Hello,
Today I have bought a Moto X.
I can't set it up because it doesn't want to connect to my wifi.
I have restarted my router and my phone countless times.
I have turned off the firewall on my router.
I have cleaned the cache on my phone.
But I am still having problems.
When I tap on the network I want to join and tap on "Connect" nothing happens, I get no error messages, nothing!
The connection bar just goes from 4 bars to 1 bar and after a second back to 4. (I am sitting next to my router.)
Sometimes, it says it's connecting but it stops after a few seconds.
The phone has Android 4.4.4
Can someone hlep me please? Thanks!

Much more info....rooted? unlocked? which variant?
If rooted, use root explorer or similar to browse to /persist and tell us what files you have inside...
Lots of people have borked their /persist partitions and this prevents WiFi from working...
Or it could be a hardware failure. Only step-by-step troubleshooting will give any insight into this, but need additional info.

Thank you for your answer.
I have not rooted the phone.
It's an unlocked model.
I think my router is having problems because I am at my sisters house
and I can connect to their wifi without any problems.

Good deal! I'd say you have your answer. Try resetting your router (should be a reset button on back). Aside from that, contact the manufacturer or replace the router...we can't really help with router troubleshooting here.
Good Luck!

Friends,
I've been proud of my TYTN II for the last thre months that I've owned it... until recently though.
Last week, my WiFi connection stopped getting activated/swichted on. Howsoever, I may try, it would not get activated, leave alone discover the network.
I tried re-flashing it, soft-resetting, hard-resetting, I mean practically everything I could, but to no avail.
Has anyone faced this problem before, and found a solution to the same. Would appreciate if you could share the same with me. I really do not want to take it for servicing, as I fear it would take me easily a week to get it back if I take it to the Workshop.
Thanks in advance,
Atul
Let me ask a couple of questions.
Can you turn wifi on or do you get an error?
If wifi turns on does it see any access points?
have you flashed your rom on your phone?
have you tried another access point for wifi?
do you have any wifi applications installed like wififofum?
Hi Chumley,
thanks for the prompt response...
I do not get any error, not even any message hen I try to activate the WiFi. Just that the rainbow circle keeps rotating (hour-glass equivalent of indows), and then shows the WiFi is still inactive (small x near the WiFi icon).
I tried re-flashig with the latest ROM available on the HTC website, but to no avail.
Trying another access point does not help either, neither would it, I guess, since its not a problem of signal strength, as much as it seems to be of the Wireless on the Kaiser not getting activated.
No 3rd party applications installed either, after the last re-flashing, still no luck.
Anything from the above, that rings a bell?
If it does it after a flash I would think you have a defective wireless adapater. Sorry.
Guess it should not be a problem as mine is still under warranty... just abt. 3 months old. But my only worry is, as I mentioned in the original post, the time it would tk. to get it fixed by the Service Centre, or if at all it is a correctible problem... I think time to ask for a favour from a friend... a standby mobile while I await mine back
If you let it go free and it comes back, then it's yours forever.
Hello, same problem here:
two days ago my wifi connection stopped suddenly and cannot activate it from the comm manager. When I click in the WIFI Icon, rainbow circle keeps rotating and PDA perfomance goes down.
any ideas :?
Hueznar,
I've already given mine for repair at Service Centre two days back, and am still awaiting it back.
Shall let you know how it goes once I get it back
WiFi would not activate: Motherboard concked off
My PDA motherboard conked off... and it wud take 3 weeks to get it back with a new motherboard !!
Oh My God !!

