According to the danish lg site, under FAQ of the LG Optimus 2x, they say that it'll be out in june/july 2011. So that seems to be as official they have stated a release date yet
If that's real, than it's a real shame. 6 months to get GB working on their flagship device seems really lame and only shows LG inability to give the updates in a timely manner. In June Android 2.4 will be already launched.
Yeah this sucks ballzzzz
Yeah it seems to be true, but have only been posted (as far as I have checked) on the Scandinavian sites for Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
I also made this post about it (maybe in the wrong section) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034970
EDIT: With a picture btw.
This means Cyanogenmod is again overtaking the manufacturer

this is in line with LG italy "our scope is to provide the update in the first half of this year"
edit:
i've just finished a livechat with italian LG support.
they have no info on gingerbread update.
Im glad there are alot of custom roms. LG fails again. superhardware lack of support

oh my goodness when is the cyanogen gingerbread update .........
hehe who cares? I only care about CM7
The problem is there are a lot of fixes needed even within the LG Android 2.2.2, it's not all about providing GB. The stock LG software is subpar in my oppinion and the problems signaled here and on other forums needs to be addressed by LG hopefully before June.
[email protected], CM7 would be nice but for O2X is in a far from usable state.
If LG launch the 2.3 with the know how demonstrated on 2.2... I don't see how this is a good news...
CM7 is all that mater
maybe LG is waiting for cm7, and get the idea from it
I absolutely agree with the statement "Who cares, I just want CM7".
Then again, LG having the low-level dev access that they have (drivers and whatnot), isn't much easier for them to dev the update than for us to dev CM7? Moreover, wouldn't it be much easier to port CM7 if we had an LG 2.3 ROM?
Cheers.
Shame I switched from Samsung after month of **** firmwares and now the same on lg - now I really consider apple - they know hot to build a kernel to use the hardware
google and android is as it seems incapable of delivereing a kernel for single or dual core
the always bring out new phones and none run well
the lg drives me crazy for 2 weeks - its more lame than my nexus one

I kind of like LG for the speed, is much faster than the Galaxy S no matter what kernel you had on it, but O2X has other problems like the poor audio quality in calls and still the software doesn't feel like it's the final version, more like a test one. I agree we should expect more because the super fast hardware is there. It's a reality manufacturers don't care about that, they act like sell only the hardware and after that, they wash their hands. At least Samsung continue to support the Galaxy S which will have GB within weeks and in the meantime we have to wait until summer to get our port on O2X. I would never buy Apple, they sell just boring super expensive and locked products, that are still owned by them even after they sell them to you. If you want Android without headaches, the best bet is on the Nexus Phones. But, in the end, you can't have everything I guess...
Wow, that was long... what are we talking about here?
Sounds like the email I recived from LG Sweden this monday which said their devs had started to work on 2.3...... but what...started? Hasn't 2.3 been out for a while??

Try the Nexus S, being just a single core hummingbird processor, the thing flies
LG Optimus 2x have the potential to be faster then the Nexus S, all you need is just to wait until more developers use the phone
Dear Omni ROM team,
ever since waiting for my upgrade to Android 4.0.4 on my LG Optimus 3D, I was wondering, how the community would treat such devices in the near future.
Why is a 2011 smartphone already considered "old" and why not ? The Optimus 3D is no exception here and I hope I can start a discussion about this matter here.
On my Optimus 3D I can run (nearly) any app, without problems, without frameloss. I can take photos in a good quality, I can listen to mp3s, use it as flashlight, I can use youtube, facebook or use it as a navigation system. It tells me about the weather, I can recieve emails and sms and in the end I can use it as phone. Just like any other smartphone.
I have to admit, I dont have OctaCore, I dont have 4 GB of RAM and I cant use the android PS2 emulator above 12 fps. But that is okay to me. Maybe adding a lighter to smartphones would be a good idea. Or a knife, or a screwdriver...
Im not one of those "Hey, I got the newest Android Custom ROM on my device, how about you ?" guys. But for sure I dont want to be the last guy on earth using 4.0.4. Also, I wont buy a new device, just to have a newer android running.
For example, I maybe think of the day that I want to download an app and it will throw out an error ala "You need Android 4.4 to run this", while I know, that my device is still able to run that app / still powerfull enough to run that app.
I just recieved a LG G2 from my provider today and already decided to sell it on eBay. It wont recieve Android 4.3 and probably around march 2014, LG might introduce Android 4.4 for it. Might...sounds just like the story of the Optimus 3D to me. Sounds just like the story of most other smartphone brands out there.
Google claims, KitKat "was made" for devices with 512 MB RAM. Hey, I DO have that ! :highfive:
So why cant I use it ? :crying:
I know, it will never come. Neither from LG, nor from Cyanogen. Maybe as OmniROM ? I dont think so.
But why is that ? Is it "just" the huge variety of different smartphone models that makes development teams concentrate on the "newer" ones only ?
Are there just too many different smartphones around...too many to cover them all with custom roms ?
Why even include a function like OTA into smartphones, if a smartphone is already considered "old" after 1 year and beeing forgotten ?
It happened on the notebook/netbook/laptop market already. 10+ year old devices running on WIndows 7. Linux, Mac OSX and even Android (x86) made it into the PC sector.
Even the HTC Dream has a higher Andorid version then mine now. And it (nearly) works perfect.
I can see Optimus 3D development coming to a stop soon on xda. I try to understand why, but it is not easy.
What are your thoughts ?
•Lack of proper documentation .. (similar to galaxy nexus)
•Lack of a dedicated device maintainer(must for omni rom )
• that time developers now shifted to newer devices
• optimus3d was never a flagship ..hence never got any real attention..
•too heavy
•dedicated device owners who got lg g2 decided to sell g2 instead of o3d

