I'm done with the Dot View Case for good. - One (M8) Accessories

I keep my phone extremely clean all the time. Since I got my phone on launch, I've always had a case of some sort on it. Usually, I always revert back to using the Dot View Case. But today, I was wiping what I thought was a smudge on my screen and discovered that the magnet on the front of the Dot View Case behind the HTC logo had etched a mork into my screen. I am so upset at this fact that an HTC branded product would cause this. Has this happen to anyone else and is there anything I can do about it? Even through HTC? I live in Canada and am a Rogers customer. If that helps. But either way, the Dot View Case is done for me.

send it to me ;p

Well, I just decide to get mine once I saw that the prices had dropped to $27 mark on Amazon. I see that the magnet is in front of a thin plastic dotted sheath, so was not really expecting what happened in your case. Did you happen to press down on the front of the case really hard, like for example in your hip pocket or a heavy bag sitting on your lap with the phone in front jeans pocket?

The Dot view case is cheaply made. it should not even be considered a protective case at all. It is purely for looks. dont plan on gettin one unless you can keep your phone in a safe place all day without dropping it ever. Or putting any pressure on the front flap everyday in your pocket. The corners of my rubber are all peeling off revealing thin metal frame. ~ 6months with the DOT view case.

My dot case is fine. I've dropped it a few times and it's held up. Now that the op has mentioned that the magnet leaves a mark it has so indeed. I haven't noticed it until now!

Luckily I use a extreme guard wet apply screen protector with my dot view case, so the magnet only marks the protector.
But can confirm that this does indeed happen.

Don't have any issues with mine...I guess HTC can't please everyone...

[Q] How do you protect your nexus? Case, pouch, invisible shield, nothing

Just was wondering what people have been using to protect their N1s now that its been out for a while, and how has it held up. I like the look of the N1 on its own without cases, and was thinking of using the little pouch that came with the box with no other case. Is this a wise move?
I have a case on my phone and an anti-glare screen protector (don't get anti glare it ruins the screen's look and colors) the reason I don't use the pouch is it gets annoying to take the phone out of my pocket with the pouch on then have to remove the phone from the pouch.

The slip case that came with the phone
Seidio Innocase works for me. See the XDA Nexus acessories section...
I've got an Otterbox Commuter series case that I use when I'm on "business" trips or at other times that my phone is likely to be handled roughly. That case is no joke. Actually, I would probably use that case all the time if I didn't use my car dock every time I drive. It takes a bit of time to pull the phone out of the case several times a day. I generally just use the slip case that came with the phone. Does a good job of fighting off scratches, and is still easy to remove so I can install the phone in a dock in just a moment.
Just a screen protector, I have used cases/covers etc, and always end up coming back to just nothing I like the slim feeling
I like the slim look also, thats why i think im going to stick with the little android pouch that came in the box. Just hope it doesnt cause any black marks on the sides or anything. Previous owner of the nexus said he never used a case but made sure nothing else was in his pocket and the phone looks brand new with no marks anywhere.
On one of my other N1s there are some dust particles under the screen on the bottom left. 1 of them is big enough to look like a dead pixel when the screen is on, the rest are not noticeable. Anyone have a easy fix to get rid of the dust? That one particle is starting to annoy me.
Ever since I lost the neoprene case, I have been going commando.
Case-Mate "Tough Case" and the screen protector that came with it.
Transparent polycarb hard-case from eBay. Beautiful and strong, but no docking possible.
Stealth guard and there pouch that came with it

I do similar: when I'm traveling, I put the N1 in my Otterbox Commuter case and enable the PIN the lock. Otherwise, no case and no PIN.
A gel skin for me.
I put a screen protector on it to cut down on sweaty fingerprints during the summer, otherwise nothing. I've had mine since it came out for ATT (march?) and it's still perfect. Just keep keys and change in the other pocket.
i'm using a silicone slip on protector. i'm too scare i'll drop it without it otherwise i would go commando but i have nerve damage in my right hand so my control over parts of my hand are sub par compared to normal people
my ulnar nerve was severed by glass and repaired but i still do not have full function of the minor muscles in my hand and only have partial feeling in the pinky/ring finger and that side of my hand so thicker phones are more comfortable in my hand and the super rubber grip around the whole thing makes it very hard if not impossible for it to slip out of my hand.

