Soft bricked stock TMO D959 w/ no recovery/download mode - LG G Flex

First off -- My friend Joe bricked his phone, not me; I'm just the poor schmuck trying to help him fix it.
What happened?
Joe lacks the terminology to adequately explain what went wrong, but I believe I've narrowed it down to two possibilities:
The phone was undergoing a system update and he restarted it before it completed, or it ran out of batteries
The phone completed the update normally, but the update was bad and the rom is corrupt now
The phone is completely stock (what a shame?) and is now boot looping. We can get the phone into "hard reset mode" and "hardware key control mode" using the methods described here. Unfortunately we cannot get the phone into "download mode" or "recovery mode" (which sounds similar to the poor Ukrainian dude a few threads up).
We did try running the factory reset, but unsurprisingly, it's still boot looping. Hopefully that wasn't a bad idea . . .
What I've looked at thus far
Reflashing stock? I doubt this would work, because how could I get the phone to take the file?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2644083
Stock boot and recovery, but same problem: how do I get it to take the files?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2666763&page=7
I've been reading for a little over an hour now without finding anything that looks promising. Any help anyone can provide would be awesome. Thanks!!

The new flash tool (not the offline method) should do it
---------- Post added at 02:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:08 PM ----------
If it was updating to kitkat 4.4.2 then you won't have a download mode to go into. And I'm not sure if the LG flash tool can do anything if it's not in download mode. But it's worth a shot. But if the phone is bone stick no root then have your friend return it to T-Mobile under warranty. For $5 they will send another one out overnight FedEx and he'll have to put his bad one in the box the new one comes in to return it. Warranty replacement.

Take it to T-Mobile. There is no fix for that. I spent 2 days working on the same issue with no success. Fortunately lg fixed it for me (I assume haven't received it back yet)

try a forced shutdown

Thanks mattwheat and kintwofan!
I had Joe stop by the T-mobile store today. Apparently they'd given him a hard time over the phone, but were far more polite in person. They said they'd have a replacement in tomorrow.

[Q] Stuck on logo screen suddenly. Ideas?

Hi,
Last night my Galaxy S was low on battery, and I kept trying to turn it on for it to die right away (it was working as expected I guess)
This morning after I charged my phone it wouldn't turn on at all! It loads to the logo screen, makes that jingle sound and then holds and doesn't turn on.
I can get to recovery and download mode.
I put OCLF on like 2 months ago, but haven't modded/flashed ANYTHING since. It is very bizarre how it just died.
I'm wondering what my options are now. Obviously I would rather not loose all my personal files. Since I can get into download mode, can I just flash a new firmware? I'd like FroYo anyway, but I haven't got a clue what to do.
Great start to the year – !
Cheers,
Mitch
EDIT: I just decided to try the "Clear User Cache" option and then reboot to no avail. Now I can't get back into recovery mode!?!? Download mode still works. Huhh?? Is this expected? Have I lose Recovery Mode entirely now? Crap.
seeeems like an odin flash via the download mode is the only way. There are a few tutorials on this site and even tut vids on youtube so you should be fine if you just follow everything they do (as long as it works for them of course)
How do I know what version to flash? I have read a few tutorials and they all have started with "Dial x and check you have y" etc. Obviously I can't do any of that.
What is the *safest* firmware I can flash?
My phone currently has some optus variety.
Please forgive the noodish question.
Mitch
Where are you located? And who is your provider?
Hi,
I'm in Sydney Australia and my provider is Optus.
Thanks
Hi,
I still can't get my phone working and am not clear how to proceed.
What would be the best firmware to flash to my Optus Galaxy S that bricked out of the blue? Should I just send it back to Samsung?
Thank You

