UltraSonic SPen? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

Not sure where else to put it, but I think the new spen technology in the works for the note 4 is already included in the S5. I was looking through the values in the arrays.xml from the secsettings.apk and found this little string:
<string-array name="ultrasonic_range_entries">

@string/ultrasonic_long

@string/ultrasonic_middle

@string/ultrasonic_short

</string-array>
<string-array name="ultrasonic_range_values">

2

1

0

</string-array>
Just an interesting find considering they hadn't even got the patent for it or even clearance to use it by the time our phone was released.

Samsung is lazy. They make software that works through several of their current phones and is turned on or off as needed for that model. This probably just means that the Note 4 will be released with the same version of software.

I realised that a while ago. The weirdest part is they throw code in for a phone that may not even exist and then just leave the code there. Just doesn't make sense in my mind.

s730 for sale as is $200

I need to get a phone now, my old job took their SIM back, and I'm kinda sick of the non-3G speeds I get in the US on T-mobile.
Selling S730 as is for $200USD vs. $530USD new (the price is firm).
Problems: (it's not really horrible, but I must divulge the issues)
Alright... I'll be straight up... it's got some cosmetic problems.
-Small case crack no more than 1cm directly aligned with the home button and the green call button, by the underside of the slide-piece.
-dented speaker grate thing (speaker is absolutely fine)
-lower right scratch
-battery cover scratch
-top middle (near power button) scratched
What you can do: Buy and install a new case (black or gray) = $70
The Good Stuff:
-The phone is awesome.
-I give you my SkyFire beta account.
-Alcaline's WM 6.1 already flashed.
-NEMA 5-15 power cord (usb>adapter-ish plug) [that's the standard three-prong plug used North America)
-Original Box with nearly untouched manual and driver disc.
-I'll include a shiny/non-matte finish paperclip, a pen (black), a newspaper, a cup of hazelnut coffee (by mail) (lid included) (may leak) (non-premium blend) (optional), a gmail invite (just kidding, who wants that?).
Any takers?
I would buy but: I am in italy, would i have warranty? would the phone work here? Would cnn.cn ship here? Is installing a new case something you can do without having specific knowledge?
1) yes.
2) yes.
3) Yes, they ship worldwide.
4) yes. Instructions included. Warranty voided.
humm... i ain't gonna sell this thing huh? Maybe I should start lieing. Oh wait... I said that out loud.
If it is the Wings200 with US 3g hit me up and I'll probably take it.

Go back and read his first post, I draw your attention to the end of his first sentance, after the word THE and and before I.
I dont believe the Wings200 is out yet.
I'd take it if I didnt already have one... On the flipside which handset are you replacing it with? I would add a pic or two to show the lack of serious damage and that its still in good shape, tried ebay and other forums?
Hit me up in private pm, lets discuss it.

Hilarious.
I just bought a Touch from Sprint using the SERO (500 min + unlimited nights and weekends + "unlimited" data = $30/month). I would have waited for the Touch Pro aka HTC Raphael CDMA version, which is rumored to be coming to Sprint. But, knowing carriers, it probably won't be released until September 2009.
Pictures are a good idea. There really isn't serious damage.
I'm not in a desperate position for cash or anything (meaning $200 is more than fair, c'mon... i'm giving away Skyfire ); and depending on the outcome of this thread, I may just end up keeping it if/when I travel to Europe. Maybe I'll craigslist it.
Thanks for the advice, man. I've added enticing items to the offer: a paperclip, a pen, a newspaper, and a cup of coffee.
OoOo, nice choice, I thought about getting the touch but was dying for a full keyboard and the dual wasnt out yet. How do you find the touchscreen for everyday use with finger and stylus? (I cant remember if that one had a little stylus or if I am just confused).
Throw in a rubber band and a shoe lace and maybe Mcgiver will buy it
How could I pay you? How would you ship it? Would you include the new case in the package?
sorry for these many questions.

How can I tell if my battery is dying?

Since a couple days ago, I've started noticing that my battery would not charge above 51-53%.
Went to bed last night with 13% and I awoke to a 6%.
It was on the charger for the duration of the night, about 8 hours.
I took a little alcohol + cotton swab to the battery connectors. In case they were dirty. I removed my silicone case, to ensure a good contact.
It helped a little. As the battery went from 6% to 20 in about half hour time?!
Today, it won't go above 21-23% It's been charging for over 3 hours.
Could my battery be dying? Yes, I'm sure. I've read plenty of other pleas throughout the forum.
Are there any basic tests, or some app to check it out?
I searched the forums and found that 35H00132-01M is the part number for it.
I believe it's a 1400mAh, right?
I would rather NOT buy from ebay (one bad experience ruined everything).