I use BestSkinsEver (for a fraction of the cost of an InvisibleShield) protection and a horizontal leather Case Logic pouch... I used to have a silicon protector but it was a pain in the butt because it collects dust and lint like crazy!

Matte battery cover?

Hi guys,
I've seen the DIY project which is a pretty decent looking alternative but I was wondering if anyone has seen an actual Matte Battery Door yet? It'd be cool to have one like the Epic 4G's which still said Google on the back. (I think the Google looks oddly classy )
My searches have come up kinda empty so thought I'd ask.
Mini rant.... WHY?! WHY???! Is the back cover so prone to scratches.. it been only a week and a half or so and already I've seen scratches developing, in fact another happened just today.. it's really the one and only thing I don't like about it.. not sure what they were thinking..
Well if anybody has seen alternatives please let me know!
Thanks!
There is the Invisible shield Dry which is a matte back protector for it. It looks pretty sleek.

you can get the invisibleshield dry from any of the sprint stores-- it's all they carry.
if you get the invisibleshield from ZAGG, they send the "wet" version, which is the cover everyone's used to.
the dry version is matte, and thinner, and doesn't use spray/sponge/liquid. it's not as "tacky" or sticky as the wet version, and you can still clearly see the google/samsung logo.
just be real sure to follow the instructions, squeegee from the center out, and give it a couple of days to fully cure. i saw a bunch of micro bubbles and what look like flaws after applications, and it looked like the dry shield didn't fully seal around the tiny dots on the cover, but after a couple of days it was perfectly sealed in. don't squeegee too hard, especially around the curves. it'll stick, and give it a day or two.
pretty happy with it, and it comes with the regular clear/tacky/sticky front shield, too, which is also applied dry. i found the squeegee to be a bit too stiff, and it's easy to dent and stretch the shield when squeegeeing it out.
ZAGG says to keep the device off, cuz the heat or something will affect curing. i just left mine on after application, and everything is perfect. there's orange peel, but it's minimal. no problems with touch sensitivity, and if anything i think it's better because fingerprints and oil don't show up.
i wonder if it's even worth shielding the front, though. i have an old blackberry that had nothing on it, and the screen i think is plastic, and i treated it like crap. no scratches.
but yeah, just go to a sprint store. they have em. best buy around here only sells the front shield. i prefer the dry matte back because it's thinner, and still does a good job.
fyi: ZAGG's guarantee and return policy are top notch. registering on their site is simple, and they'll ship out a replacement pretty quickly, and you just mail back your old shield as proof. they don't care what condition it's in. before i just ripped off an old shield and slapped it on a piece of paper.

So the Nexus S still doesn't have any third party back covers or battery doors? I can't stand the shiny plastic back. All I see on ebay are oem battery doors that are the same thing. Don't want to use a sticker/shield or dip.

Correct.
The white version of the Nexus S actually has a very nice textured back on it. I wanted the white color to begin with but after seeing (and feeling) the difference between the backplate on the black version versus the white version, I much prefer the white one. The black one has no grip to it and, like the OP said, it scratches way too easily.
Yeah I thought about the zagg body shield but they unfortunately only had the screen. I decided to grab the wet one instead and I've never had better luck applying a screen protector.. heh the "wetness" really makes it easy to get the bubbles out and it cures awesome.
As for the battery cover.. it's already got a few scratches, but on top of that in the lower left corner it doesn't seem to snap in very securely, even in general use when tapping on the lower left part of the phone you can feel the battery door.. "click" a little bit as if its not latched properly, it makes a audible click sound as well.
I resolved this issue by putting a very thin strip of scotch tape on the inside of the door along the edge which produces just enough pressure to keep the clicking from happening and it feels more secure. (No you can't see it )
SO I'll probably just buy a new battery door eventually and use a body shield.. hopefully the new one will latch a bit more securely as well. It's not a big big deal, and the DIY fix by me is definitely just me nitpicking the tiny click feeling but still.. I think Samsung makes good products most of the time but they really should step up the build quality a little bit.
Thanks for the suggestions though guys
Actually I think I'm going to try the plasti dip on the existing cover to.. I could see that helping the latch as well because it would be just the tiniest bit thicker it would seem.

Does anyone else obsess over tiny imperfections?

