Motorola: more RAM, higher resolution display, dock functionality, locked bootloader?
locked bootloader.... that kills it for me
If the bootloader isn't locked on the Atrix, then I'm going with that without hesitation.
You forgot to mention, bigger battery on Atrix as well.

does it have to do with the ability to flash non official ROMs on the phone ???
Optimus 2x has a 2MP front camera, 8MP rear camera... a big plus compared to the Atrix. With the higher resolution display you won't see much difference unless you look at your phone like you would at a letter in a dark room, more RAM is not that helpful as 512MB is more than enough for an Android device (heck, it's even enough for netbooks and Win XP).
I'd say the only proper advantage is the bigger battery which will definitely make a big difference in day-to-day use.
Atrix. Locked bootloader is only speculation, at the moment. And megapixels is not the be all, end all criteria on picture quality.

+1, but it's not sure about locked bootloader, we are not sure until we see it on the phone, remember what Motorola said:
"“We are working closely with our partners to offer a bootloader solution that will enable developers to use our devices as a development platform while still protecting our users’ interests. More detailed information will follow as we get closer to availability.”
Even if you can change by your self the 2X has the advantage to come with two loaders so you choose the LG homescreen or Vanilla.

My entire problem with the 2X has to do with it's screen. Why did they opt for an ordinary LCD screen on this phone? For me it may be too hard to go back to a regular screen after owning a samoled.
What really puzzles me is the fact that LG are releasing another phone along with the 2X that supposedly has a much better screen. I believe it's called the LG optimus black iirc. Why not give your highest end product the best screen? Bad decision if you ask me.

It's not an all ordinary LCD, it's an IPS display

Although I agree SAMOLED is great I wouldn't make such a big issue out of this. You probably only notice the difference in side-by-side comparisons and not in everyday use. Plus LCD is sharper and better in bright sunlight. Oh and it's an IPS LCD (like the iphone and ipad) so good colors and viewing angles.
Atrix now listed on amazon.com for 600 US-Dollar (= 437,062937 Euro) that would be a great price for europe...but i don't think we'll get it that cheap....
maybe i wanna get an atrix if it appears for the same price as the lg in europe and with unlocked bootloader...(cuz of higer res display, dock functionality, more battery power, bio sensor on back, 1gb ram)
get the l 2x, it will be easy to root.

Can't remember where I found it. It was on one of the German forums out there but Motorola officially said that they will lock the bootloader to make sure their gadgets like the display dock will work in a proper way.
I will definitely go on the L2X.

I bet you won't even be able to tell the difference between a 8MP and a 5MP picture. Don't forget that you will look at it on your 2MP HDTV or computer monitor. The problem is that the sensor is way too small to benefit from 8MP. MP is the last thing that we should care about a camera nowadays.
1GB RAM can make a big difference however. Especially since android phones tend to loose some memory for the GPU or something else. There is only about 300MB user accessible on the Galaxy S. I am sure that you would prefer a netbook with 1GB over 512 MB too. I think that this is even more important than CPU MHz.
The higher resolution would also have make a huge difference (especially when browsing web pages), but unfortunately I read the Atrix uses a Pentitle matrix which kills effective resolution. We will have to see which one is brighter and have the best contrast before making any judgment on the screen anyways.
I was really excited about the X2 but the more and more I read about the Atrix the more it seems like its the better phone. Even with the Locked Bootloaded and ATT usually puts and end to non market apps. This Atrix is a beast I use my phone for business so the battery is awesome. I just dont want to pay att higher prices, they are stupid expensive compared to TMO

2x have 1.3MP front camera only.
The most interesting me was the atrix have fingerprint and upgradeable to 1080p capture : )
I'm gonna get a new phone soon and im deciding between SP or Moto G. Rom development is very important to me aswell as a bit of hardware. I just want a phone who is ready for Android L. Is xperia SP ready for android L? Does it have many active developers?
I know, rom wise, Moto G has a upper hand but the problem is that Moto G doesnt have a sd card slot and 8 gb (Only 8) is not enough for me.
Which one should I pick

You already mentioned that 8 GB isn't big enough for you, then why would you even consider the Moto G?
Furthermore, I'm sure the Xperia SP will be able to run Android L hardware-wise.
Question is, will there still be devs around to port Android L to Xperia SP?

