Stuck in Twrp - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I added a new theme for the latest Nova Twrp. When I rebooted into recovery the theme was too big for the screen so some buttons are "missing".
This means I cant reboot into sysytem or power off. I take the battery out and it just boots into recovery.
Could anyone help please. Thank you.

Is twrp too big to install cm rom again or how about downlod the original twrp from PC or laptop get SD card into pc if any of then you can not do download cm but not the twrp , get the odin one and put phone into download mode by holding volune button down whilst holding the power and front panel button down . put cm file into Odin and it will reinstall cm and twrp . hope it helps . reply for any more help

Long press on the power button will get you out of recovery and restart your phone. With your phone on, connect to PC and delete the theme folder for twrp that you created (you would of created one to be able to theme it). Unplug, power into recovery, no theme!!

Thanks for the replies. Ive tried long press on power. It doesnt work. I dont have access to a pc until tomorow(Im using my chromebook at the moment) Deleting the themes folder was going to be the first thing I was going to do. Can I access the files on the phone from pc when the phone is off or in download mode? If not I will flash recovery with odin. Thanks for the help once again.

No you can't. What you could do is download cwm (Odin) to your external SD card put it back in your phone install (assuming the install button is accessible from twrp..) Cwm n bobs your uncle

I cant do ANYTHING in recovery. I think I will flash twrp with odin. If it still doesn't work ill flash cwm touch.

If you flash twrp it won't work as the theme folder will still be there! Best go for cwm
Sent from my GT-I8190N running SlimKat

Yeah I was wondering about that. I'll try cwm. All I need is the stupid thing to boot normally, then I can use root explorer to delete the damn theme folder. Thanks for the help

One more question guys. I assume when I flash cwm it will be the default recovery? Also after flashing with odin will the phone boot normally and not into recovery. If it boots normally then I could just flash twrp and then delete the theme folder. I hope im making sense.
Cheers

Flash cwm, the phone should boot normally that is assuming you already have a rom installed? If so boot up then delete the theme folder then you can then flash twrp.

Yeah I have a rom installed. That advice sounds good. Ill let you know how I got on.
Thanks again

if you know how to adb then:
adb reboot :good:
EDIT:
------------------------------------------
Or
You could use the button combo to boot to Download mode. Once in download mode just hold power button to power off. Then it should boot normally.

Yh would be good to let us know , glad we could help

my hboot is 0.35.0017 and i am on froyo 2.2 stock is FRF91.
just download the PASSIMG for FRF91 from

Have you tried booting into recovery? Power+volume down...
Did you try to boot without the SD card? It helped me once.
Assuming you are running a custom recovery image, go to it via the bootloader menu (Turn phone on while holding volume down, then navigate to recovery using the volume buttons and selecting recovery using the power button). You should then be able to flash the same ROM you currently have installed. If however this is a completely stock device then you could run PASSIMG.zip via the bootloader to save your current install. If you need more info just ask

If you can flash a rom use 2.1.1 not 2.1. Assume you are doing that thru fastboot from pc.
Also, try the 3 finger reboot to get to recovery.
Hold down pwr/vol-/trackball at sametime until phone boots into bootloader, then navigate to recovery option. Then wipe all and restore a good bu. If this happened while dl'ing apps, one may be bad. Get all of them off phone and do one at a time.

Ok, understand now.
You may have some options thru fastboot and the pc. Do you have SDK installed on pc. I am not good at that, someone else may have suggestions along those lines. Unless, as I asked, you already have used that method to flash amon ra 2.1.
If you can thru fastbboot with SDK I would still flash amon 2.1.1

I am out of ideas, sorry
Someone will get you going
Sounds like you are using SDK, it may be the way to wipe and get back to an original phone state, then reupgrade. I don't know sdk very well.
Did you try the other idea of trying to get to recovery with sd card out of phone. If you do that you may want to back it up while out of phone if you have a sd card reader
Good Luck and wait for more help

Just restore a stock image.
Follow the wiki guide for unroot/restore. Use the passimg method, with the FRG33 zip, which can be found by following the link on the word "here" on step 2...

