Hi!
I'm thinking about buying a Diamond, but I've got some wuestions about it.
1.) Is it possible to change the default TF3d to something more iPhone-like? Maybe with some SPB application?
(I like iPhone's simplicity, that control with short, little finger-moves, but at general iPhone is too dumb for me.)
2.) Is it possible to turn off threaded SMS-viewing?
Thanks for the replies.
1. yes, seen it on Youtube somewhere...if you search the forum you might find the link ~
2. yes possible and extremely easy -> via advanced config. tool
...now, head out and buy your Diamond jewel
TF3D is just another shell like any SPB-application or other cab.
After all, the Diamond is nothing more then a Windows Mobile fone...

I like that, better than iPhone. I have a HTC P3300, and wan tto upgrade to DImaond. My collegue got az iPhone, it's nice, it's comfortable, it has awesome browser, but it has strict rules, and a little dumb for me. I love when i can change almost everything, when something is real configurable.
Well, as for the browser, there's nothing better than Opera in the mobile world right now.
I'm gonna get flamed for this but you should SERIOUSLY consider your purchase mate. There are many hang-ups, battery life and screen issues being huge ones. I love my Diamond, but perhaps that's because it's just an interim phone until the Sony Xperia 1 comes out some time this month. The Omnia is a worthy alernative if you want to buy a phone now however as it's more of an all-rounder.
However, if battery life and the need to tweak lots doesn't bother you, you couldn't ask for a better phone right now.

consider yourself flamed by a very satisfied diamond user.
hang-ups? BS!! never experienced one, not even when i had the original ROM.
screen issues? BS!!!! (best VGA screen).
battery life? BS!! my battery last 24 hours....more than i need. i do charge my diamond during the night...
tweaks a lot? BS!! used once Shaps Advanced Configuration, export the settings and that's all the tweaks i need. always using the same file.
i played with Omnia today. first i look around to be sure nobody sees me (from the distance looks sooooo much like an iPhone!) then i had to get used to the pixels on the screen (lots of them) and then i tried to put it in shirt pocket...and that was all i need...
I meant hang-ups as in disadvantages. The screen is great, but the build quality seems to be inconsistent. 24hrs battery may not be enough for some.
Just trying to give this guy all the info he needs.

i really want to understand. i am not joking, i am not trying to be sarcastic or a smart ass.
who needs more than 24 hours of battery??
who is far from an electrical socket or his car more than 24 hours??
Look at this

Some want the iphon look's like a Diamond
As your questions have been answered already i won't answer them but i would suggest looking at the Sony Xperia (however it's spelt) depending on your preference but if you really want a Diamond then definately get one
True, 24hrs is sufficient.
But for some, they need/want more battery power to browse internet, watch films/listen to music and use gps. I don't think the Diamond would let you do all that in one day. I'd say it would give you 24hrs if you browsed on the internet moderately and used gps sparingly. Films and music really exhaust battery life...
Don't get me wrong, I love my Diamond. But it's not a multimedia/internet powerhouse in terms of battery. I think people will be dissappointed if they think it is, that's all.

Can you name any handheld device, let alone a mobile phone that will give you over 24 hours of use after watching movies, playing music/games or using gps,I cant think of one.
I usually get around 2-3 days out of my diamond, thats with some web browsing, youtube, calls and texts and maybe a short journey using gps.All i have done is updated to duttys 1.8 rom with the new radio and it made a world of difference.

you forgot boiling eggs and making coffee....
ppl, this is a phone with some extras!. this is not a digital camera, not a personal PC, not an MP3 and movies player, not a GPS dedicated device. it does a little of everything, and it does it well enough.
Ok you know what, read-read my posts - i'm not saying the Diamond is a bad phone. The omnia etc does what the diamond does but has more battery life. So all i'm saying is, if you intend to use the above named features a lot, the Diamond may not be for you. Of course, no phone will last you a long time when using such features.
Jeez, what is it with some of you people?

