I have yet to find a ROM where the sound doesn't lag the video on the Netflix app. Even using the custom kernels makes no difference.
If I go back to the stock Nook HD+ ROM, there's no audio lag at all.
Really frustrating as I'd love to run a custom ROM but primarily use the Nook HD+ for surfing the web, youtube and Netflix.
All three Nook HD+ I've had have the same issue so it's not an issue with a specific device.
Any suggestions?

I have used CyanogenMod (now running 11.2 M8) for over a year with no such audio issues.
I've been running verygreen's CM 10.1 almost a year now and ran netflix a bunch
of times, with no problems.
brand new to this... just installed CM 11 latest nightly build for the first time on the Nook HD+. All seems fine, except I notice this problem too. Audio lags in Netflix. Bummer.
Well, audio can lag over cable TV as well as other stuff. If anyone could ever truly solve the problem because they can't.
Maybe background service(s) from other app(s) doing something funky as they can run during the video (for instance email can still be received during playback). You didn't say if it was a fresh new install with the least amount of installed apps possible (most controlled environment possible) . Bn rom unless rooted (I guess) wouldn't have access to all the same apps that could be installed.
There could be other differences as well that you haven't taken into account. Is the stream running at the same quality? Are all the nook apps (including internal like gapps) fully updated on the bn rom? It could be that the newer versions are more taxing on the hardware. Etc. All theoretical but what else is there with no concrete answer.

I just picked up a Nook and rooted it immediately so I could watch video on it. Right now I am just running Stock 1.1. I have some video files in .AVI format that I want to watch on it, but while the video is pretty smooth, the sound is totally out of sync by 1-3 seconds it seems.
I have tried RockPlayer which trashes the video and still has the sync issue. Using Software decode mode as the Hardware mode doesn't work.
Vitalplayer's video (again software) is virtually perfect, but the audio is still out of sync.
Mvideoplayer doesn't work at all, probably due to no codecs being installed on the device.
So my question is this: Is there a way to fix it? Reading through ROM threads it seems that none of them really have video playing nailed down. CM7 says to use Rockplayer as a workaround (uses FFMpeg), but if it doesn't even work on stock, what are the chances it will work in that?
Any ideas?
Thanks
I have the same problem.
I haven't tried this on 1.1, but on 1.0.1 I ran the videos through Handbrake using some of the settings suggested in the thread below and that seemed to help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894165
Was hoping that performance with Rockplayer would be good enough to not have to do that. I have the settings for HB and will try them tonight.
Now if CM7 could just get DSP and codecs this might be a non-issue.

I use Handbrake and use the ipod touch setting. It works great - sound is in sync with video. NC 1.1 rooted with Auto-nooter 3.0.0
Thanks for the help everyone. Using the Handbrake settings that I was pointed at was the perfect solution. Ran a Fringe episode through and watched it on the train this morning.
Everything perfectly in sync.
Thanks again.
Alternative Approach
I am using a dual boot. The standard video player on the NookColor works very well.
Hi i bought my DS7 a while ago and I upgraded it to HC.
And I've noticed that under HC the video playback in internet browser i really choppy it used to be like that on Froyo as well but on HC it's even worse.
Sometimes video just stop for about 5-7 seconds and just skip forward after a while. The sound is fine.
I'm watching a normal quality 360p/480p straight from the webiste.
While I'm using YouTube app everything is fine even in high res videos.
Everything is smooth.
What may cause it ? Any ideas ?
My internet connection is 14Mb/s.
And I always connect via wi-fi cause I've got the wi-fi only model.
I really like that tablet but the choppy video playback is killing me.
And I don't want to sell it just because of that.
What websites are you watching off of?
Flash on android can accelerate some types of video, but not all.
I dont have any issues streaming 480p / h264(avc)+aac to my s7.
I would assume it could take up to 1080i/p if it wasnt for the fact the screen cant display it at all IF the video is in a format that can be accelerated.
Youtube switched over to h264 a while back as the iphones couldnt render vp6(or whatever it was) at all; so all but the oldest, unupdated videos are h264 which is accelerated.
Other websites can use whatever codec their flash video player allows, which potentially means you're watching a video in a codec that isnt accelerated on android = choppy even at low res.
I'm reading lots of websites.
Mostly www.gamezilla.pl, www.ppe.pl, www.gadżetomania.pl, www.ps3site.pl
These are polish websites about games and gadgets.
Could anyone try them on yours DS7 ?
I hate iPad and other 9/10 inch tablets but when I go to the mall and I try one of them with my favourite websites and it's always so super smooth I think more and more about buying one and selling my precious DS7 ...
If it's Android's fault or tegra's 2 then all I can do really is to buy a new tablet ;/
Can you provide a specific example?
I opened a random video and it works fine, it's also 720p
http://gamezilla.komputerswiat.pl/filmy/2011/39/guild-wars-2
Generally if it doesnt work on android it wont work on ios either as android supports more stuff (mainly via flash, non flash is equal)
Bummer ... Maybe I've got to much trash on my device.
I'll try to reset the whole thing to factory settings and I'll try it on fresh and clean setup. If that won't help then I'll look arround for different device I guess.
Thanks for trying anyway
If you can find a working example odds are it wont work on any tablet.
If that's the case only thing you can really do is yell at the website because they're using codecs that arnt favored by any platform (pcs can get-by by brute forcing their way though)
Let me see.
I watched this news today and it was really choppy all 3 YT videos :
http://www.ppe.pl/news-12500-PlayStation_Vita_wyladowalo_w_Japonii.html
Hmm strange, it's slightly choppy if you watch though the miniplayer.
But if you click the youtube button it loads and is completely smooth, so it's not the video itself. There's a possibility it's the miniplayer not behaving.
The youtube site player is a HTML5 one i believe, so it might either be flash or the player itself that's the issue. In this one example i'd say to just watch it though youtube, but that's not applicable on other sites if they're also giving issue.
From what I know if this happened on ios you simply end up with no video at all if it doesnt have the HTML5 version available. Assuming you dont watch it though the youtube app (which would still be recommeneded for both platforms if possible)
The reason i like to watch straight from the webiste is that its much more easy, less taping etc.
Just one tap and after watching I can carry on reading the news.
Thanks for help.
Have you tried Dolphin Hd browser. I stopped using the stock ds7 browser for the same reason

