Too instability on my device, is needed your help - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm having a very unstable S3. Unluckily I'm an advanced and enthusiast Android user, unluckily because I've to suffer the continuous proposals of an untouched device, as solution for all my problems, you should understand me! [emoji16]
So... I won't renounce uselessly to any app or tweak, if you are not expert surely you can't help me.
-----
My device:
Device: Samsung Galaxy S3 International 16 GB (+64 GB exFat SD);
Rom: CyanogenMod 11 M9 (upgraded from M8);
Modem: LG8;
Kernel: BOEFFLA Kernel (the last stable release, sometimes the last beta);
Mods: BRAVIA Engine 3 and xLoud (both flashed before kernel), Xposed Framework (some modules included GravityBox, with "few" tweaks enabled), customed build.prop e init.d script files.
The "heavier" build.prop tweaks:
power_supply.wakeup=enable
persist.sys.ui.hw=1
debug.sf.hw=1
dalvik.vm.checkjni=true
dalvik.vm.verify-bytecode=true
dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit
dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=m=y
Useless report init.d tweaks, there are stupid things respect to build.prop ones.
-----
Premised my device specifications, I'm having a "war" against System UI who freeze the entire system for a long time before goes to FC. After many full wipes, the same problem.
In the first middle of July I decided to reconfigure my phone at "workmanlike", knowing what to do, how and when.
According to a terrible ARHD experience in last summer, "two" reboots instead one, then the wizard, then Xposed Framework, kernel and mods, while at last I did all the rest.
Initially I was moved by the greatful performance, but after a week, regressions started with the already cited System UI crashes, that make the everyday life an hell. Now the problem is extended to other apps.
Main apps sometimes require a long time to be opened, showing a black screen until a FC.
Enabling the view of all the ANR dialogs, I noted that Facebook at casual times is not responding and at bootup it slow system for many seconds. I always hated Facebook Android development, performance and battery saving are critical for everyone.
Since some days also cLock have lots of FCs, and upgrading from M8 to M9 I did a mistake: I reflashed Gapps, causing another "collection" of FCs of Google services such Play Services and Play Framework, because I replaced part of updates with old versions... so I think and I hope I'm wrong, less problems is better!
I need your help to know causes of my terrible instability, I know also a fast, powerful but rare S3 in my hands, I want know what let it to be so useless and enervating.
I did lots of resolutive attempts, e.g. wipe cache and Dalvik cache, do data restore and wipe with Titanium Backup, but nothing [emoji26]

[App] SwitchMe secure login manager needs GTAB testers please!

Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on the GTab have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, bes sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,
others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
Why is this functionality useful?
Privacy - the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.
Testing - if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.
Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.
Speed - the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.
Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.

The Lite version allows the creation of two profiles, enough to test on.

i actually bought your pro version and i was able to use it, and i realized, when i try it hangs on boot, but after you clear cache after trying to switch profile, it will work pretty well, i also can confirm this works well on the nook color running cyanogen
gtab running vegan 7.1.0 gingerbread
and i have about 3 apps installed on sdcard
Thank you for the feedback. Were you wiping the cache partition through or the dalvic cache CWM?
when i switch it hung so i hard booted into Cwm recovery and wiped cahce and dalvik after rebooted it booted into 2nd profile, and worked from there, i was able to switch back in forth without it hanging on bootanimation,
for the nook color it works perfect havent really seen any issues rise since installed, only draw back when i purchased pro it was on wifes account not mine
side note wife has 23 applications installed on sdcard, on the nook color
Oo guess forgot to add functionality well i got a gtablet and nook color
the gtablet is mine and nook is wifes
But she likes to use the 10 screen so made a profile for her and her stuff, and when she uses my tablet ill use hers so i can add all my lil mods and apps so it doesnt conflict with her stuff as well we got a kid so we use it for her kid games and movies
Any issues to report?
SwitchMe 1.2 has been rolled out and now includes a lockscreen replacement:
1.2
Added lock screen for logging in and out
More stable Fast switch implementation
Reworked UI colors
Now, its very important that we get some feedback on how this big new feature works, so please read up on it in the help and post your thoughts!
1.2.2 - HOTFIX 2
Reworked widget on qHD+ displays
Fixed widget text on HC and ICS
Fast switch improved on older devices
Hi guys! I would really appreciate some feedback regarding the new lockscreen!
Anything at all guys?
Tried this app about a week ago sorry I didn't post back sooner. Running Beastly-Clemsyn rom (android 2.2) on gtablet, normal install to internal memory, no overclock. I tried to install twice but both times it froze my tablet immediately after installation. Couldn't do any testing or troubleshooting as I could not successfully install. This app is a great idea and I will keep trying to get it to work as new versions are released.
MOst likely there is no point unless your rom changes...
Thanks for the reply. I will likely change roms again soon and will definitely try this out again when I do.
OK, sorry but its just too dangerous to support data links - there would be boot loops everywhere!
By the way, some intit scripts would also make it incompatible!
1.4.3.7
Fixed device specific switch screen crashes and issues
Fixed UI bug in switch screen preferences
If anyohe had problems with superuser before, this should fix them. Please let me know if that is the case, its important we get some feedback here!
1.5.3.0
Enabled full support for MIPS and x86 architectures
Many root daemon code fixes and optimizations implemented
Any issues with the new build?
Anything to reprot?
1.5.3.8
Fixed issue switching profiles (One X and others)
Fixed rare crash on adding/ removing profiles
Fixed many device specific issues from user logs

[Q] How to avoid over-tweaking?

