Hi.
I've been notified by my carrier it is NOT letting Lumia phones further than Black firmware.
I'd like to know if it's still possible to install it by myself, because I noticed a lot of apps I'd like to use are not available on Market because of my carrier.
I am aware and really don't care about voiding the phone's warranty because it's not really worth it (I'd rather pay for a repair instead if resorting to my carrier's tech dept).
What I really need is for someone to shed some light on this because it's a bit frustrating.
My phone is a Lumia black and my carrier is Antel (nokia's web says cyan will be available next week, but that's how it's been for weeks so...).
Thanks in advance for any advice, guideline, workaround and/or suggestions.
Martin
Go read the stuff on unbranding your phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515453). Flash a different carrier's ROM onto your phone, and not only will you get the firmware updates, you might even get features that were being blocked before!
Sorry for bumping this. Thank you very much for the answer, I have long unbranded my phone. Now it would be nice to desimlock it, because I'm about to leave the country and would love to take my Lumia with me... Just asking, I've got plenty of time ahead so I'll just leave this post here and keep suscribed to it while I do some research.
Thanks XDA people!

I just got the AT&T Tilt last Friday and have found myself pondering if it was worth the $300.00? I am thinking about taking it back because it seems to buggy. The phone its self is good looking but WM6 is just ugly compared to the iPhone interface. Anyways what do you think?
If aesthetics are you main concern, sure go with an iPhone. I like functionality over appearance, so I love my tilt!
yes it worth it, there is soooooo many apps that u can add, you can even upgrade from that cingular rom, i havent seen anyone with my tilt yet
Now come on... this is getting beyond a joke....You have an At&T Tilt, not a 'HTC TyTnII'
Please disclose your business affiliations as I am POSITIVE you are associated with apple as this is getting really stupid!
Who buys a very expensive phone without research then suddenly comes on this forum and denouces it within a few weeks without really trying it??
I am amazed!!!
OH, BTW I am not associated with HTC in any way and I find it a 100% piece of kit for what I wanted.
Amazing how many times you see "is it worth it to me" on forums. Who else but you could possibly answer if it's worth it to you???
hahahaha good point, Farsquidge......iphone=downgrade
First off I do not work for AT&T!!! I am a high school student that spent alot of time doing research on this phone! I love my "'HTC TyTnII" or whatever you want to call it! I only called it the Tilt for the simple fact that its branded name is the AT&T Tilt. This has to be the most unfriendly forum I have ever been on!
Dude you need to chill out. Swearing will get you banned. Everyone has their opinions about the iPhone and the Tilt. If you don't like someone else's opinions, just ignore them.
Personally I love the Tilt. The iPhone just doesn't do enough for me. Yes, it has a very nice interface but in the end, function wins over form.
If you want a pretty phone, go with the iPhone. If you want one that you can easily hack and tweak and load tons of 3rd party apps on, get the Tilt, but it is your choice to make, not ours to make for you.
In the end, you have to live with your choice.
P.S. I absolutely love my Tilt. It runs rings around the iPhone and I don't have to worry about Steve Jobs making my life difficult by not letting me do what I want with it.
Thank you. I think I will stay with my Tilt.

