Dude....read my Sig. Yeah, but it is ONLY possible for the RW variant if you are able to unlock the bootloader. Currently the only possible was is paying $45 to the "china middleman".

cellunlocker [.net] costs $8 usd and it's what we're all using. I personally unlocked two Rogers Moto X using it, and others on this forum said the same thing. There's already a thread for unlocking, read that one instead.

My curiosity is, if you unlock the AT&T version, will it work on T-Mobile's LTE network as well?

It should. I've used Xperia with no issues on TMo. Does cellunlocker work realiably for AT&T version?

I have heard about Roger's X being unlocked. But so far it seems nobody can confirm that AT&T moto maker ones can be unlocked. Or am I totally out off the loop?

Finally! With Motomaker's AT&T off-contract device available for purchase now, I understand that the SIM can be unlocked for use on non-AT&T networks. Does that mean it can even be used internationally? European and Asian networks?

I used cellunlocker to unlock my AT&T Moto X. Worked without any problems. Had unlock code in about an hour after placing order. Once unlocked, the Moto X works perfectly on TMO LTE network.

Keep in mind that the AT&T version lacks the 1700 UMTS band, which means that if you're in an area where TMobile hasn't reframed (to use the 1900 band) you won't have 3G coverage. Basically you'll be switching between LTE and 2G in those areas, and considering TMo's LTE coverage that could be a problem. Get the TMo version unless you plan to travel to/live in Puerto Rico or Chile (according to Wikipedia...).

I have just checked with cellunlocker net and they charge $24.99 which is insane. eBay is cheaper with their $12.something

What are you talking about? T-Mobile doesn't offer ANY Motorola phones, let alone Moto X.http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Check their stores or the website. You can get a non-carrier branded unlocked phone directly from Google for $400-450 depending on the config.

Republic Wireless Moto X on AT&T???

Does anyone have the Republic Wireless Moto X running on AT&T and is ok?
Just received a RW Moto X and realized I purchased it from them instead of AT&T on the Moto Maker site.
It is on 4.2.2 and I was seeing if I should even pursue rooting and flashing a new rom onto it that would allow the changing of the network technology (GSM vs CDMA, etc.)

Nope, if you don't plan to use Republic you should return it instead. The RW Moto X will only operate on RW. You cannot bootloader-unlock it, and you cannot SIM-Unlock it. That phone can only ever been used on Republic Wireless.
P.S. When you re-order your new phone, I highly suggest buying the T-Mobile version instead. The T-Mobile variant comes SIM-Unlocked and is Bootloader-Unlockable. You can use it straight out-of-the-box on AT&T or T-Mobile.
If you buy the AT&T Variant, it comes SIM-Locked to AT&T (and you will have to buy/obtain a SIM-Unlock code if you ever want to use it on another carrier), and you cannot unlock the bootloader either.
Additionally, the T-Mobile variant supports all of the frequencies AT&T (and T-Mobile) currently use in the United States.

Some additions to what @samwathegreat has already said...
There were some who were successful in using the 3rd party Chinese Website/Middleman to BUY the boot loader unlock code for the Republic Wireless X. BUT he is right in that no one has been able to SIM unlock them, so they will only work on Republic Wireless.
If you are going to get the GSM Unlocked (ships with T-Mobile SIM), which is AKA the T-Mobile version, from MotoMaker, just know that if you want to unlock its bootloader (if you want to root), while Moto will give you the unlock code for FREE on their web site, requesting the bootloader unlock code voids its warranty. So compare the price of that model, to the GSM Developer Edition X. While you can't customize its look (Dev Ed ships only as black face, woven white back, silver accents {buttons and camera ring}, and 32gig), unlocking its bootloader doesn't void the warranty. Internal hardware and functionality wise, the GSM Dev Edition and the GSM Unlocked are the same phone.

[Q] Moto X from T-Mobile to AT&T

I want to get a Moto X that would work if I decided to switch from T-Mobile to AT&T. My first preference is to buy it from Best Buy (I have some gift cards) but the guy at the store said if I bought a T-Mobile Moto X from them it wouldn't work if I switched to AT&T because it would be locked. From what I understand, T-Mobile can and will unlock this device for me if I ask them (nicely) meaning I could then use it with AT&T. Is my understanding correct?
My other options are to buy one from T-Mobile or get one from Motorola's website. Same question with these phones: Even if they are locked to T-Mobile at first, can I get them unlocked and use them on AT&T?

