I'm running stock 4.4 on my rooted Sprint HTC One.
I've been trying out tethering apps to try to find one that works. After failing with several of them, I came to JB WiFi Tether. It also didn't work (simply prompted me to choose a tethering plan). I had read a review that suggested it might work after rebooting. It did not.
Now, I've uninstalled it, but my phone reboots itself roughly 90-120 seconds after booting, every time. I've wiped dalvik and cache in TWRP, to no effect.
What next? I'm not opposed to doing a factory reset if that will fix it.

Save all of your personal data off of the phone and do a factory reset. If that doesn't work then you may have to re-install the stock firmware and/or stock rom.

Thanks very much for the response! Should I do factory reset from the bootloader or from TWRP (is there a difference)?
Basically everything is saved since I did a backup in HTC Sync Manager very recently.

I would do it from TWRP, because it will warn you if it wiped your OS. I would use the bootloader if I was completely stock.

Thanks again! The factory reset seems to have done the job, thankfully. :highfive:
I'm so glad to be back in business. Now if I could just get tethering to work.

Well I just got my cappy today. I decided to install froyo, I went with cognition.
So i rooted, installed Rom manager, backed up. Installed Titanium backup. Backed up everything i didn't knew what it was. Installed cognition.
After this when it loaded it keeps giving me this error constantly and lagging the phone. Since its my first android phone I'm not sure what to do. I didn't restored anything with Titanium, though I'm not sure if this program does this automatically...
I cleared user data and cache and the error persists.
I'm currently on Ubuntu on my pc so odin is not an option. So I want to have the phone working fast, preferrably with froyo, should i download another rom and reflash with rom manager? Any ideas on what I've done wrong or why the error is displayed?
I'm very thankfull for any sort of help, premature answers are more than welcomed
Either try to get odin to work with ubuntu... Wine?
Find someone with windows PC and odin.
Dual boot xp / 7 and do it yourself
First this is NOT the area for questions per se this is for DEVELOPMENT.
I suggest you try in the General or Q&A section or in this case the Cognition thread since that is the one having issues for you.
Without ODIN I cannot recommend anything so I suggest you try the Cognition thread amigo.
Regards
Just removed my simcard and the error stopped
Does this mean the phone is no longer unlocked?
I bought the phone unlocked so I'm not sure how to restore it to the way it was. Should the unlock code still be somewhere over my phone internal memory? Any quick ideas on how to do this? Or should i look into the whole unlocking post on froyo?

Check out this thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778609. It involves setting up a VM(virtual machine) but that is a very easy task. I hope you find this helpful. But do not flash over Cog. You need to use Odin, flash back to stock, do a master clear and then re-flash Cog via CWM.
You prob's flashed Cognition right after the reboot forced by ClockworkRecovery, so the media scan wasn't completed, phone freaked and just lost most of its powarrrr.
Oh yeah: wrong subforum...
Sorry about the subforum btw

That sounds logic. Any ideas on what should I do so I can make the phone stop giving me this error with my simcard inside?
btw i dont know if this has anything to do but with my simcard inside i noticed 2 things
First it gets gsm signal crashes, looses the signal, regains it and this loops over and over.
After this i also noticed one service restarts over and over when this happens

This happened to me once, so I went back into recovery and used CM to reflash. My files were still on the root of the internal SD card, so I figured I'd give it a shot. It worked for me - cleared up my FC problems.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by using CM to reflash? When i boot into recovery i only have three options:
reinstall
clear user data
clear cache

Select reinstall - hopefully it will launch the CM recovery mode. Then you can select to install from the SD card.
Just reinstalled cognition but it still has the same problem. Should i download the i9000 reoriented and try with that one to see if by any chance...?
Did you try reflashing with sim card out? Maybe a master clear would help too?
Yes the last time i tried with the simcard out. I'm guessing the phone is still unlocked, a master clear woudn't change this? If anyone can confirm this I'll try it asap.
I'm downloading as well Doc's rom 7.5 to try reflashing that instead, I can do that or I have to downgrade and then reflash?

How did you do it? I tried reinstalling without sim card and it did not work.
I had the same problem, so I reflashed to factory /w Odin and made sure to wipe cache and data, and it worked without a hitch.

