Ok, so I am about to go out of country and have no plans of using mobile data or mobile phone while I am gone. If I put the phone in airplane mode, I cannot use my bluetooth headphones, which I'd like to be able to do. So how can I COMPLETELY shut off the phone transmissions, but still allow bluetooth and wifi? Is there an app for that?
In settings you can turn off mobile data, but the phone radio still seeks out towers which I do not want it to do.
Just recently figured this one out
Download the app "Network" <-Link
Open it up, scroll down till you see the button "Turn off radio"
Click it
Turn on the wifis and bluetoofs
Now you have them enabled with the radio disabled but not in airplane mode
AWESOME. That solved it. Thank you!!
One quick follow-up question. Once I turn the radio off, if I pull down the drop down menu, it says "Looking for Service." I am assuming it is NOT using battery to look for service, even though it says that, right??
Actually, AFAIK, if you turn on Airplane mode, and THEN turn on Bluetooth and WiFi, the cell radio will still be off, but BT and WF will work still. At least WiFi works for me like that.
No. Bluetooth will not work on the hero. At least on every Fresh ROM I've ever had, you cannot turn on bluetooth in airplane mode . . . maybe wifi, but that is less important to me.
I finally found a app that works. Download Network by Philipp Mangelow in market. Start the app, scroll down until you see "turn off radio" button and press. After that just exit the app, activate bluetooth and the radio stays off. Works perfectly on my Transform. Let me know if this works for you!

OK, this ide was stolen from a guy at the norwegian forum www.windowsmobile.no: Can't somebody who knows what they're doing program a small app that can be set to turn on BT and WLAN whenever the unit is turned on? Then I'd be very happy, at least!

I am pretty sure this is working for my SX66.
I first manually turned off Wireless and Bluetooth. Then restarted my PDA, which both Wireless and Bluetooth where off when it was done booting. I then went into ozBT and changed Wireless/BT from Default On to Defaul Off.
I was then going to restart the PDA but before I could Wireless and BT popped on!
I also turned off my PDA for a bit and Bluetooth was off - then it turned it's self back on.
Nice!
Someone needs to invite this guy over here and get him on the staff!

Visit ozBT project.
Read the above WEB PAGE!
I beg to differ! On my Qtek 9090 this has unforseen side effects for WiFi, so I have removed it. The BT wasn't that big a deal, I use WiFi a lot more. It doesn't log into my default network at once, like it does when I turn it on manually. Instead it either tries to log on to the other WiFi network I have in my house (don't ask), even though that's weaker and MAC blocked for the unit. And if it doesn't find that, it just stays on "searching". And even when searching it don't show the WiFi icon, it shows the GPRS icon all the time. So for my unit this is a dead end.
I tried this program. While it works, it wakes up your phone so that it can never sleep. This would kill your battery. I removed it.
After a full hard reset and installation I still have the same problems with this app. So as it is now it's not the answer to this problem, I'm afraid. Perhaps for SX66, but not for Qtek 9090.

i have downloaded this utility but i am still trying it with my head set while i am driving,,, and i hope it works
How can I avoid WM going to sleep when I'm transferring "big files" with WIFI ?
yes of course.. just in the battery menu configure that PDA doesn't go sleep..
cheers.
It's already done...
In fact, I'm using "Slide to unlock" (S2U2) and I'm trying to sync my RSS feeds with "pRSSreader" using WIFI. After a few minutes, the screen goes to black and wifi is disabled...
So I'm looking for a solution to get my update and lock after finish
Another possiblity: Keep WIFI activated when going to sleep....
I use this to ensure keeping skype and msn online via wlan... u will find the registry key somewhere here in this board if u like it like this (just be sure to turn wifi off when u dont need it for battery reasons)
Hey lemmings,
The easiest way is to install kaisertweak.
There is an option in the XML file under Wifi Standby Mode: Enable the function
Soft reset and you're done!

