Pure Edition = Same exact features? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will the Pure Edition have the same exact features and software as the AT&T version? I'm on TMobile and want to get this phone now but only if it has the same features. Thanks.

Yes it will, the only difference is you will not have the added bloatware and you will be able to unlock the bootloader without voiding your warranty. No reason to get AT&T version unless you are looking to go on contract.

It's lacks a few features, like:
AT&T Address Book, AT&T Live, AT&T Locker, AT&T Mail, AT&T Navigator, AT&T Ready2Go, Caller Name ID, sim and bootloader locked and 2 years contact.

Nope, it's bootloader locked unless someone can figure or how to unlock it which isn't easy (I know work is under way for the original X ATT). You can disable them but not removed. Also with the original X I could not disable ATT address book and it's extremely annoying since it pops up each time you open the People app, except it delays a few seconds before popping up.
There is just zero reasons to get the ATT version, even if you have upgrade subsidy it's better to pay full price for the unlocked.

The only reason I can think of to get a carrier branded version is the Wifi Calling.

I hope the TMO version comes with WiFi calling!

Based on T-mos current policy, it will NOT support their wifi calling. It is a BYOD phone, and none are supported. Not a good policy, but the case as it stands.

Unlocked Moto X question

I am in the market to get either the nexus 5 or moto x. Finally switching off of Verizon and thinking of going to AT&T.
I want to MotoMake my own Moto with the unlocked (T Mobile) option, if i do so, is there bloatware or carrier logo?
And if no, then my next question would be if I used it on AT&T, do I lose LTE? I was told mixed things, that I would and I may not have AT&T 4G LTE.
Because then I may just get the Nexus 5.

You don't lose LTE. You may have to call up AT&T to make sure AT&T lists it as a LTE device, as a few people here have done.

So !y last question would be updating/rooting. So would I get a upgrade close to the date of when Motorola releases it? Or when AT&T approves it, even though its carrier unlocked?
And would the bootloader come unlocked?

Which upgrade are you taking about? If you mean the 4.4 KitKat, then you'll probably see it soon after you turn on the phone unless it ships with it already. Any subsequent updates you should see soon after T-Mobile releases it no matter the carrier.
If you're talking the two year upgrade for a new phone, then it's two years from the date you sign the contact. Although that doesn't matter if you're buying your device outright.
For the last question, the only devices that have a safely unlockable bootloader are the dev devices, not the MotoMaker ones. You can unlock the bootloader on the T-Mobile phone, but in doing so you will void your warranty. Unlocking the bootloader on Dev device will not void the warranty

Edit: clarifying my train of thought after just waking up.

Can't get straight answers!....HELP if you please
I've been doing research and making a lot of calls to both AT&T and to motorola regarding the GSM unlocked(Tmo) version of the MOTO X on the ATT network. Specifically, I have asked ATT about the 850 Mhz LTE band (which is not supported on the GCM unlocked X) and how, If at all, would my service be affected by the lack of this freq. NO one at ATT seems to know anything. I asked moto(numerous times) before I ordered and was told it's the "same phone" or that it "will work". No one seems to be able to tell me specifically if not having this band will adversely effect my ability to get service as I travel the country(US). The phone arrives wed and I'll post again with the results. After I update the APN settings(if needed) we'll see what happens. The only reason I opted for the GSM unlocked version is to be able to use PDA NET + to tether and use another carrier if I desire. (grandfathered unlimited data).
Another question:
Will I need to root the phone to use PDA net, or can u I just use native tethering on the GSM unlocked on the ATT network. ?? Thanks in advance.

No, you have to get an unlock code from Motorola and it voids your warranty.
Why not just get the GSM Dev Ed and keep your warranty after you unlock it?
I bought the Dev edition and inside there's this piece of paper that says that after requesting the unlock code, it'll void the warranty, weird

AFAIK, the 850MHz band is only used for 2G/3G, which is usable by the unlocked X. From my research, I don't see anyone with any plans to use LTE on that frequency.
Short answer: If AT&T or one of their roaming partners has service, you should be fine.

You would not be able to use native tethering unless you pay for the tethering service to the best of my knowledge.
From what I remember of PDA.net from years ago was that it did not need root to function.

That was/is the original stance by Motorola. They got a bit of backlash and reversed the decision for the Dev devices only.

Unlocked S5?

So, I am wanting to get the S5, but I am tired of all the AT7T bloatware that comes on these phones. Plus, being in the military, prefer unlocked phones. So, what are my choices here. Where can I get an unlocked S5 that will fully work on the AT7T network?

The closest you could get is a TMO branded S5 which ships BL Unlocked (at least initial shipments) a few bands may not work though depending on the TMO radio. Also you would need to sim unlock the TMO S5 and buy it outright which I believe is 660.

The expectation is that all American models are region-locked as well. Here is an example of a N. America model with the region-lock warning on it: http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s5-region-lock-367402/

Yes. I bought my nexus 6 from Moto's website and popped my SIM in and it works perfectly. Don't know what your experience might be if you had to take it to the store to activate.

