Hi there,
I've found this easy tweak to enable double tap to wake on Huawei/Honor devices.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/enable-double-tap-to-wake-t3312676
I loved this feature on my old G4, as it was not needed to pick up the phone from a desk, etc. Unfortunately, it seems Huawei does not give a f...k and adds and removes it randomly from its products lineup depending on the weather I guess.
The above instructions are really simple on a ROOTED device. Would any candid soul that already has a rooted mate 10, try to see if the feature is at least available in the system file? (super simple to do with a root explorer). My phone is not rooted, as I'd not like to void the warranty in case I return it since I'm not fully happy so far with this and other Huawei SW neglicencies.
Cheers.

You mean, the option shows up in the accessibility menu, but not possible to activate right?. Shame on Huawei.
WHICH FIRMWARE ARE YOU ON?. I'm on 142 on a EU hardware.
BTW, any other reliable 3rd party up or alternative to wake up the phone without picking it up or using the power button?

I'm on B145.
They include a lot of "features" for other Huawei phones, as they seem to use the same sources when they build. Many are non-functioning though.
Face unlock with pick-up to turn on screen works fine. Or just fp reader on the back
But it still requires lifting the phone or putting your finger on the back.

Right. What a waste of such a great HW with such a poor software, lack of basic premium (?) features on a high end device.
Thanks anyway mate!

Am sure you are aware kernel must support double tap to wake in order for this switch to work, if u guys have a kernel that supports this... It will work else no way on earth that's happening
BTW, tried a few of those 3rd party apps where I managed to wake the phone up via the IR sensor from the AOD screen. But, this only works for a minute or so, if the AOD is on for longer, IR cannot wake it up.
Looks as if the app is put in a deep state or the sensor not accessible by it once the phone enters a deeper stand by (?).
All power saving crap option disabled. Wrote the developer but no response.
You guys, since you rooted it, would you know if the issue is still present when you freeze power genius via Titanium perhaps?

Hi all,
I've just received my Nokia 8 yesterday and I'm impressed so far however one thing is really bugging me.
Does anybody know how to turn off the haptic feedback on the fingerprint scanner when I am waking my device. I can't find the setting anywhere
There's no such one.
Ok fair enough. Thanks
Sent from my TA-1012 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
It is, however, one way to turn off the fingerprint scanner vibration; set the phone in battery saving mode and it doesnt vibrate on scan anymore.
Not ideal, I know.
You can stop the vibrations.
Go to Settings -> Sound -> Advanced -> under the heading "Other sounds and vibrations" go to "Vibrate on tap" and turn that off. This will stop the haptic feedback on the 3 buttons at the bottom of the phone.
Also, to stop the haptic feedback if you set your security to enter a pin number for your SIM card, go to Settings -> System -> Languages & input -> Virtual Keyboard -> Gboard -> Preferences -> and turn Vibrate on keypress off. I personally use the Swype keyboard as my main input method but because the SIM security interface pops up before that keyboard is loaded when you boot, you have to change it in the Gboard settings to see the effect.
Hope it helps

I have always had vibrate on tap turned off and the finger print scanner still vibrates when you use it.
I think it's normal, it must somehow notify if the scan went correctly or not. With the screen off, haptic feedback is the only discreet solution. Even my Nexus 5X behaved the same way and did not allow its disabling
I believe their could be away to stop the vibration if we knew the App that it is responsible for fingerprint vibration and turn vibration off in settings of this app.
for example the Nokia 8 vibrate after missed calls, and we can stop that from App notification in settings, so I'm looking to solve this issue the same way.
so any one know which app is responsible for fingerprint reader feed back & vibration ??

It works like this always, also on Pixel and Nexus. It's a normal behavior, a way to make the user understand in a discreet way that the scan was successful or not.
I don't understand why you are asking this question as if it were a bug or a lack.

Actually it is a bug, I unlock my smartphone like more than 50 times a day and maybe more, I don't need to get notified by vibration every time I unlock my smartphone.
this is an Android misbehavior.

