New Neflix post-play feature doesn't work on my Chromecast - Google Chromecast

Hello,
Netflix released an update today for their Android app that allows post-play screens and next episode countdowns. I tried using it on my Nexus 5 but the post-play screen doesn't load on the phone, or the TV. Does anyone have the same issue?
I have Eureka ROM, possibly the latest OTA on the Chromecast and I'm connected through an Unlocator DNS that I pay for and have it set up on my main Netgear AC1900 router. I've been having issues with post-play also on PC but figured out Silverlight was the issue. Don't know about this though.
Thank you sincereously for any input!

Seems the new Netflix app (on phone/tablet) doesn't work with DNS redirection/location masquerading.

Chromecast doesn't work for Netflix streaming

Hi,
I was lucky enough to grab a last price today from best buy n feel quite proud owner of most sort after device
It works beautifully integrated with chrome browser irrespective of devices and plays HD videos from YouTube smoothly.
But then doesn't play Netflix videos for some strange reasons... Says " unable to connect to netflix. please try again or visit chromecast "
Had a chat with customer care of Netflix they have no clue about this.
FYI Netflix works perfectly in standalone laptop or android phone.
I had done factory reset of chrome cast and my internet speed is > 15 MBS with n series wireless router
Any advice will be highly appreciable
Thanks

Same issue for me. It appears to be an issue with Netflix but there's no way to report is as they are clueless when it comes to the Chromecast.

I've had a couple of random errors with Netflix as well, all the while it worked fine on my computer. For me though, they've worked themselves out after an hour or so. Haven't had time to dig an further into it.

Same here.
Since I just picked up the unit yesterday, first try with Netflix had connection issues. Then about an hour later, Netflix worked flawlessly.

Surprisingly :fingers-crossed:.. Netflix worked after a day .. Chromecast works pretty well including HD movies with awesome sound ..
Its the Netflix app if you are using the new nexus 7 tablet. They probably updated it, but if you still have issues try uninstall and reinstall or FC and clear data and cache.

Very surprised to read this. I have streamed at least 20 shows since getting it.
So far never an issue or glitch. It runs flawlessly.
I am curious to see what the issue is for people.
I was casting from my desktop and note2. Both didn't work at the time, but like I said, the connection issue resolved itself about an hour later which leads me to believe it was on Netflix's end.
Same issueIthink
Hi Guys,
I'm having the same issue. I have set up DNS addresses to unotelly ones and Netflix is working perfectly on PC's and android devices but when I cast from within the app it appears on a red screen with Netflix on it and a spinning timer ......it just sits there doing this with no change. Wish I could get it sorted. Youtube on HD works fine but just can't get Netflix to cast. Most frustrating.
Any help would be appreciated.
remember guys you can't stream movies on dialup connections, you gotta have a robust connection to stream hd and not see any wacky things going on with your devices.
Buggar just found this on unotelly site
Setting Up UnoDNS for Chromecast (Requires DD-WRT Router)
Modified on: Fri, Oct 11, 2013 at 1:20 PM
Google's Chromecast devices allow you to stream Netflix and other channels directly on your TV. Chromecast however has hard-coded Google DNS servers and offers no way to change them. In order to access unblocked apps on the Chromecast, the Google DNS requests need to be rerouted to UnoDNS servers at the router level.
Since most routers don't have this functionality, the only way Chromecast devices will work with UnoDNS is with a supported DD-WRT enabled Router. Chromecast is NOT SUPPORTED in any other way until further notice.

I have found a solution that should work with almost any router, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47609732&postcount=103
I, fortunately, have had no problems with Netflix.
I have a Netgear router.
No issues here either.

Chrome only sees Cast when wired to Router

Hello everyone.
I've been trying to cast from my laptop but I don't see it (No Cast Devices found). I'm able to cast effortlessly from my Android device though.
Now, after poking here and there I tried connecting my laptop directly to the router and then Chrome detected my cast device.
Any idea of what it could be? This may be the wrong forum to post this but not even Google Support has figured out what's wrong.
Thanks!
I have the same problem, obviously I don't know how to fix it
Do you have a dual band router that is broadcasting 2.4 and 5 ghz signals? I've read of people having issues when the Chromecast uses 2.4 and your computer is trying to connect via the 5ghz network. Personally I have iPads and my Android phone connecting over 5ghz while my Chromecast is on 2.4 and don't have any problems. But perhaps it is a router issue. I use a WAP running DD-WRT, so it is better than most OEM routers out there.

