[Q] Nokia Lumia 520 Dead - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I bought a Lumia second hand and it has the Demo ROM installed.
I've read the forums and found suggestions to try the NOkia recovery tool, which I did.
Downloaded the ROM, it went to install but stopped at 1% and error'd. clicked recover but it would not do anything. Sceen blank.
Phone will not not turn on. It vibrates when i plug into USB. tried Power and volume down, also nothing.
Downloaded the Care Suite, when i plug it in it says its in flash mode (I believe as cant see the whole field)
Can you advise on how I may be able to recover the phone?
many thanks
Rob

Hi,
You have tried this tutorial?
And what is your Hardware Product Code?

Hi
I have tried that method
I get as far as selecting recovery mode. Setting it to no connection. But it is unable to see the device to flash the firmware. It keeps prompting to do the power and volume down. When I do this nothing happens so it keeps prompting
Thanks!

I'm afraid your Lumia is effectively dead. Either change the motherboard, either make repair in specialized service.

[Q] captivate bricked with no download mode

Hi
first of all thank you for so much info.
I spend more than 10 hours looking for a solution on other posts but can't fins a solution.
my phone is bricked and i am not able to get to the download mode or the recovery. before I bricked it I was able to get the download mode with adb with since i tried odin, i have the phone --!-- computer
I am in canada so returning it would be a hassle. any help would be much appreciated to get to the download mode
thank you very much
Download Odin.
Take out the SIM, SD card, and battery. Launch Odin, replace the battery, and plug the USB cord in, and just press down on the volume up and down buttons.
This should boot it right into download mode, then flash with Odin.
This phone is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to brick.
man, i tried that maybe 50 times no kidding!
still no download mode

Hold the volume buttons first then plug in the usb. Thats what works for me. You have to have odin open first like he said.
just tried and still nothing....
if somebody is located in montreal, i would love to meet them to check that out

Having Odin open makes no difference if his button combo is not working. Unfortunately some people are not aware that there phone does not have the 3 button combo working.
what is your solution when you don t have the 3 button combo working?
The only thing you can do if there is no way to reach download mode is to contact At&t or samsung and see if they can repair the phone for you.
Have you tried using a different usb cable, someone mentioned that some USB cables dont work right with the captivate, try the one that came with the phone.
I know odin doesnt matter, but if he is going to flash with odin it helps to have it open first is all I meant. As far as that screen and no three button combo I think you are done... bricked... sorry, dont take my word for it though.
I could enter download mode with key combination before applying Cog's Beta5.5...
I've returned my cappy for exchange.
I am trying with the cable that came with the phone. I don't have another one.
I just bought this phone out of ebay. I will give it this week end to try and find a solution.
I really don't see any as of now but we'll see...
I will try return the phone to the ebay seller as i asked him before buying it if you could go into download mode! and he said yes!
man, I hope i find a solution!
what happens when you try and start your phone normally -- boot screen loop, anything?
Can you get into recovery mode?
when I try to start it normal I get the phone--!--computer
I am sure I tried recovery mode without any success. I am telling I spent so much time on this forum that my wife is going to start being jalous
How do you get to recovry mode again? I tried so many things, that I don't remember
you can't get the phone to be recognized on your computer? Could do ADB to boot into download.
But the battery trick should work.
Pull the sim, external sdcard, and battery.
Hold down the volume buttons and plug in the USB
Then jam the battery back in.
It might take a few times to get it.. but it should get into download mode. I just restored mine doing this trick when it was stuck on this screen.
Really we need to have a youtube vid of this technique

Not sure if it will help, but I've also read that you should use the actual motherboard usb ports and not a hub or any kind of "external" ports (i.e. the ports on the front of the tower)
i did all that stuff.
I ended up returning it to the ebay seller who will send me another captivate.
thanks guys
My download was working on cog 2.2 beta before i flashed back to stock using odin. Now when I try to enter download mode i just see the charging symbol. So the only thing that has changed is software. Could odin3 remove my download mode? What can i do?
Its been a rough night for me. I did a Nandroid backup which turned out I needed to restore after something else failed. After restore I did not have what I expected.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I ended up in a situation that no matter what I did, I could not get into download mode. Only recovery.
The good news is that after trying several different things, I finally found I had the original base rom I was using still on the SD card (even though I had done a Master Clear). I guess maybe the only thing that will empty the SD card is to format it.
I have no idea what I would have done had I not had a Clockwork zip on there.

[Q] Tried installing ROM, phone now cannot boot. Please HELP!

Hi, I sorry to bother anyone, but I need help because my phone is not responding and I don't know what to do.
C6603, rooted, dual recovery installed, bootloader unlocked (I think)
So here's what happened. I very successfully installed the existenz ultimate rom on my phone. It was a wonderful rom and everything was going well. However, I accidentally dropped my phone and needed to send it for repair. Before sending it to the shop, I decided to do a factory reset using the option in recovery mode.
When I got the phone back from the repair shop, I wanted to install the same rom. What I did was download the rom installer and then install the zip file using the recovery mode. I went through the AROMA installer and everything, So I thought everything was going fine. When the phone rebooted, it showed the SONY logo, followed by a permanent black screen. The screen is on, it is just black.
I scoured the xda forums and I tried several things, to no avail:
I cannot enter recovery mode.
My PC cannot recognize my phone.
Flashtool cannot recognize the phone. My phone can't seem to enter flashmode, either.
I tried holding the power button and the vol. up button, and the phone does indeed restart (no vibrations), showing the SONY logo, and then I'm stuck with the black screen again.
I hope somebody can help me!
EDIT: I managed to somehow get flashmode working, so I think my phone is fine now! What a false alarm! In case this ever happens to anyone, what I did was to unplug the phone from any source of charging, then proceed to hold on the power button and vol. up button for REALLY long, I think almost 20 seconds. This managed to switch my phone off (it would keep restarting if I didn't hold in down long enough).
download stock firmware and open flashtool & ready to flash, dont connect until it say.connect your usb cable to ur phone, then reboot ur phone when display goes to black connect ur phone to pc whith pressing vol down ,then flash tool detect ur phone and it flash, sorry foe my bad english