It isn't a bug, it's the normal behavior. It works like this on any smartphone in the world, have you noticed only now and on this specific device?
It's not a notification, it's an haptic feedback: one impulse, finger recognized; two impulse, finger not recognized; nothing, something wrong, doesn't work.
The problem that you put is like saying that I block the device several times a day and don't want the excursion and the click of the physical button, IMHO.
If anything, the problem to be asked would be to make the feedback more discrete by modulating the vibration differently.
Without that feedback, how would you realize if there was an error in the scan or does the reader not work? (considers that the unlock works with screen off and it would be a waste of battery to turn it on only to notify the wrong scan).
In the end it seems to me a philosophical question and in any case should not be placed for this specific device, but for everyone, since it works so everywhere.
No, it's a android feature, not a bug. If it wouldn't work, then it would define as a bug and would be fixed.
But seriously, it would be a minor battery saving trick to be able to disable it. It's the reason why I disabled haptic feedback on typing several years ago, as it effected battery life tremendously.
Just to add to the existing consensus, it is definitely working as intended.
Or perhaps more accurately (seeing as I can't read the minds of Nokia's development team) it is working exactly the same as it does on any of the other android phones with fingerprint readers I have used recently.
Personally I find it useful as it provides feedback on if my fingerprint has been read and if it has been successful.
Because I often unlock my phone as I'm removing it from my pocket or as I'm picking it up so that it is unlocked by the time it's in front of my eyes the physical feedback is definitely appreciated.

Hello,
I don't know. But my previous Huawei P8 lite (2017) had the option to turn it off.
That's why I'm surprised because the (better) Nokia 8 doesn't have this ability.
It's just to avoid much battery loss that it would be nice to have that option (I have to unlock many times per day..)

If you want to switch off the vibration then put your phone on battery saving mode and see the magic. Have you seen? Have you seen? Have you seen?
Hi devs!
Since i have this phone iam searching the function for double-tap to wake-up feature.
Esp, cause the previous models had this feature.
I've been through a few launchers and a few apps, but it seems with a fingerprint-sensor this feature has become unavailable?
Any people here managed to double-tap to wake-up their device?
Thanks in advance!

Sorry to say but that incredibly useful feature is missing from the XZ1c. It's not just a software thing, I believe it's missing at a hardware level. So either the screen is different or the kernel doesn't support it.
Wave up is a way of opening and closing the screen and has had some good reviews from XDA members.
Thanks for your reply.
Let's see if i can get used to this and finetune it a little.

I'm giving a shot myself with this app... It seems working great... Only doubt of course is the battery draining... Let's see after a few days of testing...
P. S. So Wave Up is for the waving hands thing... What about double tap to wake?

Double tap to wake likely needs lower level support that isn't possible with a mere app.
BTW, I've been using the Wave Up app for months, did not notice any battery drain.
I personally love the wake screen after removing from pocket feature, it works like a charm and so handy to have. I now wonder how I lived for so long without it.
Also, you don't need to actually wave your whole hand, just flick a finger 2 or 3 times over the sensor area and boom. Although I'd still prefer DTTW, it's a great compromise.

Yeah, I saw WaveUp recommended on XDA too and used it after trying and disliking Gravity Screen. It's been fantastic, and I actually don't notice a lot of battery drain from it either. I sometimes end up double-tapping the proximity sensor. That generally works pretty well. Sometimes even better than waving.
Just a little update about WaveUp.
Definitely, a must have for XZ1 Compact owners. ?????????????????. After a few days of testing I can confirm it has almost zero impact to battery (I can't notice any difference, in fact it doesnt even shown on Setting's Battery usage) but once u use it... U can't stay without it anymore!
I really i don't understand why Sony didn't include this functionality out of the box...
I am using Gravity Screen to wake my phone using the proximity sensor, but I noticed it keeps the sensor ON all the time even when the phone is locked. I think this is what WaveUp do as well. I'm kind of concerned with the sensor being awake all the time that it might affect the lifespan of the sensor and get damaged fast. I hope SONY put back that double tap to wake.

Might be a late reply, but an app called Glimpse Notifications does exactly what you want.
Update: WaveUp works, but can be annoying when cleaning the screen.