Are you sure this is the only reason & solution, for I have an IDENTICAL matter of the problem, but I never thought something was wrong with the HardWare..., damn I love HTC
I know I saw this thread too late (and finally) but if you please could respond with any news?
thanx
I'm not sure what is wrong with my Wifi...need help
I don't know why...really.
The comm manager stays on good, but when I try an access point it starts with the Connecting... then after a few seconds it stops and goes Unavailable.
My router works good with my bros and sis MAC books.
So I have no idea why.
Can anyone help?

ssid? is this in the router menu?
So.. I tried what you said and didn't worked.
I think it has to be something set in the edit options...
Could you help me?
yeah ssid is the id for the wireless network
i'm not sure why it worked for me... should'nt have made a difference.
have you tried different wireless channels on the router?
increase the power output?
sorry man i don't really know enough about it but happy to try.. pm me if i can answer your question i will
looks like this guy had a similar problem... have you tried what he did?

Wifi access point problem
I had a problem where suddenly after months of use with my home wifi router, it suddenly would not connect with the router anymore. Would show that it was trying to connect, and then would suddenly not connect and try another router on the list.
I tried reseting and everything. Tried re-entering the password for my router as I thought that was the problem. finally the only fix i found to work was to actually delete the access point from the phone... then reset and then let it find it all over again from scratch. And miraculously that time it worked.
I know this is not exactly your problem, but hope it helps.

By changing it to channel 1 in my router, it kinda worked..
It says Available now. Nothing else... The connect option it still there button left.
That's my update.
just in case letting you know that I disabled all MEdia net and ISP GPRS so I won't get charged because I'm not paying for my onlince services or any mobile plan with internet.
My brother told me that all WIFI connects directly to internet and it won't matter if I don't have a plan for mobile.
Correct me here, if im wrong.
Thanks.

I have successfully flashed my phone with the CyanogenMod-4.2.4 rom, enabled WIFI and can browse the internet.
BUT, when I try to activate my Gmail through the activation wizard with WIFI enabled I get the following error message: “Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server.”
I am using a T-Mobile pre-paid account, which means I don't have a data plan, so activation over WIFI is my only option.
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Frustrating is more like it. I have spent days search this forum and the web for an answer.
I started out with CyanogenMod-4.2.3 installed and I thought that might have been the problem so last night I flashed 4.2.4 and still have the same problem.
I can browse the internet so I have a hard time believing it is a connection problem. I did come across a post earlier this week where someone was having issues with his WPA2 connection. Later today I will change the connection type and see if that fixes the problem.
If you can think of anything else I might try that would be great.
Thanks for the quick reply.

I changed my WIFI settings to WEP and WPA but still got the same error. Any more suggestions would be great.
The problem is probably due to gapps failing
keep trying and maybe it will go through

I finally got it to work and for those who may run across this thread with the same issue here what I did:
I ran across a thread on a different forum that stated the reason I was having the problem was because I skipped the initial activation process when the phone was first turned on. Well with CM4.2.4 and other rooted roms there is an option to skip the initial activation process, which I did.
So I went back and reread the other threads about how to activate your phone over wifi and they all state the same thing, you will need root access, which allows you access to execute debug commands from your PC to control your phone.
So I did a hard reset and re-flashed CM4.2.4. Then after I rebooted my phone I followed the instruction on this thread http://modmygphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9471 to turn on the wifi. Once the wifi was on I disconnected my phone from my computer and proceeded to activate it, which worked like a charm.
Wi-Fi stopped working on my Captivate today. The device says it is connected but I am not actually connected to my home network. The network is fine because every other wireless device in the house connects and communicates. Specs:
Slim-I897-4.2.2.build.1-OFFICIAL (note: I was using RC1 when the problem started this morning. I decided to flash the new build just now to see if that would change anything but it didn't)
straosk semaphore 3.0.66
So far I've shut it down, removed the battery, told it to forget Wi-Fi connections and re-entered them, and restarted my router (although everything else attached to it continues to work just fine). The phone wasn't shaken, stirred, dropped, wet, or abused in any way. It just stopped connecting to Wi-Fi!
Any troubleshooting advice will be greatly appreciated.

Backup your stuff (nandroid and such), factory reset and re-flash. My guess is that a setting or a file got corrupted.