When it comes to expensive new technology I tend to obsess over the tiniest imperfection. The miniscule hairline scratch on an otherwise flawless screen. That single piece of dust that always manages to get under your screen protector despite using a hazmat clean room to install it. That little nick on the metal edge. All of this drives me nuts. Once it's there my shiny new tablet is no longer pristine and perfect. It's like the first ding on your new BMW. After that it just isn't the same.
Well today I traded my new white 10.5 book cover, which was flawless except that I decided I didn't like white for a case, for a new titanium cover. Now I'm one of these guys that can choose from 10 cases and I'll ALWAYS pick the one with the defect. I never fails. Anyway loving the case, get it home and put it on. Only then do I notice that there is the equivalent of a screen protector dust particle trapped under the skin on the front. One tiny little raised dot in the middle of an otherwise perfect case. Sigh, and now I must obsess. I will endure it for a day or two then finally return it for a PERFECT one. I know me. Probably why BestBuy has wanted posters of me on their front door .
Why do I even care? Anyone else like this?

My poster at BB is for always looking out for returns so I can get something I want cheaper. They are ready to crown me "king". So long as what was returned is in more than acceptable shape and does not deter from the product's use, why not.
BTW, which BB are you returning it to?

haha this level of obsession reminds me of my x-men comic collection back in high school and it was costly for someone who has to keep within his allowance
I spent a good hour applying my screen protector. I cannot accept any dust, bubbles, etc. I think the prep time takes longer that the actual preparation. I turn the shower on full hot and steam up the bathroom. After its good and foggy in there I turn the water off and close the door. The steam seems to take the dust out of the air. After about 15 minutes, I will go in and carefully apply the protector. There is good lighting in there so I can see anything that gets trapped under the protector. Works pretty well for me as I no longer go through several protectors trying to get it just right. I do obsess over the smallest imperfection. Call it OCD, being anal, or whatever. I just can't enjoy something as well if I know there's a flaw. Having said that, I absolutely happy with my titanium Tab S 10.5 and book cover so far. :fingers-crossed:

Best way to apply a screen protector to a large device is by placing the protector on the screen in the proper position then apply a strip of masking tape to the left edge attaching it to the tablet. Then once all dust is cleared, lift the protector up and peel away the backing as you let the hinge hold it steady. Watch for any little dust particle as you slowly apply the protector and use another piece of tape to remove them. Once applied just remove the tape hinge. Perfect placement, no dust .

Anyone going naked....what are the results?

