I have a Nexus One running cm7 theme Inexus and I love this phone. Its in great shape and never thought in my mind I would ever consider selling it. Everything about it since I first got it, does everything I want it to do. Now comes into the question. I'm with T-Mobile and been with them since the begining but I feel it's time to say goodbye to them for couple different reasons. Looks like I'm going to go with cincinnati bell and they told me I could use my Nexus One with them that was great news. When I was at the store I picked up the Galaxy S and felt pretty good.
Whats the pros and cons of Nexus One and the Galaxy S. Or even though the Galaxy S felt good not on same level of N1?
Thanks for all that might beable to help me with this question.
I'm looking into buying cheap android, is this device still ok for android 4.0 usage ?
Thanks
you actually have a decent experience. I'm using my Nexus One since my other phone broke. I probably will be using this phone for a long long time until I save enough money to buy a new phone
ICS or Jelly Bean, they both are pretty smooth and stable, and functional
no.

I recommand you to buy At least nexus S above if you are looking for an android device that works properly on android 4.0 above.
I love my nexus one and I've run a jellybean rom on it for up to maybe 6 weeks (evervolv 4.1) it seemed to be the most stable for me out of all of them but there was a 3 second call delay on almost every rom I tried except cm7.2 and stock 2.3.6 it had when I bought it. I tried the latest 4.2 stuff and I always end up with one problem or other despite that the phone technically does work and only occasionally froze or rebooted.
Since my girlfriend has an iPhone 4s and we all know they are pretty stable if nothing else and she does pick up my phone from time to time. With cm7.2 it may be outdated but its very fast and as reliable as the iPhone in my experience. Now I don't have to worry about her whining about my "stupid phone".

ICS and JB are stable for this device, but not so very fast or smooth.
But it is cheap, and beautiful. That's all.
I have used all Nexus phones and IMHO you should go for a Nexus S.
Nexus One is a awesome phone but 4.0 is a bit heavier than 2.3, so it lags a bit.

Keep in mind that Nexus S does not have microSD card.
if you wanna play with Android 4.0,I suggest you to get at least Gnex or something later than N1. It may perform better than that.
CM 10.1 runs flawelesly on both GNex and NexS.

Similar experience here. Installed a jb rom on my old nexus one for my daughter to use. Very surprised, more than acceptable for daily use. Video recording seems to glitch a bit though.

Nowdays? I think is not worth the money, but, ey! it runs fluently some 4.0 roms.
It was my first android smartphone and I'm in love with it, I'm not going to sell the N1, now I have a SGS3 but my N1 still serves my for tethering purposes hehe
galaxy nexus shoud be better.
I should say it depends on your budget. I suppose the N1 is available for ~180$ on Amazon. But with that cash would you be able to get another phone with better hardware/upgraded software? There are way more options now.
JB and ICS Roms are right now pretty stable for the N1. As 350Rocket says, there are a few niggles, but the phone can easily be a daily driver. With GB, having used both CM 7.2 and MIUI 2.3.30,I've gotta say it is rock solid stable
Personally, I love this phone's looks and having been my first Android (got it back in 2009), it holds a special place in my heart
Hi guys,
I might be getting a Nexus One (for a good price) at the end of the week.
Is there anything i should look at? Check for typical problems? It is not brand new so i don`t want to end up with a broken device.
Thanks in advance!
Sorry for bad english!

The Nexus one is a decent basic smartphone if you keep it on Gingerbread. It'll bog down a bit with ICS or JB but for the most part will still be useable. You can find them for around $100 or less. Just beware of the limited storage. If you can spare a couple extra dollars I would go with a Nexus S.
Get a Nexus 4. Its cheap and a huge bump from whatever you have.

Hi guys, I bought a galaxy s4 recently and now "samsung exclusive" offers me a galaxy gear for 150€ (half of the official price at least in italy).
I'm a bit excited with the idea of rooting it and putting Null rom... my simple questions are:
1)my gs4 is rooted too, using SlimBean rom. Do I need some samsung app to deal with the phone?
2)battery life of the phone and battery life of the watch if I leave them connected the whole day?
It's worth to buy it? The price is good?

the price is good, and for the rest it varies. without fomey rom, it's not even worth to think about the watch.
not sure if galaxy s4 works without stock rom, surely some people were able to use it with custom, but there is more hassle with it.

thanks for the reply, I have 4 days to decide... then the offering expires.
My phone has to stay with custom rom, I simply hate touchwiz....
So the question is: galaxy s4 + galaxy gear, both with custom rom... can they work together? How?
There are threads, people can tether the Gear to many Android devices, Read about it yesterday, Search the forum
All that was meet is with stock 4,3 ROM on the support S4 the process is easy, I hate Touchwiz too and I run Nova Launcher and delete bloatware.
the thread about using your GG with any Android phone is right below your post.

