Just a couple weeks ago, my brother received a Sprint Moto X from a friend, because he said it had a virus and his phone would reboot at random. My first thought was, "Oh, simple RSD Lite restore should do the trick." But, i can't find 212.44.28 4.4.4 for the Sprint version anywhere. Not the rom, the xml.zip. My question for everyone is this: is this a bad update, or a virus? I've only reset it within the phone via recovery, so would an RSD Lite flash do the trick?

Have you tried wiping the cache partition? I haven't heard of a sprint 4.4.4 xml.zip file being released, but when it is, it'll quickly make it's way to this page http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0
Yeah I cleared the cache. I noticed it took around 15-25 minutes, and it restarted when it was done. Is that a bad sign?

Restarted after it rebooted into Android and upgraded the apps?

Actually no. it was just clearing the cache, and just restarted out of the blue. Powered up as if it was turned off. (Not sure if i quite understand what you're referring to)
When you wipe dalvik and cache, Android OS has to rebuild the cache which it does when you see "Android is upgrading x of xxx"
Never experienced any of my Android devices rebooting in its own after wiping dalvik and cache.

Hi,
I own a Moto X DE for few days. It runs Kit Kat, and is unlocked and rooted with TWRP. Today, I've got a notification about an OS update. But when I try to update my system, the phone reboots on the TWRP menu, and no way to update.
Any idea about this?
Thanks.
I have a the T Mobile (Same as Dev). Had it rooted and bootloader unlocked. I didn't really care for saving data tbh. So what I did was return to stock.
Already had the 4.4 in my fastboot folder. So I booted into recovery and wiped everything.
Then went back to download mode and fastbooted the T-Mobile 4.4 version. Ran phone setup, check for update and installed. Took about 10 minutes max.
Though of course this is one way out of a few. The stickies in this section have the various ways. Find one which better suits you.
Do note you should not take OTA with root and a custom recovery

Thanks, should have read a bit before asking. Sorry, and thanks again for the help.
Okay, so I see all these threads with everyone saying they have the official 4.4 OTA. My mom's AT&T Moto X still hasn't gotten it…is there something wrong with her phone?
If there's not a fix, can I download the official 4.4 OTA and flash it somehow? Her phone is not rooted or unlocked, and I don't intended to do either to the phone.

4.4? or 4.4.2?
4.4.2 isn't out for the ATT locked Moto X yet.
Either. I am still on 4.2.2.

Go here and download the Motorola Device Manager and you can update it through that. It is a lot safer.
Motorola Device Manager
Instructions for Using Motorola Device Manager to Update Your Moto X
If that doesn't work, you are going to need to back up her phone and do a factory reset.
I'm in the same situation
I retruned my moto x to carrier for a replacement(this one had all ota), and the new one doesn't receive any ota so far(1 week since this), nothing worked, Device Manager, Restoring it, Wipe Data/cache, Deleting cache from Framework google o reset the process, switched to 3g wifi, etc. What should i do?
PS: I phoned motorola and claro, they are tossing the ball beetween them

How did you restore it, factory reset? If so, you could try using RSD Lite to flash the sbf firmware for your carrier. You need the app MotorolaOTA to get the update. Maybe there is a problem with MotorolaOTA. If you froze MotorolaOTA, that is the problem.
If flashing the firmware for your carrier using RSD Lite doesn't work, it sounds like an IMEI problem with Motorola not recognizing your IMEI as being in need of the OTA. Call Motorola back and try to get to Tech Level 3. The first level are not very tech savvy. Next level is better, but not as good as Tech Level 3. You have to wait for a call back to get to Tech Level 3 or at least I did.

You can always ask. I had to go through Tech Level 2 before I got a call back. They are based in Texas so call during M-F 9-5 CST.

