I have a 3 rooted chromecasts that won't seem to load netflix today. It says an error connecting to netflix.
Netflix still works on mobile, and web browsers on the same connection. anyone else experiencing this?

Yep the latest google update contains a new Netflix app and Team Eureka hasn't been able to update Eureka rom to include the newest version yet....
I believe they said it might go out this weekend but don't hold me (or more important them!) to that timeline....
It works on Mobile because it automatically updated to the newest version on your mobile but the new version only works with the latest CCast Update and we are currently one version behind on Eureka.
Be patient Team Eureka will get you fixed up soon....
cool I just wanted to know if I was unique. Thanks for the information.
New build is out. It fixes Netflix issue. Update rollout may take up to five days.

Yeah!! Totally unexpected. I'm really glad they just released.
Can't have the wife without netflix for up to five days......I just manualy flashcast their latest update and can confirm that netflix is working just fine.
I'm on rooted 12072 firmware with OTA disabled and like couple of days ago Im not able to cast Netflix from the laptop from my S3 and not even from my wife iPhone. You tube is working no problem. This has something to do with the new Netflix update on Chromecast end? Can I update chromecast with eureka firmware or I'm pretty much screwed? Thanks.

Update your Chromecast via Flashcast to build 19084.001 of Eureka-ROM. Then you can enjoy Netflix without problems again.
except manually upgrading requires you being physically next to the device with a usb drive and an OTG cable...
It is pretty annoying to not have an easy way to update yourself without hardware.
It should be an option in the web interface because it just wastes everyone's time who needs to update.
anyone have a way to force an update is over ssh?

You only need a usb drive and the OTG cable.
The new netflix works great on the new eureka rom.
I love the automatic playback of the next episode they added. It works great to marathon old doctor who while playing with my other chromecast.

I got the Android 3.1 update OTA this morning on my Stock Wi-Fi Xoom in the US. The update went through with no problems, but now I have just noticed that the Google "Videos" App for renting movies is no where to be found. I've looked in the Market as well and couldn't find it.
Any ideas as to why it isn't on my Xoom and how I could get it? Thanks.

I guess that is the problem. I don't see a Video/Movie app anywhere in my app list. Any idea as to why or where I can download it from?
Nvm, I checked other Xoom forums, including Motorola's forum, and have seen that the missing Videos app is a widespread problem, mostly on Wi-Fi Xooms. Hope Moto/Google fix this fast, I was hoping to rent a video for a trip I'm going on this weekend.
EDIT: Here is a quote from a forum manager over at Motorola:
"The rollout to Wifi users has started -- obviously -- but the Movies function won't be available from Google at rollout. Google is saying in the near future. My personal opinion only is that means probably two or three weeks, but again, that's just my opinion."
Well this stinks. Don't see any reason why they delayed movies for us Wi-Fi people.

i think that the video app is there bc when i go to tegra zone to watch a video on upcoming games i have to choose between Video player or another video app i have installed. im gonna try the video apk thing and see if it works.

there are much more useful roms and mods for the chromecast now made my devs who actually own the device. go use them. I am no longer doing anything at all with the chromecast. (I haven't found one at any local store with a serial number in the rootable range, and I have no use for a stock one.)
rooted images for the chromecast that will remove google's ability to update anything at will. Use this to save your open bootloader.

A factory reset will just wipe the data partition, so the device will still be safe from self-upgrading.

So we only need to flash one of these two images, correct? I'm assuming it's the first one, right? "gtvhacker-chromecast-12940.bin.gz" is tvall's image that we need to flash? After flashing that image, we'll be rooted, on the most current version, AND auto-updates will be disabled?

It is my understanding that one of Google's OTA's blocks local files streaming like Fling. Does your image contain the update that broke Fling?

IIRC, it wasn't an OTA update that broke Fling. Google made some changes server-side that broke it. The ChromeCast connects to Google servers (or 'phones home') during use. The developer of Fling used unsupported API calls in the app, which was built using the preview SDK. Google's updates invalidated those calls, essentially rendering the app useless. Google has stated that the breaking of local media casting was unintentional, and they do plan on allowing support in the future. At the moment, the ChromeCast can still be considered a device in testing. I don't think the official SDK is out yet.
AirCast was "reverse engineered" though, right? So if it didn't have that "time bomb" in it, it should still work, right?