Your subject line indicates that yours is an AT&T N6. It is carrier locked to AT&T. You will have to get an unlock code, either directly from AT&T or from a third party. Can only be unlocked if you bought it outright, without subsidy. Do a Google search, there are plenty of articles on how to do this.

Yes. But you'll have to get a SIM card from an already activated phone. You won't be able to just walk into a VZW store. The IMEI number won't show up on their list. Go over in General section, there's a thread that explains how this works.

I have N6 on Verizon
When from Retail Rooted Note 3 to N6. They had to dummy a phone on my line that required a nano to get the nano then removed the phone but left thet nano activated. I then popped nano in N6 and good to go. Only downside you CAN NOT use data the same time as making a call. Everything else works great. Extended network, 3G...etc

As far as I know, activation on Sprint should be as easy as getting their Sim card and putting it in. Once the device is freed from the AT&T lock of course.
Read this post and the next few after. Sprint may even have this sorted out by now too.

Verizon bought Nexus on different carrier?

Hi,
From what i've seen it sounds like Verizon no longer locks their LTE phones. So am I correct in believing that if I got a nexus 6 through verizon, I would be able to just plug in a t-mobile SIM and use it without issue?
Would wiping completely and flashing all the stock google images remove any verizon bloat/bootscreen?
THanks

My GF had a verizon upgrade she didn't care to use. So figured it would be nice to pay $350 vs $650. First time i've bought a phone off a carrier in like 4 years. Can't believe they charged a $40 upgrade fee. Tmobile FTW!

Yeah, I know from my ATT days. However as far as I can tell, I believe Verizon doesn't follow this tactic.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/aboutus/commitment/safety-security/device-unlocking-policy.html
Device Unlocking Policy
Postpay Device Unlocking Policy:
We do not lock most phones or tablets that are activated with our postpay service, either during or after the term of your service contract or Edge installment sales agreement.
We do not lock our 4G LTE devices, and no code is needed to program them for use with another carrier.

Be careful about this assumption. The Droid Turbo boot loader is still locked an there is no root, while the Droid Moto Maxx (International Turbo version is unlocked) . Most verizon phones can go from Carrier to carrier if they are a global phone so from that perspective they are not locked and can be used on other carriers but it doesn't guarantee the boot loader is unlocked and root is available.

Note 8 unlocked

If I buy the unlocked version from Samsung will I be able to use it on ATT and Verizon networks? Will there be a limitations on what LTE bands that the phone can use? Just trying to avoid the bloatware that carriers have on their phones. I have both before mentioned carriers. I really want the note 8 but if I can't use the unlocked version to its full potential. Then I guess I. Will go with the Verizon version. I have been waiting since they took back my note 7 and now I can hardly wait to fill the void lol.

I recently chatted with a Verizon representative regarding this very question. I asked two key questions.
"Does an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 8 work on Verizon networks?"
Essentially the person told me they needed the phone to determine weather or not it would work on the Verizon network; either the MSIN or IMSI number. My belief is there is, most likely, a better answer elsewhere.
"Does Verizon restrict any features on unlocked phone?"
The Verizon representative told me they don't restrict any features for unlocked phones.
I know this still doesn't answer the question you have. Just know that I, and others, also have the same question(s).

I've also been told that you lose WiFi Calling with unlocked phones on Verizon's network as well. Can anyone confirm this? I know for a lot of people Wifi Calling doesn't matter much, but when cell service is spotty my LG V20 often switches over to WiFi for the duration of the call.
I don't think there are any other Verizon features I use other than WiFi Calling, and I'd hate to lose it. But I also hate all the Verizon bloatware.
Only lose wifi calling and any bloatware that the provider puts on them. That’s all. All the bands are there.

Click on Specifications, then look under Compatibility.
Does the unlocked note 8 come with a unlockable bootloader?
Be interesting if you could actually get wifi calling to work. I definetly need it as service is spotty in certain places of my house. Have Verizon but I'm paying outright regardless so it'd be the same price.
What about updates? I know for the unlocked S7, the updates were actually slower than the carrier branded, which is actually kinda crazy.

I jumped on the unlocked version; on T-Mobile. Now I'm wondering if I made the right decision.
I just pre-ordered the unlocked version through samsung's website. I will be using it with AT&T. I was going to order it through best buy but when i visited the samsung site they had the freebies ready to ship with the order as well.

Hi!
I'm thinking of doing same. Do you have exact model #? Also, when you say "unlocked" do you mean SIM unlocked or is it also "BOOTLOADER" unlocked, or both?
If you don't know, can you send link ?
TIA for your response.

I just preordered the unlocked version from Samsung.com as well. http://www.samsung.com/us/galaxy/note8/buy/ It was $960.00 for the Sprint version or $929.99 for Unlocked. I chatted online with customer service and they said the only difference with the Unlocked version was the lack of carrier apps (carrier bloat). Unlocked means Carrier/SIM Unlocked. Unless Samsung had a miraculous change of heart, the bootloader will be locked just like the Snapdragon Note 7, S7, & S8.

When I saw that the unlocked version worked on Verizon, I was surprised until I saw that the processor on the unlocked Note 8 is Qualcomm Snapdragon and not Exynos.