By the looks of the ROM development of SP, it doesn't look like it has a lot of 4.4 KitKat and that means it will be late to get Android L.
If you were in my place, Would you go for hardware and have less ROM support or would you rather have a phone with great ROM support but with minimum specs (Moto G)?

Hi ClarkOwen,
I've been a ROM Junkie like you once until i took an arrow to the knee but I've come to terms that its not always about the ROMs that make a device good. It will always come to the hardware specs that a device has to allow devs to decide whether to develop another android version. Personally for me it is always wise to get a phone with better hardware as it will most likely have more developers who are actively developing for the ROM. I rather you stick with the Xperia SP although the Moto G is also quite a good option.

I'd obviously go for the better hardware, the xsp doesn't have too much roms but they are being updated frequently and we even got cm11 roms to work on locked bootloader with the stock kernel! also the only bug in these roms is that the rear mic doesn't work
OK. I have both phones as here is what I have to say.
Moto G looks better (personal opinion, I have both white and red back shells).
Moto G is way more durable. Like not even close. I can drop my Moto G and not ever care...
Both displays are good but moto G has more saturated colors, while Xperia SP has better accuracy and sometimes Moto G tends to overexpose the colors close to blue which is annoying cause white looks pinkish. I prefer Xperia SP with Bravia Engine 2.
Multitasking on both phone is the same, cause they are both stupidly fast. That said Xperia loads apps faster cause it has 1.7Ghz against 1.2Ghz on MotoG and most (99.9%) of the apps are not multi-thread optimized.
In games Xperia beasts the **** out of Moto G with it's Adreno320 vs Adreno305 on MotoG. In OpenGL 2 benchmark I get 35fps avarage with 40fps max, while MotoG gets 26fps avarage, with 31fps max.
AnTuTu shows the same. 25209 score for Xperia SP, 19781 for Moto G.
In terms of software Moto G rapes Xperia SP hard time. Everything just plain works on MotoG, while XperiaSP has some software bugs, most of them are fixed by now, but we still need a few more software updates from Sony for all of them to be fixed.
Moto G is getting Android L, while we're not even sure if we're getting KitKat. But on the other hand we have XDA so you will have Android L on both devices anyway. Maybe even with Bravia Engine 2.
Xperia SP has LTE and SD card slot, while MotoG's LTE version with the SD Card slot is more expensive.
Conclusion.
Durability - MotoG by far
Display - XperiaSP
Hardware/Games - XperiaSP by far
Software - MotoG (if you're not planing on putting custom ROM)
So, I bought my MotoG cause I'm a diehard Motorola fan and the phone was awesome, but it had only 8GB of storage (you can use only 5GB), so I decided to buy 2nd phone for media, etc. But since I got my XperiaSP (like 2 weeks ago) it became my main phone, I love it and I don't regret buying it a bit. I even plan to give my MotoG to my nephew when he starts school this year. That said they're both great devices and you will be more than happy with any of them, as long as you go with at less 16GB version.

I'm not really sure where you live but Moto G 16GB is 199€ in my country, while I bought my XperiaSP for 159€. Maybe you wanna check Amazon and see what's the shipping cost to your country.
But yeah, I will wait and buy XperiaSP aswell, even if it's a little bit more expensive.
Now the thing is, would it be a great idea to move from HTC One S to Motorola G? Is it an upgrade or downgrade? Especially when it comes to camera and internal.

