Ok, so I am about to go out of country and have no plans of using mobile data or mobile phone while I am gone. If I put the phone in airplane mode, I cannot use my bluetooth headphones, which I'd like to be able to do. So how can I COMPLETELY shut off the phone transmissions, but still allow bluetooth and wifi? Is there an app for that?
In settings you can turn off mobile data, but the phone radio still seeks out towers which I do not want it to do.
Just recently figured this one out
Download the app "Network" <-Link
Open it up, scroll down till you see the button "Turn off radio"
Click it
Turn on the wifis and bluetoofs
Now you have them enabled with the radio disabled but not in airplane mode
AWESOME. That solved it. Thank you!!
One quick follow-up question. Once I turn the radio off, if I pull down the drop down menu, it says "Looking for Service." I am assuming it is NOT using battery to look for service, even though it says that, right??
Actually, AFAIK, if you turn on Airplane mode, and THEN turn on Bluetooth and WiFi, the cell radio will still be off, but BT and WF will work still. At least WiFi works for me like that.
No. Bluetooth will not work on the hero. At least on every Fresh ROM I've ever had, you cannot turn on bluetooth in airplane mode . . . maybe wifi, but that is less important to me.
I finally found a app that works. Download Network by Philipp Mangelow in market. Start the app, scroll down until you see "turn off radio" button and press. After that just exit the app, activate bluetooth and the radio stays off. Works perfectly on my Transform. Let me know if this works for you!
nvm delete

Lol Was just thinking about something like this and BAM!, didn't even have to search far.
Title pretty much says it all, everytime I turn wifi on, it tells me it's turning on then after a while it'll say disconnecting, then turning off and repeat teh cycle. I have tried restarting, I am rooted but it had this problem before root. Also, please dont just respond "take it to verizon" cuz they won't like my root.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Has it ever worked?
Network issue? It might have a limited connectivity situation going on and trying to continuously authenticate with your router.
have your checked router settings?

Yeah, it used to work fine, could it be an app I downloaded, or some superuser privelages messing it up? My phone used to freeze regulrly when too many apps requested superuser privs. No sure if same issue...

Is it possible to try connecting to a different network and see what happens? My D3 did the same thing and it turns out I just needed to reboot my router. I figured it out by going up to Starbucks where the phone connected just fine.
Definitely hardware. I had the same problem on my previous stock droid 3. Just went out one day. Took it to verizon and they sent me a replacement. Unroot and get a new one.
Also, gps stopped working around the same time. I wonder how widespread faulty hardware is now considering a lot of people with gps problems and if they might see wifi failing soon..
Well I just received my NFC tags and have come up with some pretty good uses and locations for them, but I'm curious as to what everyone else uses them for! Please state the function and location of your tag(s)!
Nightstand: Pandora, vibrate, alarm
Front door: WiFi turn on, ringer on
And more to come...

Some ideas here: https://plus.google.com/102023090624091726129/posts/4qBJBvby5Su
I too got my Nexus a couple of NFC Tags. I've kept one in my car which disables Wi-Fi, enables Bluetooth, activates GPS, plays music (to my car's Bluetooth audio) and opens Foursquare for checkin.
Bringing my phone the second time to the same NFC tag will undo the above things except foursquare.
I use NFC Task Launcher app.

I stuck one to my laptop to enable hotspot.
When it goes into my pocket on my motorcycle jacket it disables WiFi ..dims screen and automatically pairs itself to my Bluetooth receiver in my helmet.
Other than that, don't really need it for much else.

I'm going to be ordering a few more soon, but I have one of my door frame for when I leave that disables WiFi, turns on auto brightness, and lowers ringer volume. There's also one on a side table next to my couch that enabled WiFi and connects to my home network, full brightness, ringer/media volume all the way up and disables Bluetooth/GPS if they're on. One in my car to start Bluetooth and GPS, and starts slacker and DSP manager.

Can you program the NFCs yourself or does it need to be done in the shop/manufacturer first? Awkward if you need to change one setting for any reason.
edit: never mind, googled for a bit!

