Hello,
My TB is not rooted. What do you think is the best app for doing wireless tethering? Setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot, I guess.... I'm using a windows 7 PC.
Just do a search for "tether" in the Google Play Store.. I'm rooted.. but the free "clockworkmod (no root)".. looked like it might do the trick, it uses Usb instead of WiFi.
I found the stock app from Verizon to work well before they axed the ability to use it without paying for the service. It was very easy to set up the SSID and password and even monitor the connected devices IIRC.
Root ur phone ur missing out on so much

Thanks for the replies!

I tried out clockworkmod's Tether. It works pretty well, although it does disconnect every once in a while, and it's USB, so my bandwidth is limited by that. Also, it's not as convenient as WiFi.

Yes, this is kind of the type of thing I'm looking for. Not Verizon though.

I'm not quite ready to root this phone yet. But when I do, what would you recommend for a WiFi tether?
Have you tried 1-Click Wifi Tether No Root?
If you go to the play store and search no root tether, it should be the second option down.
I know several people who use this and are satisfied with it.
If you do root your phone in the future, I recommend either WiFi Tether for Root Users or Barnacle WiFi Tether.

I usually use the default one on the custom ROM or wireless tether which both work very nicely and run smoothly.

1-Click Wifi Tether No Root apparently does not work on HTC phones. If anyone knows a workaround to this, please let me know, as 1-Click Wifi Tether No Root seems to be a great app.
And thanks for the info about the rooted apps -- I may try them in the future
I forgot about that. Lol. They don't have HTC phones.
Anyways, just search no root tether in play store and try what's available.
Good luck.

Unfortunately, there seems to be NO way to utilize the WiFi Hotspot Tether on HTC Thunderbolt anymore, rooted or not.
All of the existing WIFI tether apps do not do anything on HTC Thunderbolt. I've tried them all, on multiple ROMs.
The ONLY things I've found that still work are the PRO versions of EasyTether and PdaNet, via USB cord.
I'm still trying to get the bluetooth tether for PdaNet to work, but so far without much success.
I can't wait until next year to get a new phone that I can actually root and wifi-hotspot again.
According to the Foxfi app it's an HTC block not TB specific. That being said I blue tooth tether with no issues at all both CM7 and with Sense roms. I don't even use a special app with CM7 just make devices discoverable and pair, BAM! some native Bluetooth tether automatically kicks in on CM7 and with Sense I use the Foxfi app and follow the blutooth tether instructions. Make sure your devices have tun.ko installed (use tun.ko installer app in the play store). My tablet didn't (asus transformer tf101) so I had to and root is required to do it.

Are you talking about using the stock Verizon WiFi hotspot?
I can work wireless tether perfectly on my (rooted) tbolt... but I don't use the stock Verizon app.

Just checked and Open garden teather works fine on my rooted Tbolt.
It had tried a number of others in the past and they had issues tethering my Asus tablet. Open Garden was about the only one that worked.

What has changed that does not allow tethering? My friend said she was able to tether all the time and now she can't. Says she is on the same ROM (bamf) and has not made any changes,
I have no issues with my wireless tether.

For some reason I cannot wifi tether either. I am running Synergy. None of the wireless tethering apps I have tried have worked for about a week now. I used to use Wireless Tether with no issues. Now I have to go back to PDANet and USB. Any ideas anyone?????

Same here, I'm at 60gigs and counting. I think the most I've use back in Jan was 145 gigs. My wireless tether works just fine without an issue. Something must be wrong with script on those peoples phones that can't use wireless tether on rooted Tbolt.

Hi there guys,
Which ROMS are you running on your TBolts? I am running Synergy, and like I say it was working up until a couple of weeks back, and now no go. Perhaps I need to switch ROMS or something. I find it strange that several of us are having issue. At any rate, it is very interesting indeed.
Thanks in advance,
Stat

I have a Droid 3 rooted running Mavrick rom 4.5 based on android version 2.3.4. On a Verizon unlimited contract.
I used to use the android tether app all the time, but when I tried to use it today it started but when i opened a browser, Verizon asked me to pay for tethering. I use the WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.2-beta2 version.
After doing some research I found that this is an old issue from 2011, but i'm positive i've used this app since then. I'm not sure . Is there some sort or fix for this? or is there a better app that creates a hotspot/ad-hoc network such as this one??
Please if this has been answered, excuse my ignorance, and point me in the correct direction.
Thanks so much
Chris
Try toggling airplane mode on then off while tethering or just download foxfi free in the market works well

I agree. I am running Mavrom 4.5 with .906 base on Verizon and use Foxfi to bluetooth tether to my Asus Transformer tablet all the time. Give foxfi a try.

Yes I installed the fox fi app and had to toggle the airplane mode button, but works well.
Thanks
I already have tried tethering mod through SQLeditor but it doe not seem to wotk.

Anything not based on Stock Roms will work.
Stock Bell & Mex Retail enable tethering but block turning on WiFi and tethering that to USB, but I think WiFi hotspots still work with those (Bell/Mex ICS/JB -- don't bother with ATT Stocks, they suck ).
As far as using WiFi to USB tether to a PC far from the router (I do this every day), any Custom, Non-Stock will work.
WiFi hotspots should work on any Rom that's not Stock ATT -- I used Bell ICS to Wifi Tether my Defy to 4g during my last camping trip....PowerAmp needed to verify the license @ 11pm when I was on my 3rd bottle of wine....surprisingly easy to do drunk
I have root now and would like to get Tethering working. I have rooted all my android phones in the past and used Tether apps but have yet to find any that will work that I have used in the past. I have tried root packages Wifi Tether Router,, did not work. the one from trevor.e.. @gmail.com
See my settings below .
I tried wifi_tether_v3_3-beta2.apk. did not work.

Setup Method: Netd-NDC (master)
Send Netd Max Client Cmd: Check

Can you please let me know of anyway to Wifi Tether with Root on this Galaxy Note 3 N9005A that you have successfully configured to work.
I don't foxi or any like it. Please Help I appreciate it.
I just used the built in tethering option of android. When the AT&T pop up comes up just hit the home button. Then go back to the settings and it will work.

Not on AT&T without adding the feature and charging additionally for it.
I know Verizon does it for free after the FCC case about the LTE bandwidth.
I've always done the workaround with the wife tether apk... I'll keep trying and searching.

Like other people said, use FoxFi or the native android app. When the box comes up that says call ATT don't push OK, just hit the home button. You now have a wireless access point.

Not sure if this is an old trick or not but hitting home doesn't work. The phone says I have an active wifi network but it is not broadcasting (AT&T is killing any broadcasting).
Hello community,
I have searched and tried and done everything possible. I am currently a new HTC One user. Just bought a TMO USA version of the device. I have rooted the device also. Still on the stock rom with bulletproof kernel btw. Is there an easy method to unlock the APN's while on stock rooted rom? Or can someone suggest a good Rom that still is stock but with unlocked APNs?
THanks and thanks will be given to any suggestions.

If so you can Google then download fdroid then do a search for WiFi tether since you are rooted.
It allows me to tether my laptop or tablet on trips.

go to play store and download a wifi tether app. the one i use is called wifi tether for root users by Muller, Lemons, Buxton. It works flawless .. the only thing is that only pc's can use the net .... you won't be able to connect any cellphone to your phone.
Thanks so much fellas but I finally figured it out last night. I downloaded APNMANAGER from play store and was able to remove the hidden "tether" APN that is in the stock ROM since I have root.