I'd say that in terms of camera the 3 phones are equal. They do the job but it's nothing special. I can't make a difference between a picture taken with my MotoG and XperiaSP if I don't check the Megapixels. Outside you get really good pictures, while inside they are average. And from what I can see the HTC One S is in the exact same boat.
In terms of specs I don't think that MotoG will be much faster than HTC OneS, cause HTC still has good processor, while when it comes to GPU HTC has lower resolution, so it has to push less pixels with it's Adreno 225 against 720p with Adreno 305. I expect them to have close fps in games and benchmarks.
If you want an honest advice, here is what I'm going to do if I were you. I will go check for how much I can sell my HTC, if it covers half the price of my XperiaSP I will sell it and buy XperiaSP, just because it has better hardware (display, CPU, GPU) and it looks better than HTC OneS. If not just stick with the HTC.
Oh and battery. Motorola's battery is OK, but it can't last more than two days no matter what cause I use my phone ALOT. While XperiaSP I can handle two days of heavy use no problem, and I've seen people with 7 days of battery in stamina mode. When I go to sleep and put my Xperia in stamina mode it drops like 2% for 8 hours, it's insane!
So yeah. Basically do the math for yourself. See if your pocket can handle it and if "yes" go buy XperiaSP. The phone won't get much cheaper cause it's last year "mid-range" phone (it has the same hardware as Moto X which is last year "flagship" device like wtf?) which is better than this year "mid-range" phones.

I change ROMs every day,and am using the SP with joy.Sony is pooping on us ATM when it comes to the 4.4 update(i think we will get it tho),
but there is a 90% Xperia z2 port based on cm11,cm11,pa and pac for locked bootloaders,which is awesome.

Get your facts straight. Moto G runs on a Quad core processor while Xperia SP runs on a dual core processor. So Moto G isnt underpowered in any way, infact its much smoother and lag free compared to my xperia sp. I own both Moto G and Xperia SP and in my opinion, Moto G is a better deal. Although I would suggest OP to wait for the upcoming Moto G2.

Stop fanboying. I have both and yes, SP is a bit faster but you cant actually feel it. The difference is when you play games, SP is way better in games.
About the build quality, MotoG is miles ahead of XperiaSP, like not even close! It looks and feels durable and it actually is. It has water resistance and Gorilla Glass 3.

I myself also own a moto G and I understand where youre coming from but we sometimes have to look at all the other factors that come into play to make a decision. Heres my list;
MotoG;
-Durable for a longer period of time with resistance to almost everything most phones are vulnerable to such as water
-Running a decent processor for day to day use
-Battery life is a tad more than xsp
-Supported by Google
-Rom development may still continue despite hardware of MotoG
-Camera is on par at some points in time with the xsp
-Okish storage
Xperia SP
-Not as much protection
-Feels strong
-Better hardware specs
-Gaming oriented
-Decent battery life
-May get Rom development in the future due to specs
-Expandable storage
Thats all I think abt the xsp and moto g so yeah

SP has an old TFT screen and in the meanwhile Moto G has better ISP screen.
I think, Moto G is more supported and also plays smooth every strong games.

I currently use a Nexus 5 as a daily driver with my standard SIM. Recently I got an extra SIM from my mobile provider with additional 2GB of data, and seeing a need for a spare phone in case of a bad bay as well as maximising the extra data, thought of getting a Xperia T
I am able to get a set in very good condition, with full box and accessories at US$145. However, I would like to have some feedback on the community regarding the support and for lack of better word, "sustainability" of this device.
Mainly, I would like to know if there are any major bugs with no solution in sight in the custom ROMs, I don't wish to see the situation in the Tegra 3 devices where the lack of source code or reference causes ROM development to stall and remain stagnant.
Also, is there at least a few developers who are actively maintaining this device? No one likes a unsupported device after all.
Lastly, is the MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 still a decent chip with good source code such that it can still run ROMs into the future.
I understand that Xperia T won't get official KitKat, but as there will be other S4 powered devices that get, ROMs will eventually develop and become stable enough