I was reading in news about LG's new low end phone L40 which is going to be launched with kitkat version of android . Here is spec of L40 phone
the L40 has a 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor a smaller screen at 3.5-inches. It also has 4GB of internal storage, but RAM is lesser than the other two(L series phone) at 512 MB. The camera is only a 3-megapixel unit, while the battery size will vary according to markets. The two battery sizes are 1,700mAh and 1,540mAh.
And they are neglecting our P990 which has similar specifications. They should have upgraded our phone first to kitkat which was their flagship phone first. They can not say it doesn't have hardware to support it becoz they themselves are releasing kitkat on same hardware.
BTW wats the point of releasing L40 when they had already release same spec phone few years back ?

Would you buy it? I mean, seriously dude, it's about selling. They are going to make a few millions on that L40 just because it's brand new, has kitkat and has a screen size like older iPhones. If they would update the "unupdateable" Tegra2 powered, 2-3 years old 2X, then everyone would go around buying second-hand, used 2Xs for 40$ on eBay, instead of going for their new phone.
I'd rather say Google cheated everyone, because Android updates life cycle is too short. There is a bunch of "old" phones with very capable hardware to run KitKat 4.4 and phone manufacturers won't ever update them because they just don't have any legal obligation to do so, we only have to hope their "goodwill" to release drive sources, which isn't the case for our 2x since nVidia and LG don't give a %#@!.
It's kinda sad me to see how a very capable phone gets obsolete by force due the lack of system updates, and I'm not talking only about our O2x.
This also raises other important topic, such as about electronic waste, people are wasting their 2 year phone because they are stuck in Gingerbread limbo.

+1, i think the best manufacturer were we can go is sony?? :noidea:
as i can see today sony is the only manufacturer that providing at least the sources for old phones?
I think it's worse that they wont give out all the code needed to optimize and improve the Tegra2 cores for O2X than updating it themselves.
(since they obviously aren't very good at it)

That L40 is dumb but no doubt like the L3 it will be a great kids phone.
But our P990 will not get love from LG mine is 2 years old now and it was the last of them to be seen here in New Zealand, most people will break or loose the phone by now why develop for such a small audeince, dont forget our phone only have about 384mb of ram and they do not support NEON instuction either it was meant to be over at 4.2 but TonyP and pengus got us a bit further.
Even if you look at the specs i dont think the L90 would be a good replacement for the P990 mainly because of the price im guessing it will be more than the Nexus 5 which cost now the same amount as the P990 cost me two years ago.
The only thing I guess which create prob in devlopment of official kk is tegra 2.
I do have a 4x and lg has stated that 4x wont get any any further update cause it has tegra 3 and is stuck at jellybean forever!
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk 2
nvidia drivers are closed source and they do not update the drivers any more - and the tegra2 does not even support neon-instructions - thats why LG stopped developing
and because the phone now really is too old - i mean, a 3 year old smartphone is already a dinosaur, what other company still develops updates for such old phones?
my next phone will definitely have NO nvidia chip in it, and will be manufactured by sony because of their full open source approach.