Where can i find fastboot instructions?

[Q] Optimus black bootloop

hello!
i'm quite new here and i would gladly appreciate if anybody could redirect me to an existing thread (if any) regarding my concern.
i have my phone installed with rom manager via google play.i made a rom backup as recommended before downloading the recommended cyanogenmod version for my phone. i followed all the instruction about the rom, devlik, cache etc. everything was going well, when suddenly during clockworkmode (forgive my spelling), my phone booted and i thought it successfully installed. but then i noticed that it was booting was continuous even after 10 mins and more. i panicked and i removed the battery. and then i tried the lg shortcut for recovery (i think) which then appear. i chose to restore backup and then reboot. but nothing happened. it still "booting". everytime i power on my phone, it only show the lg logo and the blinking shortcuts. i tried to vol+/- and power but to no avail. i cant go back to the recovery panel. what should i do? :'(
i would kindly appreciate any help you could extend to me.
thank you in advance!
Hello mitzibelle,
Looks like your backup is no good also....
Did you press any keys during the backup procedure? Because backup will stop and not finish if that happened resulting in a unfinished & unusable backup.
What you can do is download the rom you want to install again, to make sure the file is ok check the md5.
Copy this file to your sd card, reboot into recovery and choose install from sd. Browse to the zip file and install.
This should result in a working phone.
Let me know if it was useful or not.

I can't seem to reboot my phone into recovery because the volume+/- and power button combination has no effect. if i put a new rom in the sd card and placed in again in the phone, will the hardware buttons work again? is having a "defective" backup rom affecting the recovery button shortcut or is it a different problem?
thank you for your help
You should be able to enter clockworkmod recovery by pressing the G button below the volume buttons. As soon as the 4 buttons staft to flash. Or just turn it off and on again and start bashing the G key immediately.
As soon as you enter cmw you might also try to flash your previously downloaded file again. Worked for me a few times.
A defective backup does not have any influence on the hardware buttons, also placing a downloaded rom on the sd would not affect the buttons.
Don't forget to clear the caches before you install your downloaded rom if it's different then the one you used when the phone was still working..... Maybe it's wise to clean the caches anyways concerning your previous problems. Wipe factory, cache & dalvik cache also. Dalvik cache can be found under the advanced menu option.
Hope this is useful

If you can't go into recovery you have to do emergency recovery with Smart Flash Tool.
Pressing the G-key repeatedly on boot to go into recovery is only if it has Huexxs G-recovery.

3.41 bootloader info from google support

Well I decided to call Google about the boot loader recovery not working as it should. I was hoping this call would help them to work on another update but they say that's the way its supposed to work. Here's the email Instructions:
1. Power down your device
2. Press and hold both volume keys and the power button to enter
Bootloader mode
3. Press the volume keys to cycle to the Recovery mode option
4. Press the power button to select Recovery mode
5. From the Recovery mode screen, press and hold the Power button then
press the Volume up button.
6. Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset.
7. Select Yes -- delete all user data.
8. The factory data reset process will now start. Once its finished,
select 'Reboot system now.'
The only option we have in the new recovery is to wipe data. Maybe for those having problems accessing twrp or cwm will be able to a access it with step 5. I don't know haven't rooted yet. So I decided to ask about nvflash and they said they're not going to release any nvflash tools or files.
um, yup. thats how stock bootloader and stock recovery work. lol
whats the issue? if your not even rooted, you wouldn't even know if you have an issue or not with the new bootloader.
Are you saying that you can't flash a different recovery? Or that when you do you still get the same stock recovery? I'm not quite sure what the issue is here, because that is exactly how the stock bootloader, and recovery are supposed to work.
Are you making sure to unlock fastboot before trying to flash recovery. I don't recall seeing or hearing anyone say anything about not being able to get to clockwork mod once its installed.

