Recently Sony has launched the Kit Kat 4.4.4 on the T-Mobile Xperia Z1s. I have the Original 4.3 Jellybean Rooted. I would like to update but I downloaded the update thru my phone and it gives me the DEODEX menu I think is what it is called. I am a newbie or a beginner in this. I did the root myself reading and following steps. Is there anyone who can help me out because I know the Z1s comes with bootloader locked. I had to rooted not like many other phones with just one click or a few steps and its done. Please don't judge me or tell me What I should Do. I came here because I know you guys are the best and know WAY MORE BEYOND I know. Please Let me know how to update it with out loosing any info or root. I do not run custom roms, I have also always wondered what are those for, what do they do. But I do not modify anything on my phone but just the SuperSU that grants permission to certain apps that need root access.
Thanks.:cyclops:
You can't update it with root on it.
You need to flash stock rom or unroot to install update and then root it again if new firmware is rootable.

Hi guys, I've tried DooMLoRD's easy rooting Toolkit but it says that my firmware isn't supported. I've checked and there's no update available for the firmware in the UK on Orange at the moment. Does anyone know how I can root this? The only reason I want to root at the moment is to be able to hide and show the soft keys.

you could flash any firmware you want with the flashtool and root it afterwards
As stated above, you could update to the latest firmware via flashtool if you wanted to. There are various posts with stock firmware available in the general section. Then it would be possible to root with DooMLoRD's tool.
If you do not want to update, just use this to root - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31545627

This is for my curiosity and many other users who I know are wondering the same thing, I've searched for this, but can't really find anything that answers it to my satisfaction.
So I'm running 4.3, with build number .290
I want to root my phone, but I know I need to flash .534 back to my phone. As far as I know, THIS will stop my sim being recognised by the phone. Do I then need to ROOT the phone, and then flash .290 again for the sim to work again.
So which .290 flash will I use? Just the normal FTF file for .290?
Thank you, I'm an active contributor to the forum, but I like to be super sure about what I'm doing before I do it, and I gather many other users do. The reason I'm asking in such detail is because my phone was rooted before, I updated (by mistake) to 4.3 and then flashed back to .290 where it stopped my sim working. Took me a few hours to work out how to fix it, as the pccompanion wasn't working for me!
Thank you!

why don't you unlock your 4.3 rom and flash a recovery to root it ? would be easier

If you want to flash the firmware you have, follow this guide from part B to part C, then you will have a ftf copy of your current firmware.
About the root thing, downgrade to .257 then .534 so you don't have the IMEI and signal issues. Then root and OTA to .257 and then, if you get OTA update to .290 go for it, but some people said that you will only get partial root access.
So you will have to either flash a prerooted firmware or unlock bootloader and turn off Sony's RIC and then root the normal way.
To unlock bootloader, just follow the instructions here but don't forget to backup the TA partition using this guide.

Hi all,
Just updated to Sony's latest offering .266 and, obviously, lost ROOT access.
Has anyone any info on how to re-root? I am on a locked bootloader and cannot unlock it.
Please advise? I have lost all of my custom settings and cannot change until I have root access.

There's no root method for locked bootloader for 4.3 as for now. Or you can try the root method by sir @jancsessz tho you'll need to downgrade it back to 4.1.2. Didn't work for me tho but worth a try :silly:

Soo first you'd want to downgrade to 4.1.2 which can be easily done using flashtool
And then use Doomlord's method. This one is for .245 and .254
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405933
When you've done rooting you'll need CWM. Not sure about the original thread but here's the download link
http://d-h.st/Las
Extract and run the install.bat after rooting and you'll get both root access and CWM
Then follow the tutorial from earlier to update to 4.3 and voila! :victory:
It is a new update. Why are we so unpatience? Let the developers work on this!

Be patient my friend it just went out.Doomlord and the other developers will be working like crazy to root the new firmware and in about 3 days you are going to run 4.3 rooted
Hey guys, I'm just wondering if it will be available an easier rooting method for the Xperia SP with 4.3 for locked bootloader.
I saw the post in the forum, but I found that method very difficult for me
For unlocked bl? Just use custom kernel with recovery and flash supersu fix. Thats all.

hey, there is actually no easier way to root locked bootloader! but it is not soo complicated, just follow the instructions.
Just wait for NUT or Doomlord to release an exploit to directly root 4.3

Yeah, that's what I wanted to hear. I saw the rooting method posted but I just know how to use flashtool,no more. Let's see if it is available y a couple of weeks or so
Once you have all the downloads in place it only takes twenty minutes to root the latest fw. Not a big deal imo. Remember that the last 4.1 build didn't have an exploit, it's possible that there won't be a way to easily root for the new build...

Indeed, the LAST 4.1.2. As you may know, this is the first firmware version of 4.3. Doomlord's exploits did work on the first version of the firmware (4.1.2) directly too (.211 etc).
Sir may i ask
Im not sure if im in the right thread bout this.
Ive tried rooting my Xperia SP using DoomLord procedure i was able to do everything correctly

Check the step correctly
You have to keep USB debugging and Unknown Sources (setting > security > unknown sources tick box) ON before running the root toolkit.
Then give a try

Agree - at least not on my XSP on stock 4.3
My wife, on the other hand, has a sony ericsson ray, updated to 4.0.4 firmware. Rooting it was a breeze (with Eroot) - less than 1 min.
She is as happy as a lark when I got rid of the Japanese and Chinese keyboards for her
...and a few other stock wares that cluttered her phone.
Interestingly - superuser (the default) works better in the SE Ray than supersu (lags)
Q
Yup ive tried does step correctly no doubt but i toolkit says that superuser wont pushed phone restarts but the superuser app wasnt there
Happened many times with me,
First I flashed .257 kernel on .254 then run the doomlord easy rooting tool kit v18, then it was rooted, then flash the .254 kernel again, these are the steps to be followed.

You can always flash an official Sony kernel with a locked bootloader.
Hello all,
Im totally confused as to how to go about rooting my device c6902. Ive owned a couple of android devices and Ive rooted them all, however....with this device and there seem to be different ways people have rooted from reading the threads and im totally confused, So far I have unlocked the bootloader, and upgraded the device OTA to lollipop .242 (before the bootloader was unlocked), I dont intend installing any custom firmware, just want root so I can use TB and maybe delete a few bloatwares with root explorer and use xposed.
Im confused as to whether:
1. I have to downgrade firmware to kitkat, just to get root, then upgrade back to official firmware?
2. Ive been under the impression that a custom recovery and supersu, is enough to get root. It doesnt work that way on this device?
3. I saw some oneclick root programs that worked on the z1 compact would any work here
Just trying to know more about the phone and understand, so any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Using the guide on the link I just posted, you are not required to unlock the bootloader, unlocking the bootloader without backing up the TA partition can cause problems with your phone.
You need to downgrade to KitKat 4.4.4 with kernel 108, then root it with easyroot install supersu and rootchecker to make sure your phone is rooted, the use NUTs recovery to create a recovery partition, after that search XDA forums for a pre-rooted lollipop flashable zip and install that, and voila you should be on lollipop with root and recovery.
I am not sure about one-click root programs.

Thanks for your help.
I already unlocked the bootloader though. Do I need to downgrade the whole kitkat rom or flash just the kernel? thanks
Figured out. Thanks