In a nutshell, LG + nVIDIA = terrible mistake, total disaster for android.
This is probably the worst combination in android world. LG for its extremely slow system updates schedules and nVIDIA for dropping the support for past SoCs too soon and won't even bother releasing proper documentation or blobs for futher development.

well the annoying thing is that they both are the best companies. LG and nVidia did the gratest things, LG invented the first dual-core phone (our O2X) and the first 4K TV, nvidia invented first 3D Vision on PC's and so on..... They are grate companies but when it comes to who gives less f***ks LG and nVidia are the first  and they are terrible at software developing. :crying:
Agreed, I have owned my last nvvidia phone.

The only direct responsible for this situation is nVidia. Those who were in active in this forum the last couple of years know perfectly well how it all went down and, even though it was LG the one who should push updates for the o2x, its always been nVidia that obstructed development efforts due to its notorious closed-source policy. In the end of the day, its perfectly understandable for a company to stop supporting a 3-year old device, considering the silly pace in which mobile tech evolves. Keep in mind that the o2x hasnt been the worst of examples in this area. Even though it still holds the record for longest update holdout (16 months to go from Android 2.2 to 2.3 - even mentioned in Wikipedia) it has seen 2 major OS updates: 2.2 to 2.3 to 4.0. Direct competition doesn't differ too much in this sense (SGS 2.3 to 4.0.4 to 4.1, HTC Thunderbolt 2.2 to 2.3 to 4.0) with some 'flagships' that year seeing much less (see Droid Bionic). We should really be grateful that some amazing devs happened to join this forum and dedicated lots of time and knowledge to maintain this phone and get it where it is right now. It's been some time that i dont use my o2x (passed it on to my gf - still runs great) and moved to an iP4s due to Google's frustrating incapability to write a decent low latency audio API (Apple is the undisputed king there). So even though im not planning to move back to Android before this embarrassing situation is resolved, Im absolutely convinced that ill never, ever buy an nVidia powered phone again, no matter what they come up with. So yes, once more: nVidia, F**k You!
oh no
Not only lg even htc ndivia powered device such htc one x didnt get kitkat update, they have twice power engine than o2x. I think owner of htc one x cry louder than us thanx to nvidia :crying:
This isn't the first time that LG cheats his users.
Just remember the Optimus 3D updates...

Linus Torvals complained about Nvidia because of the lack of their support for Linux and Android. I think it was a good opinion that he said what he thinks about that company. For computers, AMD and ATI have a great support for Linux, which is really nice. Too bad I noticed too late what a fault it was to buy an Nvidia pc, too.

Does that mean that you'll get a lot of more or less bug free custom ROMs for them? I'm looking forward to buy a phone which will have better custom ROM support in the future without all those nasty bugs which are related to closed source drivers and hidden hardware information like with this phine (camera bug in 4.4, bluetooth call bugs, gps fix problems caused by software). I am really tired because of all that. I never found any very smooth ROM without all those problems.

I've been holding off putting a third party ROM on my TF701T as Asus had been good about updating other tablets. It doesn't surprise me as we are approaching 2 years. ASUS don't really release updates beyond 18 months. All their latest transformers seem to be using Intel chips for Android as well.

My reasons to doubt it is. LG never released 4.4.0 because they said they want android to become stable first. They jumped to 4.4.2 and marketed new devices.
Next, LG is the slowest to update. Remember kitkat for G2 ?
Maybe by May next year they will release new phones (5.1) and market those?

Cmon LG, got a tablet and a smartphone from you, don't let me down!
I sure hope we'll get the newest version. Though I wonder how well will it run on this device and how much internal memory will it require. But I'm not getting my hopes up. Somewhat of a realistic/optimistic opinion towards this matter.

It's not, I saw a page about upgrading L90 to 5.0. Doesn't look legit though and I'm too lazy to dig for some info about it
Edit. Yeah, I've just noticed a tutorial on how to pass the survey in order to download this rom on that site which means it may be everything except 5.0 for L90
Actually, I have some doubts about the update. The recent LG announcement that they will bring the LG G3 UI & UX to their low and mid-end devices is what makes me doubt. I mean, why do that if they're presumably working on an Android update for the L90. Of course, if it doesn't take much time or resources, I don't mind.
L90 hardware is somewhat similar to the moto g. So it is possible. Lg has really changed with their latest releases, so it gives me hope that it will get 5.0
L90 would definitely be getting android lollipop, informed by someone really reliable.