Please don't give up.. I know some of us (me for one!) can be a little short tempered with what is around on this forum at the moment (flaming the device!) but all of us on here would like to try to help you futher your unit!
I am sorry if I seemed to shoot you down at the start...
Let's move on from that...
You say you have a 'Tilt', first thing we can recommend is re-flashing your ROM to a HTC TyTnII as the AT&T is a very basic firmware but when you do this you will lose your AT&T settings ( that is your 3G HSDPA connection). Then you will need the latest Network settings cab.. Then lets move on from that!!! OK?
There are so many different roms witch is the one I need to use?
True, there are many. I like the att rom. it's not that bad. i just removed all of the bloatware on it by doing a soft reset after the hard reset and that freeed like 20 mb or so. btw, if you want to run different roms on the tilt, you must cid unlcok your tilt.
We need a few bits of info to start you off.
First, tell us the device (I know it may seem strange but we need to know who you bought it from ie At&T or whatever as this forum is worldwide!!)
Then when you first turn on the phone (turn it off by holding the power button!) try to get the OS and Radio versions it has. You may need to do this a couple of times as it disappears quickly.
If I am not online you will find loads of guys willing to help....
You have come into a great community that will work with you so long as we get the correct info...
I bought it from an AT&T store. The numbers are R1.27.12.11 G22.445.88.07h D1.57.00.00.
I need the same help here, thanks in advance
I will follow this thread since I have the same phone, same radio and OS, I'm very interested in getting a better ROM to see what are the PROS.
OK guys, have a good read at the WiKi...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
Especially at the 'How to flash a new ROM' section. It will give you a good aspect of what you will be doing..
I should have my tilt in a few days ( Amazon is the worst!). So I have been going around trying to gather as much information as possible on how customize my phone....Farsquidge, if I change my tilt interface to the TyTn11 interface I will lose my 3g? Also what is the benefit of changing? Also, I met alot of people who told me of good apps for my phone but is there a site where I can go where there is alot of apps with discriptions of what they do?

If you re-flash your 'Tilt' (as it is an AT&T carrier device) you will lose your AT&T connection settings.
You will end up with a 'Carrier free' device with (or) without sim unlock depending on the way you do it. You will then have to re-install these with a 'Network profile app' from this forum. You will find plenty of apps (in the form of .cab files) on here to keep you happy for ages!
Be patient because there are tons of guys on this forum who have reflashed their devices that will add their input to help you. No one is online all the time but will get to you when they can.
Thanks. The more I look on different forums, the more confused I get. I'm not to phone/computer savy so I have to do some research on the simple words and terms used up here. Thanks alot.
It takes a long time to get up to speed, I'm not close yet. Personally, I don't have a problem with the ATT rom, I guess b/c I haven't seen a flashed one to compare it to. I've added a bunch of fun/useful programs from this site, FFF and IMSMS are great ones and all the home customizations are very cool. The other day, I was beaming IMSMS to a friend. A stranger passing says "oh are we showing off our phones?" and yanks out his iphone hoping we'd be impressed. I said, "nope just beaming a file, do you want it too? Oops, guess you can't do that" You could see him deflate immediately. The iphone is neat to look at, but is so lacking in features and customization it's sad.
i just got my upgrade, to the att HTC tilt 2 (opened the box today). when i upgrade i always research, i read about software issues to stock units and a couple ppl spoke of mods. i don't know the language of mods, but i learn fast. i need to know a few basic terms, procedures and what i need to speed up and stop the error msgs i have gotten multipule times just today. which mods are the most user friendly and least glitchy. thank you to all in advance.

look around in the rom sections and use the "search" function without hesitation.
also search around before posting a question or request, to avoid reposts and nuisances.
hope this helps