I would recommend you to not get this phone to be honest. If you googled a bit then you probably know about the good things already so I'll tell you my negative experiences with it.
It overheats very fast when you browse on the net or are playing games. I in particular have a problem where wifi refuses to stay connected etc. The 13mp camera is terrible compared to a 8mp camera. Might be just me again but as a gamer I am used to 60 fps and I keep seeing "flickering" on the screen. The 1 gb of ram could be more. Some people complain that the back side which has some kind of film on it (sorry for my terrible english) which can quickly get torn off but you can eliminate that problem by using a case.
I'd say that you're better of by buying a tablet with sim support if you just want to browse or buying a phone that has a bigger screen, more ram and a better cpu.
In my case, i would suggest you to buy this phone. Im using this phone for a half year and its working perfectly. Its fast and camera is really good. Battery life is different, depends how you use the phone but for me it lasts day or day and half. In my opinion a great phone.
I'm using this phone since November 2012 and I'm personally very proud of this phone. It works reaaaally good and now after flashing OmniRom it got its second life. But now I would rather recommend you to buy something with bigger and replaceable battery especially when you plan to use this phone to browse the net using mobile data... it overheats pretty much and the battery lasts not for too long...
Hey guys I'm about to buy a refurbished Xperia Z from Amazon, but I'd like you guys to give me some advice. Do you recommend me? My main concerns are battery, display(they say blacks are grayish), camera and sound. I come from a galaxy s3 and lumia 640 XL(maybe someone has/had one of these smartphones and could give me some thoughts). I suppose the performance is great. I also noticed the device has some pretty good community and development(which the s3 lacks a bit)-which is also very important to me... am I right? Also, how does AOSP-based lollipop(may I dare and also say marshmallow ) run on it? Sorry guys for too many questions and also sorry for my english.

What can I say...
FIRST- if you're buying it for $100 or less maybe it is till a good deal, otherwise maybe it is better to see at other low-to-mid-range
SECOND- yes, the performance is good, even better with lollipop, screen looks better now (maybe sonybravia got better, maybe because lollipop has more white in it and the white is being displayed better), but anyway you have to UNDERCLOCK it in order to get a decent battery life
THIRD- battery life is very disappointing, you HAVE to underclock it and root it and greenify it to get any good battery life, unless you can charge it every 12 hours
FOURTH - the device is getting older and so the interest in this device (im talking about support from devs)
FIFTH - the phone gets hot, like really really hot when you're using it playing games (unless you underclock it), and since the back cover is only a adhesive line, when it gets hotter with the help off the Nfc antenna (which is set to push against the backcover) the backcover gets up and looses its waterproofness
SIX- the flaps - the damn flaps- they're everywhere - and you need to open them every-time you charge the phone, put on the headphones, remove the sim, remove the microSD, and they tend to get loose with time especially the one of the charger since you need to charge it frequently
NOW... that I told you about it downsides, its not a bad phone nowdays, it has a big and very beautiful display, connectivity is like the best i've ever tried, performance is pretty good (cpu + gpu ), camera performs really well - especially in macro, dev support for now is good.
Overall for someone who has it I think it can take another one or two years, but I personally would not buy it unless I find it for cheap or cannot buy a used phone. Personally I would look into a HTC M8 or a LG G3, maybe even used.

FIFTH - the phone gets hot, like really really hot when you're using it playing games (unless you underclock it), and since the back cover is only a adhesive line, when it gets hotter with the help off the Nfc antenna (which is set to push against the backcover) the backcover gets up and looses its waterproofness
SIX- the flaps - the damn flaps- they're everywhere - and you need to open them every-time you charge the phone, put on the headphones, remove the sim, remove the microSD, and they tend to get loose with time especially the one of the charger since you need to charge it frequently
NOW... that I told you about it downsides, its not a bad phone nowdays, it has a big and very beautiful display, connectivity is like the best i've ever tried, performance is pretty good (cpu + gpu ), camera performs really well - especially in macro, dev support for now is good.
Overall for someone who has it I think it can take another one or two years, but I personally would not buy it unless I find it for cheap or cannot buy a used phone. Personally I would look into a HTC M8 or a LG G3, maybe even used.

FIRST- it costs me about $160(in a very good condition) and I really can't pay any more than this for a smartphone. It's actually a pretty good deal for what it normally costs in my country. If you/somebody could recommend me a better phone for this price point(taking into consideration the development community)...
SECOND- good to know.
THIRD- well I have to say it sounds dissapointing. Underclocking...doesn't sound that good to me... although I'd have no problem using greenify. 12 hours with 4g on? What's the usage?(heavy...moderate...)
FOURTH- this is the first thing I look when looking for an android device. If it doesn't allow custom ROMs and doesn't have a decent community behind then I don't buy it.