So why post in this thread? Oh you are just trying to get your post count up. Be careful about posting useless stuff to get your post count up. If a mod sees it they will just erase what u posted or worse if it continues. Just a heads up...
I bought some NFC tags but have yet to use them as I'm waiting to get better WiFi. Then I'll put one on my front door frame to turn WiFi on when I enter my house. I have a second one also but I'm still unsure what I want to do with it. I was thinking about using it on my work truck to set up some settings there but for the most part I don't change many settings. Cool Lil things though if u can find some good reasons to use them as you guys have.

I do similar:
I have a tag on my keyring which toggles wifi with 3g.
Would be useful if tags would function on a locked phone...

If you have a Bluetooth Media receiver or stereo w/BlueTooth you can use the app "BT Tag Writer" to create a tag that when tapped will automatically connect your phone to it.
Besides that, if you want to get real fancy w/NFC tags, then use Tasker and the free plugin app "Tasker URL Launcher". I have a tag on my nightstand that is not a toggle tag, but rather I set up time parameters in Tasker so if I tap it between 9pm and 2am it changes my phone settings to sleeping settings (lowers volumes, dims display, etc). If I tap it from 5am to 10am then it changes settings to awake settings (increases volume levels, changes display brightness to auto, etc). If I tap in during any other time, it does nothing which keeps me from accidentally triggering a change when I don't want to.
Anyway, with NFC and Tasker the possibilities really are endless...
Did you guys notice that the Note 3 keeps giving this message every time it connects to a wi-fi network?
You then need to change the settings to make it ignore the message and stay connected. But the message will always pop-up.
Any ideas if this is a Hardware or an Android 4.3 issue?
i get the same notification all the time.
I remember seeing this message before. Now, I get "Prevention Information" when I connect to Wifi

Never had this, never saw it. Nit even once. All I have seen from day one is "Connected to XXXX" where exactly are you seeing this message? i have not seen it in notifications, nor in the little pop up at the screen bottom -which I hate personally - oh to have a custom ROM, sigh! Actually now that I am rooted, I suppose I can research the fix and implement myself... It's pure laziness (on my part) is what it is, and there's NO excuse for it, lol!
I've never had that. Connecting to an open network or something?

My Galaxy Note 3 Is A Definite Go!!!!!
I get the same message!!!
I have a brand new ATT Galaxy Note 3 rooted and running stock firmware and I too get this message all the time. I didn't realize I could force it to connect anyways, could anyone elaborate on how to do this? My Wi-Fi connection is very strong and my internet speed is fast, I know the problem is with the phone. I don't know what's causing this problem. If I had to guess though I would say something to do with KNOX. I started getting the "Prevention" message people are talking about in the other threads about the same time this Wi-fi thing started.
THanks XDA
Theres a thread about this already with the fix. Open dialer and dial *#0011# hidden menu will pop up and then hit the hard menu key, tap wifi, click wifi power saving mode to off and then reboot.
I get that too, I've did the secret menu fix but it still happens. I know it's not my network since I have extremely fast Internet and and an Asus n65

I get that message from time to time and it generally happens when i can connect to wifi but the quality of the connection is weak, or the internet connection itself is poor.
im interested to know if the battery drains faster with this option turned off.
Go into settings>wifi>advanced and Turn off automatic network switching and the message won't pop up anymore. No need to go through the dialer

Wrong! it will still pop-up the only difference is that Turn off automatic network switching will not disconnect your wifi connectivity

Hey Guys,
I saw many threads about this, nothing with Z1, and I can't figure out where is the problem.
Like the title says WiFi turn on by it self. I am on .136, no root, nothing, and I never saw this issue before, maybe because I leaved WiFi on all the time but now I have to use 4G to call people with Skype and I want WiFi Off, but I can't. All the time I leave my phone for few minutes WiFi appear to be On no matter what and my battery drain quickly.
I am sure is Android involved in this but how can I fix it?

Who knows? and what you mean?
They are not separated. For Google's location Section, if WiFi is Off Google will use Mobile network to determine my approximate location.
There is no reason to turn it on, or I missing something?
