Is this a joke? Send the phone to me -- I'll brick it for you

I can only assume that this is to claim on your warranty and/or insurance which would be considered fraud. For that reason I am closing the thread as I can't see any other reason you would want to do this to your own device...

[Q] From 4.4.4 to 4.4.2

Hi guys!
i have a moto x with bt unlocked. i've updated my moto x to 4.4.4 few weeks ago when i received the OTA.
i'd like to flash to stock rom back with rsd lite to have a complete factory reset, but the 4.4.4 stock rom german version isn't already available.. so can i flash the original firmware my moto had before the OTA (german retail 4.4.2) with rsd lite and then update it again to 4.4.4?
i'm not sure i can flash 4.4.2 over a 4.4.4...
thanks a lot!
Since you took the 4.4.4 OTA if you try to downgrade you will BRICK! There are warnings all over this forum.

Hello. You have the Moto X XT1052? If you have the Moto X XT1052 with the bootloader unlock you can downgrade from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2. Download the firmware 4.4.4 Verizon and extract the files motoboot.img and gpt.bin and copy them to the firmware 4.4.2 Retail.en.DE and flesh with RSDLite. At the end you will have the Moto X with firmware 4.4.2 Retail.en.DE

My Moto X has no brick to move from 4.4.4 to 4.4.2 and then upgrade to 4.4.4 via OTA file.

I do not doubt you, but please do not encourage others to risk a brick, when a newer ota comes, for what is of little gain.

You are not given a forum where freedom of speech. You have tried as I did? I tried and it works. Just because I did the downgrade and not an important person of XDA does not mean it does not work. I do not care what you think the guide works. I'm not going to argue with people who express opinions without trying and consider themselves smarter and more prepared than others.
@solocchi
So you did it! But what did you gain? You are unlocked.
Please do this:
Make your own thread for your exact X variant & carrier. Warn others of the risks for other phones. Then "have at it!"

Opinions are one thing, but you are recommending downgrading to people, just because it worked for you. Which can, and has bricked many Moto X's. It's all over this section, threads and posts from members who tried and bricked. Some never could fix their devices.
I REALLY hope you understand that you simply got lucky. Great! But now since you got lucky, you are advising people to downgrade as tho its perfectly safe. My friend, that is incredibly irresponsible. And how will you feel when they come back to you and say their phone is bricked? Will you have it repaired for them?
I hope you get my point. You got lucky, as have some others.... But far more people, on XDA anyway, did not get lucky. Google "moto x bricked xda" to see the stories.
I hope you will reconsider advising people to downgrade, and just count yourself lucky and keep it to yourself. Again.... Unless you want to compensate the people who try and fail. ?

Guys, don't listen to solocchi - I think he wants people to brick their devices.
You want freedom of speech solocchi? You got it. But you had better not expect people to not disagree with you. We have freedom of speech too.
Hey guys: I put my phone in the microwave for 60 seconds, then under water for 5 minutes. Then I dropped it and stepped on it.
It still works fine and it's totally safe!! Now who wants to try??
LOL
Disclaimer: don't actually do this.
Now see what I did? I followed the rules by adding a disclaimer as required by XDA.
P. S. No, it's not freedom of speech here. This is a website, ran by people... People who make and enforce rules . Passing out dangerous or malicious advice can get people in trouble. Trust me. ?
Don't worry guys, with the factory reset I'm happy

[Q] Locked Bootloader

Does this device have a locked bootloader like the Moto's of old where you cannot unlock it?
I'm talking about the International/UK device, Not a US version?
I was looking at ordering one as the Nexus 6 is way too big, but I want to be able to Root & Rom this sucker.
Ta
You can unlock it just fine. I did. Only some variants in the US doesn't allow unlocking.

Proceed with caution regarding expectations for custom ROM development for Moto X. I suspect that they will be few and far between.

If it's a custom rom, you can... Cause you won't be updating the bootloader.
But once you update to official 5.0 when it's released, if things stay as they have been.... You will not be able to downgrade after without risking a brick.

Don't downgrade or you will likely brick. And don't flash other carrier firmware either, or you could have other issues.
Why would you want to unroot? If it's for warranty repair, There's no point... They will see you've unlocked your bootloader no matter what you do.

I'd just want confirmation from others that flashing the EU version worked for them first. If you flash it and end up with issues, you'll be stuck if there's no version for your device. Again, with no downgrading.

is it possible to re lock the boot loader and get back warranty?
umm... naah... although there is a way to remove the warning sign in the boot...
in the moto x, its impossible to relock the bootloader
You can relock the bootloader, but it will show as "relocked".... Not locked as it originally was.

[Q] Rooting for the user experience

Hi yall.
I'd like my device to have the purest user experience possible. I've just uptaded my phone to Lollipop, and I'm looking after 2 features:
-google dialer and messenger app (found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/themes-apps/lollipop-google-dialer-messenger-t2940395)
- auto rotate on lock screen and home screen as well (I know it's just an option to toggle in the system)
These 2 things require root. However, I'd like to keep my warranty.
Do you think it's possible to root it, do these 2 things, and unroot it again (while obviously keeping the modifications)???
Thanks a lot,
Roumaru
Afaik, as of now there's no way to keep your warranty when rooting your phone. It can only be done by unlocking the bootloader first, which leads to an irreversible flag.
I'm sitting in the same boat.
Can you please explain how to root the moto g 2014 with lolipop 5.0.2 in germany ? can i just take the root tutorial for 4.4.4 or would it break my phone?

There is no way to unlock the bootloader and keep your warranty unless you bought it and live in the EU. EU regulations don't allow a loss of hardware warranty just because of software modifications.
Ok thanks

So in the EU, you're allowed to root it without loosing it? I didn't know that. Actually, I bought it in Switzerland so I don't know exactly i the same rules as the EU apply or not...

Beware with the boot loader. If I were you, I'd dig into google to find an answer, or wait till a relevant tutorial for Lollipop is released.

Just a very condensed version because there isn't any difference (except latest twrp is necessary):
1. Follow Motorola's instructions to unlock the bootlader.
2. Flash TWRP 2.8.5 with fastboot.
3. Flash latest SuperSU with TWRP.

Read this very carefully, at least twice from start to finish. Make sure to read the whole thread, not just the OP.
Then, if you think you understand everything, proceed at your own risk.
Rooting, bootloader unlocking, etc. is for advanced users only. You have to know what you're doing, else you're going to mess it up.
Just one thing regards the app you wanna...
Google dialer... The default dialer of android stock 5.0.2 is not google dialer?
I don't see the difference, if is different some one let me know.
If the priv-app is from android 5.x.x it may not work on android 4.4 or any under 5.x.x
Google messenger app, it can be installed via play
Be very careful in flash a dialer app, because one time I've done it (not that app from that thread) and I could not open the dialer app, or received call... I had to flash the rom again...
again... If the priv-app is from android 5.x.x it may not work on android 4.4 or any under 5.x.x..
the two applications of that thread are priv-app.

The final decision on that depends on your carrier. If there are multiple carriers there, it's possible that some have it and some don't.