Buying today XZ is stupid... seriously.
When I bought my XZ price of Z1compact was almost the same and it still is, its 20$-30$ difference for most of time(New XZ cost about 180$ z1c 200$)
And for that price you can buy WAY better phones, starting from Galaxy S4 to LG G series. And you want to stick to Sony you can get even z1 or used z2
As far as I love this phone I would not recommend it to anyone, battery is below average, camera is worst than my old Arc S, and those cover flaps are pain in the A##
This is best example of phone that look good, but those small bugs in everyday usage make it annoying to use...
And yes I still use it :] Because after using new phones... I found out that most of them are the same: average battery, and looots of small bugs that make them annoying after some time. So I decide to change phones once per 3-4 years...

For that price NO! Performance with LP is good, camera not so good even with LP. Didnt have issues with overheating, connectivity is good. Screen and colors looks pretty nice for me.

Well,
ONE - if you want a phone with good Dev community support and with that budget you'll have to take a look at ex-flagship devices, like HTC One M7 (this one remains IMHO one of the best devices ever), LG G2(very good camera from what I've been told, and powerful cpu), Samsung Galaxy S4(well because it is a Samsung and everybody has one so many developers...)
THREE - Underclock means you lower the frequency of the Cpu (example. it goes from 1.5 Ghz quad-core to 1.1 Ghz quad-core), I like more uncerclock than greenify, and underclocking at 1.1 Ghz in my opinion gives the best performance/battery life/heat ratio. Usage is normal, 1 hour browsing; 1 hour listening to songs (in 3g, even when 4g is available I disable it); 1 hour 9gag and gets at evening with 30-35%...
FOUR - many custom roms for now, and quality is really good, im using currently the 5.1.1 modified and runs pretty good.
FIVE- when you underclock (which I recommend!) you give your device better battery life but also it heats less. If you don't mind the waterproofness then it's better because I wouldn't call Waterproof a really thin bezel of adhesive (They're crazy !!!)
SIX- yeah, they're annoying but anyway you can live with that, and design is really good and would be a shame if you removed them.
So my list woud be;
1.Htc One m7
2.Lg g2
3.Samsung S4 or Xperia Z

Well it seems the camera is not that good as I thought. Do you think moto g 2/3 has better camera? Although they only have 1GB or RAM.

As an XZ owner i would definitely recommend you to go with Moto G2/3. Beside better camera there will be MM support for both the 2gen and 3gen Moto, while not for XZ.

It seems the decision is getting harder and harder, although I already bought it because I don't wanna loose the deal. It's not available anymore at this price after buying it. I'm waiting for it to arrive in about two days I'll test it and if it doesn't satisfy me I'll return it.
ONE - Those devices are about $50 more expensive.
THREE - Maybe underclock could do the job, but will it still run smooth at lets say 1.2ghz? Anyway I think for the usage you described the battery doesn't sound that bad.
FOUR - Yeah, I'm looking at the hacking section and I'm stunned
FIVE - well, I'll happily underclock it if it doesn't affect performance too much. Maybe setting to the normal clock when gaming. And for the waterproofness thing... I'm shocked Anyway... I don't mind.
SIX - I guess...
From those devices you mentioned the only one I can afford is the Xperia Z. I really can't pay more than that for a device.
So, do you think I should buy a low end device from this or last year like the moto g 2014? I'm scared of the 1GB of RAM.
I live in Spain and price is a bit high here in Europe. I can buy from Amazon.es/fr/de/it... but I think I only have two options: buy a low-end device with no support from community or an exflagship device with support like the Xperia Z. I also think having 2GB of RAM is important right? I can't spend more than 150€/$160... ad I guess I'm asking too much from a device for this price. I really appreciate your help.

