possible with iodak kernel v10. I flashed it but still i cant
No. There was an experimental feature in iodaks kernel but was removed due to decreasing battery life significantly
don't forget to hit thanks!
The one that allows G2 to do it actually requires hardware support. There is no way you can implement such feature without invoking wakelock... ==

Hi there,
I just got my Sony Xperia Z and I have a few questions. I went to the FreeXperia website and looked up if there was anything missing from CM. Under Fusion I found that there is nothing listed under "Not working".
So is the Xperia Z hardware 100% supported?
Is there any reason to wait on flashing CM?
Do I lose any specific functionality? Things that come to mind here are the NFC tags or the stuff that you can find in the "Xperia" settings, like Mirrorlink. What's Mirrorlink anyway?
I have seen that there is something called Bravia Engine. Do I need it?
Beside that I am wondering if I should unlock the bootloader. The CM wiki describes an installation method which includes unlocking the bootloader. I have found another method though, which doesn't require to unlock the bootloader.
So is there any gain from unlocking the bootloader apart from notifying Sony that you have void your warranty? :silly:
Thank you in advance.

I think all CM installs require unlocked BL as they use different kernel. I recall reading somewhere that camera and speaker phone (in call) are not working. The BE is used only in albums and movie play. It is responsible for improving picture quality. I think some ROMs support BE as well.
I think there are ways to re-lock your BL before heading to Sony repair desk. Try looking in dev section.

Thanks. I see. Then the method I read about for getting CWM on the phone can only be used for stock-type ROMs, I suppose. So AOSP-type ROMs require an unlocked bootloader. Tha clarifies things.
What good would it do me to relock the phone? Using the official way to unlock the bootloader requires me to go to a SONY website and notify them of me unlocking it. I even have to leave my e-mail address.
So CM still has some bugs that severe? It's strange that they even released an RC version then.
I read somewhere that CM does have terrible battery life for usage, because screen-on does suck the battery dry like vaccum pump. Maybe that's because the display isn't properly supported?
Thank you for clarifying about the Bravia Engine. Would be interesting to know how exactly it's able to improve picture and video rendering.

The CM 10 problem is with camera is because Sony hasn't release driver codes for working with camera. I don't know the story behind speaker phone issue. The biggest benefit of CM 10 is that you get the latest 4.2.2 with lots of extra goodies like pie control, additional boot options and numerous MODs and special configuration options.
Hi!
Our hammerhead currently lacks full support for ambient display in Android L. One+1 has the kernel changes we need already merged(https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...mmit/735f665d2f5dd350b92cffae26517ed494760b5f). I checked this patch before - it's not a match to our source, it needs some more merges in video drivers. I was just wondering if anyone on XDA tried to get this working and wanted to share progress and experiences with doze mode on 3.4 msm kernel?

but does our panel really supports that mode?, i remember people thinkering with the digitizer to get the double tap to wake like on the g2 (Without bat drain) and they got nowhere
The panel itself works fine, we are missing one feature only - enabling ambient display afer device is picked up, it needs to be ported to our kernel and sensors hal I guess.
We have a IPS LCD display, using Ambient display will suck a lot of battery juice :/

IPS doesn't mean its gonna suck battery. Nokia did it on IPS before.

The topic to be discussed here anyway isn't the screen type or its flaws. It is to get sensors to be able to wake the device with ambient display enabled.

Everyone's got their choice. I had my opinion laid.
how about applying the patch to cm kernel instead of stock, since it uses updated video drivers and such? is a no-go still?

It's included in CM12-CAF build, however we still don't have support for waking the screen after the device is picked up.

If I recall we had the option on some custom roms (4.4.4) to wake the screen when the device was picked up. I think it used the proximity sensor to detect when the device was picked up.
edit- I apologize, I just realized that this was for developers only.
@mikegapinski Any progress on this or is it abandoned? I'm really looking forward to using full ambient display on hammerhead if it's even possible.
Thanks!
You'd need over 750 patches in the graphics subsystem of the kernel before you can start applying relevant doze patches. Plus updated gpu kernel drivers etc etc
We'll have this on an additional nightly CM12 build eventually and it works pretty good. The only drawbacks at the moment are the situation where sometimes the pick-up sensor is triggered and enables the short wake-up effect; this is because we use a sensor blob from bacon. Then, in order to have a reliable pick-up, that always works, I abused the tilt sensor with some fixed parameters, which is wakeup capable. This however leads to a tad too long timespan from actual pick-up to showing the message on the display.
Whatever, take it or leave it.