I suspect that it is possible to over-do it with attempts to optimize memory usage and performance by appying tweaks from different apps that might end up cancelling each other out or actually making things worse. I envision the situation similarly to old people taking various medicines from various doctors who do not coordinate the medicines they are prescribing, and the patient gets sicker.
So let's say the patient is an Exhibit II running Slimbean. Please suggest one or two or three improvement tweaks that can be done without causing a clash of tweaks that make things worse, and name the apps to make the tweaks. I've got App2SD, SwapSD, BuildPropEditor, SDTools, SDBooster, ROMToolbox, PimpMyRom, AutoKillerMemory installed. Should I use them all and do lots of tweaks, or do just one or two or three things from maybe just one or two of those apps?
Any conservative Android doctors out there -- please comment. Astonishingly, with untweaked Slimbean, I'm getting AnTuTu speed tests in the 4,600-ish range, after doing three or four of the tests. That seems pretty fast already.
Please advise, wise Android doctors.
Use stock perf settings romtoolbox to set minfree/oom and pimp my rom. In pmr make rescue first and work a set at a time save/ apply reboot run test if desired results then proceed. Do this for each set and remember the settings because if bootloop then need to cwm restore pmr made. After the backup undo is complete do the entropy. It is noticeable. Next in line if I recall. Miscellaneous tweaks do all them. Don't mess with VM settings.
Sdtools and sdbooster is not needed. Romtoolbox and pmr cover that.

Does having to many xposed modules effect performance

My phone is getting laggy even with random drop cache, wiped dalvik, zip align etc. I cant really pinpoint to cause of the lag and performance issues but i do have a large amount of xposed modules activated. 28 total. Could this be the reason im having issues. I have 550mb of free internal memory. 2 gb free on internal sd. I havent made any performance changes. My phone used to be very responsive so i wont to illuminate possibilities on xposed modules or not. 28 total.
Thanks
Josh
You mean affect right?
What was the point in you even replying?
Though I am unable to confirm or deny this with any proof I'd have to say yes if it is active (theme) or used(YouTube mods) this would take more power to perform these actions like if you opened 100apps in a row the loading would cause cpu to skyrocket an not work
As a general rule, the more apps are running on your phone, the slower it gets. This applies not just to xposed modules but all apps, including system apps.

ART, F2FS, Lollipop, MM - Are any of these good boosts/alternatives to Kit Kat?

I'm running jcsullins CM11 (20151116), Kernel 3.0.101 (also TWRP 2.7.1.0)
Then using Kernel Tuner I pushed the max CPU to 1782Mhz
I don't use the tablet for many resource hungry apps (Spotify, Reddit, KLWP) but it's prone to being a bit laggy. I'm just wondering (within the bounds of possibility of a 5 year old tablet) if there's anything else I can do to speed it up a bit.
Seems to me like ART on CM11 isn't much more than a proof of concept. I don't really understand filesystems that well to be honest, and I'm reading conflicting posts about whether L or MM based roms are better or not (Evervolv or jcsullins 12.1)
Ok, so with almost 150 thread views in 3 days and no replies, I've taken it upon myself to try these to see how it goes. I'll continue to edit this post with what I find if anyone is interested.
I'm only interested in my perception, not benchmarks. Especially when benchmarks can be differently optimised across OSes and I intend to bounce around a bit.
Dalvik/Art
First thing I did was nandroid and titanium backups, then enabled ART in Dev options. First boot took a couple thousand years to get past the boot animation and Optimising Apps screens (expected) and then the tablet was slow as molasses (somewhat expected). I let the tablet settle down, then rebooted it. Next I methodically opened each app and played around with some basic functions. I then rebooted and repeated the process.
What I've noticed:
The initial boot, running each app etc is a bit of a painful process, but it's worth it. Everything starts up a little faster. Still a bit of lag, but not bad. No app crashes/incompatibility that I've come across so far.
F2FS
Basically this test failed. Flashed TWRP 3.0.0, changed the filesystems and rebooted. Got past the initial setup but no apps would install or update (even play store). Rebooting is like initial boot every time, going through adding wifi, google account etc. Something somewhere isn't writing to this new FS. Good enough reason to wipe it and move on to MM
For F2FS I think you need to use a rom that supports it, such has evervolv.
I tried out cm12.1 and evervolv(mm 6.0).
cm12.1 play store would always crash for me, tried it twice wiping everything. (I did not try Jcsullins version)
evervolv is very nice, the layout of android 6.0 (and 5.x) looks much better then android 4.x (personal opinion). I had zero problems with things not working/crashing. However if your looking for responsiveness, I think your best bet is kitkat with art and overclocking the cpu to 1.78ghz. Performance and battery usage is better in cm11 then anything else I tried. (my opinion).
For cm I use the milaq builds as they are more recent and incorporate security fixes.