There should not be an issue with connecting on different bands unless you segregate the 5ghz band on your router. Most routers are not setup to do that but if you have made changes, it is possible.
I checked the AP isolation thing before posting. So it wasnt that. I also flashed DD-WRT on it just to make sure. Same result.
We all on the same network/SSID.
Google cant figure out why Chrone only sees it only when wired im still waiting for them to come back with a workaround. If they do ill post it.

wild guess... if its not AP isolation maybe your wifi card has a firewall enabled and your Ethernet port doesn't?

I'm on the same boat with a "similar" problem. I have a Netgear N900 dual band router, but the issue persists while my main laptop (Win7) is connected via WiFi to either band (2.4GHz or 5.0GHz) or if I connect it directly to the router via Ethernet wire. Using the Chromecast app from the same laptop works without a hitch. I can also ping the Chromecast IP address without a problem. I have rebooted several times, uninstalled and re-installed Chrome and the Google Cast extension, but it makes no difference. I believe that the plugin is conflicting with "something" in this specific laptop. The issue is not with the LAN. All devices are on the same Network segment and respond to pings. The Google Cast extension works fine from two other laptops running Win7 with a similar setup, running the same version of the Chrome browser and Google Cast. I can also cast from my Android mobile devices (Nexus 7 & SGS3) using youtube. Suggestions anyone?
UPDATE:
The conflict was being caused by an active "virtual" network adapter. Specifically, the Leaf Network adapter that was installed with Netgear's ReadyShare Cloud. I guess this adapter works as a VPN to connect to the ReadyShare Cloud. I disabled this adapter and the Chromecast discovery worked. Apparently, the Chrome Cast extension is not smart enough to avoid virtual (VPN) adapters and link with the Primary (physical) wired/wireless adapter. At minimum, the extension should have an option to select the adapter to use. I don't user ReadyShare that frequently so having the adapter disabled does not bother me much.
The new update rolling out today is suppose to improve discovery so perhaps it will fix some of these issues.

Thanks for the heads up. Is this a firmware update for the dongle or an updated Chrome Cast extension? Regardless, is there a a place where I can read about this update or a way for me to manually download it?
Btw, I found the conflict with my setup... I have updated my previous post.
Got the Chromecast dongle "firmware" OTA update today. It went from release 12072 (shipped) to release 12840.. I don't think this is a "new" update that's supposed to be rolling out today.. If discovery was supposed to be improved with this release, it did not fix the issue with my ReadyShare Cloud virtual VPN adapters. Once I enable the Leaf Network adapter the device disappears from the Chrome Cast pull down. After reading about it a bit more, it appears that this 12840 OTA update patches the exploit used to get root. Oh well... does anyone know if there are any new features or what else is fixed with the 12840 release?

Chromecast and Wifi Tether

I have been trying to get my chromecast to work correctly on a wifi network tethered from my GNex and I was hoping to gather info from others trying the same.
So far to get the chromecast to show up on my tethered network I had to set it up on a standard network first. Once it had updated to the latest version it then works on the tethered network. This means that I can see the chromcast from other devices on the tethered network.
What I am trying to achieve is to use my GNex as the wifi hotspot AND connect to the chromecast. With the newest update this has been working but only with Play Music. I have tried RemoteCast and that works but Netflix, and Youtube do not. Bubble uPNP does not recognize the chromecast either.
Anyone have similar/different experiences?
It seems like the issue is that the apps are not recognizing the chromecast's broadcast on a tethered (ip isolation) network.

I was using hotspot on my gs4 and everything worked fine. I think the gnex tether is booked because I still can't use it on a windows PC, only other android and iOS devices.

Screen casting with rooted Cc and no internet connection

I'm trying to get my stock Pixel to screen cast reliably to a Chromecast in my car. I've tried with a wi-fi hotspot and this seemed to drop out randomly which wasn't helpful whilst driving and then other times it wouldn't see an internet connection through it despite the phone being online.
So I've gone down the road of using a raspberry pi as a portable hotspot and rooting a Chromecast. This is more reliable once connected however the process of connecting is a bit tricky. At the moment I have to give the Chromecast an internet connection through a USB tether to the pi then connect to the wi-fi and cast screen. Eventually disconnecting the tether and the phone falls back to cell data whilst still casting the screen. My question is can I stop a rooted Chromecast with Eureka ROM needing an internet connection to be able to receive screen casts? I must note for some reason it only needs to be connected once after boot after that it will still be able to cast to despite complaining of no internet connection. Which is different to what a non rooted Cc did so it's like it's almost there but not quite.

