Hello,
About 2 weeks ago, I flashed a new rom on my Xperia SP (XperianZe 4.4 ROM). First thing I noticed is that the screen was flickering, much like the old 4.3 firmware versions. And so I flash CM11 as an alternative (official build). But, CM11 got my screen flickering too...
Then I tried the stock firmware 12.1.A.1.205 with stock kernel. No flickering screen...
So what I noticed from all this is that when I flash other kernels, like DooMLoRD's kernel or the stock CM11 kernel, the screen starts flickering.
What I tried:
-Reflashing both ROMS and kernels twice.
-Factory reset.
-Disabling hardware acceleration through developer options (which worked for most of the people with this problem, but on stock firmwares..)
-Disabling hardware acceleration through scripts and other flashable zip files.
-Other developer options such as GPU rendering on/off.
Please help...I really want to switch to a KitKat ROM, as Sony has unfortunately decided not to release 4.4 for our SP
Thanks in advance

List of common issues (and solutions) for ICS stock ROMs
I see the same questions again and again... so a FAQ is in order
This is mostly targeting the P7300 & P7310 ICS ROMs that are just getting out now. These devices are very similar to the P7500 and P7510 (10.1 tabs), and all these tabs (8.9, 10.1) tend to share the same common issues.
without further ado...
1. "screen" flickering / garbled / messed up when resuming from standby.
solution: see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867124 (summary: flash P7310UELA3 ROM via Odin, then flash your ICS ROM)
2. System freezes mysteriously, needs a forced reboot. (also: when an app force closes, the system freezes)
solution: see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843837
3. I flashed stock ICS via Odin, and now in recovery I can't flash any update.zip ("can't find /sdcard").
solution: flash another recovery via Odin. The stock ICS one can't find /sdcard. (unlike the stock HC recovery which did)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31196953#post31196953
4. How do I root after flashing ICS
Solution: If you flashed a stock ROM via Odin, then first see point 3 above to get another recovery installed, then flash any root .zip you can find (there's one in the link for point 3)
5. How do I kill the boot sound
remove or rename file /system/etc/PowerOn.ogg (you'll need root access, or you could do this via adb or via an fabricated update.zip thru recovery) - this is same as under Honeycomb
6. I don't have "universal search" (a.k.a. When I search with the google quick search box, I don't find contacts or applications).
Solution: Samsung has removed that feature in ROM for the USA region, but kept it in other ROMs. You can fix this easily, if you have a USA ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31043430#post31043430
7. I'm not seeing my WIFI router anymore
Solution: The ICS rom seems to contain a setting that prevents it from seeing wifi routers using channel 12-13 (2.4 GHz) or using 5 GHz. You have to edit /system/etc/wifi/nvram_net.txt (change "ccode=GB" to "ccode=ALL"). Credit: original + repost + repost + repost + repost for 8.9
8. Youtube HD video or netflix lags (is choppy), same for some local HD video.
No solution so far. (it helps to lower the quality, in youtube or netflix, but that's not what I'd call a solution).
9. Can I activate voice calling?
There are solutions floating around, for the ICS stock ROMs, and for a few others. See for instance tracid's Stock ICS P7300 ROM which has some add-on's linked in OP. For further reading, visit the voice calling MOD thread
10. Losing too much battery when idle / Deep sleep issues caused by USB Storage safe removal.
There's a possibility that your tab does not deep sleep (and loses extra battery power while idle) after attaching and removing a usb storage device. Workaround = Avoid using the "Safe Removal" option in the notifications. Read more
11. Losing too much battery when idle / Unknown reasons / l2_hsic wakelock / etc
There seem to be other "wakelocks" keeping the CPU from going into Deep Sleep (basically, powering off). The wakelock keeps the CPU at a higher speed, e.g. 216MHz, drawing more power, at least 2% per hour. There is more talk about this on the 10.1 forum than the 8.9 forum, but given the similarity of the devices and stock ICS ROMs, it probably the same issue. If you want to keep an eye on this, install BetterBatteryStats. The most cited wakelock is called "l2_hsic", and according to some occurs only on the 3g tabs if it is set to Flight Mode. (understanding of this issue is still limited and evolving) - link1 link2