EDIT:
I checked out Amazon, and found these two batteries. Both by HTC. I won't buy generic, even if it's cheaper.
this one
that one
I have NOT made any changes to my settings. No new apps. Nothing.
Anyone using a larger battery?
Which one? From where? Post link?
I wouldn't mind a bigger battery.
you should post your dumpreg file in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702167&goto=newpost
if you are using any of the newer pershoot's kernels.
but yes, if your battery wont even charge, i'd say its toasted.
@RogerPodacter: not using a custom kernel. just what came with TheOfficial 2.13.2.
I've read that thread, about the calibration. I have no idea how they are posting that data. I don't know how to do a dumpreg.
I know enough about ADB to get around, flash a new ROM, recovery in fastboot, etc. but I've never heard of a dumpreg.
Bought a battery for N1, but it's fake. Don't get screwed!
I failed to keep yall informed over the past few days.
Here's what happened:
Bought the battery ($29) from Amazon.
Sold by: CCMACCESSORIES
Paid for one day shipping ($28.94).
Package arrived, and I was thrilled!
Opened it up, and I think I have a counterfeit battery!!!
1.) I know HTC is based in Taiwan, so I would assume their OEM products are also from Taiwan, made in Taiwan. The Amazon battery was made in China.
2.) The thin black tight film that covers the battery is bubbled at the corners and edges. It does not appear to be tight against the battery when I compare it to my dead one from my Nexus. The bubbled film also made it a little more snug to insert.
3.) On the back of the packaging, this is printed, "WARNING: We recommend using only HTCOne Treo Original Accessories including batteries ... etc.". HTCOne?
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
So maybe I'm out my sixty-something dollars.
WHY $60? Battery was $29, and I paid nearly $30 more for one day shipping, as my original battery couldn't get it up past 10%.
If I get screwed, I got screwed.
I'd just hate for anyone else to go through this.
I emailed them Sat. Nov. 20, 2010 requesting a RMA number, as it says to do so under their return policy on Amazon.
***** ***** ***** ***** *****
EDIT: LMAO! I just caught that, "my original battery couldn't get it up", but I decided to leave it there \0/
I hate to say it but I bought two of those exact batteries and they are most definitely fake. Sorry.

Possibly searching for a bike

I've been considering purchasing a bike, though I do not know much about them. The little bit that I do know is just how to ride them from my dirty bike days 10 years ago. I know street bike are a complete different beast, I'm looking for something I can learn, including the mechanics off them. And was told when I get an endorsement that I cannot legally ride anything bigger than what I tested on, so I may want to find something of decent size to avoid headaches later.
found this, guy wants 1500 for it, but was just browsing ads, and am not set on getting anything yet.
http://spokane.craigslist.org/mcy/2346251944.html
Raleigh Burner with yellow mag wheels. My favourite bike...25 years ago.
Check on ebay
Most common recommendation I get is a cbr600
Check Honda (HMSI) bikes. About bike's mechanics I don't it is different to learn
I'd recommend taking an MSF course if you haven't rode for a while.
Personally I wouldn't suggest getting a SuperSport first. A 600rr might be a little much for a new rider, or a rider returning to bikes again.. seeing as they put out more than 100hp it could easily put you on your ass quickly if you make a mistake
I'm not saying 'omg don't get one cuz you'll die!11' - just that if you're confident in yourself and your riding skills then do whatever feels right.
Since you also wanna know the mechanics and everything getting a streetfighter (same type as the craigslist listing you posted) is probably what you'd want to aim for - fairings will be off, easier to access parts, make modifications, etc.
just my .02

[Q] Screen rez lower after swim

Took my Captivate for a fresh water swim in the lake this last Saturday. Was underwater for maybe two minutes before I discovered my error. Threw everything into a sealed plastic container of rice and baked it in the sun the rest of the weekend.
Amazingly, after I put the battery & SIM back in and plugged it into the charger Sunday night, it charged! Later, when I powered it up, everything was working!
However, upon closer inspection, the screen is covered with very fine, darkish horizontal lines from top to bottom, giving it the appearance of lower rez. The lines appear in the boot screens as well as the GUI.
Any thoughts on what's been trashed that would cause this?
Any hints to remedy this? Any hope that this is a software glitch I could remedy via a re-flash??
Running:
Baseband version: I9000XXJVU
Kernel version:
3.1.10_IcyGlitch_V14-B6_I896-I897

Sounds like your screen is toast. The LCD and Digitizer are fused together and will need to be replaced as one unit. I would say its time to pick up a used Cappy and sell that one for parts. Once they take a swim, there can be other issues that pop up later.
P.S. I have a rooted, unlocked one for sale on Ebay right now
Not the answer I'd hoped for, but definitely the information I needed. :good:
Thanks Red!
ps: going to pass on your ebay Cappy offer...time to start researching my next ATT contract phone. Hmmmm..... Galaxy S III, HTC One X, or dare I step over to the dark side and grab a iPhone 4S?

