Unfortunately, you can't use Kies if you running a custom ROM. Kies can't find your firmware and CSC version. The only way to go back to stock rom is flash a stock ROM via Odin3, mate.
You can get signed stock firmwares from sammobile.com/firmware

Hey guys,
Is there a way to download the official firmware update outside Kies but perform the upgrade from within it?
The problem is I have a crappy internet connection and everytime I try to upgrade via Kies, a little time after Kies starts to download the upgrade, the download stops and I get the "No response from server" error.
Maybe there's a way to change the timeout value, so Kies keeps trying instead of dropping the download?
Thanks.
Use odin like everyone else. Check on Dev thread, no use uses kies

Thanks ickyboo. Already downloading fw to flash through Odin.
Hello,
I flashed all different kinds of ROM on my SGS, but now I just want it stock again. How do I do this? If I connect to Kies and try to update the firmware is says something like "this version is not able to update" I don't know the exact words due to using a german phone.
How can I get my phone all stock again?

Chris
I foolishly bought a Galaxy S from ebay that had previously been unlocked from Orange.
The handset still had some range software installed.
I was given some possibly incorrect advise, due to not being able to update phone through Kids. I then downloaded firmware 2.3.2 from samware. I then downloaded Odin and followed the tutorial. I am now unable to even connect my phone to Kies and the phone feels sluggish and has crashed twice.
Can anyone help? Thanks
Right first of all can you connect the phone to the computer ?? example: USB mass storage ??
secondly do you have the 3 button combo ??? (recovery and download mode)
if yes to both, get yourself 2.2.1 firmware from samfirmware.com (something like I9000XWJS5 or JS8) they seem to be the latest releases.
follow the instructions found on the website to flash the firmware and then report back.

Thanks for you`re advice. Flashed firmware and phone seems to be ok, but i`m still unable to connect to Kies. Kies just says connecting but never connects.
Try this.
- Go to settings>wireless and network>usb settings. Put it on "ask on connection"
- Start Kies. Wait for it to load.
- now connect your phone to your pc. It asks what kind of connection on your phone. Choose Kies.
- hopefully now it loads in Kies
If this doesnt work try reinstalling Kies.

Sorted.
Thanks for the help.
Hi all,
I need help here. My phone (with stock Android 2.3.6) does not upgrade through OTA and therefore I only rely on Kies.
Kies says that there is a firmware upgrade available, but when I start the upgrade process, it stops (mostly between 13 to 15%... only once it went to 65%) and then it stops and says:
"Failed to run firmware upgrade, Unknown error occurred"
I upgraded the Kies to least version already. So please help
you must have a reliable internet connection to update through Kies. If Kies fail just download an ICS ROM and upgrade via PC Odin.
And most importantly read around the threads before doing anything, the search function is your friend, it helps to be informed before jumping into something you are not familiar with.
Thanks rcaballero,
As you rightly said I would not do anything without understanding it first. I am not familiar with pc odin yet and am afraid to use it at the moment.
My internet connection is fine. I have rather tried it on 2 different internet connections till now but still no luck :-(
By the way my Kies is showing that my firmware now is: PDA:LA1 / PHONE:LA4 / CSC:LA1 (PAK)
and new firmware available is: PDA:LPD / PHONE:LPT / CSC:LP7 (PAK)
If I go for download from sammobile, should I search for the same firmware or any newer ICS ROM will work?
you could look for the same or use any other if you cannot find it, I've tried flashing ICS ROMs for India, Poland and Philippines not much of a difference.
Just stick to what's best for you
Hi all.
shortly, my I9000 run into boot loop few days ago, today i managed to install new rom through my computer.
the problem is that i played too much with modems, radios and kernels so that the cellular signal ****ed up.
sometimes i have signals and sometimes i don't.
i downloaded ''Network signal info'' app, it shows me that he tries to get signal but without successes.
it tells me ''Can't read dbm value (modified firmware)''.
i tried to install CM over the currently version but it doesn't help.

So I got a Fail while trying to unbrick
The error on Odin is Can't open the serial(COM) port.