And reading around some forums, some peoples omnia's have a fast battery drainige issue.
I was actually considering an omnia, great specs, but after having a look at my mates,I think i made the right choice in the diamond. The omnia's screen is to pixelated for me after using the gorgeous vga screen on the diamond.
Most games can be played on it, but you can use the resize app, which comes with Panosha's Rom, but I havent used it really.
Go for the Diamond - 480 x 640 VGA - thats INSANE.
The pic quality is awesome.
Movie play back is great.
Only limitation is the unswappanle 4Gig internal drive.
But for some of us thats enough.
The iphone is just a ipod with phone function as a gimmic, like when phones came out with built in cams.
Whats the use of bluetooth if you cant transfer files over it??????
And for those are going to say how good the ipod sounds and blah blah blah - you shoud try the Cowon music players and others.
The Diamond is a pocket PC ! Enough said
Its a very impressive device , which is packed full of featues.
But be carfull when you buy , some unfortunate people have got a few bad eggs, where the screens have a yellow tint and the back heats up.
Mine however, knock on wood - is working perfectly.
Bought in Sinagapore.
Its such a sic little device.
I thought the back heating up was not a problem?
Some people report excessive heating. Though I think majority of them just overstates! (clearly)
Also I can't confirm whether the "minority" really suffers from that problem.

Quit masturbating yourself. It might help you.
Although maybe it shouldn't be used more than a couple of times a week at most, 5 hour energy seems to work really well for me.
But be careful, contrary to the commercials, it can make you quite jittery. Once, I took an entire bottle (only 2 fluid ounces, which actually contains over 8000% of your daily B vitamin requirements) before a major exam, and was shaking the entire time.
My teacher thought I was having a nervous breakdown or problems with stress, and now seems to think I should get a stress buster and maybe a therapist too... but other than that it works great.
But like I said, be careful with it, I actually have a really stupid friend who had a heart attack from drinking too many energy drinks at the same time. So USE IT RESPONSIBLY!
Dave
Go and by yourself some Cranberry Juice.
That stuff makes you sleep... like KRZY!
If you take the caffine road, be careful of an overdose, my sister took some caffine pills that you can buy ower the counter here in sweden.
Had to pump her stomach
Making sport helps a lot. Don't know if you make some, if not just pick one up, that's healthy .
I noticed that when I don't make sport for some reasons, I'm getting less active and more quickly tired hehe.
1) Make sure there is nothing wrong with you - get your bloodwork checked out.
2) Make sure you sleep enough and regularly. Try going to bed and getting up at exactly the same time each day for a month, and make sure there are about 8 hours between those events (for some people the sweet spot is 7, for others 9). Do not deviate from these times. For some people this is completely unnecessary, others really need to do this. Especially if you have been sleeping irregularly for some time.
3) Make sure you eat right, i.e. getting the right vitamins you need. Having too little of some vitamins makes you tired. Having too much of other vitamins may kill you though Again, get yourself checked out - it is fairly common that your body may not 'handle' certain vitamins right, which again can make you dead tired. There are various ways to handle that, your doctor will know the best way for you if that is your problem. BUT, do NOT take general vitamin supplements. Most of the time taking those leads to having too many vitamins, which is just as bad as too little. You will get enough of most vitamins from whatever you eat, even if you don't eat healthy.
4) Stop drinking anything containing caffeine - period. Not drinking caffeine at all for weeks straight has pretty much the same effect as drinking caffeine daily The more caffeine you drink, the longer it takes for this to go normal again. Energy drinks, coffee, etc are all bad ideas if you want to be awake. Quit them altogether. (Remember caffeine is a drug!)
5) Stop drinking milk and similar dairy products. Milk is the primary dairy product that can cause what I'm about to explain, but it depends on yourself. Most people for example don't have this issue with yoghurt or cheese. About 1 in 10 people does not burn dairy products correctly - but a much smaller number actually knows this. The result is almost always getting tired. I personally know several people who suffer from this and not drinking milk, eating yoghurt etc solved most of their tiredness issues.
6) Don't drink any alcohol for a few weeks. Makes you tired if you drink more than your body can properly take care of (which isn't all that much).
7) Stop smoking. Also makes you tired.
8) Exercise! Helps a lot. And not just your body - do not forget your brain. Keep your mind occupied - throw away the TV (there's nothing worth watching on it anyway!)
9) Destress yourself. If you are having stress, do what it takes to get rid of it. Stress is a killer and wears you out if you have it for long periods of time.
Try doing all of the above for a month... I guarantee you will feel better. Once everything is settled again your body should be able to take some 'slacking' again for a while
Get a life, which obviously none of us have
thanks for those who gave the constructive advise
i guess its the lack of sports and sleep... i manage around 6-7 hours.. i think i am a 9hours person... work work.. with the great crisis now... WORK IS MORE IMPT sigh

I forgot to bring eye problems up. Do you wear contact lenses or did you notice that your view was somehow getting worse?
Both cases are pretty harsh for your brain, cause contact lenses are known to be tougher to wear than standard glasses (yes, that's also a question of habits and so on ), and if you have view problems (even small), then you brain tries hard to adapt but can't succeed it.
All of this make tired as hell, own experience speaking .

I was at work one day and my boss said I looked exhausted. I told him I wasn't sleeping that well. He suggested I spend less time around the computer at work then he unplugged my monitor. I then decided to take his advice within a week of using the computer 2-3hrs less a day, I was sleeping better and when I did not get the best sleep I had more energy.
So if time does not allow you to exercise, try stepping away from the computer when you are at home for a few hours less a day or even a week. See if that helps.
Yeah the problem nowaday for lots of people is that people use computer at work AND at home. That represents a large (huge) amount of the day (let's say one use the computer 6/8 hours at work + 3/5 hours at home, if not way more).
That way, yes, you get tired (why, I don't know, I'm no doc , but it certainly has to do with the light from the display, concentration and so on). At the same, you destroy your eyes, very modern sadely.
One thing I have heard and learned to do: never go to bed directly after switching off the tv or the cmputer, your head is then still too much working on what you saw or did before you get yourself in bed. Reading is friendlier.
I'm a recent emigre from the land of iphone and i'm loving all my newfound freedom. After surfing around the market, I have a couple quick questions I thought the xda crowd might have good answers to.
1.I saw an antivirus app. Is this just developer fear-mongering marketing or are there any android viruses floating around out there?
2.Along the same lines, I saw an application that would give a notification when the phone was fully charged to prevent overcharging. Is this an issue with Nexus One phones? I usually charge my phone overnight. Is that a bad idea?

+1 i never got a virus -_- nor did my phone overcharge
Ya...it kinda seemed like it.
I know how I can make some money... I'll invent an imaginary problem and create a fix for it... Step 3: Profit!
I have 'lookout' on my phone, the antivirus. I have no idea how effective it would be in the event of a real virus. But it is free, and doesn't put up ads. So i may as well use it. it has some other features.
My N1 was always on the charger whenever I got home. Haven't had a problem.
As for the anti-virus thing, I can see how it may become a problem on Android eventually, but I think the best prevention is to download/install reputable apps from the market.
I just upgraded to the droid 4 a couple of days ago. I am not new to rooting by any means, so ive been considering rooting this beast. My concern is not having a safe point to restore to. Is it worth it at this point to take the minimal risk? Has anyones use of the droid 4 become drastically improved after rooting? I appreciate any advice anyone has. Thank you

Go for it!
I have notice no performance increase or decrease. My phone behaves they same before and after I rooted. The rooting method is super easy also. I was impressed. If you follow directions exactly then the risk of bricking is VERY minimal. If your like me and you like having full control over your phone, then I would definitely root. The risk of screwing up your phone is greater after you root your device because then you start installing apps using super user permissions. As long as you stick with well know root apps like Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, Wireless Tether (the google project one), Nebtop, etc, you will be OK. Avoid apps with a very low amount of user reviews on the Play Store. If you do this then you will be fine.
My opinion it is definitely worth it as I've always been rooted and had a hard time even trying to make it through one day on stock lol. If you are familiar with rooting on Moto devices and familiar with Safestrap, you shouldn't worry too much.. But that being said, I there are still no fastboot files and there will still always be some risk.
I'm currently set up stock on my non-safe system(leaving it as is if I need to go back or for an ota) with gummy on my safe side. I've had good luck with data so far on gummy and with aokp and it's hard to go back once you've run ics long enough lol.
Just my opinion. If you haven't used Safestrap before just make sure to read up first to eliminate chance of bringing.
Good luck and have Fun!
Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-4
Keep in mind, you don't have to install a new ROM or safestrap if you just want to root. The risk to rooting is pretty minimal, and it allows you a lot more control over the phone.
The reason I rooted was because:
1) Titanium Backup requires root
2) Widgetlocker works better with root (disable ugly stock lockscreen)
3) SetCPU requires root to work
I have SetCPU setup not to overclock, but to underclock when screen is off/charging. Worth it for root for me. Plus, I wanted to root now, just in case an OTA comes down that makes it difficult to root later on (like the OG Droid).
You all sound pretty convincing. Podspi, or anyone for that matter, how much longer does your battery last while underclocking it just when charging and the screens off? I think i will be rooting this phone in a matter of hours

Probably depends on your use... It's hard to say, since I rooted it and underclocked it about an hour after I got it, but Battery Monitor Widget claims I could get 2 days out of idle (screen off).
SetCPU has a profile mode that lets you set the speed under a bunch of different conditions. I limit mine to 600mhz when less than 50% battery is remaining, for example. So far, with 4G on, I haven't even come close to running out in a day. So I'm pretty happy with the results, though I am not a heavy user.
Use the Droid 4 Utility, it makes rooting more or less foolproof. It is just a batch file, if you are interested in exactly what it is doing.
I just rooted my phone. That was incredibly simple, and I can do it to the other 4 droid 4s in my family in a matter of minutes. Which wireless tether app is the Google Project one? I've used barnacle in the past and one other I no longer see available on the market. Also anyone have a lockscreen that can pause and skip music? One of the simplest things I miss
For the purposes of SetCPU, at what temperatures should I be concerned about the battery and CPU? I read somewhere these batterys can take up to 158 degrees before any difference, but I set it at 140 degrees. What is safe for the phone?
I have gotten my phone very hot to the touch over 4G on a skype Video call so I imagine it could go further without problems.
The tether would be this one, http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...ail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta11.apk&can=2&q=
The built in tethering app flaked out on me the other day, but this one seems to work perfectly, maybe a little better than the stock one.
Just installed it. Thank you everyone

Droid 4 util is amazing. I'm a PC tech, and real familiar with windows and such, but not great with hardware, and my only previous android device was a god awful archos tablet.
D4U unlocked my phone in pretty much a single click, and bam, free tether, etc.
Not many so far, though I am sure people who have had the device longer can point out some more/
Most of these are more "WTF what were they thinking", except for the car charger which is very, very annoying:
1. USB cable goes in upside down
2. Either this device is very nit-picky or very power hungry: my USB car charger, which has no problem charging any device that I have thrown at it (probably have charged 10+ different phones models plus 3+ different android tablet models), does not charge the N7.
3. Stock android is disappointing compared to CM10 on my Kindle Fire (even though CM10 is in alpha/beta)
4. Chrome browser sucks without the thumb menu of the previous stock browser
I believe that the charger is not powerful enough. Take the galaxy s2 charger for example. It's rated at 5v 0.7amps. The nexus charger is 5v 2amps. I think that will be the issue.

Are you serious? One of the points of getting a Nexus device is that you can UNLOCK it and play.... which includes adding CM10 or anything else you can figure out how to load onto it.
In some forums, you have people begging for plain ASOP... funny to see someone complaining the other way...

See, for me in Pittsburgh PA, there are things i'll say I'll get "this is awesome" or "i love this". Like when I said "off of" together I get "love this." I could even off or of and i just get a v.
It could be me and my inflections. For the most part it does a wonderful job, but there are words or phrases that I use and it does something out of this world.

Oh I totally get it! It's the classic "some people just want to watch the world burn", only it's "some people just want to use THEIR device as THEY want." Which is one of the reasons I moved from iOS to Android.

It works great for me. In fact I'm replying using it right now. I believe that trick is to speak very slowly, almost like a robot. I do not dictate to it the same way I would speak to a person. Try to speak into it the same way google maps gps navigation speaks to you.
I only had to make 1 correction in this reply.

That's some great advice. I will go much slower from now on. I've just noticed I could say "that" and get "bat" or something, it just gave me a word that sounded similar to what I wanted. I'll give your advice a try though.

I think (and I could be wrong with this) that with Jelly Bean it tries to understand your voice so it knows what you are saying to it better. So the first few times you go through with saying some words it wont understand what you were trying to say.
I remember when I was talking into my phone I must of said "Toronto Blue Jays" for a good 2 minutes straight because it was giving me weird results for it. So I think once it recognizes your voice and how you say some words it will give you better results.

I know I say there for a good 3-4 minutes just saying "that" *delete* "that" *delete* until I just gave up and typed it.

1. Sure.
2. I am having the same problem as well. It wont charge unless i plug it into the wall. (but battery life is ****ing awesome though)
3. Really? maybe my view of a good OS is different from yours. CM 10 is great and fast but not stable. Stock has been solid like a rock for me.
4. If you are talking about flashing roms, you can just go flash the stock browser lol. Also chrome does stuff that the stock browser doesnt do. (tabs sharing is ****ing awesome)
The only problem I have had is the gps sometime continuously searches and drains the battery. I usually just restart the tablet and that fixes it. It's only happened twice so far.
When this happened, this is when the cable I was using didn't charge. Other than that every cable I've used has charged it.

The only problem I have is that my power button doesn't have much resistance and feels weak, but I think it is supposed to be that way.
I miss a notification light. How much more would that have cost?
1) lack of notification LED.
2) location of power button - to close to volume rocker, should be on top right rather than on side.
3) no screen rotation in stock launcher.
Otherwise, I just f... love it
