Hi everybody, I recently unlocked bootloader without backing up ta partition. Obviously I lost x-reality, Bionz, etc... What I'm wondering though is: is anyone working on this? (yeah, I know, should have backed up that damn partition), but hell, why isn't anyone thinking on how to get this kind of stuff back on devices which lost their drm keys? I'd spend time on this myself, but I know little about this and have really no time...

you could say the same for the rest of us.
I think that is imposible to do. I think there is a reason why there is a way to "backup" and not to "create" them,

You're probably right, still I bet if I gave my phone back to sony they'd know how to revert everything to STOCK. I mean, "when I got my phone" stock, so why can't we? (I know it's noob question, but I'm wondering this kind of stuff recently)
once they are gone, they are gone for good, there's no way around it
That says one guy from sony tehnical support.

im not entirely sure that development even started for the focus s
which is a shame as its a beast of a device, ive asked questions to the gods that be on XDA dev to see if they could even point us In the right direction to playing with this amazing device, unfortunately they have all ignored me.
So I believe as it stands, they don't want to do anything with it as its got a very small user base, and they dnt want to help us so we can do it either.
but still, least its interop unlocked and unlock tools works with it!
This makes me deeply sad inside. It is a sensation like the one you feel when seeing a perfectly good cake being thrown in the garbage.

tell me about it!
I know everyone is very busy, so I made it clear I wasn't asking for them to do anything but point us in the right direction to see what can be achieved, I get the feeling what ever it is that they do is some closely guarded secrete that us lesser mortals are not supposed to know.
Glad I'm not alone

I am to scared to do the Samsung Update in fear of losing my unlock access. I guess I will be going to the Nokia 920 because I think the user base will be large. This device has been solid for me besides the speaker his when I take a picture.
If the device is fully functional, an you make a backup, applying the Samsung update is fine, but make sure you re apply the relock prevent app, id also strongly suggest you try to restore a backup image as well just to make sure it works!. So make a backup, copy it to a safe location, install some app, then restore your backup, the app you installed should be gone!if that works double check your still interop unlocked, apply Samsung update, DO NOT lose your previous backup an do not apply any OS updates to your phone with out first restoring to your backup! IE remove the Samsung update first!

Can someone tell me what good does the Samsung update do to the phone? I just want to know if it's worth the trouble.

you can open it up and take a look for your self, to be honest, there is only a couple of noticeable reasons for doing so, the biggie is the keyboard lag issues, there is also an increase in audio volume. looking at the files, it also updates the ROM its self, so hard resets will give you tango rather than Mango
(NOTE_resettng is a really bad idea, if you reset your device, you probably wont be able to restore from a backup and you may end up stuck with it being locked!)
drivers and some apps receive updates.
To be honest, i wouldn't bother, unless the keyboard lag issue is too much for you ( kinda fixable if you turn off keyboard sounds) or the audio is too low an the popping drives you mad, the whole thing feels better but its marginal at best.

Hi,
your answer is here!. Seems to be a hardware short circuit.
maybe putting your open device close to a warm source to dry it will give you 15.031969% to save it...
Else, I fear you need Samsung service..
I don't mean to be rude but why did you open a thread here on XDA about this?
This site is for mobile phone/tablet development.
You have bought a faulty device, it happens.
You need to take it back for a replacement, simple.
I hope you get it sorted! It's never nice buying something and it not working properly.

i believe it got something to do with calibration or something related to software
as phone was flashed earlier and it might be something to do with flashing
i was thinking of writing NV calibration data from another phone to see if that may help, but thought of getting more ideas first.
WBR
Oh right, fair enough then. I thought it was brand new and you'd just taken it out of the box.

as good as new, only a few days used, sending it back would be costly
so i thought to get some ideas if it could be calibration data or something, as i have already flashed it but it didn't yield any result..
i really wanted to unlock my bootloader for my z... anyway possible... i love the phone... absolutely LOVE the feel of this thing.... its just i MISS aosp... and I NEEEED IT! i mean im rooted 4.2.2 but i cannot BELIEVE no one has been able to unlock this thing.... ive seen devs do it to get s-off on htc phones in past... there has GOT to be a way to get the job done... i dont mind shipping my phone to someone to do it... but ****.. i dont want to get rid of it. but i might have to go back to my crappy s4 that EVERYONE has... i hate that damn phone. i hate the stupid shape. i hate samsungs ui. i hate the crappy plastic... i hate that stupid button. even tho i can run google edition firmware on it... i LOVE the z... its unique... and its very well designed... seriously.... anything at all... plz dont be negative... i know the answer im just hoping someone somewhere has done it and will speak up....
Sell your device and buy an unlockable version if you really want to have the bootloader unlocked. That's your only option.

So you're on the T-Mobile version of the Z and are rooted and on 4.2.2? Please show me some links on how to go about getting my phone like yours because everywhere I look on XDA all have instructions on the international version. By the way do you still have the ability to use wifi calling?