I think the problem could be that your unlock code was deleted. When you flashed. If you can not use odin try this, find the jh7 ota update. I think you can get it from the cognition download page. Flash this it will bring you back to a 2. 1 Rom. Read up on how to unlock your phone. Unlock then copy the unlock code. Then flash cognition again and follow steps to unlock.
If you are on the newest cog make sure you disable the voodoo lagfix prior to flashing. I can not guarantee this will work but it is worth a go. If you created a nandroid prior to flashing once you are on jh7 you should be able to restore
Captivate
Cog 2.2
Hi, so I made the dumb mistake of deleting the OS from my HTC One (Sprint). I got the One deodexed stock Jelly Bean rom from Android Revelution HD. Sideloaded it onto the phone and went into TWRP recovery to install the zip. It says the install was successful, however, when I hit reboot, it doesn't start into the rom. It just stays on the bootloader screen and sometimes I have to fastboot flash a recovery in order to get back into TWRP. I have tried fastboot erase cache and have also tried factory resetting it and wiping cache/dalvik cache before I install. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas???

If it was me, I would just RUU and start over. Once that is done, boot it up transfer your rom over to the internal storage via usb while booted up. Then go back into fastboot, flash newest TWRP recovery and flash your rom. Also I don't think that rom supports the Sprint Variant at least that what is says under the details section. That could be part of your issues as well. I usually stay away from roms that weren't specifically made for my version but that's just me.

You're right. I checked and it's not compatible with Sprint. I downloaded the 31.6, but now I can't install it? Something about error with partitions. I've thought about doing the RUU but thought it might be more difficult.

RUU is easy. Just boot into fastboot, connect usb and launch the RUU. Once it's done then flash recovery and a different rom. It won't affect your s-off either if you are. I am currently using stock with goodies. It's a little older but it's rock solid, bloat is all gone, no blink feed and awesome battery. Will be switching once kit kat officially drops.

RUU was SO much easier! Only problem is I can't get service now? It says I have Sprint service and there are some signal bars, but it doesn't say 3G or anything. Anyone have this problem after RUU?

Try resetting the radio. ##786 then reset. You will need your MSL there are a few ways to get it. When I first activate a new phone, I always get in the habit of getting the MSL so I just have it. If you don't have it just call Sprint and ask. If you get some moron CSR just hang up and call back don't argue. I also don't like to use the word MSL when asking, I always say reset code so you can reset your phone most the time they will give it to you.

Hello everyone! Thank you for your time.
I have a AT&T HTC One from launch day. I recently flashed the AT&T stock ROM for 4.4.2 over an old 4.2 Google Play Edition ROM for my phone. I used ADB Sideload in TWRP 2.5 to do so. I also rooted. After flashing, I was fine for about a day, but then two issues occurred.
1) I can no longer send texts. I receive them fine and the phone works otherwise for calls, Wi-Fi, data, etc. but nobody I've texted is receiving texts. I've tried using a third-party client and the built in one.
2) If I reboot the phone, the phone will boot up normally, work for about a minute or two, then reboot again. This cycle repeats until I flash again. Clearing the caches does not help. I'm still able to access everything until it reboots and getting into the Settings menu seems to prevent this issue from occurring, but I have no idea why this is happening.
I know I can always flash another ROM and those seem to work fine, but I'd really like to stick with stock or a similar-stock experience where I can root. Anyone that can recommend a solution or a ROM that's close to stock would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

maybe try just flashing the system img, then wipe cache's again before booting. if that doesnt work, its may be time for the dreaded fdr.
I've never been into flashing system img & fdr? It's just sad because I had the same issue before also losing signal with my device. Til I got a replacement and the replacement device is starting to act up also.

my only other suggestion would be to re-flash. you could try just the system partition, but if it were me i would just go all in for full clean flash.
im sure Simms will get on me for saying so, but you can just grab wugs toolkit and be done in 20min or so.

Is it rooted with mods or completely stock? If stock, try deleting the saved wireless networks..

these random issues usually come from a corrupt file, either by an update or some other means. its hard to impossible to pinpoint the cause usually.
if you never flashed before, its best to read up on it a bit first. wugs walks you through the steps, from downloading the files, and drivers, to the flashing. its not foolproof, but if you follow the lead of the script, its not hard to figure out.

well i have before but that was so long ago and that was for my MyTouch and HTC Sensation but that was years ago. Now I know things are easier but I've never really been into flashing and the only reason I did back then was for updates and different version of Sense UI but since I've been using Nexus Devices I didn't have a need or desire to actually flash. Pretty much I'm a NOOB!
but I don't see why wouldn't a factory reset fix it. even if it was temp.

clearing the cache is always a good idea, i think i suggested that earlier.
i dont know how to explain well what cache is exactly, its not part of the file system, its more like temp data storage i believe.

You can factory reset without losing data. Flash latest rom using home_csc and you will retain your settings and apps .
If that doesn't fix it, then do the same but flash regular csc which will wipe data and settings.
Games, apps, ECT are mainly all cloud based now anyways. The only things that you need to manually setup are device specific settings really. If you have a problem but aren't willing to do troubleshooting then there's nothing anyone can really do.
Alternatively, enable developer settings and verify your settings matches the one I highlighted in red. That may help.
