Hi All
I had my M7 HTC One rooted with s-off running a GPE from mike1976 and all was good with the world.
I'm getting a new phone so am passing this to my mum and decided it would be better for her with everything stock so that she can get updates.
Anyway, I am having huge issues. The phone is back to stock running 4.3 but I cannot run the update as I get the variant system version issue.
I used a Guru Reset rom for the M7, although I can't remember exactly which one. However, I made sure it was for the correct CID and MID.
Getvar gives me this:
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.44.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 4A.13.3231.27
(bootloader) version-cpld: None

(bootloader) modelid: PN0710000

(bootloader) battery-voltage: 4287mV
(bootloader) partition-layout: Generic
(bootloader) security: on
(bootloader) build-mode: SHIP
(bootloader) boot-mode: FASTBOOT
I can see the it's not showing any information for version-main. Any ideas why this would be?
Can anyone offer any advice on how I can try to resolved this?
Many thanks

Variant version error is caused by a mismatch between the OS version and the MID, you'll have to s-off the phone again and change the MID to match the OS or change the OS to match the MID.
What is the OS version?
edit:
And your CID is incorrect, it should be HTC__001 not htc__001
Thanks, I'll change the CID.
The OS is 3.62.401.1.

OS is 3.62.401.1 but bootloader is 1.44 which means your OS and your firmware version doesn't match together.
Are you sure you have flashed the .401 version that is made for PN0710000 and not that one for PN0711000?
What method did you used to get back to stock? It looks like your phone is not really stock... Your hboot should be 1.55 on that version.
I think you should s-off the phone again, and run a full ruu (1.28.401.7) with PN0710000 and HTC__001
then you'll be able to apply ota updates from 1.28.401.7 to 6.09.401.5
Really appreciate your help. I'll try it when i get home.

As you are not S-off, this will be difficult. Especially as the 2.24.401.1 RUU hasn't been leaked yet (as far as I'm aware). So at the moment, you'll be stuck. If you had s-off'd your device before you updated, you'd have more luck as the lower RUU's would run properly with no errors, and the incompatible device issues.
In short, you cannot downgrade software version/Hboot when S-ON

Or maybe not rooted nandroid backup.
Thanks in advance.

It looks like you can use the X.XX.401.X RUU for you CID. You can find one here. Just make sure that you get the same or higher RUU for your ROM version.

Before you flash a different hboot, take a look at Guru Stock Rom Resets first. There is one for your version number, I don't know what type of checking it does but you might have to change your MID first. You can use this [Tool] MID change without ENG HBOOT.

Hi guys,
Bought a refurbished HTC one on Aliexpress and have a few queries.
It was advertised as being a european model (64gb, LTE) and it runs European software [ro.build.fingerprint]: htc/htc_europe/m7:4.4.3........] however I am confused with the mid.
The back of my phone states Model: PN07100
I couldnt get OTA updates originally and found I had superCID of 11111111. I then changed this several times and found that HTC__001 allowed me to get OTA.
The OTA will download but won't install as it detects my device is modified even though I haven't modified anything but the CID number. Perhaps the previous owner modified it in some way..

Using the CID getter apk, i have two values which I am not sure about:
[ro.aa.modelid]: [PN0710000]
[RO.MID]: [PN0712000]
One last piece of information is that after doing a warranty check, it states device was sold to [email protected] and it's modelid is [PN0712000]
Very confusing...
I want to get software updates as sound during calls is not working after many attempts to fix this.
I like to upgrade to stock lollipop... Can I do this easily by using an RUU?

You will need to change your MID to the International MID: PN0710000.
The OTA looks for both the MID and CID before it will execute.
You can use this tool to change your MID.
Once you get your MID changed you can go to this site and find the RUU that matches your CID and MID.
Or attempt to download the OTA again.
Okay thank you for your help

If the error you are getting is "Variant System Version" then its definitively because of the wrong MID. X.XX.401.X version is MID PN0710000 and CID HTC__001.
Your Hboot version doesn't match your firmware version. When on 6.09.401.5 your hboot should be 1.57 not 1.44. Not sure if the OTA update will like that. Would recommend to change your MID with the tool posted above, then flash the 7.19.401.2 Firmware and finally the 7.19.401.2 RUU
Alray your method did the trick - Had issues trying to flash the RUU file but then as soon as i updated the firmware, it accepted the RUU.
Really appreciate the help guys

Yep, flashing the firmware before the RUU wasn't optional. To be able to flash a 7.xx ruu you need 4 things:
Firmware must be at least 6.xx --> ok
CID must match --> ok HTC__001
MID must match --> fixed to PN0710000
HBoot must be at least 1.57 --> That's why you need to flash the firmware first, to update your hboot to 1.57, you were on 1.44...
So a few days ago, i received an HTC One M7 from my dad. Having rooted and played around with other devices before, I immediately looked up all the guides and necessities to get this thing up and running. It was running Lollipop when i got it, so that means its running HBOOT 1.61.0000. After digging around some more, I learned that It isnt possible to s-off with this version of bootloader. And to go around this, I have to downgrade with a RUU. Now here's my real problem, I cant find a RUU compatible with my CID. You can stop looking for RUUs because you need to be s-off in order to downgrade h-boot. You can s-off your phone with sunshine, but that costs 25$

What about the Guru Reset Roms/Tools? I tried installing a 4.3 Asia WWE guru rom and HBOOT was still the same. If I go down to 4.1.? will it downgrade? I would just like to know if there's anything else before I lay down USD$25 on sunshine.

As I said before - you can't downgrade h-boot with s-on. Sunshine is the only way to s-off your phone. OK, there is a gold card option, but that is even more expensive than sunshine, and it's complicated to do