They do it on purpose, they always take something away and then put it back in the next model. But the next model will miss a different detail, and so on ...
Is there a workaround to get smart lock to work on MI 9?
I connected my Hesh 3 Bluetooth headphones, smart lock notification pops up. Added hesh3 to trusted devices, yet the phone still locks when the headphones are connected.
Furthermore, can't find smart lock menu anywhere in settings for the life of me....
It appears that in miui roms the Google smartlock is not fully implemented. Also if you connect a device and mark it as trusted, xiaomi's smartlock only works with xiaomi devices.
Maybe in some future updates or roms it will work with other brands.

Yeah, this is really annoying, with Galaxy Note 8 I was used to have the phone unlocked when in the car... Only thing that saves this issue for me is that fingerprint sensor is under the screen so no need to take the phone out of the car holder to unlock it

I have submited feedback, but I'm not optimistic about a fix.
also have issues with notification access with nova launcher... It reverts to OFF( although showing as active in settings) after some time..
nothing against miui. I really like it, but it is way too buggy
Agreed. Both Xiaomi and their Developers are useless morons who just want to force their own thing down people's throats.
Dumb lock
They deliberately disabled that feature, it's really annoying, can't believe no one comes up with a fix via a paid app.

Tap fingerprint sensor to wake or use mokee rom
Hi I bought a Xiaomi Mi9 not even a month ago.
These days I found a really annoying problem, my Mi9 unlocks itself in my pocket. I state that I have done all the possible tests, that is with and without double tap, with and without unlocking via mi band4, with and without lifting option, password, fingerprint and face detection. Trying various combos (thinking that maybe some of them would conflict with each other) I arrive at the same conclusion. Start the emergency keypad on your own, or if I receive notifications it even opens me up or I find myself navigating through my apps.
This is the main problem.
I have found other problem, like if I talk at the phone, I put the auricle in the right ear, everything is ok, while if I move it in the left ear I no longer feel anything. (proximity sensor
defective ultrasonic?)
Another problem that perhaps seems to have solved was that of bluetooth devices, the saved devices menu was missing. With a reset I fixed the problem at the time.
The fingerprint detector every 10 attempts, 3-4 never go through if the screen is in total standby, while if you wake up the screen in any way and then use the fingerprint it always works.
The most important thing I would like to solve is that of unlocking in my pocket, it particularly bothers me. I read that in June they had to fix this option, optimize it, but apparently it doesn't seem improved. I know that here the pocket mode is automatically inserted compared to other devices. But apparently it doesn't work at all.
I have the device correctly updated.
Help me discover something more or at least solve this problem and sorry for my bad english i'm italian boy =P

Hi
Which firmware, rooted or unrooted?
I can recommend to root and use firmware of xiaomi.eu
If you have the latest firmware with pocket mode included your only two options to fix the pocket unlocking’s are: 1. Get at flip cover. 2. Delete all fingerprints and use another unlock option like face recognition or so. This will also get you noticeably better battery hours.
The speaker problem I think is a problem with the position. It is very critical that you put the tiny speaker hole exactly in front of your ear opening, a couple of millimetres aside will make the sound almost silent. This is if you by feel mean hear. Try to hold the phone at an angle out from you face with the upper part pointing to your ear and move the phone up and down to se if you can hear better.

Let me suggest a fix for the fingerprint issue.
Turn off the show "fingerprint on lockscreen option"
There really isn't a pocket mode for the mi9 because of the in-display fingerprint reader
About the "unlocking in your pocket" issue, I think you should try a different unlocked method, maybe a password to see if it's still there, and also ensure you don't have "On body detection" enabled in settings.

Face unlock is totally unnecessary or maybe I should say involves extra steps on this phone.
1) Its software based so can be unlocked with facial similarities.
2) you have to actually turn on the device & swipe up to activate the pop-up.
Thus fingerprint is much faster & efficient to use as it's already always on

1) Yes and fingerprint while having way less chance of that is prone to similarities as well
2) That is bad, in my opinion it should automatically pop up when activated via button on the side or tapping on a notification on the lockscreen
About faster and more efficient... The fingerprint scanner is too low to be comfortable and i prefer to press the button on the side and comfortably swipe up than try to reach the fingerprint sensor.
I really wish that whole under screen sensors while cool concept would move back to what Sony did with fingerprint sensor on the side so you unlock when you just grab the phone.
think what would happen, if you where to press a button accidentally and the cam popped up in your pocket...