Yes you can install RSD Lite and then "flash" ATT_XT1058_4.4-13.11.1Q2.X-69-3_CFC_1FF.xml
google the file name, download it and upzip it

Aha! When you said "freeze MotoOTA" that reminded me that I had disabled the app because it kept FCing when I got the phone. I enabled that…we'll see if it works now.
Dear all. I am trying to restore, due to Titanium Backup Pro halting while integrating system updates into rom (I'll never do that again). Because of me doing that, the Google framework was the app that was reintegrating... thus my entire phone was soft-borked. I am trying to restore, but every time I run either the commands listed here and the Moto X Toolkit 1.3.4. Both result in sitting at this point in an infinite loop (waited 20 minutes each time):
Screenshot
Please tell me my phone is not bricked. I just bought the thing, and I made a quick decision to try integrating system updates, which had no problem on my old phone. And I take it that my protection plan does not cover this, even though my phone is a VZW Dev Edition. They would count it as my fault by unlocking the bootloader, wouldn't they? I would think that the warranty at this point still covers things like cracked screens (which I wanted), but not things that are my fault.
I have 4.4 KitKat installed.
Edit: It also sits here indefinitely sometimes:
INDEFINITELY SOMETIMES (lol - makes so much sense)

Didn't realize there was such a thing. I was relying strictly on Google. Thanks, I'll try.
Edit: Lol.... so that's what an SBF is.. I had no idea it was practically the same package.
Edit: Apparently my phone must be bricked. It says "Connected", but can't read any version information. :
Screenshot Edit: NVM... used wrong XML.
It's flashing now. And....FINALLY!!! It continued!
Phone is booting now! Thanks so much.

Apparently that XML in that post doesn't erase userdata or customize. I needed this because of my Google services framework problem (apparently my backup was deleted from TiBu, and it was already integrated into the rom...again, never doing that again), so I added the entries to the XML. Phone is first-time booting, and the wizard showed up at boot.
Thanks again.
Never....ever....ever restore system apps with titanium backup...or any app. You've seen why.
I'm sure you know...but others reading this. Never.

But what about reintegrating the system app updates that are downloaded from the market? They normally can't replace the system app, because the system partition is write-protected (of course). TiBu has an option to reintegrate these into the system partition.
Greetings,
Just bought a VZW Moto X 2014 loaded with 5.0. Unfortunately, right after I powered it on, it pulled down the 5.1 OTA, though it appears to have deferred the installation, which is good, as I intend to give it the MOFO treatment shortly.
Questions:
1. How can I continue to defer the installation?
2. If I do a factory reset (I still have another phone to use), assuming the 5.1. didn't install yet, will it wipe the download?
3. If I can factory reset and eliminate the 5.1 download, how can I avoid this repeating? With my original Moto X, I was able to freeze the MotoOTA after I rooted it.
TIA,
GG

Same thing. Freeze MotoOTA after rooting and clear your cache to get rid of the OTA file.
Thanks.
Do I need to worry about the update self-executing at some point, similar to what I saw on my HTC One? Or will it stay dormant until it is activated by the user?

Not sure if it will. Best bet is to clear the cache once you freeze MotoOTA that way it will delete the OTA sitting on your device.
Took a huge gamble and tried to upgrade from 4.4 to 5.1 with this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/xt1053-retail-stock-lollipop-flashable-t3155843)
ROM was working great, but I lost native tethering which I need for work. Tried the Xposed Moto X Tether app but that didn't work.
Welp, it was a good thing I made a backup before I flashed to 5.1, so I decided to do a restore. TWRP got past the Restoring Data part, but is now stuck on the Wiping Cache part...
I factory resetted prior to doing the backup restore.
Does anyone know how I can restore my phone properly? Hoping I didn't brick it...or else I'm going to have to call the office tomorrow and have some explaining to do
My phone is a rooted Dev Edition on Verizon if that makes any difference
What version of TWRP are you using?
2.3.xx if I remember correctly?
I'm pretty sure it's quite outdated as I haven't touched it in a good year or two.
