I am trying to find ou t how to force the moto x to connect to verizon LTE band 4 or 13 only. Is there a way to force which LTE band the moto x would use?

4.4 on my Verizon Dev X appears to give me AWS LTE... I say that because I get LTE signal when using my T-Mobile USA SIM in my X. And T-Mobile supports Band 4, not Band 13.

4.4 VZ Dev Ed gives me band 4 LTE with a TMo SIM. Have yet to try it since flashing a EU 4.4.2 file (kept my 4.4 VZ radios, so I can't imagine it would change much, but Play Store recognizes my device as XT1052 now, which I find funny).
What app do you use to check the band?

I have nothing that will display the LTE Band. I would love to find one that does.
For me, its process of Elimination.. VZW X initially supported LTE Band 13, which T-mobile doesn't support. T-Mobile does support LTE Band 4, which is the only other VZW LTE Band. (VZW lists Band 13 and 4 on their page for the X). Since I get LTE with my T-Mobile SIM it must be LTE band 4.
If you get T-Mobile LTE in any device, it supports AWS LTE, period.
I understand the process of elimination but on my SGS3 it would give me a band number (Band 13 in my case) but my Moto X gives me no band number. Is there a way to find out what band it is actually connected to?

As far as I know, no, not on vanilla Android. I also own a Galaxy S4 and what you're talking about is integrated into TouchWiz.
The Moto X used to tell you what Band it was on...this was prior to the Kitkat update. After that, I have been unable to find an app that tells me what band it is using. If anyone else has ideas, let me know. (BTW I am not rooted.)

The phone will work with WIFI. You need a GSM phone, not a CDMA phone, if you want cellular reception.
-deleted.
(I didn't realize the O.P. was asking about a US Cellurar Moto X, which apparently may have a crippled GSM radio.

Thanks for your response. I will stay back from buying as there is no point having a device with broken wifi. .

While this wiki page -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_X indicates the XT1055 does support 850/900/1900/2100 UMTS/HSPA, the FCC docs don't list any UMTS/HSPA/WCDMA tests, only CDMA, LTE, and Wifi. And US Cellular's web site doesn't list UMTS/HSPA as supported either. So I'm not sure. Reading THIS FCC doc for the XT1055 indicates only CDMA 800/1900, LTE Bands 4, 5 and 12 only. No mention of UMTS/HSPA/WCDMA.
UMTS and HSPA will be needed if you want faster than 2G speeds on GSM networks.
one other thing I'm unsure of, if the US Cellular X (XT1055) is SIM unlocked for GSM.

Thanks. It is very strange that Moto X comes in different model by network and confusing which one to choose from for the GSM networks like in the UK.
Motorola Moto X XT1058 for AT&T
Motorola Moto X XT1053 for T-Mobile
Motorola Moto X XT1052 for Europe
Motorola Moto X XT1056 for Sprint
Motorola Moto X XT1060 for Verizon
Motorola Moto X XT1055 for U.S. Cellular

This is because of the different frequencies in use by location, and by carrier as well in the case of the USA...
I would be been nice if Moto could have made one GSM version that supported all GSM/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA/LTE frequencies around the globe, and then the CDMA variants (like Verizon, Sprint and US Cellular) as needed.
From that list, most would probably say... XT1052 or XT1053 for use in Europe, but keep in mind the XT1053 would be missing some LTE bands and/or UMTS/HSPA bands that are likely used in Europe.
XT1058 could also work, but you can't unlock its boot loader, and you'd have to watch out for one or two bands not being there.

[Q] XT1053 T-mobile band 12 support

So apparently the Moto X t-mobile variant (XT1053) supports US bands 4 and 17 LTE (and band 2), and has an amplifier for bands 12/17, which are disabled by default. I was wondering if there is any way to flash/modify the radio to enable band 12 for tmobile? Has anyone actually attempted to do so?

I have not tried this but it looks interesting.

No one has unlocked "hidden" bands on a Moto X to date.

The XT1050 is a CDMA/GSM variant with the same FCC ID as the XT1060 (Verizon) variant.
It supports the following frequencies..
CDMA = 800/1900
GSM/GPRS/Edge (aka 2G/2.5G) = 850/900/1900/2100 MHz
UMTS/HSPA (aka 3G) = 850/900/1900/2100 Mhz
HSPA+ (aka 4G) = 850/900/1900/2100 Mhz
4G LTE = Band 4 and 13.
When using on GSM carriers, it will get the fastest connection based on what the phone supports vs what the carrier uses.
In the case of ATT, since they don't use LTE band 13, and rarely use LTE band 4, you usually wont get LTE with this hardware. Only HSPA+ (represented by either H+ or 4G), or UMTS/HSPA (represented by 3G or H), Edge (represented by E).
The settings in the rom you are using will dictate if HSPA+ is represented by H+ or 4G.
And Keep in mind that 4G via HSPA+ is not the same as 4G via LTE, hence 4G vs 4G LTE symbols.
Flashing the rom from another model phone will not enable support additional frequencies or bands. (i.e. flashing the XT1053 firmware will not enable additional bands)
If you want 4GLte on ATT you need either the XT1058, or the XT1053. Just keep in mind the XT1053 lacks LTE band 5 and 7. ATT is starting to roll out LTE on band 5 in a few areas.
Only 3g worked with the xt1050 then when I put the 1053 ROM in I got 4g I heard that some lte bands in the moto phones did not work .....but thank you for your help

You said "4g lte only 4g" and "when i install cy mod in the phone or another rom i only get 3g or h+"
I was explaining to you why.
UMTS/HSPA (designated by 3G or H) = 3G
HSPA+ (desginated by 4g or H+) = Non-LTE 4G
"some lte bands in the moto phones did not work" because of the different hardware variants of the Moto X. Flashing a different Stock Rom (with its modem files) will not change the hardware capabilities, but it can/will change what "graphic" or "symbol" is used for which type of coverage/connection you have.
i.e. If the phone shows 3G or H, its indicating the same thing. UMTS/HSPA connection. If the phone shows H+ or 4G, its showing you have a non-LTE 4G connection.
I won't get h+ with the other ROMs only h and that stands for 3g then I install the stock ROM from my phone I get 4 g and did a speed test getting about 17 megs when I first got the phone I put sim in would not get anything just wanted the phone for parts but tried this because it was locked on the person old number in the CDMA with alltel/Verizon I know there was a chance I can break the phone

Don't forget, it could also be in the APN settings being used for your GSM carrier (unless you are always entering the same manually).
can you tell me how you flashed a different ROm on the XT 1050 .. i have one but the APN doesnt sit