I don't know that there is a "T-Mobile Branded" X, and I don't think T-Mobile sells the X directly (at least it isn't on their web site).
Your choice, is the GSM UNlocked (includes T-Mobile sim) from Moto Maker web site, or the GSM Developer Edition... why?
These are the only way to get a Moto X that supports HSPA/HSPA+ over AWS (1700mhz) that T-mobile uses. History or why is this a consideration: When T-mobile started rolling out their HSPA/HSPA+ network, they did so on AWS(1700mhz) and are the only carrier to do so. While they are re-farming their 1900mhz from EDGE to HSPA+ in many areas, that isn't complete, so if the phone doesn't support HSPA/HSPA+ on AWS, it will fall back to EDGE in those legacy areas which remain.
Now, what is the difference between the GSM Unlocked and GSM Dev Edition? Kind of simple...
The GSM Developer Edition comes only as 32gig with black face, woven white back, silver accents (buttons and camera ring), and says Developer Edition on the back.
The GSM Unlocked (includes T-Mobile SIM) on Moto Maker can be ordered as 16, 32, or 64gig, and the face, back and accents can be customized, along with other customization.
BOTH are SIM unlocked out of the box. Both can be bootloader unlocked, however doing so voids the warranty on the GSM Unlocked version but not the Dev Edition.
Both of these editions support the same GSM/EDGE/GPRS/HSPA/HSPA+/LTE bands and frequencies. In fact, they are the same "board' inside, use the same roms, etc. i.e. other than the look of the outside & customization options, and bootloader unlocking voiding vs not voiding the warranty, they are the same phone. (hence the GSM Dev Edition being the preferred choice so you can unlock the bootloader and easily root it without voiding the warranty).
If you are on T-Mobile today, you could buy the ATT version at no contract direct from Moto, BUT... you can't unlock the bootloader (moto doesn't give out the codes for ATT, Verizon, Republic wireless and a few others), ATT Wont sim unlock it (so you could use with T-Mobile) unless you are their customer for a certain period of time, and it doesn't support HSPA/HSPA+ on AWS. While the ATT X does support 2 extra LTE bands, those bands are not currently used in the USA.

Yes, that is correct. The only caveat being that if ATT ever starts using those two extra LTE Bands (band 5 and 7) in the USA then the GSM Unlocked will have a slight disadvantage as it doesn't support them (hardware wise).

I bought the T-Mobile/GSM unlocked version from MotoMaker and it's working on my AT&T GoPhone plan no problem. I cut my micro-SIM down to nano and it works in the X just like it did in my Nexus 4. Interestingly I get better signal in many areas on LTE than my N4 got on HSPA+.

I have this device on the AT&T GoPhone plan and very pleased with LTE here in the mountains of NC..out performs my Moto X Dev Edition and Droid Maxx Dev Edition (Verizon) here..

A new (if you can find one to order) Republic Wireless Moto X (XT1049) will likely come with Android 4.4.2 (that's the most recent Android version for Republic Wireless). On 4.4.2, you can unlock the bootloader using jcase's Sunshine exploit app and get root by flashing a custom recovery. You can also GSM SIM-unlock if you want (by flashing to a Sprint ROM and back). You will not find much of anything in the way of custom developed ROMs for the RW Moto X. If you flash a custom rom such as CyanogenMod, at the very least you will no longer have the hybrid WIFI calling features that Republic Wireless adds in themselves. I'm not sure whether it would even activate or work at all through Republic's service. Any custom ROM for the Republic Wireless Moto X will likely need to be a tweaked version of the stock base ROM.
EDIT: It looks like RW is still selling the Moto X (2013). I wonder when they will run out.

is there an easy way to convert the Republic Wireless Moto X to a sprint variant? Actually it doesnt matter as long as I can have the gsm part unlocked. Can the RW variant be sim unlocked for use with gsm carriers?

Unless you want to use it outside the US, I don't know why you'd want to use a carrier other than Republic. But you could use it as WiFi only, especially with calling now available with Google Hangouts.

I bought it off ebay, from the description I thought I was buying a sprint version, I returned it but it got sent back to me due to the seller having an invalid shipping address. I'm not really interested in republic, and wondering what else it could be used for. Looks like the options are slim. Maybe I'll just re-sell it.

I have ONE question though, and I've looked around but I'm unable to find the answer over here. If I buy a XT1056 (sprint), and use your unlock method and a unlocked bootloader, and if I flashed a X1049 ROM onto it (assuming I would be able to do that) would I be able to use the device on Republic Wireless?

My guess is probably not, as I'm thinking that RW is pretty specific with their MEID #s. But, that being said, I don't really know.
As far as options on Republic, you pretty much have the best option that you have for all Moto X:
You really don't necessarily want an aftermarket rom, as it breaks things like Active Notifications and the like. On RW, you'd totally break your service.
That's why God invented Xposed. There sure are a ton of modifications that can be done through Xposed...in short...it rules.

Hi. @SubliminalME is correct -- you still won't be able to use it on RW.
You will however, be able to use an unlocked XT1056 on Sprint (assuming clean esn) and any GSM provider. The Sprint variant (or bootloader-unlocked RW unit -- they can be sim-unlocked too) supports full HSPA+ on AT&T and its MVNOs, and supports HSPA+ only in re-farmed areas for T-Mobile and its MVNOs (non-refarmed areas will only get EDGE data). No LTE on any carrier except Sprint - unless your carrier just happens to use band 25 (1900mhz) LTE..

I don't install custom roms anymore, Xposed has given me everything I wanted. From a rooting/using Xposed etc standpoint, what would you guys recommend? RW Moto X on RW, Sprint/RW Moto X on Ting/Cricket/Straight Talk (after unlocking etc) or Nexus 5 on Ting/Cricket/Straight Talk? I live in Chicago and it appears this area has been "refarmed" by T-Mobile, but currently on my Galaxy Nexus I'm not getting very good reception.

hey there is this cool new website to help you check if your phone will work with a different carrier http://www.willmyphonework.net/ and from what I know no you cant unlock that phone or root it but it still might work with T-Mobile I have no idea.

Yes, you can unlock your phone to use it on t-mobile network. I use it with tmobile.
You should pay for this, for me was $13, you just need to install an app. Moto x Unlock.