I think the first thing to realize is, that the chromecast is not primarily intended as a screen mirror receiver. [...] There are great miracast receivers that do basically what you want.

@Morphy99 - You should try the Miracast receiver from Microsoft (Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter v2). Works great with my Nexus 7 (2013) on Android 6 and the app "SecondScreen" for screen ratio correction! :good:
Yes I realise this unfortunately with the Pixel unrooted miracast is not possible. Another reason I should have gone Samsung. Ive got a cheap ez cast dongle coming which hopefully will do it, although I'm sceptical at the minute. I'll update you if it works.

Can't screen mirror on Roku or allshare cast. Anyone else able to screen mirror?

Have not been able to screen mirror to my TV through either my Roku (I have a Roku 3 and Roku stick and same issue on both). I have never had a problem using the wireless screen mirror function with my Roku's before. I also have allshare cast on my Samsung DVD/surround sound system, and it will never connect the wireless screen mirror from my phone either. My phone will say it is connected to the Roku's, but it will sit there on the Roku screen on the TV at about 30% of the bar that comes up when the phone is first loading the screen mirroring to the TV.
Yesterday I almost bought a chromecast dongle yesterday to see if that will work for screen mirroring, but figured I should ask here if anyone else has had an issue wirelessly screen mirroring with their Note 9. TIA any help appreciated!

Thanks for the info. My S8+ and Note 8 both used to cast fine to the Roku and my Samsung blu ray system. I still have my Note 8 and now it doesn't screen mirror anymore either. Thought it was just a Note 9 issue but it also plagues the Note 8 also. Maybe it's and android 8.0 issue?
Do you mean that you got a specific app from the playstore that was successful in screen mirroring? If so, may I ask what app you got that works? TIA.

I'm trying to remember what all it did it's been a while since I used it
My wife s8 casts just fine with stock app. Ive read a lot of horror stories with smart share and such all the way back to 5.1 or 6.0. Random issues with each update
Yeah, wireless screen mirroring has always been a bit stuttery. But at least it worked in the past. Now, it doesn't. I have tried my Note 9, Note 8 and my wife's old S8 (now our sons phone). None of them seem to work. Thought it was maybe my router settings or some setting on my phone, but don't think those are the issue. Still might buy the chromecast and see if it works. Although I read the chromecast has it's own issues and bugs. You'd think as tech gets better these thing would work better, but doesn't seem to be the case so far!

I've got that toggled on.... it still sits there at the "starting video from...." screen at about 30% of the bar. My phone says it's connected, but on the TV with Roku it never connects. Don't understand it.

So I DL'd the app and it does work to cast misc stuff to the Roku. It doesn't screen mirror though, and I really need a full screen mirror so I can mirror Watch ESPN from my phone to my TV.
Still can't get the Roku and phone to actually screen mirror - it just sits there on the "starting video from..." screen. Dunno WTH the problem is.
I finally got this to work. I went into the Roku settings and on the screen mirror settings I put "prompt" instead of "always allow". When the two devices tried to connect the Roku came up with the "allow device" prompt, I hit "allow" and it connects every time now.
I had also went into Smart View settings on my phone and looked at various settings there. I didn't see anything I thought would help, so I don't think it was any settings on the phone. Dunno for sure. I am just happy to have screen mirroring that is working now!

yea been a while since i tried it
Thats all my s8 does too i try wifi direct and smart screen or whatever
Ima try this guys fix and see if prompt works
Well I thought I had posted this earlier today, but for some reason my post didn't go through. I got screen mirroring to work via the Roku. What I did was go into the Roku settings and changed the Roku from "always" allow the phone to mirror to "prompt" before allowing. So after I changed that Roku setting, I went into Smart View and tapped on the Roku tab in smart view. The Roku then popped up with a message to "allow always", "allow once", or "deny" my phone from pairing to screen mirror. I hit "allow once" and immediately it worked. Tried it about 5 more times, it worked every time. Was able to mirror Watch ESPN and every app I tried.
Hopefully this was the cause of my issues and anyone else having problems can get it to work the way I did.
Screen Mirroring
There's an app called screen mirroring. I have a Note 9 and it works fine on a roku to mirror your screen to the TV.