Im sorry if this is a stupid or redundant question but im sick of TouchWiz and want to try stock Android but thanks to AT&T locking the bootloader for no reason i cant do that. I have installed Safestrap and am using a custom ROM called Dynamic Kat Xtreme but its not the same as true AOSP. So yeah anyway to get around the bootloader? Im new here so again sorry if this has been answered already.
Nope

I kno TouchWiz has it's issues but, even with an unlocked bootloader I don't think I'd ever go with an AOSP rom, reason cause the main feature is S-Pen. If you really want stock android better off selling Note 3 an get a Nexus device. Or if you have the extra cash go online an buy a used phone that way you have two phones, an just which SIM cards having TouchWiz base an other phone with AOSP roms that way, every other day you can switch or whatever you want.
My opinion one the whole reason of Note is it's S-Pen features, if I don't have that plus it's high end spec an comes 32gb, I would have bought Galaxy S series, plus AOSP roms don't really have a true multi window either
I had a friend that had Note 2 an he put CM11 which it ran nice an all but it took out all the features that that make it a note phone, can't use S Note either, honestly Note 2 runs best with DN4 rom which is TouchWiz based.
AT&T Note 3, if you gunna run a rom with SS, best rom I've seen is Tweaked 5S Base/ N4 Style or just run Stock root.
Again every one has there own opinions but if you really wanted a stock android phone than you shouldn't have bought Note 3 from AT&T known of it's locked bootloader, There r many other Android phones on the market!
Only reasons y I would like a bootloader unlock is that way we don't have to wait for a new exploit for a root, an run different kernels but I would still run TouchWiz base, you can cover up TouchWiz with launchers if you wanted

Honestly I just updated to Note 3 from iPhone 4S, I'm hating IOS with 7 & 8 an jailbreak community isn't that good anymore dev. don't update tweaks an drop support, an no downgrade once updated you stuck,
I wish I could afforded Note 4 but for being college student I can't note 3 getts the job done an as of AT&T note 3 community looked pretty dead as we'll but hopefully with future coming with 5.0 lollipop SS will get updated so we can use newer rom base higher than 4.4.2,
beside that the price is what look me to the note 3, $150 under 2 year contract which is better than $299 if you kno what I mean plus still has high end specs for today's phone better than S5 an Galaxy Alpha for those r $199, now note 3 AT&T you can downgrade 4.4.4 NJ5 an to 4.4.2 NC2 an root with towelroot so it's nice at least I have root out of box with help of the forums with Odin Full restore
An with SS you can kernel swap, walk around to using 4.4.4 NJ5 SS, an hopefully there r more note 4 roms based on 4.4.2 come to note 3 with new features an works with N900A an works on AT&T
But good luck with your phone I understand you don't like TouchWiz but as I said maybe you need to look for different phone other than Samsung but again you lose great features that TouchWiz has to offer :/
There isn't a perfect smartphone
It's not all bad
I'm also looking at AOSP roms, but that's for another thread...
Personally with my Note 3, I'm content with the factory firmware. After a LOT of tweaking anyways. Titanium Backup to freeze apps if your friend. I froze a TON of factory apps and services and installed Google's version of most everything. I'm actually going 2 days on the battery before it's at 10%. I've also found, I don't use the SPen a whole lot. Most of the gesture/control stuff isn't habit for me. The handwriting, while good, is a bit akward on this size device. I mostly like the drawing (ok my daughter does) and quick note taking fuction of the pen.
Hello,
I've order the 64Gb S6 deal from T-Mobile. I've been a lifetime Nexus user from the Nexus One. I've always stuck to pure Android and the phone I currently have is the Nexus 5. I've purchase every generation of Nexus phone except for the Nexus 6 because I didn't like the size. The S6 seems like a winner and I'm already use to a non-removable battery and no SD card. I'm not sure how I'll deal with TW(heard it's been toned down) vs stock Android. That really is my biggest worry and I've been researching a way to uninstall all the bloatware(T-Mobile) without rooting(Though I might do that with PingPong and deal with manual updates). I really wish they would have released a Google Play Edition. I am pretty excited about the class leading hardware, especially the camera. Others who have switched from stock Android to the S6, how do you feel? Loving it? Ready to switch back to a Nexus device? Let me know! Thanks!
Also I'm a avid Google Now, Ok Google user.
My last couple phones were stock android (one plus one, nexus, moto x) and I'll tell you, I don't miss them. The s6 is that good. Battery could be better, but I'm hoping rooting helps (I'm on day one of a custom ROM so we'll see). I also use the "OK google" phrase a lot, so you'll be disappointed to know it doesn't work on the s6 for some reason unless you're using google now or google launcher.
I was in the same boat as you. I went from a 32gb Nexus 5 on AT&T to 64gb Galaxy S6 T-Mo. I'm not a big save my entire music collection on my phone guy, I prefer streaming services. 32gb Nexus was fine for me and battery life sucked. I love the GS6, super fast, I find the battery life more than acceptable, I'm rooted via Ping Pong and actually don't mind Touchwiz this time around. Hated it on my GS2 Skyrocket and GS4. I just rooted and plan to update with Flashfire to keep Knox intact
I was worried about keeping KNOX intact too. I used to install custom ROMs back in the day but as Android has gotten better I haven't done it on recent phones. I just wanted to be able to uninstall bloatware so that's why I'm thinking about rooting. I love the fact that the T-Mobile version has no carrier branding and now I can't wait till this thing gets here. Other than software do you know how different the T-Mo version is from the international version?
N6 64GB to S6 64GB. No remorse whatsoever. Especially with a Tab S also, having things like SideSync is great.