Aircast is dead. Fling is dead. Rooting does not help. These are dead until some day Google decides to allow it. Google allows only a few apps : Netflix, YouTube, and Google provided content. Google could have decided that allcast and fling were so popular that permitting it like Netflix is permitted will increase sales. Google could have decided to permit allcast and fling, but decided against it.
So, you might have purchased the chromecast after reading about allcast as I did, and am disappointed with having purchased a device whose very few apps are uninteresting to me.
There are only a few choices :
1. Wait and hope google will permit allcast and Fling in the future.
2. Wait and see if developers will provide this functionality for rooted devices.
3. Sell the chromecast to someone who loves Netflix and netflix alone - who isn't interested in connectivity to the many other Internet content providers - like one has access to via Roku.
Actually, stores have many devices, either standalone or built into blu ray players which provides Netflix along with far more choices for Internet provided media. Google's chromecast looks very inferior to me.
In its current form, chromecast is probably a big disappointment to most people who have purchased it. The only hope is that it will become something better in the future - either directly from Google, or via developers.
At this time, rooting gets us nothing, except hope.

That's very odd. I didn't think that Fling would need to connect to Google servers in order to function. Shouldn't everything just work locally? If I unhook my cable modem and leave my router on, wouldn't Fling still function without the internet?

Tried the app, couldn't cast anything (hoped for entire tab casting, later saw it should allow only casting various videos on various webpages).
Maybe it works and would appeal to some but it's not really intuitive..

About a month initially with the Chromecast "preview" SDK and then a week to update it after the final SDK was released. It took longer because we didn't use the Cast SDK's companion library. We didn't like the default look and feel of Google's remote control buttons all squished up in one corner of the screen. Hope it helps.
...and with the latest update of vGet and its unusually high cost, this browser looks like a sweet deal. I might give it a better test this time around

Not sure what they added but I noticed it on my other non-rooted CCast.
Yes, I have it. But I don't know what's new.
Lets hope it doesn't have the usual breakage that past Google Updates have brought! LOL
I have it since Friday. Nobody knows what brings yet. Incredible, but every time a new version is released, the changeling is first published on Wikipedia, in Google Chromecast Article, but, as I said above, there are interrogations because is a misterious. Also, I don't know why they de-activated the option to send the serial number when searching updates.

That won't kill me though since I usually add an AAC 5.1 and AAC stereo track to all the movies in my library.
I am thinking of releasing an app that can mirror any android devices (starting from Android 2.3 up to android 5.1) to Chromecast receiver.
Since google's Chromecast app can support quite a lot devices, I am not sure if there are still enough interests to mirror android devices with old versions?or to mirror new android devices that Chromecast app do not support?
I did develop such an app, but never released it to public, it's working quite well actually.
Please let me know if you are interested in it, and I can post free versions here.

Have a rooted Nook HD+( on CM12.1 - lollipop 5.1 ) and chromecast 2015(new version). Regular casting works fine, but there is something preventing mirroring . When hitting casting selection the screen abruptly disconnects. I've tried a program called Mirrorenabler and it also will not mirror. A report by someone using CM11 and some custom rom reported mirroring working fine on Nook HD+ so its not a hardware issue. Does anyone have any thoughts ??
Thanks,
Al
In order for Chromecast app mirror to work, google play services must be installed into system partition. Your android most likely does not have it.
Our Chromecast sender app does not use Google play services, so it should work, please visit this thread later for the apk.
Hey,
I can also confirm that unfortunately on Nook HD+ on CM12.1 mirrorenabler doesn't work, nevertheless on cm11 latest built mirror enabler works great. But still both CM11 and CM12.1 for me are unstable, actually cm12.1 is worst for me getting a lot of download and apps installation slow down, on cm11 I get a lot of keyboard droppings when typing in the browser but gennerally the experience is a lot better.
So would love to test on stock (4.0.4) your app apparently with root.
Thanks

My CM12.1 on Nook HD+ is not as good as 5.01 that I previously had. If you get Trickster Mod ( to increase responsivness ) and increase read ahead buffer 768 and get Glove Xperia ( to adjust screen sensitivity if needed ) you might like CM12.1 better
