Have you checked the Verizon HTC One forum, they would know more than us in this forum. The Verizon phone has different radio and partitions than the GSM phones here. In addition, Verizon put a stop on allowing HTCDev for unlocking the device. Firewater S-OFF is one of the schemes that can work with your phone.

If your fully updated to 4.4.2/Sense 6, sunshine MAY be your only option, n it works quite well. And as far as the price u refuse to pay, its really quite low if you look into how many man-hours and bricked devices went into making Rooting and S-offing our phones POSSIBLE. Honestly its just about the only way now on a Verizon One and its quite efficient, and if it weren't for Jcase and Beaups, all of us who didn't S-off before the Sense 6 OTA Would still be in the dark. Not trying to be rude, but having a Verizon HTC One myself that I didn't root unti after the sense 6 OTA, chances are, if you're THAT Determined to root it, you're gonna end up goin with Sunshine. Also consider that $25 helps them with future research and development on this phone, and if you look back in the threads, majority of the exploits for this phone were brought to us by them…

Thanks I finally have in and bought it worked fine

Buying a Verizon HTC One overseas...

Hi,
I recently purchased a HTC One over here in the UK and a few weeks later, the phone got blacklisted. As I was massively out of cash I tried to eBay it and listed it with a bad IMEI/ESN. Somebody in the States got back to me and offered a swap with a Verizon HTC One. I'm not too experienced with the phone but I seem to remember hearing that a Verizon HTC One sometimes requires different methods for rooting or installing ROMs to the international versions. Can anybody guide me here whether or not I should be able to use the phone and root it/flash ROMs as I would with my original?
Thanks.

Installing ROMs are identical to the International One. Now, the bootloader unlock for the Verizon One doesn't happen through HTCdev. Rumrunner is required for unlocking the bootloader and S-OFF. Once the bootloader is unlocked, the custom recovery is flashed the same way as the International variant. Rooting is also the same.
However, there are certain issues with bootloader unlocking the Verizon One on Kitkat 4.4.2. Im not too sure about that, the Verizon forum for the One should guide you more in that area.
And, the ROMs for the Verizon will be listed on the Verizon One Android Development, not on the International One forum. There aren't as many ROMs for the Verizon as compared to International unlocked

If you're not on Verizon in the States, do NOT buy it. Pretty sure it won't work outside the US

Should I get a One M7 - I travel overseas sometimes

I'm a bit confused after reading.
I have an account with Ting using an old iPhone 4 (3g). The iPhone was free so I figured I'd give it a shot. I do not like it.
I'd like to get a decent Android phone - I had a Thunderbolt, and through work I have a One X, so I have already invested in my favorite apps. But work phone is not for personal use so I need my own phone too. I like Titanium Backup so root would of course be needed.
I was thinking of the One M7 but - here is the actual question - I sometimes travel overseas, and would like to be able to pop in a SIM card and have hassle-free personal communications when in Europe or India, I'm not sure if this is possible with the One M7.
Or should I just buy a Nexus 5 and be done with it?
Your advice is greatly appreciated.
OK, with some more Google-fu I have answered my question (it could work).
Now I have to figure out if Sprint will SIM-unlock a used phone for me if I'm on Ting.

Bounty for non HTCdev bootloader unlock + root.

Willing to get things rolling with $20 for someone who can get root without using the HTCDev root for the Sprint variant.
If it's possible to retain HTC Warranty, I think it'd be worth looking into.
Anyone else agree?
Greetings,
There is already a Bounty thread for the M8 (it does say for all GSM variants) but there is mention of Sprint devices in said thread.
If I remember correctly @beaups said he will not be working on an HTC-Dev workaround (meaning any device that is unlockable through HTC-Dev) maybe he'll pop in and clarify.
I'll leave the thread open for now, there may be other devs working on an exploit.
Thanks BD619
I don't understand. Looking for working temproot to run permanent soff solution sans Htcdev or looking for some permaroot with locked/s-on

He wants to bypass HTC Dev would be my guess
Never heard of warranty issues in USA. Is that happening now

Occasionally HTC will refuse/charge for service if a device has been unlocked prior.

Exactly.
HTC refused to send me a replacement M7 for the purple camera haze because I had an unlocked bootloader.
Blamed the purple haze on overheating due to using non HTC software. complete BS.
Yes, bypassing HTCdev is the goal.

Specifically, root without HTC Dev (which is currently the only way to achieve root on any non-Verizon variants).
Personally I've never had any issues with warranty concerns and I've used HTC Dev on every device I've had since the OG EVO. It's relatively easy to restore the device to a completely unrooted/stock state once you've gotten S-OFF, so I've never seen a need to find an alternative method to root.

