Camera focus in short distances - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm a former iPhone 5 user who just switched to a 2014 Moto X. I've been having troubles focusing on short-distance text with both the stock Camera app and the Google one. I've tried the very same shot with an ancient iPhone 4 and found no trouble whatsoever. (using autofocus).
What can I do to address it? Should I replace the camera app? Thanks!

Have you tried tapping to focus? Does the camera readjust after tapping the text ?

Instagram For Android, and the Front Camera Problems

Just by a show of users Id like to know whether or not those who have installed Instagram's newest update on the HTC VIVID still have issues with front cam pics, when taken they come out like how a broken NES cartridge used to look on your TV. Im looking to see if anyone has experienced the same exact probs so I can narrow down whether its my phone or the app.
Probably the app since were not the only users with front facing camera problems.

Not sure exactly what you mean, but my FFC has always been VERY fuzzy.

The FFC is a lower quality cmos camera, so the fuzziness will always be there. however it is known with devices using ICS the FFC fails to preview pics using the default instagram camera. Ive been emailing tech support and I was told the issue will be resolved soon.
If you disable the "advanced instagram camera" and use the phones default camera, all is well.
At present all photos taken with the FFC using the Instagram camera fail to show a preview, if not, garbles NES like designs...too bad there isnt a cartidge slot to blow compressed air into lol
lol and I understand l, but on my previous android, I had a VGA front camera and it seemed more detailed and less fuzzy than this FFC.

I'm having the same problem I get some off pixilation at the bottom when I preview the picture

At least u get an image on the ffc?
My guess: it's the app.

It MUST be the App.. I see it on my new HTC One X LTE.
Update, as per the most recent instagram release on google play, all problems are fixed. No need to install optional updated gl drivers, although the app works without them now

How do you get to camera settings - the other settings?

Was at a Verizon store yesterday played with the X, very nice device, one thing I couldn't locate/figure out, nor could the rep....
how do you change pic/video mp size before taking the pic/video?
Are all the pics taken in 10mp size (or a different default size), or can that be adjusted?
If so, where can Those settings be found?
The standard settings section had the basics, HDR, flash, Geo, tap to focus, slo mo, gesture etc. I just couldn't locate where to change the size of pics and video.
(Btw the X's they had at store were not on kit kat, so I know camera wasn't on latest firmware)
Anyone know?

The settings you found in the app are the only settings there are. They REALLY dumbed down the camera app. I hate how little you can control on it.
I'm coming from a 2.5+ year HTC Thunderbolt, and the Moto X is a real neat device.
But I think it's the only phone I know of that you can't preset the size pic/video you'd like.
Kind of strange, considering past dumb phones I had could do this.
Taking pics and video in the highest mp will definitely fill up the phone's memory fast.
Maybe future firmware will allow this, who knows.

I was a little peeved when I found out the picture/video size couldn't be adjusted. I told myself I didn't need all that crap from the S3 so I got the MotoX and then turned out that one small thing would drive me nuts.
Just go find an app in the market. Camera+ is one

That may be a possible solution... but this seems an absolutely silly omission from the stock camera app (especially the video).

Problem is, will 3rd party camera app launch with wrist flick, plus the tap to take pic and keep finger down for multiple is nice, as well as taking pics while recording a video, I don't think these features will work with a 3rp party app.
Motorola X exterior is customizable, they built a whole website for that customizable part, can even add a name to boot, but customize a photo before taking it, oh boy.
And I completely understand they wanted to create a phone that just works for the average Joe, but at the least they could have had maybe a 5mp and 2mp preset under the default 10mp. They can still keep white balance etc.
Plus I think camera would be even faster taking 2mp pics (not that it has to be).
Like mentioned, maybe they'll pick up on this and change in future firmware (which is at least possible to do).

Contact Photos

Anybody having their contact photos show up really low res? Usually after an initial sync the contacts return to high quality, but they are staying low for me.
I can manually update the contact again and it looks fine. So its not pulling something right from Google.
I have that same experience since the nexus 4 KitKat upgrade...Nexus 5 same. This Nexus 6 same...I manually update as a go to get high quality images.
Sorry I'm not providing a fix, but can confirm the same experience.

[Google Camera] Issue with Panorama & Photo Sphere

I am trying to use the Photo Sphere and Panorama options within the Google Camera.
But on my HTC One M7, these photo modes are very blurry and do not autofocus properly.
This does not happen on normal Photo mode or on Lens Blur, because you can manually focus.
Also, on the HTC Camera, everything is working properly.
So, is this an issue that I am having with my phone, is it an issue that the HTC One (as a device has), or is it an issue with the Google Camera app?
I can add screenshots if needed.
No one has this issue?

I have the same issue in my mobile (bq E5 4G). All features in google camera are OK, except photospheres. They are blurred or unfocused.

Are you using moto camera, or another app?

I've been using the stock camera app, but have wondered if I'm missing something better.. I'm not a serious or good photographer by any means. Mainly looking for something simple, that allows save to SD that will take good pictures

I use the Moto camera app that was stock on the phone. 2 reasons, first, if I want to take great pictures I use my dslr not a phone. Second, I love the twist of the wrist to start it. Usually if I am using my phone to photograph it is because a quick something is happening or about to happen and I can twist my wrist as I bring it up to my face level and the camera app is open and ready to use. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly, I have the same feelings about moto camera. Also you can record video very quickly (no need to change mode like in other apps). Slow motion video is quite fun too. The only thing that I hate is that it doesn't have built in gallery like for example google cam which leads to delays and bugs.
I'm using HTC Camera and it works well.
Snapdragon camera, which I'm really liking.
I'm using Moto camera but the newer version (camera1) ported from Moto G which adds in a better UI and some manual controls
For pics I use the Google Camera with the HDR+ enabled, it takes great shots when there's a lot of light, Moto camera it's ok, but I rather use Google's. I'm also using Footej (haven't used it that much but so far so good!).
Since I'm rooted I have Xposed, whith the Twisty module I can enable the wrist twist to open any of the cameras I want as default.
For my use of a camera and I have tried many, I really like Open Camera from the Play Store. It offers some of the best options and features without getting all gimmicky.
Using two camera apps, Camera1 from the play store (Motorola's New Camera) for taking pictures and Open Camera for video recording
I have been using "DSLR Camera" from the store for about the last two years. Does everything I want with no fuss.

But don't think it would suit as a system app because there are way to many features
I prefer SnapDragon Camera. I believe you must have a caf kernel in order for it to work correctly.