Why is Samsung's default Android with their stuff so slow?

I used lolipop most of the time on my S5 mini but I also used marshmallow recently. Even with all **** disabled there are still very noticable delays when I switch between applications and scrolling isn't smooth, some transitions are not as smooth either.
I'm using Slim6 at the moment and first thing I noticed when is that it's so smooth. For a while I thought this phone's hardware is too weak for system or it should run it damn smooth. On another hand I see phones like J5 2016 from Samsung which has Marshmallow preinstalled and it's so much smoother than my S5 mini ever was.
So my question is what causes the system to preform so slow and not as smooth as one would like? And it can't be bloatware because even if you disable and uninstall all of that **** it still runs just as bad.

Stock Lolipop is full of bloatware, and the problem is, this software runs mostly in Backgroud, even if you don't use it.
Wow I'm actually shocked. After removing around 20 Google and Samsung crap that came preinstalled using Bloatware removing tools I can actually feel the difference in smoothness and device is a lot more fun to use. Again understameted what all those annoying apps from Samsung and Google can do.

What app and with what parameters (setup) have you used for debloating?
Nevermind it's getting slow overtime still. ****.
It's the kernel, don't use Samsung stock kernel. I've got a G800Y variant and that sh*t was as slow as a fkn fliptop I swear. I've got the following on mine:
- Xposed (23/87.1 for Samsung) <- Personally, this is also partly to do with being able to maintain everything, there's a module called like 100M+ Memory Saver (module list below)
- No Google Play Services/Play Store/Location/ANYTHING (even using Yalp Store as an alternative to that cancerous bundle of leaching bloatware)
- Hopefully sometime soon the open source OpenLauncher gets fixed up sometime soon, swear its the best of every Launcher -Performance draining features/+Free and it's pretty tidy too (but broken)
- HEBF Optimizer (Free - XDA), not sure about this one but the UI is tidy and it's got some good stuff, personally used to 3C but I have both installed
Running on the SpookyCity v2.5 CM13 Kernel (you have to CM-Auto-Root to get an install without that dirty blue/red in the top left and fix up some root permission issues I was getting), with LineageOS 13.0. Don't install addonsu, pretty sure I got it going using some divine blessing with SuperSU 2.79.
Xposed Modules
- 100M+ Memory Saver
- 3C Toolbox Pro (Free/Paid - Xposed/Play/$9.99) [Xposed-capable] little outdated, but it's got a whole bunch of options for lazy/new/any user
- Adblocker Reborn
- All My...
- Android N-ify
- FS Keyboard
- Xposed Settings Injector
Even though it states the G800F Kernel is just that, for the F model, I managed to get it going primo, gonna see what RR is like so I'll prob do a guide on that to be honest, all I know is this phone was never going this fast before I threw a custom Kernel on it, exponential speed increase.
Sounds like a lot of work. Will keep that in mind but he also made great rom that works really well for now Slim7 which also offers stock UI which looks so much better than lolipop skin from Samsung, so I'm gonna hopefully be able to stick with that.

Just to be noted, that was with a G800Y. That variant doesn't seem to have too much support but I haven't really found anything other than the bands to be that different between the two although I can't seem to get this '1500MHz' clock speed I've seen here and there.
Since I last posted, I installed got rid of MM - the features are great but I have a friend who's running N and their battery life is more than double what it was stock or MM. So I factory reset (TWRP - No need to lose your pictures etc, just make sure to make a .vcf back up of your contacts), flashed the SpookyCity v2.5 RR Kernel and threw on the latest build of Resurrection Remix (2.8.4). No need to opt into the Google scam or anything stock that Samsung has to offer, just use Yalp Store*.
Sure I've lost a handful of features from Xposed, but with a phone that ranges from 35C - 45C combined with a battery life of ~8 hours, kinda worth it. Resurrection Remix is a combination of LOS and another ROM (Resurrection *something*) and it runs flawless. No need for Google because that's the real killer..
*Yalp Store - Featured on the F-Droid repository, you can log in using alt. credentials or even your own (at your own risk!), if you want purchased apps you can use APK Extractor (F-Droid) OR buy it via PS website and use your login. Google isn't in the picture when it comes to enhancing your phones performance, however you can still use the pixel launcher in RR 2.8.4, and if you're curious as to what you can use instead of the Google search engine try DuckDuckGo