Hello,
I installed the CM build from Hashcode a few months ago. However, when trying to watch a movie (format / codec doesn't matter), the sound stops playing after around 1 or 2 minutes when using a third party player (VLC).
The pre-installed stock one works fine, any other player I tried is having these issues (and I tried a lot).
This is a little annoying as the stock player is very limited in formats. Does anyone have similar issues or a fix for this?
My Gtab works great with CM 10.1 and enjoying the 4.2.2 It gave life again to this tablet. I downloaded/installed xbmc 12.2 but every time I try to start it it crashes. It never worked!
Any one aware of such problem? I tried to uninstall and install, clear data and cache of the app but in vain.
I would love to get it to work. It works on my 4.1 devices (Galaxy S3 and Google TV device).

Two Points...
One: How can you boast of new life, when 4.2.2 breaks Bluetooth, and the Front Camera, as well as the Wired Headset Button?
Two: XBMC 12 isn't really fixed on Android yet. (i.e. Hardware Acceleration), XBMC 13 (Gotham), addresses those issues, but being in Alpha its still quite unstable... Till its not. Sadly we just have to wait until Gotham gets released. My guess would be sometime in April.

well compare to how slow it was on GB I am so happy with the JB version. I don't use bluetooth on my Gtab, it's mostly used for surfing the web, watching tv/movies, and social media.
As far as XBMC, I am using it on my Galaxy S3 and it's working with few issues, but at least it starts up and run. I read many posts of other users who have XBMC running on their GTab and I was wondering what am I missing. It crashes right away, never makes it to the user interface!
Dear all,
Lately I experience a lot of crashes/problems playing video.
I'm using a s3 mini, with a quite up-to-date CM11 custom ROM. It's rooted, and in general it works rather smooth. The only thing, to maintain an acceptable battery life, I use greenify and Deep Sleep Battery Pro + some tasker stuff to finetune what I believe is necessary to run (or not) while sleeping of when display is off. (like: airplane mode at night, no wifi when I'm not at home).
My problems occur using MX Player as a video player.
(1) SHOULD H/W+ decoder work with CM11 on i8910?
Using H/W+ decoder for sure crashes MX Player from the moment it starts to play.
Using H/W decoder works when I don't touch any settings, but for sure it doesn't work all the time.
Playing video's on S/W decoder doesn't look reliable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it causes major problems with video and sound not synchronized.
As I don't know for sure how it works:
(2) Is decoding done by firmware or by software I need to install myself? Are 'all' players using the same decoders?
(3) When I stream video's, it seems to work much better. Youtube or Plex, most of the time I can use it without problems. But since about a month, Plex is giving me more and more problems. Mostly video/audio not in sync / video's which just won't be played by plex. But I can't figure out if it's a Plex-related problem, a decoder-related problem or a problem with the original video-files.
Maybe logcat and MX Player-log in attachment can help.
Any advise with troubleshooting or finding a solution is welcome.
(4) Lately I read somewhere that video-crash could be an issue with CM11, which could be solved with going back to CM10.2 What do you think about that? And do you think CM10.2 can give the same overall mini-experience as CM11?
Thanks for reading and helping out.
About H/W+ decoder, it never worked for me either ok anything based on CM 11.
