S5 Active - Options? - Samsung Gear 2 Neo

I hope this is the right place for this post. I have yet to do one in the right place.
I recently purchased an S5 Active from ATT. When I purchased it, I got the Gear 2 Neo for only $99.
I AM STEAMED that the sales person did not tell me that the S5 Active is not really compatible with the Gear 2.
When I go into the Gear Manager on my S5 Active, under Utilities category, there are only 4 applications available to me.
It was 3, but they just added a new one. 2 of my top reasons why I wanted the Gear are not available in the Gear Manager.
When I install the Gear Manager on my wife's S5, there are more Utility applications in HER Gear Manager than I want to count.
Do I have any options other than to wait and HOPE that Samsung pulls their heads out of their lower orifices???
Is there a way to trick the Gear Manager into not knowing that I have the Active model?
Is there another Gear Manager that I can use that would not block the apps?

What apps are you wanting? My neo works great with my active. Though i do hope for some developers to open it up

PS: According to the support desk for BackCountry Navigator, it is not the developers holding back items for the S5 Active.
It is Samsung holding back.

I rooted my active and changed the build.prop to identify my device as a regular s5. I have all the apps now and no down side that I've noticed yet.

Thanks for the info. Yes! There is way!
I will research how to that and see what I can find.
Thanks again.

Once rooted, use a root enabled file explorer (I like Root Explorer), open up /system/build.prop, look for the line ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-G870A and change to ro.product.model=SAMSUNG-SM-G900A
Reboot, and voila! Samsung Apps thinks your phone is an AT&T model S5.

I finally got up the nerve to do this.
I now have access to all of the same apps in the gear store that my wife does!
Thank you thank you thank you :good: :good: :good:

Glad you got it working....Just don't update your phone when AT&T pushes any out. There is a small update going around that if you install, breaks root and Towelroot won't work.

Can my s5 active version 4.2.2 works with the gear 2 neo

Google Edition KitKat & The Galaxy Gear

I just tried a KitKat GE rom on my i9505, To my surprise the gear paired up !
You need to make sure you have the relevant gear apks in /system/app.. although it did pair up fine..
I'll give more information on this shortly.. going to verify everything works as intended.
EDIT: To my surprise, the latest version of kitkat comes preloaded with the needed gear manager files.
All that is really needed is accuweather & gear manager and your set!
EDIT 2: In saying that, its no where near stable to be used as a daily driver, random reboots & wifi connectivity issues.
Although its nice to know its being incorporated.
Hmmm...I wonder what files it needs to make notifications work. I'm getting nothing on my Nexus5 even though it is set to send them

More notifications
I've ticked things, but nothing seems to come through. Going to play around with it a bit more

Make sure you install gearmanagerstub (I copied to system/app and then ran it to install). Then you need to install the extra apk files separately. All downloads available in link in my sig

Does Everything work? Contacts? dialer etc? Whats the problem with stability? Is it due to the 4.4 ROM you are using or with the gear mangaer? I got a real S4 GE edition and wourld love to have the Gear
For any one in the future going through what I did: YOU NEED THE STUPID " GearManagerStub.apk " for watch to work!!! OMFG what a waste of time to get this working!!!

I was able to get Gear Manager automatically installed on my i9505g as well using the NFC bump.
It seems none of the notifications work other than phone calls. I can't get Gmail or Hangouts to notify the GG. Have you had any luck with this? I was able to enable those notifications in Gear Manager, they just don't work.
Anyone tried it with the recent 4.2.2 update?

Samsung GPE devices dont need this, they contain touchwiz frameworks..
As per the notifications working, I recently tried to get them working although did not have any luck doing so..
It seems not all the APK's are being installed, media controller provider APK is not installing.. I havnt figured out why !
Also it seems that the services gear manager uses are not starting, may be due to all the initial APK's not being installed I assume..
I believe if we can get all the APK's that gear manager initially installs completed successfully, it will trigger the services to start.

Gear + Note 2 on PA 3.99, now what?

I can not get Samsung App store to install, keeps saying App not installed.
When I install the gearmanage.apk, I get device not supported when trying pair gear to Note 2.
Any advice?

Pull gearmanagerstub.apk from a stock samsung rom, the latest you can find.. you will have to manually install all the APK's bundled with gear manager also, best way to get these APK's is by decompiling gear manager and pulling them from the "asests" folder..
Although like I said barely anything works.