It all depends of usage but i wouldn't worry about it so much. Motorola comes with almost pure Android.

Moto G (2nd generation) doesn't stand a chance to Xperia Z!
XZ has better specs, better screen, better CPU, more Ram, more internal memory ecc.
Yes, the Moto G (2nd generation) is being updated to Marshmallow but really with all the support from the Dev's we can still get unofficial AOSP Marshmallow Roms.
PS.: one more thing, I currently live in Italy and in big cities it is really easy to find used phones from people that sell them at a local website. I've been checking the prices for some time because I wanted to get a better phone and phones like the LG G3 go as low as 200 euro. Htc One M7 can be found for 150 euro in really good condition, one thing is that you don't have warranty, only if they give you the bill of the phone, then it is as you had bought it(be careful though not giving you a printed bill from the internet.) if you can live with that, that would get you a really good phone with low money.

Yeah, XZ specs are really impressive for me, but the problems mentioned worry me. The screen seems a bit poor to me from what I read. Maybe the Moto G has a better screen and battery(camera also? I doubt it). Anyway... the XZ is on its way and I can't wait to test it!!!
The biggest problem I have with buying a used phone from people is, aside from the warranty- which is also important, the fact that I can't return it if it doesn't satisfy me. Thank God for Amazon!! lol :victory:

It's a great phone and most impressive is SD 835 in it but today I found a deal on my local used market for 250$. He'll, I want to buy it but I don't know why it's so cheap. I am getting he'll of a deal here but is it any good?
I read comments on Amazon and many said it's having a heating problem. I want to buy a good phone for gaming as my Moto Z Play couldn't able to handle pubg very well.
One more thing is that the xda community had igoned Nokia 8, it doesn't have a single official custom ROM or recovery. Phone is good but all this things keeping me from not buying it. I want to know is it any good to buy a used one for 250$?
XDA community hasn't ignored it so much as Nokia/HMD haven't allowed the bootloader to be unlocked
The phone's principal other flaw is that the camera isn't great. Both the stock camera software (post processing, features) and the sensor aren't up to the quality you would expect of a 2017 flagship or even (for the most part) the Galaxy S6 I upgraded from. Until now running modded Google cam has allievated the software side, and there's an update rolling out from Friday that will add camera functionality and hopefully improve the processing and the use of the monochrome sensor. I wouldn't expect miracles though.
Other than those points this is a solid phone. The screen is a nice IPS that does good blacks, accurate colours and is capable of very high brightness. There is no heating problem and in fact this is the coolest phone I've ever used, it's a challenge to make this thing heat up. Software is as close to stock you'll get on a non-Google device. SnapDragon 835 blasts through anything you might want to do. Headphone jack seems to supply a lot of power and music sounds clean and clear. Nokia has been good with updates thus far, releasing OS and security updates better than any non-Google phone afaik.
I also found a great deal for a Nokia 8 6gb ram 128gb internal for 250$. Still thinking if i should give up my Moto Z Play for this Nokia
if quality(which can be improved with a new app) of photos is not your top priority, then you should definitely buy this one.

Nothing went wrong, it was a loss leader to get the Nokia brand up and running and noticed again.
Best phone i have owned apart from the camera in low light but the new camera app may help with that.
It's a great phone for gaming...I play pubg mobile on the maximum settings with extreme FPS settings and it's silky smooth... It does warm up a little but less then any other phone I've had while gaming, the one and only issue I have with this phone is that the power button has a little bit of rattle/play and that drives my OCD crazy.

I couldn't decide too, but i think i need to give up my Moto Z Play for PUBG. And SD835 is future proof too. I don't use camera that much so it's not an issue for me, i think it should be a good deal.

Thanks bro, i wanted to know how PUBG runs on Nokia 8, i am gonna buy it. Only thing thats i'm scared of is Custom ROMs. I like to flash different ROMs. Man, i need to choose between Customization and Gaming.

Wow, even bootloader is not possible to unlock on the phone. I am scared that I'd be bored after some time of using it. But, i think the most important thing for me would be gaming than flashing custom ROMs. I'd be buying it soon.