Hey mate go to samfirmware and get I9000DTJG4 thats the stock optus rom once you get phone up and running then upgrade to 2.2.1.
Sounds like you'll need to do a flash of a stock rom..
By the way, the old oclf had some issues that might lead to system corruption (unfortunately I'm not very sure exactly what it does, or whether it could lead to this problem). I'd suggest getting one of the newer lag fixes available here when you do get your phone running again

tragusman has got it right. Depending on what the issue is, you'll either recover nicely or your phone is toast. Flash the above stock firmware and give it a shot. Note that you'll likely loose your data and settings.
If you're new to flashing firmwares, check the great reference guide on where to find Odin and how to use it (this is the app you'll use to flash the above firmware).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
After flashing, try getting into recovery mode. If you can look for an error message under the standard menu. Can't get to d/l mode? You're probably in trouble. Get into recovery and see an error msg? Post the error here or google it for a solution. No error msg? You're probably ok - restart the phone.
Good luck.
Thanks guys.
I'm about to try it now, but before I start potentially breaking my phone even more, I was just thinking: Could I just send it back to Samsung? Would they fix it, or identify right away I have changed something and void my warranty.

If it's broke, you can't break it any more I've sent phones back in for support after flashing back stock firmware (flashing it after it "died").

Tried to install CWM from market as Galaxy Tab 10.1. The tab is bricked, if you choose to boot into recovery you will get sutck in an endless loop of reboots. With a little effort and connecting the tab to a PC you can get back to the choice menu and enter download mode.

This is the netload folder for the wi-fi version: http://netfolder.in/folder.php?folder_id=VgnYQ90 and the password: samsung-stuff.de
Samfirmware uses awful slow hosts lately.
Just got it today and I really got scared as the boot menu didn't show up anymore (the sammy logo did appear but it was followed by immediate shutdown) I was starting to think I got myself a hard brick
Got it from Amazon.fr, sorry I won't be able to share my firmware anymore...

Be careful. Sometimes it clears your SD card as well (depending on what exactly you're doing).
To be safe, make a backup of you SD card on your computer.
Only flashed the bootloader from that pack, seems to work!
... more or less. Trying to boot into recovery will restart the tabled, trying to do so from the CWM app will bring you back to the reboot loop...

A hard brick is when nothing shows up no matter what. Screen stays black no matter what you do, power button doesnt work, you cant get into any recovery or bootloader or anything..
I was a little iffy to install it...so glad I didn't. Had some issues with it on my GS2..pfft
i think i have bricked mine new P 7500
but there is nothing wrong i did with this device
tab is now in only conecting in APX
NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for Mobile devices
no sign of charging and no light on display
is there any way to recover it back??????????
this is semi or hard bricked?????
How? this thread is meant for the 8.9 tabs...
This topic should be a sticky!
Anyway too late for me, just trying to work out what brick I have. Basically I done the above too but I'm trying to work out what type of brick I've got. I cannot see a charge light when put on charge. I can get to an option for recovery or download but can't get to recovery. I just get a bootloop of powering on as far as the samsung logo before shutting down, or at least the screen going black. I've never connected to computer yet but I think I've found the files I need should it be a soft brick. Any help in getting me through this would be appreciated.

Trapped myself in this lobster pot too. Probably hold the record for purchase to soft brick in 10 hrs!
there is a link in second post from op which has the roms and the flashing software (Odin)eunfortunately they only had a 7310 rom when I looked. You need a 7300 rom for your phone to work. Please read as many forums as you can on this first. I ended up flashing an Asian image just to get back on my feet, then ended up flashing overcome and over clocking which works very well. Wish you luck!
same
same thing happened to me .I should of looked here before trying a backup. Used Odin to install this and its all good, and 3.2. megaupload.com/?d=0KYNVV4Z
FYI, I was stupid yesterday and allowed ROM manager to update my recovery partition (it told me there was an update available). Of course the update was for a Tab 10.1 and soft bricked my tab (it went into a boot loop). I recovered by going into download mode and using odin to flash only Tab 8.9 clockwork recovery image.
So, if anyone else bricks their tab by using an incompatible recovery, you should be able to recover back to where you were by just flashing a compatible recovery instead of using a full odin ROM.