Not any major differences. If anything T-Mo variant has a few extra features like voLTE and WiFi Calling enabled by default. I went with the JUMP option when I switched to T-Mo so I only have to pay off half the device to upgrade. I see no reason to get international version over T-Mo variant. If it were AT&T or International I'd go international all day. My girlfriend has the AT&T variant as she is still on a family plan with big corporate discount. With Flashfire the locked AT&T bootloader isn't crippling but more of an inconvenience
I went from the Nexus 5 to OnePlus One (CM12) and now to the S6. I love the S6. I use the Google Now launcher instead of TW and it doesn't feel all the much different to me. I like the added gestures TW brings (such as palm swipe for a screenshot).
For the bloatware, I simply disable it in the applications menu. When you disable them, the app also disappears from the app drawer.
I was Team Nexus for a while and had a GNex, Nexus 4, 5, and 6. I switched to the S6 because the N6 was too big for my taste and the S6 hardware was just so damn nice (body, camera).
Do I miss stock Android? Hell yes. There's very little (if anything) that TW does better. However, after a few hours of research and tweaking, I've got my S6 looking and feeling as close to a Nexus as possible. I recommend Nova Launcher, Moonshine icon pack, and Hifont to help with that. Also I rooted (before PingPong was available, unfortunately) and used TiBu to freeze all the bloatware I don't need. I'm pretty happy, but I'd be even happier if someone could get this Material Design theme ported to the T-Mobile variant!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6/themes-apps/wip-material-design-theme-s6e-t3108155
For what it's worth, my S6 (with no mods other than frozen bloatware) is as snappy as my Nexus 6 running stock 5.1 with Faux kernel.
ping pong root. You basically root the stock rom, knox is NOT tripped. So its good as long as yuou only want to make small changes to your rom (like getting rid of bloat completely and not just disabling it).
Thats what i did and it worked AMAZINGLY well.

Yeah, I think that's my plan. From all the review of current TW I don't think I'll mind so much. I just want to be rid of all the bloat I won't use. The phone feels amazing and I'm waiting for a glass screen protect now before I start using it. How do you guys feel about the recent new of possibly 2 new nexus phones coming out?

Really TW isnt that bad on the s6 now. I can deal with it. and honestly until this phone i have been a "gotta get a glass screen protector before i buy the phone" kinda guy. i have had this one without one and i havent scratch the screen once (have had it in my pocket with screws and nail on accident too a few times). I may end up ordering one, but i HATE the fact that the screen is curved on the sides and the protector doesnt go to the edge. IMO, just looks janky.
the 2 nexus phones is super interesting. I am REALLY hoping that the smaller LG made nexus is real cause i MIGHT be all over that. I had the g3 before this and really liked it. I did what they did with the g4, and as long as the new nexus takes the camera from the g4, that might be my next jump upgrade when it comes out. lol Not interested in a phone bigger than 5.5" anymore. After having the g3 for 6 months, and now going back to the smaller s6, i think this screen size is my sweet spot for sure.

Same experience for moving from a Nexus 6 to a S6.
Your making the right move op. I am not missing the stock experience at all as we already have Root / twrp / (tw for now, 920 T/F) ROM's / kernels / themes here. I've been busy flashing and finding largely positive results; devs are cool / smart peeps here. Much more stable options here imo.
Even just rooting and casually dialing back touchwiz to your liking is easy with titanium.
Moreover, the S6 hardware is largely unmatched to date. Backing up a 4.3gb .zip in twrp took 192/secs; octa 64bit rocks even on little stuff like that. Its not perfect, but its arguably THE superior android flagship right now.