I would take the high road and give it a try before trying to pair it up on AOSP.

GG Safety Assistance

Hey guys,So I just got my Galaxy Gear today and Ive read around and even Samsung's own manual says there is this Safety Assistance where you hit the power button 3 times and it will take a picture with GPS and send it to you emergency contact. The manual says to enable it under settings then safety assistance. But under my settings in gear manager there is no such setting. I contacted Samsung and they can't find where it even says in the manual. Did this feature get removed,or am I just missing something?
Im including the link to Samsung's site and its on PG.35 of the manual.

My Gear and my new Gear 2 both have the option. My wife's does not. I think the issue is the rom you are running. My wife's Note 3 is running the stock T-mobile rom and she does not have the opinion. I upgraded to an international rom (to get rid of the t-mobile crap on my phone, most specifically the block they put on the tethering) and a side effect is I now have the Safety Assistance option.
Just figured I would let you know, incase you were interested,

The app wouldn't do any good unless you had the option in Gear Manager to turn it off and on, and to set an emergency contact for the app to message.
Perhaps there is a way to inject/mock the version of the rom to allow the option in Gear Manager so the option/ability is enabled.

Gear with tizen working on non Samsung phones non rooted and rooted

I bought a gear for $99 dollars it's on tizen and I have it working with my sprint htc one m7. The other thread is mixed and I thought it would be good to start a tizen one for non Samsung phones. I'll try to help everyone I can.
If you haven't installed tizen I did it with this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53028751
Ok so if you want your gear on tizen to connect with any phone rooted or not all you need is the newest gear manger apk and gearmanger stub apk but if your not rooted some things won't work .. what will work will be almost everything but calllogs, music controls, svoice, message app only but message notification will work just to make it clear .. and you won't be able to install apps from Samsung store endless you side load them idk how to sorry. Notifications work camera calls everything else works all you do install the gear manger stuff I said like regular apks .. if you want apps from Samsung store there's a tutorial in the gear 2 thread how to do it on non Samsung phones but you need root for that . But if you want what I said just install the apks.. I have my htc m7 Sprint connected to it
"This part works for non rooted and rooted"
Here's the link to get the newest gear Manger and gear Manger stub apks.

Does upgrading to tizen and the new manager solve the issue where calls are routed to the gear when you answer on the phone (not an issue with samsung devices).
Main reason why i would upgrade or buy a samsung phone, driving me nuts

No it still does the same thing.. But you just have to push audio source and change right on the dialer no biggie.. Tizen is worth it at least for the watch side of things. Great battery life I get 2 and half days before with Android I would get 12 hours. Beside that you get all true notifications you don't have to add any app right out the box with the apks installed.

[Q] Pair Gear2Neo with LG G3?

Title says it all, guys....can someone point me in the right direction of the correct version of GearManager? (I tried the Youtube link...and it appeared to brick my watch; or maybe the GearManager is screwed...GearManager *says* that it's paired (got the correct code on both Watch & Phone) ...but now the Watch keeps staying in the InitialPairing mode....
The only way I can remove the Pairing from GM is to Uninstall it completely from my phone....but I must be leaving some file, because it re-installs as still Paired to my watch...*grumbles*
Thanks in advance!

If you don't mind spending under $10 USD, there is an app on the Play Store that I used to pair mine with my G3. It's called Gear 2 Superfixer by Creatix Digital. Just download, follow the instructions precisely and you shoud be good to go. You DON'T need to root to use it. With that app, I am able to make and receive phone calls. There are limitations due to needing Samsung stuff, but it is pretty much all you need. It will have the correct version of Gear Manager as well. Good Luck.

I am not rooted, but this DOES work with rooted. It is encouraged as a step in the use of this app/info. Being not rooted, I did not try to download any apps AND I am using a LG G Watch at the same time. You may be able to download some, but I doubt Samsung specific apps, nor can you install the Samsung Apps apk AFAIK.

Anything from 2.2.xxxx does not work as the apk (which is only about 8mb or so) tries to download more files and it fails since this is not a samsung phone..
The drawback is that I can use the Gear as a standalone smart watch only for notifications.. I cannot get alarm, weather nor can I put S health or S voice on my phone..
*Nudge* to see if anyone has come up with a solution...