No. I saw people posting they couldn't get go cwm and could only see the red exclamation point. And I was just saying maybe after choosing recovery then holding volume up and power it would then go to cWm or twrp. I was hoping for someone to try it who is still on 3.41 Recovery. A lot of people downgraded back to 3.39 or whatever version it was

I can confirm that to get in to the stock recovery you hold down 'power' and then tap 'vol up'.
At present I am running the latest CWM touch recovery. This boots straight into it from the bootloader without any extra button presses.
My personal preference to go into CWM is from either QuickBoot or ROM Manager.

When I first flashed TWRP onto my Nexus 7 after that official 4.1.2 OTA update, I wasn't able to boot into it. I then flashed it again via fastboot, and then booted the TWRP image that was on my computer, and then TWRP loaded.
I believe TWRP does work normally now as well (I can boot into it and reboot into it).

going to recovery from bootloader works fine after 3.41.....wat r u talkin abt? (i m stock rooted+twrp)
oh yea...u hav 2 remove that recovery stock.p file thingy first.
There are plenty of people that are having issues with recovery on 3.41 bootloader.... Its confirmed some have it some don't.
The issue is that with 3.41 bootloader on some Nexus 7 Devices a custom recovery is unbootable no matter how you try, every time it will try to load recovery and fail at a black screen then reboot into the OS. It does not matter how you try from ADB reboot to recovery or from bootloader with USB attached or not.

In your system folder there's a file called 'recovery-from-boot.p'
Go into a file manager with w/r access and rename it ' recovery-from-boot.p.bak'
When the system boots it reads that file and resets the recovery to stock, by changing the name you remove the problem.

[Q] I think I've bricked my phone, please help!

I have had my i9305t rooted with CWM since day one, and it has always worked fine. Today I saw there was an AOKP build 5 available for the i9305, and stupidly I tried to flash it, forgetting I needed a specific local version. It didn't even try to install, because CWM recognised it was for the wrong version phone, so I restored the backup file I'd made with CWM. It said there was an MD5 mismatch, but it booted back up fine and I could set up the phone again, however it had reset to base. So I rebooted, got into recovery again, did a factory reset, wiped cache and dalvik, tried to restore again... no difference.
Not sure exactly when it happened, but I tried to boot into recovery again and it hung on the 'Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9305T' splash screen. So I turned it off and it booted up into Android again as per normal. In an attempt to fix recovery (at this stage I was considering just reflashing the stock rom), I downloaded CWM off the play store and used the 'Flash CWM recovery' option. It said it succeeded, so I tried booting into recovery again but it hung on the splash screen once again. So I turned it off, tried to boot normally into Android again, but it hung on the splash screen again!
Now it doesn't matter what I do, trying to boot into recovery or Android it gets stuck on that damned splash screen! I tried pulling out the battery and leaving it out for a good ten minutes, plugging it back in and booting it up, but again it gets stuck. If I leave it on the splash screen, there it will stay. It doesn't pulse, it doesn't move, it doesn't reset, it just hangs there indefinitely.
Please help! Is there anything I can do to recover it, or have I just got myself an expensive paperweight?

If you downloaded .zip you unpack it somewhere on comp.
You in your phone allow unknown sources in settings and turn on USB debugging.
After that use official cable to connect phone and comp ( I guess you have all usual drivers already installed) and then go to folder where you unzipped your files and start install.bat.
Then follow instructions as they come.
P.S. just to check you downloaded from here: http://nut.xperia-files.com/path/XZDualRecovery

It isn't meant to flashing but it will install Nut's Dual Recovery which is app and will "make" TWRP and CWM and nuts recovery (similar to cwm).
You can enter recovery through app and will go to choosen recovery or when phone is booting you will have a chance to enter directly into recovery by pressing vol up or down...phone will vibrate and notifications led will glow green then press vol up or down

For changing kinguser to supersu just follow this :

I'm not sure about posting 3rd party links but if this get deleted PM me and I will see how to help you.
PS in Nut's app you can also choose which recovery you want to use, although people like to use TWRP I have no predisposition toward any specific.