Just curious as I am using the Best Buy screen protector film and just can't stand the feel of the sharp edges etc so I want to remove it. Anyone gone a while without coverage and if so, any major scratches?
Thanks in advance
Hi @imapfsr,
using my device without a screen protector since 22/12/2016 and have no scrates
Everything should be fine if you use an protective cover for the phone.
I got an inch-long scratch on the screen where usually my right thumb roams around while it's been only a month I got this phone.
Thanks for your input....I was hoping for all positive results but I think Im still going to chance it. I do have a nice lined sleeve so I should be ok. It really is amazing how good this screen looks when you dont have anything on it so Im going to enjoy it instead of obsessing over it and keeping it mint for the next user when I sell it.
have you seen the scratch test videos on youtube for this phone? this phone is as scratch resistant as any other flashship device. i honestly have no idea what people could be doing to scratch this phone. i carry it with my keys in my pocket with zero worry about it scratching after seeing the test. i really don't know how you could scratch it unless you did it intentionally.
I occasionally use the case it came with but 90% of the time this thing is in it's Birthday suite, not a single scratch or mark on it. The Ceramic is such a gorgeous material and pretty much scratch proof! The glass used for the screen is also pretty robust. I wouldn't worry about this thing scratching... drops are what you should be afraid of!
Same here ...ive had rhis since November, I actually hate the leather case and opted for a slim transparent case from China which shows off the body...I tried to go completely naked but this phone is just waaaaay to slippery, dont have a screen protector...and wont put one one....not a single scratch...( Fingers crossed)
Most things wont scratch it, unless its "harder" than the material of the phone.
Watch out for things like SAND! and GLITTER!
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am full on nude now...lots of hand cream to keep the phone from slipping out of my hands...no scratches on the front but surprise how quickly the ceramic back has developed tiny scratches but it still feels to good for any kind of wrap or skin.
Darn glitter ?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0..._SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=xiaomi+mimix+case also have a look at case fanatic they have a few different ones ive ordered some but they haven't arrived yet.
Mine is still mint. Leather case has never touched it. I am overly careful and don't even leave it on most tables and such unless there is a soft tissue, tablecloth or anything covering the surface. That can sort of be crippling for most people. Therefore it's mostly in a pocket clean of debris. I just can't stand cases. I always opt for custom skins for the back so I can put it down everywhere. Chances of finding someone making custom skins for this device must be slim. No luck yet. May have to buy one of those ready made ones. Seen a carbon type, but seems like the choices are few. Please hit me up if anyone else are looking and finds anyone that offers custom ones. Would be much appreciated.
Maybe I'll make my own, idk.
So I am two or three weeks in with no protection, front or back, and I hate to say it but the back of my phone is scratched up pretty bad. I use a sleeve to carry it around and I'm not sure if that is what is causing it. Just curious if anyone else has had bad scratching our if it's just me.
No screen protector, no casing, no nothing. Had it since december 19th. No scratches, still pristine.
It's forbidden where I live, unfortunately.
What is forbidden? Going naked?
I never use the film screen protectors, presently [as with all my past phones] using the provided leather case [will eventually go to a flip cover case - always have them so comfortable with them].
I prefer carrying my phone naked. Especially, when it's a nice looking phone. You just have to be conscious of having your phone and grip it tight while holding it as opposed to casually holding it in a relaxed manner. Nothing will happen to it if you consciously take care of it. At best, put it in your back pocket while walking and not using it, but don't forget it's there
i have been using this naked since i purchased in September 17. Only issue is ceramic is very slippery, so use side sticker atleast to increase grip.
something like this https://www.amazon.com/Decalrus-Pro...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2PK292A230JGWCC1JQTT

It's made from butter. Joking aside I remember my note 8 when brand new after day two in a case there was a scratch on the back. Ever since that moment , I've used back film protection as well. It just takes a grand of sand to get lodged inside the case to do a lot of damage.
Also what case ? Some cases are better at trapping the grain of sand and preventing it from moving around than others.

Spigen la manon.
Made of chocolate.
Yeaup small particles can get sandwiched in the case but it seems odd it would be a long scratch if that was the case.
That's why I either do a clear slick wraps or throw on a debrand.
Phones in cases got those a lot easier than naked. Small debriefs enters the case and starts to scratch the sides/back.
Yeah.. Tell me a phone with glass back and a Case on not getting hairline scratches and dotted "spots" on the back !
Being cautious and have been using plastic protectors there since "glass era".
This is why I purchased a case AND DBrand skin for it. All my phones have gotten scratches on the back from dust and grit getting under the case. Trying real hard to keep this one pristine.
That is why I like Samsung OEM cases for the N9. They line the inside of them with material to decrease the chance of these blunders.

Something softer than sand it appears.
my note 8 still is scratch free after riding in a UAG case since launch...hoping to get my Note 9 tomorrow or Thursday...just couldn't bring myself to pay 1250 at launch this year after having new Note every year since GN3 on launch day or before with early shipping. Managed to acquire one on swappa for $850(512GB) so it was worth the wait if it's as described
are these glass backs or some poly type plastic? I wonder whether a session with poly watch might help.

Glass back. A good was or oleophobic coating might help with some scratches. Definitely not going to help with sand getting in between case and phone though.

Yea, but I had a HTC 10 before, full metal. Never had a rear glass
Sand/dust will always cause scratches on glass. Only way around it is to put a protective skin on the back. Even if it's a tight case, the device will shift and particles can still move around between device and case.
There's probably no way to fix the scratches once their occur because its happening to the glass, not a layer of protection onto of it like paint is on a car. No matter what clear liquid you put on their to dry, it will always show the scratch/crack as light will refract at multiple angles, causing you to see the scratches/crack.
Also the finger print sensor is very eazy to scratch
Ironically when I got my Note 9 I left the plastic attached to the back of the phone from the factory before I installed a case on it . I learned this from my S8+ which also got similar scratches . My thought process is this , I was putting it in a case anyways and while the case itself should protect it . I decided to leave the plastic backing on the phone in place anyways . Not like I was going to see it under the case anyways .