No problem. I'll be going SIII in the future. Most say you can't go wrong with SIII or the One X. If you want an Apple product, I believe the current rumor says iPhone5 in Sept.

[Q] NFC on the GS4A: the battery cover has nothing to do with it, right?

So, again I've got this dinged up GS4A I got for a great price (it was missing the original battery cover, original battery, and it has a spider-web crack in the screen but the digitizer is 100% functional) and I just realized it's supposed to be able to do some NFC stuff as well, and that the batteries for the GS4A (and the GS4 also) are supposed to have the NFC antenna built into the battery pack itself... but mine apparently isn't working at this point. It could be the one thing that's not functional with this dinged up device (because the previous owner dropped it), and I figured it's one of three potentials:
1) the NFC capability is dead because of some damage to the circuit or a broken lead someplace internally, or...
2) the missing battery cover (which I am trying to locate a replacement for but for whatever reason there are NO suppliers anywhere on the planet that have the Dive Blue battery cover which is a bit ridiculous) may provide some functionally in terms of an antenna (since there are two sets of contact points plainly visible on the back of the GS4A), or...
3) the battery I have - which I had to purchase from someone on craigslist because I was unable to find one anywhere here in Las Vegas, not even at Fry's Electronics which pissed me off - is a counterfeit one and it's missing the NFC antenna inside the battery packaging
At this point I don't know which one it is, could be just one, or two, or a combination of all three issues at the same time, I wish I knew for sure.
But can anyone else chime in and tell me that they have NFC functionality (reads tags, basically, and whatever else like programming them if you happen to have or use the rewritable ones like the Samsung TecTiles) with the battery cover removed and a real Samsung or third party replacement battery?
I keep thinking I'm just doing something wrong, but I've reset the GS4A several times in the past week for testing purposes, complete factory wipe (hold Volume Up/Home/Power to get the recovery menu, wipe data/cache/factory reset) and when I enable the NFC circuit I get nothing at all from any tagged items I have - a few library books from here in Las Vegas which use RFID tags which I've been able to read with other phones like the Nexus S in the past, and so on.
Sure would like to figure out why it's not working, but I'll just keep trying for now.
Thanks for any info anyone can provide...
I can confirm that NFC works without back cover and my third-party battery (Hyperion "Replacement For Galaxy S4/I9500") on SGH-I537 using tag from tagsfordroid.com.

Thanks for that, I'm confident this is perhaps a counterfeit Samsung battery but I haven't been able to get a real one anywhere here in Las Vegas for testing that aspect. I found another seller that claims to be using "the real thing" and I put one in and then enabled NFC and swiped it across a DVD from our library system directly on top of the embedded RFID tag and... nothing.
So I'm going to hold out hope that yes, it works when I have a real battery and not some cheap Chinese knockoff which I'm pretty sure is exactly what this one is. Hell, with a full charge on it it'll go from 100 to 90% in like 30 minutes of use, guess I learned my lesson the hard way from this experience and won't do that again.

I use these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BCJWYMU/ref=sr_sp-btf_title_1_4?qid=1378953720&sr=8-4
I regularly switch them out with my OEM battery and I really don't notice any difference. Plus you get 2 and a charger for less than $20

Thanks for the info, I may have to consider those, seems like a great price and having the charger would obviously make it easier to keep 'em both charged as needed. Heard some good and bad things about Hyperion so I'm on the fence again, same thing with Anker batteries as well - some folks love 'em to death, other people hate 'em with a severe passion.

Should note also that not all RFID tags can be read by all NFC phones. Depends on the type of tag and the type of reader. You should try it with an actual NFC tag to be sure!
Well, I realize that but I've been able to read the library tags (and others) with other Samsung Galaxy products (the Nexus S, the Galaxy Nexus, etc) so I can't imagine for some reason that Samsung just decided to break that functionality in my particular case, who knows. I'm sure it's the battery I purchased, will just have to wait and see. I'll be ordering either the Hyperion or Anker two-pack w/charger next week and will find out soon enough.
Sure hope they work...