noob question
I'd really like to know how to do a 'full wipe' of my device since some ROMs suggest it.
Flashed a rom, now my device looks pretty. nothing downloads and it's lost its usb connectivity. please advise?
issue 1
I have looking for this tread for two days, google not help much
Whet i install ICS the flashing display issue occure, and 10x to this tread, now i will try to install UELA3 first and i will post if it is work or not. Hope to work becouse i do like ICS on GT 7310 but im sick of restart the tablet evry 30min if i dont tuch it
What i have try (for issue 1) :
Install HC 3.2 again and enter in odin recovry mode for swipe cache and date, becouse on ics i cant see the recovry mode. Then install ics again and the problem is back. Maybe its some kernel problem becouse the problem can be seen and in odin???
Maybe if i install the the USA 3.1 or 3.2 is it possible to upgrade from kies??? Becouse if i change the rom i have spot that my tablet is connecting again to kies YEI
EDIT: After install UELA3 evrything is looking normal, my problem/issue1 is now fiewd and i can wake up my tablet after sleep
After 2 days im happy to find this thread and fix my problem
With the arrival of many new p7300 ROM's these questions are being raised again... So a little bump.
Note that at least the OpenAustria p7300 XXLQ6 ROM includes a bootloader, so issue number 1 can probably also be resolved with that ROM, instead of the old solution.
Fred isn't that nvram_net.txt?
Yes, I guess you are right. I first read about this in August in the gt 10.1 forum, and several posts mentioned nvram.txt, probably copying the mistake from each other. I'm updating the OP, but I'm waiting to access a laptop currently used by family member.
Sent from my GT-P7300 using xda app-developers app
I've flashed the OpenAustria ICS on my P7300 via Odin.
Is this a valid CWM Recovery which I also can flash for the P7300 or is there another link. This is the only one I found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30839339&postcount=52
Is there also the ICS stock recovery somewhere available?
Thanks!
Hello everybody,
I've spent the last 2 hours browsing the forum looking for appropriate answers. There seems to have a bunch of people with similar issues, butI haven't found any useful hint...
So my problem is that every few days my Galaxy Note freezes and then reboot sticking at the initial "Samsung GALAXY Note GT-N7000". I can however boot into recovery and restore the latest Nandroid backup. My phone correctly boots then (which seems to exclude any hardware cause btw)... until next time a few days later... It's not quite blocking as I have kinda workaround... But you may still imagine how convenient it is to restore the phone while waiting for important calls! I have also noticed that the date is reset to January, 1st 2000 when it occurs.
I am suspecting that some application upgrade screws the system up. But how could I identify which one? I have nearly 200 apps... uninstalling them one after another is no realistic option.
So my main question is: is there any way to log the events on the external SD in order to diagnose what was happening before the crash (and potentially caused it).
Of course if any of you had the exact same symptoms; I would also be glad to get any feedback from your experience.
In case it helps, here is my configuration:
- galaxy note N7000
- Firmware: N7000XXLT9_N7000XXLT3_N7000OXXLT3_HOME (Stock 4.1.2)
- Kernel: PhilZ-cwm6-XXLT9-ORA-5.11.2 (rooted)
Thanks in advance for any appropriate support,
Regards,
Didier
Myself and many others who have upgraded to sweet rom v11 have experienced the same issue. It comes with the latest philz kernel.
I have since changed to c.o.h hello world's latest kernel and am yet to experience the issue or a random reset (something that was a hourly occurrence after the upgrade. it's been stable for 3 hours now)

So, according to your statement, my problem would be related to the Kernel and would presumably be solved by loading a new Kernel.
Which one would be recommended to support the following features?
- ext4 partition for use with Link2SD
- init.d
- root and CWM (I guess all alternate Kernels do support it; but anyway...)
Thanks in advance for your help.
My Xperia SP has a problem: when running benchmark software, when updating multiple apps from the store and sometimes when running stock camera app, the screen turns reddish, slowly dims until it turns off, and the phone restarts, getting very hot in the process. From what I see it's not above 43 degrees, but I think that when it locks up the temperature monitor app also freezes so it doesen't exactly record the actual heat.
When the phone cools off, it's good to go, but until then it restarts all over if I try to use it.
I had this problem using Arch Xperia, CM 11, and a few other ROMS. Now I flashed stock 4.3 CE, using Flashtool, and I have the same problem.
The phone was bought second hand, so no warranty.
Can I do anything about it?
I saw this on my phone in the past but only way this happend to me was that:
1. I was on williamskernel (i dont know how it performes to another people but to me its quite unstable)
2. I was on alpha cm12 and that happened to me under load
btw on cm11 and stock for me ist perfectly stable, phone never crashed like that but when i play heavy games like portal then i have 45-55 degrees celsias .
If you have this problem on stock flashed by flashtool from PC i think that it may be a HW problem.
i had this problem in 4.3 .205 stock and other customs roms based on .205 kernel.
Now i am on .207 kernel with archxperia 1.0.5 and i havent experienced something like this.
Also im using undervolt to 1566 to avoid high temperature during gaming.
I think is your ftf , which one are u using?
I downloaded the ftf from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311964
Yesterday, when I posted my problem, I had 12.1.A.1.205_CE1 - JB 4.3
In the mean time, I decided to try 4.1.2 JB and flashed 12.0.A.2.254_CE .
This one seems to have worked fine in the last couple of hours. I tried to run as many apps as possible to determine it to restart, but it just warmed up a little and kept going. So it seems it's ok.
Also, I had an unlocked bootloader and before I flashed 4.1.2 I locked it back again. If that has anything to do with it.
The problem is that it askes for a system update and if I do it, it will probably take me all the way to 4.3, and maybe the same problems. That notification is so annoying
That sounds like a hardware problem. Is your phone in a case? Maybe it's restricting the airflow to the device.