[Q] Optimus black stuck on firmware update screen

The story so far...
Bought a new Optimus Black and gave it to my girlfriend for her birthday a couple of days ago. After playing with it for about an hour she put it down, I picked it up and decided to have a tinker. I installed Cyanogen mod 3.5.1 after rooting it with Gingerbreak. So far so good but I didn't really like the look of the ROM and the absence of a Market seemed like hassle so I used ClockworkMod to restore the backed up stock ROM.
It's still working fine but now I see there is an official update from inside the phone. I presume it's the upgrade to Android 2.3 so run it and reboot the phone. That's when it all goes wrong. I'm now stuck in the CWM recovery screen. I try all the options, following any online guides I can find that were supposed to have worked for people. I try restoring the backup, restoring cyanogen, clearing the cache, dalvik, everything but nothing happens and I keep booting back into the CWM recovery screen.
Next day I try the LGUnitedMobileDriver and the phone recovery option but despite trying several times I can get no further. A friend tried to use Odin to restore it but got no success. Finally, we tried restoring with a KDZ file with
KDZ_FW_UPD_EN, Windows Enabler and LG B2CTool and now the phone got stuck in yet another loop - a black screen with 'updating firmware'. The LEDs flash for a minute and it reboots and does the same again.
What's more, the phone will now no longer charge or turn on without being connected to the mains.
What are my options here?
Follow the tutorial given below.

have you tried the CS_EMERGENCY option in R&D TOOLS? Wait I'll find the link..

The CS_EMERGENCY is the only thing worked, he used a german V10A ROM. If you managed to unbrick it, you can flash it again with your desired KDZ, or use CS_EMERGENCY and flash directly your desired KDZ. TRIAL AND ERROR.
Emergency c-section... nope, I will try that now!
Said that it will get stuck at 4% but it is still flashing. Just wait for the phone to reboot by itself.
It just crashes with a fatal error as soon as it gets to the second tab (downloading) on both PCs I tried it on. I tried several KDZ files with the same result.
Does anyone know if it's possible to physically change the ROM on this phone and if it would be worth trying that before binning the thing?

Does it have warranty? Why not RMA it, I think it has a hardware problem now since you mentioned it doesn't charge anymore. Also, have you tried a different USB cable?
The warranty gets voided as soon as you root or mod a phone and it's probably as expensive to get it fixed outside of warranty as to buy a new one.

Most of the time they change the board right away if it can't boot (as many as I've read) board was changed and none just revived the OS. So they won't know you rooted it. Just specify that they should contact you first before making any changes.

[Q] Bricked L90

dear, sorry the English, but I need a help from you.
I made the installation of IMG extracted the KDZ and did flash the recovery, however, now my machine not the sign of life, the computer does not detect the device, the device does not turn on, not of any sign of life. already tried in various corners anything to help me have some solution. I did the procedure based on the stock rom flash D405 with img extracted files. After that the only active device the display if I put to load without the battery, which displays the battery with a question mark. The device does not enter download mode, does not go into recovery, does not display anything, as if completely dead. Does anyone have aware and know any solution to the problem? Note: I've tried the LG flahs tools, it does not detect the device.
You have probably the worst case of them all. I suggest you to take your phone to warranty and see if they can replace it (because there probably isn't any way to fix it). If your warranty is void, then, I'm afraid, you will have to get a new device. I have had this issue myself, and it was solved only by replacing whole internals of the phone. Good thing that I still had my warranty, so it didn't cost anything. Good luck.

Yes. I tried to flash a ROM (which requires an unlocked bootloader), but for some reason the bootloader wasn't actually unlocked, and flashing a ROM caused the device to be bricked. This is probably what you would call a hard-brick.
In my case, replacement took a little more than a week. But this could differ from country to country.

Exactly. Since the device cannot be turned on, I don't think they have any way of checking if it was rooted or tampered with in any way. So your best bet is to just play dumb and tell them your phone doesn't boot up. That helped me to get it fixed for free.

hard reset does not remove all traces of root. There is RCT checking. u can be sure that have no traces of root when RCT was reset. On kit kat we have chance to reset it without reflashing. But on 5.0 only reflash

Help, bricked my device trying to downgrade to KitKat from OF3

Hello,

I did the same thing before I learned it can't be done. I found a working original ATT image and used ODIN to flash it on. It boots up fine now, but I get an "unauthorized access" notification every 15 minutes now. Don't know how to fix that yet.
