I foolishly bought a Galaxy S from ebay that had previously been unlocked from Orange.
The handset still had some range software installed.
I was given some possibly incorrect advise, due to not being able to update phone through Kids. I then downloaded firmware 2.3.2 from samware. I then downloaded Odin and followed the tutorial. I am now unable to even connect my phone to Kies and the phone feels sluggish and has crashed twice.
Can anyone help? Thanks
Right first of all can you connect the phone to the computer ?? example: USB mass storage ??
secondly do you have the 3 button combo ??? (recovery and download mode)
if yes to both, get yourself 2.2.1 firmware from samfirmware.com (something like I9000XWJS5 or JS8) they seem to be the latest releases.
follow the instructions found on the website to flash the firmware and then report back.
Problems
Thanks for you`re advice. Flashed firmware and phone seems to be ok, but i`m still unable to connect to Kies. Kies just says connecting but never connects.
Try this.
- Go to settings>wireless and network>usb settings. Put it on "ask on connection"
- Start Kies. Wait for it to load.
- now connect your phone to your pc. It asks what kind of connection on your phone. Choose Kies.
- hopefully now it loads in Kies
If this doesnt work try reinstalling Kies.

Did you ever flash a rom based off another phone (I9000, Rogers)? There are some roms that will change your product id.

This solved my unregistered device problem.
It didn't fixed my borked IMEI but it did allow me to update via Kies again. Everything on my phone works, save for Market which always breaks on a stock AT&T rom within a day. Every other ROM it works on. After flashing a few I9000 ROMs and a couple Rogers, I had the issue.
Flashing back to stock didn't fix it. Methinks we need to get some ROM cookers to fix that one up...
Galaxy Note not recognized by Kies after OTA update
Dear Experts,
I had bought Galaxy Note recently in India GT-N7000, after turning on the device it found OTA and I updated the same now the Version is BB Version DDLA2 and Kernel Version DDLA5. But after this when I connect my phone back to my laptop it does not recognize and comes up with a message "Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC mode). Current Connection Mode not supported my Kies" Following where the troubleshooting I had already did. Only one this which I observe new is previously when I use to connect my phone my phone use to notify MTP Connection at the top of the screen but now it says USB Connected Select Files to/from your computer
1. Uninstalled and re installed Kies
2. Clear Phone Cache through Recovery Mode
3. Tried the "Troubleshoot Connection Problem" in Kies
Please help
Thanks in advance

Hoping a kind soul can help a total fool who should have left well alone!
I have a UK Samsung Galaxy S I9000 phone that was unlocked by the previous owner but still had all the "3" branding which I wanted to remove. I was already on ver 2.2 (updated via Kies) although I don't know the exact revision.
After lots of reading (obviously not enough) I followed a guide to reflash via Odin v1.7 to I9000XWJS3 using separate files for PIT (803), PDA, PHONE and CSC. The guide said to tick Re-partition on which might have been the cause of my problem.
Needless to say after the flash, I got the error message "Can't mount /dev/block/st110" and subsequent reboots just give me a black screen. I still had access to the download mode so I tried another posts solution to fix the black screen starting with a flash to I9000XXJPC with a 512 pit and re-partition again. This time the odin process started but no progress bar materialised. After a very long while I disconnected. Thankfully I can still enter the download mode but this time am hoping someone with more knowledge is willing to help me though the process of recovering my phone if its still possible.
Just looking for any stock UK firmware and then I will let Kies update from now on.
Many Thanks

You still can use xxjpc, with repartition ticked. Many a times, odin will fail for no reasons. Try again, but make sure you close Kies completely.

Thanks g00ndu. You gave me the courage to re-run xxjpc again by confirming I was on the right track and this time it worked. Small donation on its way for helping me recover my phone.
I have one further question though. Can someone confirm if the I9000XXJPC firmware is for the UK? I hope to only use Kies from now on but it now says "the version of the device cannot be updated". I am using the latest version 2.0.0.11014_49.
Thanks again
Edit - Kies lists the current firmware version as PDA:JPC / PHONE:JPC / CSC:JPC (KOR). Something tells me I have the wrong country firmware. If anyone can provide a link to the correct one and the Odin settings I should use it would be greatly appreciated.
Still trying to get a solution to this and have noticed that my product code in Kies registry entry is GT-I9000HKDKOR. I am wondering if this is because I used a wrong CSC file?
Any directions would be very welcome.
Thanks
Go to www.samfirmware.com and grab the Europe/UK firmware. Get a 2.2.1. one. All the CSC, Phone, Modem files should be in the package.
Thanks snapper.fishes. I am now downloading I9000XXJPU (512.Pit) - hopefully this one is correct as some of the downloads for 2.2.1 show (803.Pit). As there are no instructions with this I assume I don't click re-partition. Is this correct?
Thanks for the help
This is almost soul destroying....
I ran the update "I9000XXJPU (512.Pit)" as mentioned above and it flashed successfully. I am now on 2.2.1
Re-plugged in the usb cable and no windows popup to view the sd contents and nothing in "My Computer". Kies recognises something has been plugged in but remains on "connecting" - the phone itself shows the usb graphic and "connected".
I then went into Settings -> About Phone and there is no USB Settings option.
And just to rub it in I typed in *2767*4387264636# as per the wiki guide on here to view the Product code and it's still on Korea GT-I9000HKDKOR.
Edit - Have now tried *#1234# and the phone says:
PDA: I9000XXJPU
PHONE: I9000XXJPU
CSC: I9000OXAJPU
Not even sure if this bit helps
In case this is a help to other novices like me with the wrong product code. I found the following info and you don't need to be rooted to run it:
E.g. Changing CSC to XEU: Note - this will only work if the multiCSC was used when firmware was flashed
Type *#272*IMEI# and select XEU to install. (to check IMEI: *#06#)
Phone will reset to the default setting (perform a backup beforehand if req)
XEU = UK's product code
As for the USB issue (no USB Settings menu option in About Phone), is this just a change in the 2.2.1 menus? I noticed a USB Settings menu in "Wireless and network" and they have changed how this works. Kies still refuses to connect to the phone, but maybe this is just Kies.
Thanks