download 4.3 using flashtool (devices/check updates) and try
Yes, it is in a case. But with 4.1.2. it doesen't seem to have problems anymore so I hope it's a software issue.

Will try this today. It should take me to 207, right? The phone OTA update service gives me an upgrade to 205, which I understand is problem-prone.
205 was alright, I think it was 201 that had problems. Still, it's probably best that you go for the latest firmware, which is 207.
Hello, i have the c6903 and a modded but official 5.01 ROM along with Twin Recovery and Exposed.
The phone works ok until it starts to seriously lag, with icons taking ages to appear on screen (like the HOME screen or APPs screen). Also at points, it fails to recognize any WIFI signals. It is as if there are no signals at all.
The biggest issue is the reboot. In order to restart OS i have to enter recovery and wipe Cache which leads to an approximatelly ~13minutes boot up time.
Now i browsed the ROM section and i've nerver seen so many ROMs available before. It makes it hard to choose which on to install.
I need a rom with Dual Recovery and root. Which is the best offer at the moment with SONY camera software working? I dont care for experimental ROMs but i need something stable, fast and well, fast.
Thanx for reading this.
Hi, installing Xposed Framework will it lead me to bootloops? Was that the cause of my bootloops with the .254(i think) version?
Hi,
First, there is no such thing as "Best ROM", the best to do is search the Development Thread, read some threads, some comments and go for the ROM that interests you. I am running Stock Rooted + Xposed and it has been quite nice to me.
About your question, Xposed is still in alpha version, so maybe it indeed caused bootloops, but latest version has been running fine on my device. I'm running .270 firmware by the way.
All the best,
~Lord

I had the same issues as you and I finally found a ROM that is really smooth! However it does not have Sony camera software as it is based on cm12, the ROM is crdroid
Thamx for the reply guys
Hello i am a person who hates to do things like backup apps just so I can reinstall them after wiping them just for a new version.
But as I need to upgrade and didnt touch rom wizardry for a while I am looking for help.
My idea is to get
from my current prerooted stock 4.4
TO
prerooted stock 5 or 6
so i do not have to wipe hopefully(ev rom change)
.
how would I do that exactly?
Exact info in image I got the rom from this forum.

Thanks for your time. I hope this is possible. Ohby the way I need to do this because AIDE app does not work on sony phones with android 4 any longer it seems. At leastthats what many people reported and I would like to use it as I always get a stupid aapt theme resource error in building my apps. even tried changing theme to holo did not help..
If maybe you have a workaround for that would be even neater because I like android 4.4 more anyway.
That's what I did. 4.4 -> 6.0.1 without wiping internal memory factory reset after, just flashing the rom and twrp recovery. It's recommended to take the trouble to backup & start fresh, but no problems here.
Helium was handy to backup some stuff.
I followed the thread titled: Recovery & Root for MM .575 & .291 LB
..using a crappy old desktop with linux on a usb stick. I did flash Su for root then xposed, for all the good things like adaway, afwall+, titaniumbackup, pmp, sdfix, sdmaid..
Marshmallow is pretty damn slick, its worth it, take your time.
Hi thanks for your answer. I found a prerooted stockfirmware with 6.0 from the same guy i had prerooted 4.4. And no errors whatsoever.
but i noticed some lags here and there whereas in 4.4 everything seemed more smooth. In marshmallow now it feels like sometimes it freezes for half a second. very weird..
Any idea how to fix that?
ActuallyI had 6. 0 before downgrading but I liked the 4 more (look, feeling, compatibility) so I downgraded.
They say the lags will go away after some use..
It may be with not starting afresh (I didn't notice any problems but its highly recommended to), it may be something you have installed or very likely just the new rom 'wearing in'..
I started from stock 23.0.1.A.5.77 to stock 23.5.A.1.291 and applied root, read about the the lags when upgrading and that they go away after some days use as android optimizes (again, no problems here). Try giving it some time and see.
Weird that you talk about AIDE.. was reading about that and Terminal-IDE.