The WiFi turning off on me has bothered me on occasion. I looked and I don't see any WiFi settings on Kaiser Tweak. I'm using Version 0.4 if that makes any difference.
Thanks,
Jay
Viva Kaiser Tweak ! I've use it to enable Wifi Standby Mode.
Yea, I hate that. Good thing they made Kaiser Tweak! I would be a forever annoyed by the sim contact list showing. . Is there a solution to hid them forever?
Just changed this. Thanks!
My university has a log in for Wifi and I was tired of logging in everytime my phone went to standby. Now I'm always connected!
Battery hog though.

The wifi standby freezes the phone on the Tytn.
This morning my phone was working perfectly fine, steaming pandora and everything. I put it in my pocket for a while, and in the afternoon when I took it out, I have 5 bars of signal, but no data connection. The E or 3G icon just doesn't show up. I go to *#*#INFO#*#* then phone information, and find out that the data connection is turned off. So I press menu, and then "enable data connection." The 3G icon pops back up, but within 2 seconds, it disappears again. Then I try my SIM card in an old, phone, everything works perfectly, I try another AT&T SIM card in my Nexus, but same connection issue. Anyone else having this problem, or any fixed known?
Did you check your APN settings?
Yeah, APN setting are the same as this morning, and I made then to match the APN settings on the old phone that did work. I'm using the wap.cingular, settings...

Really? I guess I'll wait a little bit, and see how it turns out. I can't understand why the data connection works perfectly with my SIM card in another phone though....
I'm experiencing this right now too. I just use WiFI until it goes away.
Occasionally for work I have to use my Kaiser, and everytime this has happened, its been when I've switched SIM cards back and forth...
I have experienced this issue since installing the latest FroYo build. I find it usually starts when I turn on wifi and there is no wifi around. After that it just seems to kill the data connection. I moved back to Cyanogen since not having a data connection makes me very sad.
I've experiencing this since FRF83. I updated to FRF85B today and we'll see if this still happens. Although I think our cell tower might be screwy because my gf's Motorola Cliq running Android 1.6 or something, will experience the same thing.
Yesterday, while running FRF83 on my N1... her's was working fine and my neighbors N1 running FRF50 was working too. I couldn't get EDGE or 3G on Tmobile. A reboot fixed it so maybe it was a fluke. We'll see as time goes on.
I'm experiencing the same problem here.
data connection connects for a couple of seconds and disconnects, and also my Wifi gives me error. So i'm far a way from the internet
Do you guys use switch pro widget? I had the same thing happen to me today and I narrowed it down to the update for switch pro widget from this morning. Either uninstall it if you do have it or set one of your seven options to data and make sure it is turned on. I was flippin' out trying to figure out wtf happened to my phone! If you don't use switch pro, then good luck!

It turns out this widget was the problem for me. When I got rid of it my network went back to normal.
Hey Guys,
I saw many threads about this, nothing with Z1, and I can't figure out where is the problem.
Like the title says WiFi turn on by it self. I am on .136, no root, nothing, and I never saw this issue before, maybe because I leaved WiFi on all the time but now I have to use 4G to call people with Skype and I want WiFi Off, but I can't. All the time I leave my phone for few minutes WiFi appear to be On no matter what and my battery drain quickly.
I am sure is Android involved in this but how can I fix it?

Who knows? and what you mean?
They are not separated. For Google's location Section, if WiFi is Off Google will use Mobile network to determine my approximate location.
There is no reason to turn it on, or I missing something?

Thanx Mate, I finded that Battery Guru have the ability to manage my WiFi so I set it up like I like and it should not turn on anymore. I hope I will not come back here soon.
Thanx.
Not sure if it will control wifi but the app that controls connection and stuff could also be doing this. Like wren you put it to charge it whatever event is the trigger.

Hi everybody, as in the subject WiFi turns off itself on my girlfriends mini 2 when she leave home. I mean she leave home to work with WiFi on but when she comes back it is always off. She says she doesn't switch it off I think she is telling true as she probably don't even know how to turn it on and off she has no apps installed that could control WiFi module, could it be system or broken module? Anyone have same issue? Thx

Hi,
Just saw this.
Its like this: there's advanced options in Wifi settings, that allows you to control whether to turn off Wifi after long period of inactivity, I dont remember as of now ans I Im not close to my device, once Im close, I'll add a a screenshot.
Thank You