Has anyone unlocked their bootloader and when you take a photo with pretty much any camera app outside of snapchat. The photos are just solid green?
Sadly didn't understand this whole DRM key thing til after the fact.
Also has anyone been able to relock their bootloader, keeps failing for me. I'd really like to use android pay.
thanks
Have you thought of going down the AOSP road?
Might fix the camera.

Yea that's what I originally did, but certain things don't work. Like the front facing camera and fingerprint reader, and it's just not very stable.
I'm afraid u just thrown 600 bucks my friend... Nobody dares to unlock bootloader because the drm keys yet, everybody knows that... I don't think u will ever be able to restore your drm keys, since u didn't back them up... But I'll be happy to be wrong
The original DRM keys will not be recoverable, ever, but there's still hope to restore DRM reliant features via hacks like this or this. EDIT: Never mind the second link
Since @Meow_ has already unlocked the bootloader, maybe you can experiment with things a bit, see what works, maybe even do your own development if you're up to it. Good luck!
Almost all of the other Sony phones I've seen eventually get root and roms with built-in DRM functionality. Just wait a while.

Hi Meow_,
You might want to check in with sToRm in this thread.
He has a DRM patch solution for the XZ Premium and wants to test it against an XZ1/XZ1c.
Oh sweet thanks
So clearly this is still very early days given the phone is barely released yet but this is my first Sony Xperia device and just wanna check if the following will be possible when I receive it...
1) use this website to unlock the bootloader https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/unlock-bootloader/
2) extract the boot img
3) patch the boot img with magisk and flash
Thanks in advance
Ah just found this site too
https://www.ytechb.com/how-to-root-sony-xperia-1-ii-and-unlock-bootloader/
Will be great to root and get xposed + gravitybox!
Be carefull, unlocking bootloader gave in the past lesser features for the camera.

Thanks for the heads up, that's interesting and a little concerning! Hmm I guess we'll see how it goes...
Hmm seems perhaps losing such functionality could be avoided...
The link is not posting for some reason but Google "How to Backup and Restore Sony Xperia Z+ DRM Keys and Keep DRM Functionality after Root", perhaps this method could work
I've emailed Sony via the developers website whether unlocking the bootloader will result in losing camera features. Will post back here if/when they reply.
It'd be great to know, as if I get my device next Thurs I would love to get it rooted for substratum theming, ad blocking, edxposed etc
Here is Sony's response. Seems its gonna take a brave person to try this out! I think I'll likely just enjoy the device stock for a short while to get a feel for it and then see if unlocking is gonna be an option, as I wouldn't want to lose features but also I don't want a rootless android....
Perhaps the backup TA partition option (and the DRM keys) is the answer, but I don't know enough....
Not worth it in my opinion but to each his/her own.

Agreed, certainly at this point...
One of the best things about the phone will be these features, but I must admit if I can't root it I'll be a little disappointed.

This is great! Has there been any detrimental effect at all? I mean obviously unlocking can pose some risks but indeed so long as nothing breaks or I won't lose any of the great capabilities I'm buying this phone for, then I'll likely just root soon after receiving it ?
Here is a thought, why not first try the phone in stock ?
I mean i was all for unlocking in the past, hell i even created custom roms.
But that was the time that we could actually add new features to the phone.

Oh definitely, that'll be what I'll do initially. I'll spend a day or 2 (patience permitting) just completely out of the box fresh and untouched, the way its intended to get that feel for the device. It'll be my first Sony so I wanna see how it runs. Curious also if the advertised motion blur reduction runs well, in comparison to the 90hz I'm used to. I wanna see how the battery life holds up to my usage and I definitely wanna get used to the pro mode camera etc.
Then, I'll enjoy rooting (which by then perhaps others are posting their experiences too) for all the benefits that brings. Plus then there's custom rom support in the works too.
Oh I just love that new device feeling!

Only detrimental effect to the camera for the Xperia 1 was letting Sony write the software for it.
You'd lose the DRM keys so you'll lose the video enhancement, sound enhancement, widevine keys for watching stuff in HD and above in certain apps like Netflix.
Unlocking isn't really worth it in my opinion when software is pretty much stock Android with the DRM stuff.

If I remember right it was the DSEE for upscaling audio to HD that was lost.
If you get the phone to focus on media then keep i'd keep it locked to be on the safe side. Let others unlock it first then see what they say.

There'll be some won't care about the Sony features as such and may proceed to unlock right away.
I'll enjoy the phone as-is for a few days and enjoy it as its meant to be enjoyed and in the meantime will see how others get on.
Cheers :good:

Apologies if this is a total newbie question, but do I have to unlock the bootloader to flash official firmware too? I'm getting the phone from O2 in the UK and wanted to flash EE or generic EU firmware to unlock WiFi calling.