Sorry for reviving this thread, but it IS about the display type. Not the AMOLED vs. LCD part, but if the display module actually incorporates Display Memory - which is a key in low-power Ambient Display options.
What Nokia/MS did is basically using DM with a simple script that moves the content around. It is low power, and as the phone does not need to be awake, power drainage is lowered even further.
Updates are ran by a background service that collects relevant notifications (the 6 lock screen notifications, the big lock screen info + current date/time), and on the exact minute, updates the DM. It results in a less than 1000ms wakelock, and does not keep the device awake.
I highly doubt that many Android phones would come with Display Memory enabled displays - it is simply not worth it financially, and would be mainly useless. So we cannot really reach the whole Nokia-level low power usage, though we can try.

CM 12.x hammerheadcaf
When I first customized my OP5 settings under OOS 4.5.0 (before the last two OTAs) there was a "Proximity Wake" toggle under "Settings->Display-Ambient display". The feature allowed you to wave your hand near the OP5 and the display lit up briefly so you could see the lock screen. See "How to Enable Proximity Wake" and the accompanying YouTube demo.
Since the first and second OTA that option has been replaced with an "Lift up display" toggle. I'd much rather the proximity Wake feature or better yet, both.
Does anyone know why that feature was replaced? Did it not work reliably?
It's possible it was using too much battery power.
In an effort to save battery the setting was lost on the wayside...

A reasonable assertion but maybe they should've let the functionality be limited to "while on charger" like other battery sucking features. Thanks for your input.
All the Moto phones have this including the the Moto Z play and it has the longest battery life of just about any phone. This a a great feature and one of the reasons I bought a OP5 . Can't believe they just got rid of it.
Maybe if enough people complain it will be put back in by another Ota. One plus do seem to at least listen to the Dev community. ..

Yeah this was a great feature I had on my Nokia 1020, if it was causing battery drain on the OP5 then put an alert when you toggle it that it will have a direct impact on the battery life. Crisis averted then.
Ambient display in general is sort of weird on this phone. It doesn't exactly do what I thought it would. Maybe the removal of this feature is one of the reasons. But with the notification light so dim (maybe this can be altered with a mod or future ROM, I hope), the live display aspect is sort of needed. Is there a post on the OP forums on this yet? Someone should make one.
This is something I really miss from my old Moto
If you are rooted, there is a workaround to have proximity wake enabled. Instructions are provided in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/guide-how-to-enable-ambient-display-t3690488/page4
Hi there,
I've found this easy tweak to enable double tap to wake on Huawei/Honor devices.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/enable-double-tap-to-wake-t3312676
I loved this feature on my old G4, as it was not needed to pick up the phone from a desk, etc. Unfortunately, it seems Huawei does not give a f...k and adds and removes it randomly from its products lineup depending on the weather I guess.
The above instructions are really simple on a ROOTED device. Would any candid soul that already has a rooted mate 10, try to see if the feature is at least available in the system file? (super simple to do with a root explorer). My phone is not rooted, as I'd not like to void the warranty in case I return it since I'm not fully happy so far with this and other Huawei SW neglicencies.
Cheers.

You mean, the option shows up in the accessibility menu, but not possible to activate right?. Shame on Huawei.
WHICH FIRMWARE ARE YOU ON?. I'm on 142 on a EU hardware.
BTW, any other reliable 3rd party up or alternative to wake up the phone without picking it up or using the power button?

I'm on B145.
They include a lot of "features" for other Huawei phones, as they seem to use the same sources when they build. Many are non-functioning though.
Face unlock with pick-up to turn on screen works fine. Or just fp reader on the back
But it still requires lifting the phone or putting your finger on the back.

Right. What a waste of such a great HW with such a poor software, lack of basic premium (?) features on a high end device.
Thanks anyway mate!

Am sure you are aware kernel must support double tap to wake in order for this switch to work, if u guys have a kernel that supports this... It will work else no way on earth that's happening
BTW, tried a few of those 3rd party apps where I managed to wake the phone up via the IR sensor from the AOD screen. But, this only works for a minute or so, if the AOD is on for longer, IR cannot wake it up.
Looks as if the app is put in a deep state or the sensor not accessible by it once the phone enters a deeper stand by (?).
All power saving crap option disabled. Wrote the developer but no response.
You guys, since you rooted it, would you know if the issue is still present when you freeze power genius via Titanium perhaps?
Hello everyone. Sorry for my crappy english. Im thinking on buying this phone but the lack of the always on display feature throw me away. Is there a way to hack this feature in to the phone? I know about third party apps that do almost the same, but they use too much battery.
Thank you
Likely not. The low current draw hardware is part of the design of phones that support it so they phone can enter a deep sleep state but still display AOD.