But they have record of your IMEI / ESN having used HTC Dev in the past, even when you go back to stock before sending in, correct?

They have a record of your having requested an unlock code, sure. But that doesn't mean you ever used it to unlock the device.
Unless they have some reason to suspect that you've harmed your device by unlocking it, I doubt HTC would bother checking. And Sprint definitely wouldn't bother checking with HTC to see if that's the case if the device appears to be in stock condition.
I've returned many devices to Sprint for warranty replacements and one device to HTC directly and have NEVER had an issue.

That's a good point, I have returned devices to Sprint when I was on Sprint and they didn't ask me anything or even check the bootloader, they just replaced it.
I am not sure how much interested for developers this particular request will generate, but we'll see...
Thanks for the clarification Captain..
I was confused because I didn't think it was possible to get perm root on an HTC device without unlocking the bootloader..
Why not take the device back to the carrier instead of shipping back to HTC?
I do not believe there to be a permroot available without having first unlocked the bootloader or at least, I haven't seen it done.
I don't know much about the m8 as I'm on the t6 but both t6 and m7 didn't need to use htc-dev.
Either Rumrunner, or weaksauce coupled with rumrunner.
Beaups would be most able to answer this question for you.

These stories of people walking into a Sprint store with a broken phone and walking out with a new one are nothing more than mythology, to me.

Precisely.
I guess the stores in areas outside of mine would rather just replace the device and not ask questions than try to shift the blame to the customer or to HTC.
Standard response from techs here is,"Call Assurion."

There isn't and that's what I'm requesting.
Root, which also requires an unlocked bootloader... that I would like to not have unlocked by htcdev.
If there isn't much interest in it, no biggie. I'll just htcdev unlock if nothing comes of this over the next couple weeks.
:good:

If your phone is damaged then you have to deal with Assurion.... If it's software or device malfunction then the store will replace it no question... Most you would need to do is put stock recovery back and relock device...

the complete guide andother things showed that they worked but when I put in an ATT sim card or Tmobile i get no bars whatsoever it doesnt even let me access it to choose it as my network. But it also doesnt show
sim locked. I am in New York
Please at this point I am almost in tears as i havent spoken to my mum for a couple days who is a couple thousand miles away and has stage 2 cancer. i dont know what to do, i recently lost my other HTC one which was unlocked and I currently cant afford to buy another unlocked one because I dont have the money so i opted for this which was cheaper and figured i will unlock it.
Thank you very much.

Will we ever have root or custom ROMs

I was just curious about the current state in android development the LGG4 was for Sprint.
Thanks!

they already have root. they just haven't released it because they say "it's not safe". I don't get what that has to do with anything. Everybody installs custom roms and twrp and roots their device and does all kinds of modifications already knowing that there's a chance that they can completely brick their device. I don't get why they don't release the beta of the root and whoever bricks their device is liable to their own mistakes.
Maybe by not safe, they mean that it's somehow unpredictable or something, where even if you follow the guide perfectly, there is a chance you get bricked if the planets aren't aligned or something...
They are just tired of getting blamed for people being stupid. No matter how many disclaimers they put out, some people are just jacka$$e$ and will still flame and blame.
The phone has been out for a month, calm down.
Patience if it involves a tedious process then it's better to wait, trust me it would be brick city all over the place. The best thing to do is wait because asking when stuff is not ready piss alot of people off that's trying to get it working for everyone.
So it's been almost 6 months. Is this something we can expect eventually? If not I'm considering selling my device and getting something that has roms available.

good luck with that on sprint.
The only unlocked boot loader phone on sprint is the HTC M9. Which is much less of a phone than this one.
Marshmallow is making it even more difficult even with unlocked bootloader.
Your best chance is T-mobile. V10 is nice.
I have M9 and G4. Tried t-mobile with v10 and it didn't have coverage I needed. But if they do for you, it's your best option.

I agree T-Mobile has no coverage for menas well that's why I came to sprint..an the v10 is nice I messed around with it at tmo but sprint doesn't have it..even tho sprint doesn't have bootloader unlocked there r 2 roks that r nice
My work phone is Tmobile so I know i have coverage. But I need to stay with sprint for the unlimited data for my personal phone. I'll look in to the M9 altho i had the old m7 and it was underwhelming.

I thought the M7 was a great phone for it's time. M8 was an ok upgrade. M9 was basically an M8.
It's a solid phone, my wife has it. But screen is too small and camera is really lacking compared to G4.
At this point I'd just wait and see what HTC releases for an M9 replacement. I really hope to be wowed.
I really like wireless charging and SD card. I don't care about removable batteries.
Hopefully soon the phones will be more universal like Nexus and iPhone.
I'd consider a Nexus 6P but no SD Card and no wireless charging. Kind of too big too.