Never seen this kind of brick before

So when I installed the TWRP app on the google play store and started it. It required me to rewrite my sd card or whatever so I went and ahead and did it. While my phone turned off still plugged into my computer via usb it started spamming the format windows on my computer. Like roughly 12 tabs opened up asking to format this drive. So I closed all the windows and re plugged in the usb and the same problem came up. And awhile all of this is going on the device is on but the screen is black and the back lights are on. Even when trying to restart the phone its the same problem stuck on black screen and the formatting windows keep popping up. It won't go to download or recovery mode it just stays on the black screen. This is my 2nd lg g2 I bought for business and I don't recall ever having this problem with my original LG G2. Anybody have any experience with this or a fix?

Yeah I've tried but the lg flash tool will give a error in the middle of flashing it
saying the phone is disconnected from pc, even though its still connected. It would go up to 25% then 60% then back to 25% in the middle of flashing then the error pops up.
Edit: Yeah while flashing the vs98024A kdz it will stop at 60% on the lg mobile support tool and it won't go past that. It'll just have the phone being disconnected from the computer error.
Is it safe to assume nobody knows how to fix this?
Same exact brick here.

Suggestion, have you tried the tot method yet? There isn't a 24A tot, but you can always take the ota.
same thing
I have the same thing and got it the same way with goomanager .was installing recovery and after reboot I got black screen with backlight on but to logo no nothing... can't get to download mode because I can't power off the phone. I also get the format drives promt in windows (about 15 or so all with a different drive letter) one drive I can read and it contains a folder called image with files in it. that drive is write protected. at this point I will wait till the backlight kills the battery and hope I can get into download mode after it shuts down.
FYI: I did try the LG mobile support tool but it did not see the phone. would love some ideas....

instead of waiting for the battery to drain, try this:
1. Unplug the phone from charger/USB cable
2. press and hold the power + volume down buttons for a few seconds... let go of the buttons 2 seconds after you feel it vibrate.
3. hold the volume up, and connect the phone to your computer.
you should be in Download mode by now....proceed to flash the phone back to stock using the LG Flash tool.
Hope this helps.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
in Linux it seems to flash to the phone fine but I am still stuck with a black screen with the backlight on
I did wait for the phone to run down and shut off but still could not get into download mode.
My wife has the same phone .. is their a way to copy her working files to the bricked phone?
Windows see's the phone as QHSUSB_BULK in device manager if that helps any. before all this started it saw it as an android device

Huawei P20 Pro ANYWAY TO Flashboot? Or bypass the FRP ?

Hi Everyone! Well, today is my time to ask for some help! :fingers-crossed:
I got my hands on a great looking Huawei P20 PRO, unfortunately the Phone is locked FRP... But as i had searched around, there was a method to bypass that by a simple bug they had on the "TALKBACK", like one week ago people was doing that bypass successfully , but this phone has a newer version of talk back, 7.1.x.x...
On the videos people have the previous 6.1.x.x version... That means i don't have the same "help" option as they have.
-After that i tried to get the phone into Fastboot mode, but i can't get the phone on that mode, i press volume down and hold for a while with the device turned off, then i plug the usb, and it just starts charging...
-I press Both vol up and vol down buttons with power at same time, it goes to a screen "EMUI" that says "SOFTWARE INSTALL FAILED! GET HELP FROM xxxx.EMUI COM/BLABLABLA) and says "Reboot system now"...i then press reboot now, and i does a regular reboot and starts up to select language etc, all good... BUT FRP locked...
- Then last night i tried to press VOLUME UP then plug the USB and it got into Erecovery mode, that gave me the option to download the latest version, wipe the current one, shutdown, or reboot... well i had nothing to lose and i did the first to download the latest version, after a 4gb download and install the phone is on the same situation, same version, same everything....
Makes me wonder if someone already done bad attempts before me.
Is there anyway to get the phone on Flashboot? Or bypass the FRP ?

SofrBricked P30 Pro

I tried to install an update through OTG method and now my phone won't boot at all, it only vibrates and can go to reovery mode. I think i soft-bricked it. Please, someone help bcs this is my primary and only phone.
https://www.hardreset.info/devices/huawei/huawei-p30-pro/hardreset/first-method/
I tried it already and it stops at 5%. Is there a way to flash it through fastboot mode? It seems like that's the only thing running fine on the phone
First turn off the phone
Hold the volume up button and then connect the phone to usb power, it will boot to recovery. There you can connect to wifi and download the correct firmware.
Hold on... So are updates okay for this phone?
I'm about to turn mine on for the first time today but I don't want to bust it straight away.
I'd be hosting OTA.

I bought the phone two days ago. After testing various settings I tried to go into the recovery mode by pressing Power+VolumeUp.
After that the phone displayed a message:
software install failed! get help from emui.com/emotiondownload.php?mod=restore
I did it again and again with the same result. So I decided to return the phone to the shop. In a shop I took another one.
I go home and repeated the test, again with failure.
So, you are my saviour. I didn't know the trick with the usb cable.
Thank you! :good:
