IDEA for a Battery saving mode UI - Moto X Q&A

Hi,
I have read that Active Display on Moto X is Battery friendly Because it powers up only specific pixels.
So, I got an IDEA that why can't someone design a UI to use as battery saving mode. which only uses specific pixels, turns off all smart-phone features, sensors and changes it to a black and white mobile with only dialer, call logo, sms app.
If anyone likes my Idea, Please keep let me know.
Thank you

This feature exists already in the Galaxy S5. It's called Ultra Power Save mode.

[Q] Quite a few issues (memo, profiles, screen) (Beginner)

Hello Everyone!
I am new to Android, my Galaxy Note is my first Android phone. So maybe my questions will seem stupid :
- Is there a way to quickly change between Silence/vibrate/ringtones ? Like a widget ? It is easy to switch between vibrate to ringtones, but I have to go to settings when I have to get the vibration off.
- Is there a way to be reminded of memos or tasks, like an alarm, but with memos ? An app for that maybe ?
- My screen has sometimes problems with black pixels on dark photos or youtube videos. There are huge packs of black pixel, not showing great hardware problem ? I hope not...
Thank you!

If you slide down the drop down menu you can turn on sounds or no sounds. You can also get widgets on the market that can enable or disable vibrations I believe as well.
Gtasks is an app I use to sync google tasks, there are options to put reminders (alarms). I don't believe memos in theory need reminders or alarms. I believe that to be a task if it's time constricted.
You could upload a picture here, and we can see if we can replicate the issue. I don't have my note yet, it's on its way. But I'm sure someone else wouldn't mind taking a look at it.
Cheers

If it is "sometimes" then usually it is not a dead pixel because they are "everytime"... It could be just contrast issues on the picture.

[SOLVED] Xperia T - screen dimming

Hi, I love my Xperia T but there is one thing that bothers me. I noticed that every xperia T has that automatic screen dimming when viewing darker media on your screen. For example, when i turn on facebook app, before the actual app opens there is dark grey screen. During that sequence screen gets darker, and when white facebook page pops up you can actually see screen adjusting its brightness to higher "normal" level. That really bothers me especially when gaming. On dark sequences screen gets really dark, and than it takes second or two to adjust normal brightness when brighter sequences appear. You can actually see brightness going down when darker images are displayed, and then back up again when brighter images appear.
So I'm not talking about dimming when overheating or flickering (that second is fixed by jellybean update as I noticed), or etc. And before you ask me I if turned on autobrightness in display settings, it has nothing to do with that.
My question is, is there a way to turn this off because it is really annoying?

Can you read my last sentence before question, please? It has apsolutely nothing to do with that. "Adopt to light conditions" means adopt to light conditions in your sourrounding, not in your screen light conditions.

All i thought it differs to auto brightness thats why i ask it sir. Sorry for the question then
You dont have to apologise. So, the problem is that when you watch darker images, or videos, or just any darker screen on your display, contrast and brightness goes down. And when you switch to brighter screen you can actually see, with your naked eye, brightnes going up. I see that Sony intentionally put that feature, but it is very, very stupid one. There is no point in making dark images even darker with even less contrast. I assume they wanted to achieve better black levels that way, or I don't know, but it is very stupid way of doing black levels more black. And, of course, there is no setting in settings menu tu turn this nonsense off, nice one Sony!

This similar annoying ass feature is there in my Spectre laptop. This was supposed to be a battery saving feature and I haven't yet found a way to turn it off. Maybe it's also a way to get higher black levels.
This is the Bravia Engine. Just unselect Settings -> Display -> Mobile Bravia Engine

Dude, this is definitely not a battery saving mode. There is no need for batery saving mode when displaying dark screen, and the problem occurs when displaying dark images or any other dark media, app or non-app. every single time.

OMG... Mobile bravia engine has apsolutely nothing to do with with that, because bravia engine works only in phones stock apps for viewing videos and pictures, and the effect is not even similiar to screen dimming. It brings more saturated colors and that is all.
Same problem is posted here: http://communities.sonyericsson.com/thread/61560?start=0&tstart=0 and Sony replied "I'm sorry that it has taken so long but I have done some testing now using a later software and I'm not able to replicate the issue that you guys report so I assume it's fixed." It is more than obvious that they like to close their eyes on every single problem that occurs. Thank you Sony for your gorgeous support to your beloved customers. I cant be more sarcastic, of course.

It's not my way, it's the way it is. If one understands what mobile bravia engine is, one could never offered it as a solution to a problem that has nothing to do with it. I'm terribly sorry if I ofended you, and I apologize for my attitude. I'm not mad at you, or anybody else here, I just don't see why would one write something just to be written. I know my T-Rex wery well, and I know there is no "normal" way to turn this dimming crap off, so I posted my question here, and expected that someone of the experts would offer some kind of solution to that. And I got things like "turn automatic brightness off", or "turn mobile bravia engine off" even though I previously mentioned that i tried all that stuff. People are "trying" to "help" me here, and they didn't even read what I've written. I'm really not one of guys that would post a question here just to be posted, I searched the crap out of the internet, and I found apsolutely nothing helpfull. That's why I decided to open this thread, to hear what experts have to say.

There is already a thread about this. I won't write it again.

Thank you very much. I suppose you're talking about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909710&page=16
My phone is rooted and I can't change those values. Can you explain me how to change this? I went to that system location via root explorer, but i can't do much from that point. If I try to open it in text editor it says that this is read only and can't be changed.
Thanx in advance.

If you are rooted, you need root explorer and mount the directoty as RW, then open in text editor

Thank you guys very much! Changed values, and rebooting my phone...everything is fine now, no more stupid dimming. However...I noticed that color adjusment is still visible when changing from dark screen to colorfull bright one. So the dimming is now definitely gone, but that color adjusment is still visible, like it changes contrast a bit, from worse to better, it is clearly visible. Any ideas about that?
I'm uploading a video I recorded with my webcam to get you a closer look. I'll post a link once it's uploaded.
Video will be live here in a couple of minutes: http://youtu.be/fHozO8zGZ1Y
After I managed to turn off DLS, that auto-contrast thing still remains. If you look closely, you'll se that the blue facebook stripe (and everything else) slightly changes its color/contrast when returning from the gray screen. But DLS was much bigger pain in the ass and I'm very pleased with the result od turning it off.

x reality for mobile off - battery better?

Does anyone of you know how much battery can be saved if i turn off x reality? And where is x reality active? only in the album app by sony or also during ui of android or browser?
i made some tests and you can see that after a picture has been rendered in the album app then the picture gets more colorful and sharper like a blend effect/fadein would been applied to it.
Not really sure how much processing power thus energy this consumes. However, I could see sharpening to happen even with X-reality / Vivid mode turned off. Think the phone just pre-loads the picture partly in order to speed things up and only when fully loaded it displays the full/sharp picture. Changing the colors on top might not consume much.

Moto Display issues after 6.0 update

Hello All,
The new update is really smooth but it seems to have affected my favorite feature Moto Display with some weird issues.
1) DND doesn't automatically deactivate the sensors like Moto Assist used to keep the screen dark and the phone still flashes notifications at night. Does that consumer battery and affect Doze?
2) We cand choose the screen to go dark from 11pm-6am in Moto Display, but they removed the option to define custom timings. So now its either 11pm-6am or have the phone flash notification all night?
3) The flashing interval for Moto Display also seems to have been reduced and it flashes too often now, which becomes a little annoying if the phone is in front of you.
Are these issues for everyone or am I missing something? Any comments or workarounds would be helpful.

I own Moto X 2014, but still Lollipop, not receive Marshmallow yet. But i find some changlog on Motorola, I see :
Sleeping and Meeting - to keep your phone quiet while you are sleeping or while you are busy in a meeting you may wish to consider using the Do not disturb feature from Android. To set it up, swipe the status bar down with two fingers and tap the gear icon at the top right corner of your screen. Once in the Settings menu, scroll down and tap Sound & notification, then go to Do not disturb. To keep your screen dark while you are sleeping, open the Moto app, tap the icon on the top right corner of your screen, then go to Display and set the time under Keep screen dark.

Tap the time in Moto display settings to choose what hours you would like the display to be off. The features in Marshmallow just have been relocated from what they were in Lollipop.
Ok, sorry. I got it. I tried hitting the numbers earlier but it just got deselected. Trying to tap those ain't easy with your thumb I guess. Worked now. Thanks guys!
Sent from my Moto X 2014.

White balance settings S20 FE Exynos

Hello everyone,so yesterday i recieved my new S20FE from my service provider. At first glance it seems to be a decent device. Anyway, while setting up the phone,i found that the "white balance" controls under the display settings, dont appear to be changing any colour aspects of my screen at all. No matter how i adjust the Red,Green and Blue control sliders, the the screen remains exactly the same.
Am i doing something wrong,or have i missed something? When compared to my Sony Xperia XZ2 which also has white balance controls that actually work,i may add. The Samsungs screen appears very dull and the whites are more of a cream tone than actual white, which frustrates me. Has anyone else had issues with the colour adjustment on their S20FE and is there a way to get my whites from cream to actual white?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
@Trace.Oneil I have the 5G snapdragon version and tested Vivid screen mode today. it was so garish that had to try adjusting the RGB values underneath. that too made ZERO DIFFERENCE on my phone.
I quickly went back to natural.
PS, I can't remember much about it but I've heard there's a 3rd screen mode that's hidden and can be activated with ADB. maybe look that up.

Thanks,i actually found that online and gave it a try. Although there are some differences between the modes, the RGB sliders still dont work with any of them so you cant fine-tune your screen to your preferred colour settings which is a total waste. Why even include it in the software build if it does'nt work.
I was wondering if the other modes take too much power and that's why they were hidden.
maybe that could apply to the slider ?

I doubt it would be a power issue. The mode to me that is the most intense with colour,is Vivid and that is not hidden. I think Samsung forgot about the RGB settings to be honest, and that is probably why they dont work.