Heya Hippie! And congrats on a great device. I've had my Tilt 2 for about 9 months now and just keep loving it more and more. What are you looking to do to the fone besides stop the error messages? Lemme know, I can give you any help you need. Or you can email me directly or leave me a message on here. I've learned what to look for and also to watch out for, but as anyone here will tell you, we all have differences of opinions, likes and dislikes. Also depending on your taste and how far you'd like to go with your device will vary how far we can go. To get rid of any error messages, which one I can guarantee says: need NETCF.Messages.EN.wm.cab (May not include the ".cab") That's one I ran into a lot before I got a ROM from the threads here. I promise you Hippie, anything you may need will most likely be here on XDA-Developers. This is a great site with many awesome people. As the previous post mentions, use the search at the top. It will help you a great deal!!
Good Luck!!
Jeremy
thanks, panther. I found on the HTC website that they recomend replacing touchflo 3d with sense, which i did and thought i'd give it a try. error messages are gone but it still has a few things i don't like about it. so i think i may try something new when i get the time to. i see your configurations and i think i'll start there, seeing how you are happy with it. then i'll go from there if i want to try something else
I'm completely new to HTC, but not Android (so that's N00b status again), and I have a Developer's Edition coming tomorrow. I'm assuming that I will not need to bother with the process of unlocking the bootloader via htcdev due to it (supposedly) being already. My next issue is, will I be able to root/s-off/supercid using the most common methods mentioned (HSoon's toolkit, etc.) in the threads here? Some of them are dated, and it does look like they are trying to keep devs on their toes with this one. Also, any advice for what carrier I should go with is MUCH appreciated. I'm leaning T-Mobile, but also hearing things about how their LTE bands are limited in the US right now. Again, I'm not trying to flash a custom rom (yet), I only want to completely unlock it, and I was wondering if I've left anything out. I've already got the SDK, the fastboot files, all that from the suggested threads, for sending any command codes I might have to. I guess I would just like to know if anyone's been in my shoes here, to let me know what to expect. Then again, the fun is in getting right, anyway, isn't it? Sorry if I rambled or my tech speak was off, but I think I've read up pretty well on this phone, and this is the night cap on the studying. Thanks to every one of you for reading and the time and knowledge you give us on this technology. -Mike
Hi, my name is Sarah Beland.
I spent way too much time trying to fix my phone, I'm putting up the white flag... don't have anymore time to try and fix everything for myself, and by myself.
I'm looking for no bull efficient help... one I'm willing to pay for in money or other? whatever. I'm starting my own business and need this phone to work correctly, which it does, however, it's stuck in a developer, multi carrier, multi firmware, multi OS development insider programs with upgrades, downgrades that I've lost track of what I actually got.
The phone is a Nokia Lumia 1020 that I bought with the supposed attributes (unlocked, developer)
I've flash it. I've been in the developer program from Microsoft, and I'm had Rogers Canada and Bell Canada on it.
I'm willing to supply any info required to get it to a uniformed and latest firmware/OS together... hoping for Cyan or Denim + and need in all situations for the camera to work!
Is anyone interested?

Thank you, I've done that already, I must of messed up somewhere, as the camera, after that tutorial, still doesn't work...
Ok, might bring it to a shop? I thought, as huge forum of developers, someone would be able to give insight, a little bit more involved helping and people who make a living developing software for hardware, than simply blindly pointing to a tutorial, that In any situations, always tries to fit all into one.
Maybe, some people, who need help, aren't stupid, or have time for this... For some people, spending hours frustrated, isn't fun, or productive. Maybe I did mess up somewhere, however, I was willing to pay... I clearly expressed in my original post, that I DONTT HAVE TIME TO BE DOING THIS... over and over again, following a linear path, that is accompanied by a thousand people asking why the linear tutorial didn't work for them...???, And the constant answer, is, go back, you messed up, try again.
I don't want to go down that rabbit hole!!!
Thanks.

Well the flashing procedure is the same for all Lumia handsets, and it is described in detail in the thread i directed you to, if you already flashed as described there and the camera isn't working i'd try getting the handset in a Care point, as at this step there isn't anything you or anybody else on this forum can do to help you, there might be a HW failure.
Alright so i bought a used galaxy s20 FE but apparently the owner before it didnt remove the google account. i cant get ahold of the guy anymore, so now i basically paid 400 bucks for a brick. ive been trying for a while to figure out a way to fix this, but i dont know much about phones. think i mightve been scammed tbh, but i paid in person and dont have any data on the guy. basically im screwed besides if i can get this to work. i thought maybe i could flash custom firmware and that could fix it, but for that id need to unlock the bootloader and i obviously cant access the device.
im super pissed and really dont know what to do anymore. ebay customer protection cant help either because i paid in person. im praying that any of you can help me. since i cant access the phone i dont know what security patch its on, but probably the most recent one.
not everyone will feel the same way but many people would be reluctant to offer advice in these situations.
if you have nothing to fear, visit a phone repair shop, tell them your story and leave them your full ID info.

Yeah that makes sense. Shouldve thought about that. Probably not very legal what im asking here. ill try in a phone shop as you recommended, and thanks for the input
Really make more change, if you consider the same "Carrier" Store, that You are planning to get your service from,
They can get it fixed for you, with latest software updates and ... Just have to find "That Person"
FWY- be nice! Be polite. Be 100% not you. These folks don't care. They dont have too. But, I know for fact, when you have the time, try it. I certainly think, it may be your only chance. So being nice, and polite, will get far, even more so, when you might say " Hey, I can wait...no problems"!!!