Late last night one of my kids told me her phone (Pantech) didn't have wi-fi, either. Right now I'm checking the network for interference since the laptop and printer are working fine wirelessly but the phones and Wii are not. I'll post what I find out after I figure out the issue. Thanks!
Check that they're all assigned IP addresses etc. DNS error most likely, probably due to DHCP not being released fast enough and network clogging up. Happened at our work not too long ago, hope this helps.

That was it, or something like it. I changed the router over to OpenDNS, ditto for my phone, and assigned a static IP to the phone. Worked fine after that. I have no idea what changed, but you got me going in the right direction. Thanks!
No problem,
Early last week I ran an OTA update that took my phone 4.3 and 3.24.531.3. After the update the WiFi was connecting to wireless networks but was not receiving an internet. I tried changing the phone name to "HTC One" like many others have done and that didn't fix the problem. So I unlocked, rooted, and flashed a custom ROM thinking that would fix it. I was still experiencing the same problem.
So last night I relocked and ran an RUU to take me back to completely stock so I could run the next OTA update to take me to 4.4.2 and 4.19.531.10. But since I was not able to access any WiFi I had to use internet pass-though connected to my laptop. Even after the 4.4.2 update, I'm experiencing the same WiFi problem, but now I can't turn WiFi on at all. I have not tried re-unlocking and rooting yet either.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this?

I thought it may have been router settings at first too since I was at work when it first started happening, but it does the same thing at home as well.
I'll try changing it to something else again. Thanks for your reply

Yes, I understand that. I've done it before. Last tine it was named "Android_xxx" with some numbers and a letter I think. I tried that when I was one 4.3 and it didn't solve anything
First I have to get the WiFi to even turn on at all now
Just unlocked, rooted, and flashed with ViperOne 5.0.0 and I'm still experiencing the same problems. What's weird is that after the first boot, when you are asked to connect to a wireless network, my home network shows up, so that tells me the WiFi is on when it boots, but when I tried to connect, it failed.
Then once I was finished with the initial setup, WiFi won't turn back on, even if I go into the settings and try to turn it on manually.
Hi guys, I'm desparate right now and can't find a solution at all on the internet. It's been like this for 2-3 months and it's getting progressively worse.
I'm going to be real specific in the post.
My phone, when connected to wifi (Verizon fios) has issues using google related applications. When I try to search on google.com, it just sits on a blank screen with the loading bar 20% done, and then gives me a web page error, same for the youtube app, just keeps on loading and loading. I resolved my problems by google searching on my data, and using m.youtube.com rather than the app. Worked well for about 3 weeks, now when I'm connected to the wifi, NOTHING loads, not a single website, just sits there loading and never works. It's so fraustrating, I've reset the phone twice, cleared all kinds of cache within the phone, it's unrooted as well.
I'm so pissed right now, maybe it's an issue with my router/wifi, and not the phone itself. I have verizon fios, using a Actiontec MI424WR router (came with installation)
Says I'm connected to the wifi, excellent connection, getting over 60+ mbps YET IT WONT LOAD A ****ING GOOGLE PAGE OR LOAD A YOUTUBE VIDEO, LET ALONE THE APP ITSELF.
Please help, if you need more info please ask!
We need more info. Can you tell us what your software version number and Android version are!? Are you stock or rooted with a custom ROM!? Any Xposed modules). Please also be clear on what variant of the HTC One you have (Sprint or Verizon or att). If stock it sounds like you just need to do a factory reset.

My phone works on the 4g data (verizon), my high school's wifi, and worked at a sears outlet store too.
I'm certain that my wifi/router are causing this issue but I have no idea why or how.

some of the early DE phone's were picky about router settings but that was a year ago. Does resetting your router (unplug it)
help at all? also you can go into the router settings in the band section and set it to 2.4ghz or 5ghz and turn of auto and see if that helps.