Me Too!!
I'm getting the same error the op did.
What happened? I flashed CM7 and it worked fine. I then decided to do a restore with the backup I had made earlier with CWM, this is when **** went wrong. Couldn't boot up after this or get to recovery. Went into download mode and tried to reflash factory firmware. JL2 Andriod 2.2 for Bell Canada I9000. Says successful but just boots to 3e recovery with " /dev/block/st110, (Invalid argument), E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA: "
Below that it says: " your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions. copy default media content failed.
My biggest fear is the dreaded Int.SD card failure, the op gave me hope but same thing after every reflash.
Any suggestion?
I also have a Bell I9000M that did that. After attempting several combinations what ended up working for me was flashing JPU with 512.pit and repartition enabled, modem, PDA and CSC all selected in odin 1.3. That got me a working device. Then flashed JH2 to get recovery 2e back. Then flashed to the ROM I was originally on (Darky's 9.3). After that I flashed a CWM zip for the JL2 modem to get data back.

Also very important, for JH2 I did PDA only. No pit, no repartition.

Thanks icejagans. Its a relief to know that this is just an incompatibiliy between kies and the JPU firmware. Do you know if there has been an official 2.2.1 firmware available via Kies for UK unbranded I9000s?
Edit - icejagans you're a star, the JPY update fixed the USB oddity I was having and even Kies now connects OK. I will mark this thread as solved.

Hello,
I upgraded my att captivate to Froyo when the official release was issued through kies. My friend was having problems getting the drivers to load on his PC so I told him to bring his phone over and I would use my PC to upgrade him to froyo through kies. Well we just plugged in his phone and kies is saying that it is an unrecongized device. So I plugged my phone in and it is saying that for my phone now. I don't understand it worked a last month when I upgraded to froyo. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for you help.
Jason
did you change anything on your phone? Rom, kernel, modem, root?
Also I had that problem with full verdion of kies so I tried kies mini and for some odd reason it worked.
One last thing... Make sure you select kies update on your phone after plugging the usb

Hi all,
When I first got my note the other week, I was able to connect via Kies to upgrade my firmware. Afterwards, Kies listed all of my info under "Firmware Information". But now there's a problem because this no longer works. Instead of listing my info, I get the message "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies".
The only difference I can think of is that I now have an AT&T SIM card in my phone. (There was no SIM card in my phone when Kies was working fine) I'm using my Note as a GoPhone, so do you think this is the reason why Kies is giving me this annoying message?
Thanks in advance, everyone, and have a Happy New Year!
Hi
I have same problem and i dont know if i can help. But what i did was i unrooted and restore factory my GN and after that the kies started to recognize my note. then i did un update.
Hope it helps.
Yeah, this is such an annoying problem. Everything was running smoothly until now. I've read that disabling USB debugging would solve the problem, but I tried that. It didn't help. Then I read that the phone has to have the right CSC using *#272*IMEI#, but that didn't work either. My phone is already set to 'DBT' (Germany).
Anyone know how to help us out here? It would suck if we had to do a factory reset every time there's an update.
I don't think this is a permanent issue. I upgraded my completely OEM phone last week, this week I've plugged it in multiple times, and it worked and recognized it. Yesterday I plugged it in and it didn't, it gave me the same error. I think it may be an error on Samsung's end. Maybe?

You are as i would guess with a german note and have updated to kl7 or kl8 both are not suported from samsung they called the firmware upgrade back, to many minor/major bugs on them so they forced to close the update so now kies if you have kl7 or kl8 it says your device is not suported.
Hope it helped wait few days they will give a new update for it and it will recognise it again.

Yes, you are absolutely correct! I tried it the other day, and Kies did in fact recognize my Note this time. Thanks, man.
Hello guys have a question for you.
I installed Kies on my PC a few days ago. I connect my Note and everything seems fine, I can browse the device, see my memory usage, see the firmware version that is installed, etc, but every time I click on the firmware upgrade and initialization option I get a message box saying: "GT-N7000" does not support initialization.
what does that mean? That I can't use kies to update my device?
I know my device is rooted but I guess I still should be able to use kies to update my device, right? am I mistaken?
I have the same problem.
I also see the same message when I hook my one up

im on the stock unrooted german ICS, when i connect to Kies it says that "your device does not support software upgrading via kies!!!" anyone know whats up with that!?
Erase Kies that you have right now, go to Samsung.de (german site of Samsung) and install their latest version of Kies. Open Kies, run device updates in Kies and reboot your phone and THEN connect phone to the computer via USB cable. I had the same message and this solved my issues.

also i am a noob so cant garantee that this is safe, this worked for me now when i connect to kies i get the this is the current firmware message, however i dont know if its safe, my phone has never been rooted also.
just need to fix the charging paused voltage to high message without having to connect a usb stick conector and removing it now.
